The damaged 402 horn was repaired yesterday. I used JB Weld Plastic Bonder (2 part urethane) and was pleased with the reult. The scars are quite visible but at some point I will paint it and they should be undetectable. After a couple of hours of trying to remember how to get my computer to talk to my Ashly 3.6 and running REW I got them setup on my Klipschorns. The K402 sound certainly lives up to the hype! I sat down and listened to many of my favorite recording well past midnight. Massive sound stage, amazing clarity and detail. I am one very happy horn head.

I’ve never liked turkey if I’m honest. A lot of Thanksgivings', I don't eat any of it at all. The closest I come to tolerating it is the dark meat. I decided to get a turkey breast, (bone-in) and followed Jeremy Yoder’s (Mad Scientist BBQ) recipe injecting the breast with butter mixed with ancho chili powder and chipotle chili powder. Smoked at 200 for 2 hours, then 325 till it hit 165 IT, roughly another 1.5-2hrs. Just salt and pepper for the rub. Smoked with Pecan. Oh.... my.... goodness. By far, the best turkey I’ve ever had. I think I can eat turkey after all. Annnnnd, my father-in-law is handing over the reigns to me to provide the bird for Thanksgiving. I gave him a sample and I think he gave me the biggest compliment he ever has given me when he said it was the best turkey he's ever had. (He is a man who doesn't normally throw rainbow bouquets around.) Link to video if anyone is interested:

Ahhhh! Print her name on the mugga before you pour it too? lol She's gotta be cool. Before every show the boys ALWAYS get together and harmonize about 6-8 times on 7 Bridges Road. That harmony has to be perfect or they just stand there and do it til it's right and everyone's happy. It's almost ALWAYS the first song after intermission. I really needed that vaca w/my youngest daughter in Phoenix and catching this show. Knew I'd find a couple clips now on youtube. Worth every penny and when they come out on the regular tour I'll prolly show up again. I'm a repeat offender.

Just wanted to comment that my THTs have been impressing me more and more every time I listen to them. Listening to music, watching movies, they handle everything that's thrown at them without breaking a sweat. I don't even have any EQ applied. I just placed them in my room 19" from the wall behind them and gave them a go. Eventually I'll get a minidsp and all that jazz but I'm just enjoying getting used to them for now.

Okies, think stylus for a minute. There are two types of penetrating oil/solvent that actually will creep UP hill. Aerokroil and WD-40. Try either on a frozen bolt or nut and let it sit for 24 hours... Even though it's Halloween I don't like oily creepy thingys...

Hi, I think like John J, if you want to keep your vinyls use a MicroLine (or MicroRidge is the same), a Shibata or Fine Line. https://www.ad-na.com/en/product/jewel/product/stylus.html The MicroRidge / MicroLine is the most elaborate stylus, with laser and computer size. Its contact surface with the groove of the disc is the largest of any diamond cut. Audiotechnica, Shure V15 V MR, Dynavector, JICO and others have used this MicroRidge size on their high end cartridges I have an Audio Technica VM740ML, the MicroLine is great is now not very expensive, I think it's a shame to damage your vinyl records with an elliptical today. https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/cartridges/line-series/vm-series/vm740ml

I’ve been using a Shure M97xE cartridge for 15 years (replaced the stylus twice), which has an elliptical stylus. I suspect that the stylus rides at a different height in the groove than the styli on cartridges I’ve used in the past. It’s just a theory of mine (or hypothesis to a scientist), based on the fact that scratches are less audible with this cartridge, and the difference is obvious on some of my older LPs. It makes for more pleasant listening.

But they're rounded, don't reach the bottom and damage the groove from the way I've read and see it. All I know is that the then expensive AT I bought in the early 80s for less than $50 was a fine line and I haven't had any other type since. Some covers failed but my vinyl has not!

Micro line, Fine Line, whatever the manufacturer calls it. The shape that fits the grooves will not incur damage and actually will pick up more of the recorded sound imprinted in the groove. Oh my gosh, such sad news. I got to know Roger thru a garage sale here on the forum. He wanted my KP-450's so bad and only had a deposit at the time. I took a leap of faith and shipped them on his word for the balance. He was a man of his word and paid the balance shortly thereafter. During our transactions, I told him how stubborn he was and said "you must be a Taurus" He said yup born on May 7th. I laughed and said "really me too" What year I asked and he said 1964. I laughed even harder and said "Really, Me too!" Rest peacefully my friend and my thoughts and prayers to all of your family and friends....

