Consider this a confession of a 'guilty pleasure'... Rondo' Veneziano (1980/81) When I was about 12 years old, I convinced my parents to buy a 'stereo chain' and they invested in a formidable one of the Onkyo brand. I still have it in my house. At the time, in the shop they 'demo-ed' it with a record that is a bizarre mix of baroque and rock drums/rhythm. We got the record when we bought the stereo, so we listened to it a lot at our home. In the years that followed, I got to learn a lot more music of all genres (mostly classical and hard rock, when I was young, Jazz and blues and all the rest came to me in my adult life), and it's been a very long time since I listened to Rondo' Veneziano, because I considered it Kitsch with a capital. So... this morning I put it on my turntable, after ignoring it for about 40 years! Very nostalgic moment, I must admit, and boy, this records sounds bright and shiny too! What a pleasant surprise! Rondò Veneziano is an Italian chamber orchestra, specializing in Baroque music, playing original instruments, but incorporating a rock-style rhythm section of synthesizer, bass guitar and drums, led by Maestro Gian Piero Reverberi, who is also the principal composer of all of the original Rondò Veneziano pieces. The unusual addition of modern instruments, more suitable for jazz, combined with Reverberi's arrangements and original compositions, have resulted in lavish novel versions of classical works over the years. As a rule in their concert tours, the musicians, mostly women, add to the overall Baroque effect wearing Baroque-era attire and coiffures. A ton of thanks goes out to Mike @Rowan611! He sold me the Heresy pair that he inherited from his father about 10 years ago. They are my new surround speakers, replacing a pair of RS-7s. I did what I've done to my Heresy LCR: opened them up, loosened and tightened all the screws in the crossover to ensure a good connection. I had a ton of 3/8" wide speaker gasket foam from Parts Express left over so I sealed the backs of both of them as well. That's all I'm going to do to them, at least for now. I adjusted their output level to match them with everything else and put on Star Wars IX to test them out. It was a definite improvement in overall blending of sound from front to surround. I believe these are considered Heresy 1.5 since they have the E-2 crossover and K-53-K midrange so they aren't exactly the same as my LCR with K-55-V midrange and E crossover. But, they sound fantastic and I can't wait to listen to some multichannel music on them! Extremely happy that I finally have my 5 Heresys! 😀

Wellllll that I don't know for sure. It's possible though since her wonderful fiberglass shingles have zero grit on them and you can see the actually glass on each shingle. hahahaha It's looked bad for about 10 years so maybe. lol

Daughter is back in Phoenix outta Detroit with only one added stop, which delayed her about an hour yesterday. Layed over in Houston for a about an hour on my flight out last fall. I got up and hit the commode while on the ground. Couldn't find the light switch but saw the sink filled w/water n paper towels when I opened the door. THINK i hit the commode but not really sure and didn't really care at that point. 😂 Rainy, mid 40-50's then a cold front is sliding down. Could be interesting. Old lady next door decided to put on a standing seam roof, which was pre-cut and just layed over her old fiberglass shingles. Back side tomorrow and they're outta here. Woke up about 1030 and saw 3 pickups and a couple junk cars sitting out here then heard the screw guns. 98 years old and she's paying for a new roof... Nutso.

Today I received a pair of new tweeters from DaveA for my 1986 La Scalas. The new SMAHL v2 lenses and DE-120 drivers will replace the K-77M Ceramic (square magnet) tweeters that are currently in the speakers. New tweeters I had planned on painting the new lenses black, but they look so good that I'm reconsidering that. Old tweeters I plan to run REW before and after installing the new tweeters to see what difference they make.

My Sansui 1010 from mid-70s. A lightweight compared to the others, coming in at 10 W per channel. Haven turned it on in decades. Not worth much, but it was my first. Saved up all my wages from my first summer job to get it. It started my interest in hifi. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

@henry4841 Your Sony is a beauty! This is my 1973 Marantz 1060. I bought it in 1974 and used it for several years. In the late 80s, I replaced it with a Denon integrated then later with a Rotel multi-channel system. A few years ago, I thought I might sell it since I wasn't using it. I pulled it out of storage, cleaned it up, and replaced a switch that had gone bad. The walnut case had dried out a bit over the years so I cleaned it, gave it a once over with some 0000 steel wool, then a few coats of finish oil. Other than the worn screen printing over the Power button, it looks great. So great that I decided to keep it with plans to someday re-cap it. I finally tackled the rebuild a couple of years ago with new/larger caps and replaced the output transistors at the same time. My brother-in-law has a stock 1060 of approximately the same vintage and we put them together one day so we could A/B them to see if we could really tell a difference. We could, and it was pretty amazing. The upgrade turned this already good amp into something special and I've been using it since. I don't plan to let this one go.

I have a very nice pair of stock Forte II’s in oak finish. Cosmetically the grills are very nice, drivers and passives have no issues. There are a few veneer imperfections but all minor. They work flawlessly and sound awesome. I bought these on a whim but, three large pair of speakers is one pair too many. I live in Redding, CA about three hours North of Sacramento. I’m asking $500 cash. Thank you!

