  2. These also ? MicroMara´s Bakery ... on the 2nd advent i always bake vanilla kipferl. The recipe comes from my great-grandmother and was passed down from generation to generation. It consists only of flour, sugar, butter, ground hazelnuts and vanilla sugar. So that the flavors combine the fresh vanilla kipferl were packed directly after baking in airtight boxes, they must store for 2 weeks.

  3. Here's the rest of the story. It was probably 1967-1969 time frame. My dad drove myself with him to some place in Indiana. Turns out the guy made cannons. He bought one. We had this at the house as I grew up.....years later, parents divorced and it went with him. He's had it all these years either at his home or at his office. It is operational, guessing the muzzle to be about 2 1/2 inches wide. We'd stuff a washcloth into the muzzle and it would fire that piece of fabric maybe 200' away. He has since had some iron (?) balls made for it. So, @oldtimer, I can now honestly say that I've got some heavy duty balls.....

  9. Only 3 houses here. My wife's (now deceased) uncle was in the house "next door". Her (now deceased) fathers house was on the OTHER side of her uncle's house. Every new years eve, her uncle would walk outdoors at midnight and fire three shotgun blasts in the air. One for him, then he'd point the gun in the direction of our house (shooting out to the field) to throw us a salute, then he'd turn to his left and fire another round towards her fathers house (towards the lake) to salute him. Her cousin now lives in that house and I told him last night that if he comes out new years eve to fire his shotgun while I'm trying to sleep......I might roll this out at 4:00 A.M. and fire a round off for him, just for kicks & grins. Now....other uses.... I have a backhoe/loader. Wondering if I can mount it to the hood and convert the machine into a tank.... or maybe mount it to the front bucket so I can raise/lower it.... or maybe best....mount it to the backhoe. Now I can articulate it up, down, sideways...... much better range of motion. That dastardly squirrel that chews on the corner of our logs (log home) won't stand a chance!!!

  13. It's now here at my house. It's probably not been fired in decades (Dad said he had never fired it but that simply means he's forgotten..... I personally was there on more than one occasion. He gets a pass at 92) None the less.... now that I've got it home and not listened to it..... I've been reading on the internet about upgrading things like this. I intend to take the wheels off and replace them with butyl rubber wheels. That is supposed to better absorb the kickback. It has an iron "wedge" that slides under the firing end of the cylinder so you can raise the BACK side of the cylinder which lowers the front side....sort of some aiming ability. Internet says if I replace that with a resin wedgie, it will make the aiming process more supple. Then, the hot thing to do is to coat the bore with nikasil lining to better eject the projectile. I've not yet come to a conclusion if the balls themselves need to be coated with nikasil..... still researching that. I'll p robably do it anyway..... it's only money and upgrades are always good, right? The wooden frame will be replaced with an all carbon fiber frame. The recoil rope has simply rotted away. Rather than replace it with another rope, I will upgrade it to some rubber strapping that is interlaced with steel reinforcement wire, WAY more cool as it's also a bright florescent orange and this color is supposed to better dampen the recoil shock. I forget the name, but I might then paint it that "ultimate black" that makes everything look like it doesn't exist anymore. This way, I can put it in the living room where my wife won't be able to see it.... I haven't thought this upgrade through however..... I'm still perplexed on how she's supposedly not going to see it but I have to wonder if she can't still stub her toe on it and find it that way? Anyway, those are my first round of upgrades for it..... I'll have to report back later for the 2nd round of upgrades.

  14. Hello everyone, when I bought La Scala speakers from 1983 in 2016, I had several electronics at home to match: first I tried with SAE P-102 A-202 pre and power amp, very energetic sound, abundant bass, excellent spatiality and dynamics, however they are devices with a rather high gain and not adjustable, so with La Scala's very high efficiency Speakers, the background hum was somewhat noticeable. The SAE pair have found a new owner and have been replaced by pre and power SAE 2100L-Bryston 2B-LP pro. The breakthrough felt good, with many gain adjustments the background hum was attenuated and the sound produced by SAE-Bryston was first-rate, stage width and depth at the top, great transparency and exceptional definition. the 2B-LP pro has 60W RMS per channel and is enough to drive La Scala's well so I could definitely recommend this amp without a doubt. Only note about this Bryston power amp, I believe that for the setting of its project it is more suitable to drive small and 2-way systems rather than large classic speakers, in any case with La Scala's it is able to provide a lot of satisfaction. I also had another Revox S-series triptych system at home: cassette deck, tuner and integrated amplifier, so I moved everything into the living room and hooked up the Revox B250-S to La Scala's. This pairing has remained stable the Revox integrated is energetic and refined at the same time: definition, airiness and dynamics are excellent, this amplifier also has an exuberant power reserve despite its compact size, the bass is abundant but tight, real punches in the stomach! Thanks to its particular transformer, the B250-S is completely mute, you can't tell the difference between on and off even by going with your ear to the speaker, and as a cherry on the cake it is equipped with a remote control that is so convenient when I'm thrown on the sofa. eh! With my eyes closed, I would recommend this amplifier in combination with La Scala speakers. SAE and Bryston went to my home studio where they fly my Klipsch KG2s. I wanted to share my experience with you to leave an indicative trace to any owners and interested parties in La Scala; your other experiences will certainly be of interest. Greetings from northern Italy.