Bubo, I wonder if WD 40 has any effect on the stylus ( bonding agent ). I use it sometimes to remove TAR from my hands. I'm never w/o it, & have cans in various locations- Truck, Garage, Basement & under the kitchen sink. I'm going to give it a try. Just never crossed my mind to try it, Thanks PS, maybe George could try it first & report back to us? LOL

I have seen claims of products for lubricating records but assumed it would just accumulate on the needle I recall Armor All ads on TV, to restore the shine to records.. It seems like a lot of American Film restorations are done with original films from European Archives, many run by preservation Societies. Not long ago recording and vinyl record pressing was distributed and affordable. Much from lesser known artists will probably be lost, some of the old 78s I've heard are quite good when cleaned up.

Local guy I grew up with was Stewart Copeland's drum tech forever. David played in a couple groups as a kid but was beyond playing w/groups. He was fantastic spending DAYS holed up in his dad's garage w/his gold sparkle Ludwig kit. After high school graduation he just disappeared and turned up in NYC where he met Stewart. David would spend a LOT of time sitting at my place jamming out and getting caught up when he came back to see his parents. He passed about 15 years ago but stopped by to tell me he had cancer and not much time left. Three weeks later he was gone. Such a great guy who exited stage left too soon. The BS we laffed about was ALWAYS funny as heck cause I could relate and he knew it. Told me Stewart was fantastic to work with and they always got along well. Prolly cause they shared the same love and put their pants on the same way. Great getting old. Bittersweet seeing those posts but yea there's a lil sidebar story of mine. I never asked his mom what happened to his drum kit. I just couldn't. Thanks for the posts Subway. Brought back a LOT of smiles!

Yes the ones I'm talking about are known to be severe (truthful) in their reproduction of that groove. I've read the same thing. So if there are scratches or dust it will be evident to your ears. I spent several afternoons over that spring at the stereo store talking with that guy about all of this back before the www. Did not build my first real stereo until after I learned a bit about it. I can lay the stylus/cart choice and also my favored brand of headphones on that guy. Didn't demo the carts but demoed several sets of headphones and the AKG K-140 was the clear winner for me back then.

I'm curious why anyone would apply Silicone or any other lubricant's to vinyl. If anything you would just want them as clean as possible, No?

I don't know any of those details, but he was a Nurse. I don't know what he was doing "recently" but a number of years ago, he was a travelling Nurse. As I recall, he'd go to a location and stay there for (no idea) six, eight months?? to help do whatever he did. He'd then go back home to Bluffton before his next road assignment. I might be wrong, but that's my recollection of what he said.

Without removing the stylus it will be hard to examine the stylus to see if the WD transfers off of the record WD is one of the great inventions of our time along with CRC Let us know what you discover I can say that my cleaning method with dish soap and micro fiber does a great job, does it reduce lubricants from the vinyl manufacturing process, maybe....

Record lubricators & preservatives I recently was introduced to GroOove Lube, a spray-on treatment for preserving vinyl record fidelity. Given the claim that the effect of treating a record is “stunning”, what would it do for my records? Would I get the quieter background and increased depth and detail? I applied it as per the instructions to a very familiar disc that was newly washed. Would it sound different to the many times I’ve previously heard it untreated? Yes indeed! Greater vitality is how I feel describes the music emanating from the playing of a newly washed and lubed record. This seems miraculous and I wasn’t really anticipating any effect to be so startlingly discernable. It’s too early to know the long-term effects of GroOove Lube, but I liken it to Sound Guard record preservative, a similar product that was promoted by a British hifi magazine in the early 1980s (HiFi Sound, I think). This was derived from lubrication technology developed by Ball Corporation for NASA, and worked by lubricating the vinyl and thus reducing stylus wear and static charge on the groove surface. I applied that to quite a few of my records in 1981 (I wrote the date on the sleeves), simply spraying it onto the surface of each record and then buffing it lightly. These records remain some of the shiniest, quietest, and crispest sounding in my collection, and for the large part having never been washed or re-treated. Other products I’ve seen, but are also not readily available in retailers, only by mail order (from the USA), are Milty Permostat and Permaclean, Gruv Glide, and LAST record preservative. Gruv Glide is an aerosol application claimed to improve sound quality. Sad news indeed. My condolences to his family. The attached photo shows a Ford 427 SOHC “cammer.” Roger’s avatar and forum name pay homage to the same. On a cast crank, the casting line is in a straight line the length of the crankshaft. I have worked a deal so that I am getting a new pair but will keep the damaged ones as well (at a huge discount). I have been researching repairing the damage and think I should be able to do it without it being overly noticeable. A paint job will also be in the works. I will post pictures of the repair progress once I start. Looking forward to getting these up and running and I'm sure I will be bugging all of you for help.
