  1. ....continuing with the vinyl spinning FUN, dug this out of the Longfellow library. Bought NEW back when it was released, probably on standard 140 gram, and still like new after all these years... 'Aja' Steely Dan.

  2. I finally got the Audiolab 6000a Play in my system. Let me tell you...I'm glad I didn't just stick with my first impression because I was tempted to box this thing up and ship it right back. I don't know if it "burned in" a bit or if I just needed time to adjust to the new sound, or maybe the amp needed to warm up from being in the cold from the trip to my house, but I'm glad I gave it a real chance because this thing truly sounds incredible now. I adjusted my speaker angle just ever so slightly and I also removed the plug from one of the Cornwall bass ports (AKA Cornholes). It's weird because on my old A/V receiver the bass was definitely more impactful with one Cornhole plugged up. The bass is literally perfect now, I have two subs but I haven't even plugged them into the Audiolab, and won't. They aren't needed. I'll leave them plugged into the A/V receiver for when I watch movies etc. The center stereo image was perfectly fine with the A/V receiver but with the Audiolab it's even more defined and precise. The soundstage now sounds wider than my speaker placement which is NOT something the A/V receiver could accomplish. Listening to Tools Chocolate Chip Trip when the drums are panning back and forth from left to right, the sounds go way beyond the speakers. I even prefer the internal DAC of the Audiolab compared with my Schiit Modius. Much more impactful and lively sounding. To me the Audiolab sounds best when fed with an optical cable. The streaming from my hard wired ethernet is also fantastic. I'm going to move the Modius back into my headphone rig, which is what I bought it for originally, stacked with a Jotunheim.

  5. Yup it's almost 7AM round these parts. Getting ready to head out and snag some vittles for the next couple weeks. Stalked the local Kroger store yesterday and it was packed on two diff occasions so I guess it's all going to happen early this year. Normal driving routine from Thanksgiving until after New Years is buckling up, putting the helmet on, looking 6 ways before and after I start the car ANYWHERE. Put it in gear, look 6 ways again before I EVEN touch the gas! Not gonna get tagged in some parking lot by a woman running warp 3 on a mission from God! Yes, tis the season. Need some Justin Johnson to smooth things out while I suit up and finish that last mugga! Y'all have a good one this mornin!

  7. They just moved further north! I met my dad(Marvel) down in Murphy NC yesterday and picked up his LS. The nonprofit agency I work for was donating some servers and desktops to his work so we had this totally unsuspicious equipment swap in the parking lot after lunch. It was great to hang out and catch up over lunch before heading back up the Nantahala gorge towards home. The LS are settling into their new home. last night we managed to get them hooked up and listened to some music on YouTube before heading to bed. This morning when I woke up the two younger boys were playing Minecraft and it sounded great. The 8 year-old wanted to be included for scale. “I could almost live inside these” I’m looking forward to really running these through their paces over the coming weeks. Already, I can tell they are a bit more effortless than my H1’s that they are displacing. A huge thanks to Marvel for passing these down to me and the kids. Cheers, Josh

  13. I generally don’t read long posts but “thong” caught my eye and grabbed my attention. So with these new power cables how long are you able to sit in the “sweet spot” wearing only a thong? You might also find an association between quality power cords and hemorrhoids -

  15. Good evening my friends. As always, I try to be here when vinyl is spinning up here in Longfellow Music Hall. Tonight's feature, Diana Krall's 'Turn up the Quiet' album. Bought new in 2017 at a Barnes and Noble store. Here is the cover art.

  16. This is a huge can of worms and I could care less what people think but I've gone back and forth with a few different types of these moderate-affordable type of power cables......and I can say without hesitation that the types I experimented with DID sound different from each other. No question in my mind. The sound quality didn't neccesarily improve with one brand (it actually degraded the sound quality). My story is that I actually stumbled into this experiment by accident and one thing led to another. One day after checking out a preamp that was loaned to me I couldn't figure out why it was sounding different from what I remembered. After all the investigating, I finally realized that after switching some things around and hooking the preamp back up I accidentally grabbed a different power cord. Once I realized this, I started comparing all of my power cords. They all sounded/performed the same except for this one in particular. So then I went on to experiment with some moderately priced Viborg and Cullen power cables. I stuck with the ones I thought made my system sound best. Not something I thought would matter.....but it did and I couldn't deny it....and didn't break the bank. So now after I got all new PC's every time I listen I sit in the sweet spot wearing nothing but a thong and life is good. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

  17. his second pair of LS. I think I bought the K33’s in these from JWC and the APT-150 tweeters from parts-express. We sort of bounce stuff back and forth over the years.

  21. Good choice. The Crites diaphragms are light years ahead of the Klipsch part, and the ALKs are light years ahead of the other vendor mentioned above.

  24. I think you need to rule out mechanical noises first. Pull midrange out check tightness of driver to horn....check all screws etc. Check the jumpers and wired connections. I have found a lot of jumpers loose on a lot pf problems of my friends. Twist all the RCA connectors to check those connections. Then go to the equipment try different recording or source with that song on it. If it can be checked with headphones that would help also. Is it on one speaker will it do it in mono on other speaker??? Switch speakers left to right. Hope one of those ideas helps. I think if it was speaker it would do it all the time.

  27. It is funny. When we grumble about tiny details like that, you know the sound is generating no dissatisfied whines. I leave my system powered up all the time now, and just turn the volume way down when I'm done listening for the day. This protects the electronics from all those on/off power surges, and when I want to hear some music, I just roll up the volume, and everything's fully warmed up and sounding great. I feel really lucky when I do that. Every day I'm reminded that, with help from many more knowledgeable Forum members, I've assembled a really fine-sounding stereo. As for light coming through the flange holes, once I got the idea to put some little squares of black tape on the back sides of the 402 horns, I grabbed the tape from the closet and did it. The total time from thinking of it, to doing it, to putting the tape back in the closet, was under 5 minutes. I wish all my minor annoyances could be resolved so quickly and easily.

  29. No problem Randy, glad they are getting use. I just sent him an offer of $900, it’s a 2 1/2 hour drive to see them but it may be worth it. I would like to put these with the Belle’s. I’m getting the Heritage Fever pretty bad. Hopefully it goes my way with these. Thanks for the Input. Vimce.

  37. I used 2A3 amps with mine for a long time. Plenty of volume, plenty of bass (great trannies on the amps). I had the mids pulled down a few db, which to me balanced out the range. Mine sounded great no matter what room they were in. Originally in a13x22 foot room, then slightly smaller, then 20x22. Even used them in a banquet hall, 1800 sq/ft with 20 ft ceilings (used a 300wpc Crown for that). Awesome, with the best sound our organization has had.

  38. This one is such a fun conversation. I had my Jubilee with K402 installed for 8 years so that the right speaker is placed in front of a window. In the evening the bright street lights come on. And the way I ideally sat and listened and the way the Jubilees were ideally oriented, the glare from the streetlight went right through one of the side right holes and bugged me to death. But...I never got the idea to stick a tape. The listening experience was far too exciting for that. It became a game so that I turned my head or sank into the chair to escape the glare. Very funny that these stupid holes became a strong theme here.
