  2. Well this is the EPILOGUE. Yesterday the Jubilees went to a new and loving home. The transaction could not have been smoother. The buyer had not heard Jubilees before, but had distant memories of Klipschorns from his youth. The demo consisted of Tracy Chapman, Cowboy Junkies, Dave Brubeck, Natalie Merchant as I recall. The grin on his face was classic. For those of you fortunate enough to have Jubilees, remember back to your first experience - yes, it was that kind of grin! For those of you interested, the advertisement generated a good deal of activity. Location, transportation, size of the big beasts, and lack of cash were the prime deal breakers. I am confident that they will continue to bring pleasure to the listener in their new home. My girl friend stopped by with some freshly baked bread as a bit of a Bon Voyage gift (Sourdough with rosemary - it has been our pandemic hobby). I really think she wanted to see if I had a tear in my eye. After a glass of wine I waved good bye. During the time I have enjoyed this passion for big Klipsch speakers, I have met some truly great and wonderful folks. Yesterday was no exception. -Tom

  4. Snapped this shot while getting the old tubes back in service after several years in storage. Posted this in a different thread but thought it might go here, as well: - New Tubes in PAS-3 preamp - Re-biased K77s in the ST-70 - Caps Reformed (via gradual volt increase) - Using Rega Planet CDP as Source - Klipsch KG 3.5 speakers as Load Trying to make space for it all with my Forte IIs. They really were made for each other. 🙂 Frank

  6. Sounds like a good project for someone with a lot of time on their hands so let us know what you find out. Also post complete info on length, width, height and weight with comparative quotes from at least three shippers in common use so we can compare their services. I would prefer it if you also got quotes with insurance and then their track records regarding shipment damage, on time deliveries and insurance payouts if product damaged. TIA for your time! By the way @Westcoastdrums thanks for the tip. Please do not pull this thread.

  8. To keep, or not to keep, is the question that crosses my mind about my extra pairs of Brazilian Rosewood Klipschorns. Some of them have not been connected for a while, they just sit around my house being really beautiful art objects. What should I do?

  9. Tom, Thanks for all your hospitality yesterday and entrusting your Jubilees to me! Tom is right ... my first listen of Jubilees and I think that once I pulled my jaw off the floor I said something to the effect of "Holy cow, what a huge soundstage". I may have included a few supporting expletive's in that sentence as well. Tom's work is awesome; these are definitely a one of a kind in appearance. Tom's passion and attention to detail really shines through. I am really looking forward to getting them set up in their new home. Tom, it may take a few days or so as my day laborer (for the rest of you out there, my son) quit on me at about midnight last night once we unloaded them into the garage and he headed home, saying "see you at Thanksgiving" knowing very well that I'd manhandle them into the house long before then. Yes, these babies are huge (heavy); best workout I've had in years! Once I get them set up, I'll post some pictures in another section of the forum and give more of my impressions. Thanks again Tom and please thank your girlfriend for me (and my wife) for the sourdough bread! It's absolutely delicious! Steve

  10. Remember, depending on the slope of your low pass xover, the sub will play up almost another octave. I am crossing my 15" HSU subs at 30 Hz with my LS IIs, subs located in the corners behind the speakers. This is a perfect match in my room and system. 100 Hz would wreak havoc with what the LS does so well on it's own. At least that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

  21. OK, I shipped out an amp that weighed 50 pounds roughly. I don't have the dimensions, but it was packed well. Would have been 150 fully insured. I ended up paying $65 fully insured. Just trying to aid others. What do you use for shipping? Maybe you have something better than this? Do tell.

  27. Just FYI no tinkering needed with the C2600. Its ready to go out of the box, and McIntosh is super conservative and their specs these tubes will last forever. You get the tube sound with none of the hassles. Connect it to a nice SS amp and you are winning all day

  30. I thought recruiting was his forte? ( Forte. get it?. See what I did there? 😀) PSU is currently ranked #3 in the 2022 rankings above OSU Oh, and back up QB Taquan Robinson received an offer from OSU after he committed to PSU He was good enough for OSU but not good enough to play against Illinois? What are they doing with hime? Remember Justin Fields? Well, he does deserve credit for taking the program out of its dark days, beating OSU and winning the Big10 championship in 2016 LSU and USC have shown interest Odds this is his last year?

  34. Clean the contacts on the switch Replace the relay Clean the speaker connectors Ensure the speaker wires are secure in the connectors, powered off Inspect the bottom of the board for bad solder joints, shorts Next would be check the pre amp section or have a tech check it Then move on to the amp section Weak transistors will sometimes fade in out

  35. I´m not sure, but will this work with the dispersion of the horn (horizontal vs. vertikal)? What i mean is, these were designed to be used in horizontal position, no? I know on some of the Reference & Reference Premiere lines horns could be turned to allow laying a speaker on its side.

  39. HDMI pass thru means that a signal, from your DVD for example, will go to your TV, even if the receiver is turned off. This only works if both, TV and DVD player are hooked up to the receiver. But with my receiver, it only works if it is in stand by.

  40. Diffraction slot horns seems to catch on with quite the negative buzz, not just around here. How has this tendency latched on so predominantly? Surely not through hands-on experience only. Indeed, as a universal observation at least and at any SPL, I don't see how that is warranted. I use a pair of Electro-Voice TS9040D LX with the Don Keele designed Constant Directivity HP9040 horns + DH1A 8 ohm (and so an older design, as you all know), and from what I've read (though never experienced) the "frying bacon" effect shouldn't set in unless +120dB's are reached. More to the point: used in my own domestic environment they sound great, actually. I've had people over using the likes of Quad electrostatic speakers and other typical "high-end" offerings in their own setups, and they're impressed by the EV's - even envious at some of their traits. I wouldn't worry about the B&C ME464 horn using a diffraction slot - certainly not viewed as an isolated design parameter.

  43. I bought the factory wrapped panels as seen in the picture, but you can save a bunch of money if you order the Owens-Corning 700 series rigid fiberglass boards from your local hardware store and the fabric from Guilford of Maine, or AcousticalSurfaces.com, or the fabric aisle in some local craft stores. On my panels, it looks like they first sprayed the edges of the fiberglass panels with a coat of contact cement that was allowed to dry, creating stiff corners, then sprayed again with contact cement to adhere the fabric wrap.

  44. Got myself an old Nikon F5 camera. I wanted one for years, and finally a local photo shop had one that was sitting on the shelf for 15 years. Has some mileage (86000 actuations). Had it checked and cleaned by official Nikon service center. All is ok. Hope to shoot a lot with it.