Vini Rossi is one amp designer i've read about, whose earlier amps had an internal battery that charged off the wall and then powered the speakers using the battery only.

If you haven't decided on speakers yet, I use Heresy II as side surrounds and have them hung at an angle using easy to make wood supports. For rears, I use the KPT-100 which are angled and don't protrude into the room as much. There are modern equivalents.

Yes it's a beautiful starting point. If I wanted 5.1 I'd add their wireless bookshelves and sub, but can see myself stopping at 3.0 as I listen to 2.0 now.

With all of the listening i have done in the last few days, I think the woofer needs to be louder. I still believe a woofer replacement is in order. I do believe the Kappalite 3015LF is a great woofer, but as Claude mentioned, its a great woofer at very high volumes. The highs and mids sound almost perfect to my ear. Music material makes a difference as well. You need good recordings.

I'll bet you could use it for a center and surrounds and a Heritage speakers like the Forte for the L&R, because my Yamaha AVR has a "Front" setting if you have the place you surrounds in the front because of space. It may sound a bit weird inside your L&R speakers. Regardless, I think the Theater Bar is a great concept w/ super-high WAF.

No it wasn't too long. It is amazing. People like to blame Yoko but even according to Ringo George and Paul The Beatles were having issues before she showed up. Yoko was just a strong women John needed. The most touching part of their relationship was when John got shot and George and Paul showed up to help Yoko. Those are true friends and family. I'm of the opinion The Beatles were underated. I have studied The Beatle throughout my life. They are the epitomy of a band as seperatley they were good but together they were unstopable. I'd like to see a fwe more of these studying each phase of their development. The most interesting would be their time in Germany where they became The Beatles.

For my work I rely on simulations a lot before going into prototype phase. For me it starts with an idea and scribbles with pencils and paper, circuits and calculations. Next thing to do is simulation to check calculations and also fine tune the performance. The prototype phase helps us improve my simulation phase also as if something needs to be moved on the board I need to either input or change parasitic properties into the simulation. Besides designing and building things to put food on the table I have been making radios, amplifiers, TV's, speakers, crossovers, and many other electronic devices for the past 50-60 years. Of course the listening aspect of this hobby is an important one and specs often don't tell the complete story, they can tell you a lot but after making something it always comes down to the listening test, I think we can all agree on that. As for simulations, they are only as good as the models you are using. Use a wrong model you end up with the wrong results, so it's important to know what the equivalent circuit is in order to model accurately. As for this specific scenario, I don't see the purpose of any listening test. We are all on the same page that the acoustic response is the end goal but I feel many have lost sight of how this discussion got started. My original response was to folks choosing to use a film capacitor in the woofer circuit. The original design uses a general purpose electrolytic which has a much higher loss angle and subsequent much higher ESR. This extra resistance in that specific part of the circuit flattens the resonance out and so when changing to a film capacitor one may have to add the extra resistance in themselves to keep the electrical properties flat and more so keep the acoustic properties of the speaker the same as intended. In cases such as yourself you actually preferred the difference in sound so you liked the change in electrical properties and subsequent acoustic properties. The discussion evolved into someone questioning the accuracy of the simulation without the voice coil reactance. Good question, crunching numbers tells us the average voice coil inductance really isn't going to have much reactance at frequencies below 500Hz but people were still concerned so I put the voice coil inductance into the simulation and voila no discernible difference as expected. It is a very simple exercise, inductors and their properties are quite well known and simply calculated but people are visual learners and all of us in here are not electrical engineers so it makes sense to post the two simulations showing the change with and without the inductance. If you find anything wrong with the simulation I am happy to rectify it, if one thinks the T/S parameters will make a difference I can calculate them into an RLC network and add it to the simulation but it should have no bearing on the series inductance and it's effects on frequency response. The simulation is only there to work out the electrical properties of the crossover network, not to be the end game acoustic sound form the speaker as once the crossover is worked out then move onto the measuring acoustic properties of the speaker system as a whole and critique it.

The Sony & the 1060 look great. Here's my Marantz 1060. I purchased this about 12 months ago from the "States". It had been totally refurbished with all new caps, resistors, everything cleaned & a new black faceplate. I used to drool over these back in the 70's, but couldn't afford to buy one. It sounds better than I remember them & can hold its own with any of the new more modern designs.

Not to be misunderstood............I bet the Celestions are terrific. They should be the best you can get right now. If I didn't have TADs I would already own the Celestions. It's just that I have plenty of the TAD drivers at the moment, and I am happy with them........so no need to run out for something this soon that is likely a lateral move. I trust Chris's measurements and impressions and they don't indicate any significant listening advantages initially, or in a room, or with any specific type of music. Time may tell. I did see that because they can cross so low they can reduce the beaming of the Jub cabinet..........but that it was difficult to hear that improvement. That may change with different music or equipment. So for now I am all for the Celestions. However, I can wait awhile for them. You should post your listening experience with them so far.
