Gary Gillum of Klipsch came up with the two piece design, and PK had Atlas put it into production. The "G" in the A55-G model name is a nod to Gillum. He is also the "G" in the KG series of loudspeakers.

"Toys In The Attic" Auto tone arm lift was a feature I envied on friends turntables. In fact, it was THE feature. Drove me nuts! I guess mine is not a "Super". I wonder if a rehab might somehow include adding that auto tone arm lift feature. Is it something that can be retrofitted? So, Full Range, what are you going to do with your TD147 ?

I - O! Couldn't help but notice your reference to "that school up north", Dave1291. But, what actually caught my eye was Full Range's reference to the Thorens TD160. I have my old TD160 in the attic. I parked it a long time ago but carried it with me when I migrated west and have wondered where to take or send it for rehab. I'm in SoCal now. Anybody anywhere near Ventura or the San Fernando Valley who is reliable and knows and appreciates these old turntables? GO BUCKS!

Lots of very pretty amps here. After a certain age the old girls start to look pretty to you. This one was born in 1958 or 1959. She's a year or two younger than I am and looking good. I dressed her in maple, a professional replaced the capacitors and any out of spec resistors. Three of the four output tubes are original and match, the fourth is an antique chosen to match the other three. She may get a new set of output tubes someday. The rectifier tube is original, the preamp tubes are brand new. By "Original" I mean that the tubes say, "Magnavox" and look old as dirt. I cannot prove they were never changed. There is a bit of noise evident when there is no music playing. As soon as the music starts I no longer hear it. No doubt someone would be bothered by this. I play it into Heresy I's, most of it's diet has been Sinatra, Goodman, Basie, Ellington - forties through sixties.

Cool. I sold the jukebox but kept the little records with the big hole and I haven't started offing my LPs yet and I don't think I will. Hell, I kept them this long and dragged them half way across the country with me so I'm hoping I can get some advice about where I might find someone to help with Thorens rehabilitation. The old TD160 is tired. I would prefer someone sorta local to southern California so I could carry it in and meet the folks but I would be willing to ship in the right situation. Anyone out there have a recommendation for turntable service?

@oldtimer can get a Thorens TD160 as they are very close in design and specifications They say the LP12 copied some aspects of both Ariston RD11 and Thorens TD160 turntables

My Linn table is done and sounds spectacular. Amazing what 3 caps and some resistors will do to a Valhala board, but man. Sweetness! Finally decided after 40 years he'd put a new belt on so he's sending me one when he gets his order. THAT I can handle. 3 hours each way and the place is fairly close to ❌ichigan's stadium. Ugh! Hit a record store on the way home I hadn't been in for prolly 50 years. They used to sell used and some new back then. Today? The place is HUGE and every record they have is NEW sealed with reasonable prices. Snagged about 8 in there finding a few I didn't expect to find but there are a few that I'll prolly never find. Half the fun is playing them knowing they're finally yours. The other half? Yea, CD's SUCK! The guy that owned the store told me long ago this is what he wanted to do. I guess the upstars is FULL of the old stuff and new stuff.. He rotates his inventory by selling them 1 at a time then re-stocking til he's out. Then another order goes in. He's got it all thunked out and it's a great place for suckers like me! ha Also picked up 3 while I was nosin thru some of their new stuff at the shop. Kinda surprised me they seemed to have more than they did a year ago. Couple that w/the 24 or 5 lp's I've had laying here Imma gonna have some FUN this weekend. 😎 The tech finally asked what I was running and I found out he likes Klipsch gear and the fact it's so revealing. Then we started talking table stuff and he actually recommended I keep the arm I have. Said it's one of the best Linn ever made. He also said one of the owners had a new one he'd sell me IF I really wanted one. lol The owner went back to his old carbon arm. Keep the Thorens, this kind of quality you cannot get from modern TTs in it‘s price range. Some even prefer it against an LP12. I never had a Thorens but a good buddy has his since decades. Still singing today. Much better than my old Dual. Couldn't wait to unzip this one. 16 tracks on 3 lp's by Walter Trout (Canned Heat & John Mayall) and yup his son even played on a couple songs. Start 'em young and they become musicians! Recorded in November of 2015 after his liver transplant, released in early 2016 this thing is ahhhhmazing. I'll give this one a double thumbs up alll day long. Enjoy! Yes. I suspected that what people might be mostly hearing (and measuring) is the difference between an old driver and a new driver. I would encourage everyone with 30-50 year old K-55s to replace the diaphragms. It is simply amazing what the human ear can get used to.

