I will miss him, mostly in a good way, he would laugh at that. We talked alot over the years, let me tell you what that nut did once. He wanted to go to Pilgrimage one year so instead of flying into somewhere close to Hope he flew into Gulfport airport a day early so he could ride with us. What are you crazy I asked, now you have a 7 hour drive each way extra. Then he forgot to mention or didn't realize you need to get to the airport an hour early to fly back home so he had to catch the next plane. We had a few hours to kill so we went to eat at a casino and drove around a little then went back to the airport. We would tease him, Kevin Harmon who he loved would say your an odd cat Rodger, and he was, but he was doing much better over the last few years. No way, I needed once again an online break. I am also still in the German-speaking forum online also. That is then sometimes just all too much for me. In addition, I had to finish cable orders again and had spent a lot of time in my free time listening to music, mainly the now modified Marantz SACD player, which now clearly plays better than ever before. I'm going to miss Roger dearly. Never met him in person although he had invited me over a couple of times. I've had wonderful conversations with this man, and really enjoyed the Messenger gifts he sent...I never knew what was coming and whether or not it was funny, sexy, or cringe worthy. I know he has had a heck of his battle on his hands since his accident and we only spoke a couple of times since. RIP my friend, you touched so many lives. I will always miss you. Tim

The weather today in East Lansing looks poor for Spartans vs Wolverines. Google says high of 52 with 50% chance of rain, humidity 82%, and 8mph wind. I doubt the weather will favor either team. I’m reminded of an interview of Paterno after being upset by Navy in a hard rain. DUDE!!! @BigStewMan must be younger than me I remember before the shards of blades in the apples in TX started all that. We didn't take apples except for the fresh made caramel ones the lady on Delchester Dr. made every year, had to walk through their haunted decorated house to get them and everyone knew they were worth it! King sized pillowcases that we ate and traded candy from every day of the year and threw out the leftovers the next year when Halloween was there. We'd stash `em between the big rocks at the creek and get the next ones out to fill. Oh, and yea was forced to brush my teeth more than twice a day almost until New Years Day.

nice story Dave. I had a friend that was a drummer for a Hall of Fame rock band (albeit BEFORE the guitarist formed the HOF band ... come to think of it, this happened to him twice; but not sure if the second guy was a HOF'er). Anyway, very nice guy. His drum kit was at this pad I used to hang out with and one afternoon I was sitting at the drums and this guy, who I'd never met before, comes in and gives me the "thumb" sign to GET OFF his gear. I did without comment. We soon became friends and one night he says, "Remember the day I met you and kicked you off my drums? Well, you can play my drum set whenever you want." Had a HUGE, HUGE wildfire one year and smoke was in the air in our town quite heavily. This dude calls me up and asks me how I was doing because he had a dream that the smoke was making it hard for me to breathe due to my Asthma. Kind gesture of him to check up on me. Sadly, I pulled one of my, it's time to move and never look back acts and have lost contact with the guy and literally every other person from that era that I spent ALL of my waking hours with. Probably why I bore you folks with my stories because I can't reminisce with my old partners -- I know where some of them are now; but after all these years, it would be too weird talking to them now. I'm not the social butterfly that I once was and even back then I wasn't a social butterfly.

It's been a tough year for the Forum. We've lost three members we could always expect to see again at the next Pilgrimage. First it was Kirby, then Dave Mallett and now Roger. Here is a 2015 photo with Roger probably telling Dave to stop asking to play pipe organ music on Kevin's massive KP-600 stacks.

Eric you do know that BigStewMan is not a real person right? Many years ago several of us developed his persona and opened a forum account for him based on the life and career of a federal inmate named Sylvester Penrod. Penrod was doing time for maliciously smashing guitars and petty theft! A quirky guy who would go through the chow line and pocket those little packs of ketchup when no one was looking. I think he is now on the lam traveling up and down the west coast doing odd jobs and blogging on several forums. So if you need help with your construction projects you will have better luck getting Rich and Carl to stop by. Hope this helps😁

Thanks but methinks I'm older than you. Any way...jeesh went to HomeRDepot and 1 10 foot long piece of 1" electrical plastic conduit cost $10.38. OMG!!! I used thousands of feet of electrical cond. 1" and greater when I built my house. How can anyone afford to build now?

never was a big fan of halloween. I did the trick or treat thing when I was a kid like everyone else and likely ate candy while walking around and not waiting for my parent's to "inspect" it, which I don't recall them ever doing anyway. We didn't use no plastic jack o lanterns -- we filled pillow cases and had the intel going about which houses had the "good candy."

Jeez....I hate to hear of a member passing. Born in '64...way too young. I just turned 55 a couple weeks ago and, the older I get, the more I'm reminded of what my grandfather told me when I was a teenager and into later years. "You know you're getting older when you hear of/go to more funerals than birthday parties". The older I get, the more I understand it. Life is short...we just don't know how long we'll be around. Rest in peace and my condolences to his family and friends.

Right now the digital crossover market seems to have a threshold price for good quality units--both used and new, that is. The minimum used market price is about $300-$500(US), and with slightly higher prices than this garnering disproportionate increases in quality (i.e., $500-$800US). The best units that I've found (through either direct or indirect experience) are Yamaha SP2060, ElectroVoice Dx38 and DC-One, Ashly Protea, and Xilica (if you can find them used). New prices have been pushed down by one company and model series--Xilica XP--and they now represent a sort of gold standard that's pushing down the prices of high quality units. The other market is the low price end represented by miniDSP. Various reports are that the miniDSP "HD" units are just capable of doing the job from a noise floor, dynamic range, and reliability standpoint. I've not had an HD crossover to play with, but it would indeed be a big step forward if these units were really up to the task. My guess is however that you'll have to wait for the next round in product lifecycle updates to really be the equivalent of a Xilica or used EV. In other words...the risk of losing your investment to something that doesn't really do what you want it to do is still too high in my estimation, until someone shows that it works with high efficiency Klipsch loudspeakers. I'd recommend adding a little more money and getting something that is known to work and to be reliable over a reasonable operating life. If I get my hands on a miniDSP HD unit, I'll certainly let you know how it performs. When you look at these prices and capabilities relative to custom passive crossovers that are being sold by third parties, quality digital crossovers now are less money than high quality passives. If you're only looking at lowest, rock bottom prices, then passives are still the economic alternative of choice but note that we're now talking about a maximum of $300-$500 per pair of passive crossovers before the digital units become the overwhelming best choice economically. That's a fairly low price threshold and one that most real audio enthusiasts can easily hurdle by saving a little of their spare change for a short period. Also note that digital units are not relegated to a single loudspeaker model and type, but can be used for any loudspeaker type/model that the owner has on hand. A lot of people I think miss this important point. Once you own a digital crossover, chances are that you'll keep it for a very long time to use on future projects--just like amplifiers and preamps.