  16. As I loaded it into the trailer and tied it down.... I didn't put any thought into how it was orientated. Dad walks up.... says something like "You need to turn it around so it's facing the BACK so when someone tailgates you, you can open the doors to let them know they tailgate at their own peril" (it was facing forward towards me)
    3 points
  17. Oh, and it was just about all I could do to lift this into the trailer, and then lift it back out when I got home. I was lifting it alone and didn't stop to think that the barrel is hinged so the base would swing freely as I try to hoist it. I put it on a dolly so now it's mobile until I can get (whatever is blocking it) the barrel cleared out. It's almost like there's a cannon ball stuffed in there but it's stuck. Dad at 92 isn't messing with this....and his wife at 67/68 isn't interested in it cluttering up the house..... so I brought it home with me today. (left there at 4:30 A.M.)

  18. Good evening and happy night seven! I know there aren't many of us here, but to those who celebrate...Happy Hanukkah! Hard to believe it is already night seven, I hate to see things come to a conclusion tomorrow. After a couple weird covid years, we hosted a few dinners and bevie/snack nights. Company coming tomorrow for another kick at the can with snack platters, fresh latkes, knishes and festive beverages. Back to work and reality on Tuesday. To all the Christian lads (and ladies), here, Merry Christmas to one and all.

All of the, so called, "HiFi" publications have been historically pooh poohed by Klipscheads because they have always REFUSED to acknowledge the transient IMPACT (dynamics), Micro Detail, and Low Distortion of Fully Horn Loaded Systems and overall Superior REALISM when set up correctly. A standing ovation is warranted for them to finally give Horns their Overdue accolades in the "Lay Press" (PWK Term).

  30. As an alternative to the Crites A4500 network, we can build on the AA network and modify it to use an 18dB/octave filter at 4500Hz (vs the 6dB/octave filter at 4500Hz on the Crites network). The below schematic has not been built or tested by me, but only offered as a starting point for people like Geoff to experiment with. If any type of tweeter attenuation is needed, you cannot use a T2A autotransformer tap. You will need to use an adjustable or fixed type L-pad. 2.7uF and 8.2uF values can be used for the capacitors. The values on the schematic are calculated values. The diodes are optional and I only showed them because they are included on the OE AA network.

  35. So... if one wanted to simply make an A/4500 out of an AA you could just parallel the two existing 2uf capacitors, add the .5mH coil to the midrange and “cut out” the .245uH coil and Zeners from the tweeter circuit? I feel like I just graduated kindergarden, duh... I paid good money for a pair of A/4500s years ago and I have no use for these AAs until now. And I REALLY like the A/4500s.

I have had various a copies of the Vince Guaraldi Trio Charlie Brown Christmas over the years. I have always enjoyed it and play it annually for my own enjoyment as well as when we have Christian friends over during the Christmas season.

  44. Some recordings were just flawed at times. Others the problem lies with remastering. I have heard it on other genres as well, it can drive you nuts because you have to play something else to make sure it isn't a speaker issue. When you do, you realize it is the recording, not the speaker. I think you are listening to cd also, which older recordings were not mastered for, unless the original tapes are used. What you get is like the bible---a translation of a translation of a translation....

  45. Yes, locked that, didn't delete it. It's apples and oranges. It had nothing to do with politics, or politically charged topics like Covid. I didn't lock that thread because of any violation. I locked the video editing thread because it was old, it had been answered, and for months we were getting first time posters posting hyperlinked spam to other video editing software in that thread. It was a spam magnet, just like education threads are a magnet for college paper sellers. The LS burning thread was hidden because it burst into flames with personal attacks. I unhid it when I confirmed it wasn't a joke, and then deleted it at the request of the OP, which we usually always do. The Covid thread I deleated most of because Covid is an out of bounds topic. We have always prohibited new threads on previously locked threads. Covid was started and frozen 3 times because I was stupid enough to think a reasonable discussion could occur here without being drug into conspiracy, links to dark web sites and videos, and politics. I tried 3 times, 3 different threads, and it became clear it was serving no useful purpose and was becoming a liability. So while I think your question to start this thread was a legitimate one, and one deserving of a response, it of course goes off the rails into "liberal media" controlling the narrative, and all the usual crap. I don't think I this place is only limited to audio/speakers. If I did, I appoligize for that. There are hundreds of topics like that in the Lounge, and I have been in many. Photography, jokes, books, Cables, Cocktails, Cycles, Beer, Bourbon, Cigars, and a 1000 other things. If you look at those old Evergreen threads you will see there is nothing political, politically charged, political ideology, racial, or religion. So we will turn this into a positive learning experience for everyone. Going forward, if you or anyone has a question on a moderator action, PM any moderator or all of them (Chad, Roy, Dtel and/or me). We will address it, just like we do every week. If we make a mistake, we say so and we fix it. Or if there is a reason for something, we explain it. I would say, almost without exception, a positive outcome is achieved (not necessarily that everyone agrees, but everyone understands). We are not going to discuss these things in the general Forum any longer because they run off the rails into off topic bullshit that would not be allowed anyway. So I'm going to lock this thread, delete the off topic stuff and pin it to the top so everyone can learn from this moving forward. It's an audio Forum, it used to be an awesome place when it was audio and the Lounge wasn't a place where people felt compelled to post about controversial and divisive subjects on a continual basis, or plunge into personal attacks at the first hint of disagreement. So hopefully this will cause people to feel free to express any suggestions, questions, thoughts, etc. on how to keep the Klipsch Forum a friendly, welcoming, warm, and informative place. Merry Christmas
