It matches the E50 perfectly. Here's my rack with the PA3s just waiting for the PA5. As you can see I'm using the DAC in preamp mode and I use it's remote for volume control. I run the amp wide open and it's dead quiet.

They had a number of psychedelic rock hits throughout the counterculture movement during the 1960s and early 1970s, including "Send Me a Postcard" and "Venus", which became their biggest hit and reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and many other countries during 1969 and 1970. The band sold 13.5 million records by 1973 but disbanded in 1974. Great old album from 1969!

After that it was time... One great lp right here w/tons of great artists jumping in. Leon, Carole King, Walsh complement his regulars. "Indianola Mississippi Seeds" is a super album and it's over before ya know it.

Picked this one up just for giggles so threw it on. Some great stuff on there but I'm not real big on U2. Great album though and the mix and mastering is fantastic so it's at another level and worth the money IF you're a U2 kinda guy.

We have a picture of your tube gear thread so not to discriminate I started this thread. The gear from the 70's just have a look you do not find in modern equipment. I did what I would call a complete restoration of this Sony receiver. Replaced all the electrolytic capacitors except one that checked fine that I did not have in stock. Forgive me but I did not want to combine 2 to make the correct value. Cleaned the pots and aligned. Did some repairs to the beautiful walnut case and it now sits in my bedroom. I had a Sony receiver in the 70's and in my opinion was one of the best looking ones ever made.

Werkin hard here today loading up this cabinet. Buddy stopped for moral support so I ran the table on him again. I knew he'd be in my Heineken and laffin at me movin & alphabetizing the remasters over to the cabinet. Sooooo, there ya go. Started w/some Eric Burdon & War into just War and had his attention. hahaha Lil Willie Dixon & Link Wray and he'd realized he just spent 4.5 hours watching me work and he was trashed. lol Yup, he bailed. lolol He got the full shot today cause I played both sides of everything. Yea, I'm like that THEN in the middle of it all I get this txt msg: "Hey man, you alphabetizing albums yet?" The Sony & the 1060 look great. Here's my Marantz 1060. I purchased this about 12 months ago from the "States". It had been totally refurbished with all new caps, resistors, everything cleaned & a new black faceplate. I used to drool over these back in the 70's, but couldn't afford to buy one. It sounds better than I remember them & can hold its own with any of the new more modern designs.

@henry4841 Your Sony is a beauty! This is my 1973 Marantz 1060. I bought it in 1974 and used it for several years. In the late 80s, I replaced it with a Denon integrated then later with a Rotel multi-channel system. A few years ago, I thought I might sell it since I wasn't using it. I pulled it out of storage, cleaned it up, and replaced a switch that had gone bad. The walnut case had dried out a bit over the years so I cleaned it, gave it a once over with some 0000 steel wool, then a few coats of finish oil. Other than the worn screen printing over the Power button, it looks great. So great that I decided to keep it with plans to someday re-cap it. I finally tackled the rebuild a couple of years ago with new/larger caps and replaced the output transistors at the same time. My brother-in-law has a stock 1060 of approximately the same vintage and we put them together one day so we could A/B them to see if we could really tell a difference. We could, and it was pretty amazing. The upgrade turned this already good amp into something special and I've been using it since. I don't plan to let this one go.

1994 Caprice 9C1 big block, B-Body LT1 16 valve reverse-flow cooling. In layman's terms: turning on the ac in 100 degree heat actually cooled the engine. Best 350 ever at the time. 260hp w330ft-lbs. 28-30mpg downhill NC to FL, 23-26 uphill on the same highways. Oh at 80+ mph both ways. 20-26 city depended on the red lights. Mated with an aircraft grade aluminum driveshaft it purred like my`73 Charger at about 90. Better suspension than the Impala SS that was derived from it. Yea it was a big cockaraocha mobile, but rode well. Replaced the interior. With a 2800rpm torque converter it launched well. Two ton beast wouldn't do a road course but did a low 14 sec quarter mile at the strip across from the Cabbage Patch south of Daytona. Put a Corvette starter on it, a MSD Blaster coil, Magnecor wires, replaced all four 02 sensors, put an X-pipe where the exhaust was the hottest after the motor and Flowmaster truck-50s that flowed as well as their 40s without being obnoxious. The hoses were Lifetime hoses. They never failed, but were seafoam green. Crown-vic from then. HA! Got it with 180k miles, it was t-boned by a d*ngb@t with over 200k on it, the drivetrain had another 200k on it. The wiring harness being a central FL car not as much. So look into it a little more you might find something durable. That $2500 I paid to drive the above out of a junkyard was loads of fun for almost a decade! tag's retired long ago.

