  2. Or, a better choice could’ve been tinned copper. It’s made for marine use, and NEVER corrodes. This is available from knukonceptz and is called Karma Kable. It’s the step above Kord, and is of twisted pair construction, with a thick clear sheath over the two already thickly insulated conductors. I’ve used it for over 15 years, and the very fine strands have two benefits: as another member mentioned, it’s very flexible and easy to work with. As well, the fine strands are easy to gently cut with a small knife. It’s nearly as easy to cut as the PVC sheath. In my place, the minimum wire size is 12 AWG, like for the bedroom system and the surround speakers, and for the main JubScala IIs, the woofers get 8 gauge Karma Kable, while the tweeters get 10 gauge Karma Kable. Excessive? Maybe, but this way I know that there’s no weak link in the cable department, and the bigger size minimizes any loss in the damping factor of the power amps. And they’re not very expensive. I don’t think their prices have gone up in over a decade.

  6. Interesting cable products This may be the excuse I need to buy a new home with a bigger living room for my stereo and other audio gear. So I can justify new wire.

  8. Last Sunday morning, I bought a spare chainsaw and drove 4 hours to Dawson Springs to help with the cleanup. Went there again this weekend and was able to help a few more families tarp roofs, saw trees and remove debris, debris which used to be someone's belongings. A rough time of year to be doing outside work, and they're just starting. I feel for them.

  12. There must be bigger turn offs than overly large fake boobs, but they still rank highly in that realm. It's not just the plastic, it's the psychology behind the perceived need. It is a fact that leg men are more intelligent, and interesting that there is not much the plastic artists can do about it.

  13. The big ones are for playback. They are used when you bring the artist in, who wants to be pinned to the wall. The small ones are the mix-down monitors - used for the real work.

  14. Finally rewired my amp. It started when replacing the original tube sockets with Amphenol blade style. I installed a new stock replacement 7199 board from Dynakitparts a while ago. Just installed CDE WMF series film caps with stock values, painted them black because I don't like yellow. The choke, bias supply and cap can are new. Diode replaced the selenium rectifier. I have a near new testing vintage Mullard GZ34, four matched pairs of strong Mullard xf2's and 3 pairs of 7199's. Fortunately I read Dave Gillespie's ST-70 Baseline paper before doing anything to the amp. I'm very happy with the stock circuit and it sounds beautiful with my Crites Cornscala's .

  15. Yes pre-tinned copper is a good choice and many in the repair field use that. And smart running extra thick wire except sometimes then inductance may rear it's ugly head. I have made the executive decision to put my monoblock amps on a rack directly next to my speaker and run tops maybe 16" of wire so I just use 14awg as the length is so short the resistance is only about .003 ohms per wire. I run balanced to them so noise is never an issue with small signals either. Even with LaScalas you can put our ear up to the drivers and it's you would think the amplifier isn't even on.

  16. There are still a LOT of large studios with large speaker systems. Many in the film industry post mix arena. A lot has to do with realestate. The former RCA studios in Chicago had couches in front of the mixer and plenty of room to the window into the studio. Large monitors were soffit mounted. These aren't old school, but modern facilities. There's nothing like mixing in a big room to get the big room mix right

  17. Size? The Jubilee is really great, but in nearly all of the pictures of control rooms that I’ve seen, the mixing board dominates the room, with just two or four little powered speakers sitting on a shelf close to the window.

  25. Selling my Mc2205, it has been gone over by Casper at StereoRehab. Looks and sounds great comes with case. The left meter sometimes needs to have the speaker switch turned off and on. this can be fixed easily by Casper but is now to heavy for me to lift, the main reason for selling. I have receipt for work done at StereoRehab Also thinking of selling my C34V pre amp also redone at stereo Rehab, looks and sounds great comes with case. Amp $2500 NOW $2300 local Chicagoland. if also interested in pre we can talk. Amp must sell first !! one and only reduction $2300 doesn't seem to like my picts 2D6DAB10-A470-4552-823A-1E1B462DB863_1_201_a.heic

  26. I recently picked up an AV123 MFW-15 sub. Like almost all of them, the sub amp made the famous buzz! So, I removed the amp and now I'm looking at potentially upgrading the driver. The only reason I'm considering modifying this sub is because it is just beautiful! (Needs a little sanding and refinish!) The veneer work on it is awesome and the build quality is great! Hello all, I know they have drop in amps available for almost $500, ( https://seatonsound.net/product/mfw-15-mk2-amp/ ) but I think I would rather just use one of my Crown K2's to power it. I'm really looking for 15" driver recommendations. From the external dimensions (18x22x24) I'm guessing the internal volume is around 4 cubic feet. I've used these before in my sealed subs for my 2.2 music system and I enjoy them very much, however, I don't know if they will perform as well with the vented enclosure. (I read one instance where someone tried this and loved it) https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-RSS390HF-4-15-Reference-HF-Subwoofer-4-Ohm-295-468 I just saw these, and they look like they may be a better fit for the vented enclosure... but a lot more $. Also, they are brand new, so no long term performance info yet. https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-RSS390HE-22-15-Reference-Series-High-Excursion-Subwoofer-22-ohm-295-292 Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!

  29. You and me both. Throw in an autoformer and things get really interesting! It's all about resistors, capacitors, and inductors. Once you understand each component's impedance and phase at a given frequency, then it's all about complex math and ohm's law. I'd go into much more detail, but I'm afraid I'd be going way off the rails. Perhaps one should start a thread on the basics of passive filters? For example. 2.5mh inductor and a 6 ohm driver. 382hz 2.83 volt signal. How can the voltage drop across both components be 2 volts? There may be others that find the answer interesting. Then again, maybe not. Mike

  31. Lascala’s are fantastic speakers , but when you change drivers and crossovers and horns and whatever ,it starts getting pretty hard to know what you may end up with. When you play a set of Lascala’s or Klipschorns you should immediately recognize that something special is going on .If not your room setup is probably wrong , they do require a decent size room, with good acoustics, and they aren’t really for near field listening . That’s the way I see it anyway.🤓

  34. Wet and 32 here. Here we go! Owner of the State Liquor store here just laffs at me about the good stuff. So I saw this Ohio made bled called Whistlepig. They released some new "Home-Field Hog Batch" Wednesday. Guy here say they'd have it an hour away so I took a drive after I called and they confirmed they had 6. I get there and the girl at the register said they were out. Yea, the rack was empty. Some kid on the other register heard me so went to the back and brought out their 2nd and last case of 6. Told me he was savin it for me but then told me I couldn't just buy the case there was a limit of one. $75 for one and a two hour drive. Sounds about right. Welcome to Ohio! Been thinkin about what I'm gonna do with it now. Think I'll save it for the christening of the stripper pole in here. Perfectly named too. "Home-Field Hog Batch!" Yea, Welcome to Ohio.