We've had rainy, cloudy and one cloudless bright day this week. But have yet to break 50 degrees, even got into the high 30s one morning. Bugs come in and they're belly up another foot inside! The best way to paint a horn is by attaching the horn driver flange to a turntable, so you can rotate the horn as you spray the paint, starting at the inside bottom, rather than walking around a stationary horn. I made a turntable from an old office chair. Remove the seat, add a piece of wood as a four bolt horn adapter, screwed to the office chair base swivel mount.

Nice to see Heritage speakers appreciated for how good they really are. While I don't own any yet I've heard them. My ears are old and the differences between old and new may be lost on them. A nice set of Heresy like yours is what I seek. And maybe a pair of Belle.....Klipschorns....LaScala. Well you know how it is.

Check to see if it’s a TD160 “Super” as they are the upgraded version Has larger 10mm bearing and chassis deadening ect I have also parked a TD147 it’s like a TD160 super but with auto tonearm lift at the end of the record

Randy, thanks for reply, it is centered, I know because it is too narrow on both sides, horizontally even if slightly more at the top but in a way that the screw hole positions are very ok. Yesterday my original Alnico round magnet K77 returned from empowering the magnet. Of course the shop had to remove the lens with the coil to work just with the magnet itself and they know what they do with great reputation in this country, specialized on vintage gear. They reached 1.5 dB which does not sound so much but it could make a difference also re the higher frep. response. I will tell later on what I hear. So I thought to widen the opening gently before I swap them and dismount the K77M which did an interims job. I know it’s all about fun in this thread and possible increases in subtleties. I'm not going to transform a 44 year old speaker into the 21st century, and that's not the point here. But if grinding optimizes something I might actually hear...why not. Especially the motor board for the T35 should be precisely worked because originally the T35 was intended as a diffraction horn and the motorboard is an indispensable part of its construction on which it was recommended to be mounted from behind. Even if in the Lascala we have the horizontal arrangement of the T35, which spreads a little less horinzontally than the original vertical arrangement of the T35. But we had this topic horiz. vs. vert. sufficiently discussed here in the forum half a year ago. I am only interested in a proper geometry of the aperture for the lens. I love it when something historic reads like the brand new innovation. It is somehow the point where science met marketing. They are now all, mostly turbo now. Wait till you have to replace any sensor deep inside the engine bay out of warranty. Your eyebrows will raise high, or you will think about dumping. Otherwise, you'll know, pay to play, dip in deep on the accelator and smile.

That is hilarious. Have you OWNED both and kept them for many miles? If you had, you would never say that. I love European cars. Wouldn't own one without an extended warranty and would surely dump it before that ran out. After that, unless you are SUPER mechanically inclined, good luck or open you wallet WIDE.

i cannot tell you how much i appreciate your very thoughtful reply -- it is rare to have someone take the time to be so articulate. i must say i find my heresys to be wonderful. while they don't technically match up against my kef reference 1s, they do have an emotion that is rare and needs to be preserved. they'll be used a lot in their spot in a condo we have recently purchased. my conversation with @JEM Performance convinced me to leave them as they are -- that the caps are the same as he would have specified; that unless it sounds like the k-77s have reduced output (i don't hear that they do) that they're fine; that gaskets are old but aren't cracked so are doing their job as intended. just one listen convinced me to not consider other more "invasive" changes -- like adding a port and changing the woofers -- because they sounded great as they are. i did rub them down with some lemon oil today to clean them up a bit. the cabinets are now even more beautiful than in the pictures i posted. my big decision now is what amp to use to drive them. my jc-5 made them sing, so option one is a parasound a23+. option 2 is to make a couple of amp camp amps to give some class a a go. again, thanks so much for the time you took on your post!