My audiophile philosophy as of late is to have as much fun with as little as possible. It's a challenge to assemble a great system with just a few components. All three of my setups consist of just a Raspberry Pi, a DAC, an amp and speakers. Saves both money and headaches. KISS is my motto. Oops, I forgot I got a cd player which I hardly ever use and a sub that is dialed in so delicately It's barely noticeable, it just adds a little "je ne sais quoi" to the old Heresys.

So that you don't have to torture yourself for 15 minutes like I did, I have summarized the 6 worst vinyl copies of the year 2021.

I'm tempted to suggest bi-amping. Go with something with authority for the woofer and keep the tubes for the squawker and tweeter. Although lately I'm running a Harman / Kardon 430 on its own with H3s, but I have done the biamping thing with SS / tubes in the past (and could do it today if warranted). FWIW I too am in the Boston metro area.

It doesn't matter how good his source or source material is, The amplifier and speaker need to coherently transfer that information into sound pressure. I am not saying all sources are the same so don't get into that argument but reading his gear list the 300b amp will be his bottle neck for producing clean dynamic multi-instrument playback. I of course could be wrong but in my experience as a SET fan I have had plenty of bad experiences with lots of SET amps on the market. They all sounded fantastic with simple arrangement music but when put to the test with a full orchestra at Symphony hall levels it left me longing to get tickets to BSO and get the real thing. This journey over many decades has me spending as much time on my hobby as I do at my day job. Since you are in my neck of the woods I offer to bring an amp to your place for you to audition if you want.

Many prefer the older AA crossover network including myself. The more advanced crossovers become the more they try and filter "unwanted" frequencies from a specific driver. But with Klipsch heritage models many of us just prefer the AA network vs the steeper AL network. Try the AA filter

It will go with my Fortes replacing the PA3s amp that I'm already running balanced TRS with an E50 DAC. That will be my first tier system. Second tier is my Heresy IIIs paired with a Sabaj A20 amp and E50 DAC. Third place goes to my beloved old Heresy Is running Sabaj A10 amp and a Khadas Tone Pro 2 DAC. All three systems sound excellent to amazing since I started using the latest stuff from China. I know, I know, let's not go there please.

Mullard tubes are NOT distorted in the highs. It is all in how tubes are used driven. Certainly guitar amps are not built to same end as hifi.

I watched the Fleetwood Broughams roll off the truck as they came on that year. It was not uncommon for a million mile limousine to roll in to the shop using that exact powertrain.

Fleet vehicles are normally properly maintained but everything wears and a good manager knows when to get rid of something. You may get lucky but odds are not in your favor. Right about the turbo too, they don't last forever.

Ok, here is how it currently looks: I was afraid that putting absorption will decrease the subjective width of the soundstage and decrease the liveliness. But the soundstage now feels even more wider, highs are even more pronounced which will have to be dealt with the housecurve (speakers are EQed flat 1m on axis currently) and the amount of detail that has emerged after those treatments is kind of spooky - can't think of any other word. I moved the speakers into the room away from corners about 30cm in AND installed traps across the corner - maybe this is the reason low end is kind of lacking. I do not have a lot of experience listening to high quality setups. This is probably the closest I have ever approached to a "quality setup", but I haven't heard a system that is so crisp, detailed, so loud and images as great as this. Will get back with the measurements later today.

Technics SA-800 under the dbx 3bx Series 2. My first piece of stereo was a Technics SA-200. Back then in 1978 Technics had a very large line of receivers, nine in all, each one with a little more power and one or two more switches or knobs until you got to the top of line. The amps sounded fine until you compared it to anything else. I came across the SA-800 by chance in a friend's warehouse and it works fine as a tuner preamp for me.
