  2. So... earlier I posted a pic of me and my friend Roger with a couple of Martins. That was around 1968. Here's one of us last September... Duke, I'll be 73 this June. I'm holding onto the Taylor.

  6. I did not get this today, but actually last October. But today is the first the TD 160 plated some hi quality music. My tech and I did a ton of work, most unexpected due to a very dishonest seller. 😮 And some of the work was upgrades and some was for cosmetics.

  7. Got a couple new amps over the last couple of weeks. MC30's. Unfortunately, one day after receiving them the one on the left fritzed out so had to send it back to Audio Classics for repair. Should have it back hopefully in a few weeks, but until then having fun using the one on the right for mono recordings through my Cornwall's and a McIntosh C11 preamp Prior to getting the MC30's, picked up this MC240. Sounds great, had it playing through the Cornwalls but after I got the MC30's moved it into a second system where it drives Allison One speakers.

  9. Perhaps we should step back for a minute. Originally, I posted this review so folks could enjoy and consider what was said about one of the new Klipsch offerings. Then what happened ....... folks have taken this thread as an opportunity to bicker and argue. Is this what the internet has done to us .... simply given us another mechanism where we can argue and be negative toward on another? What are you guys truly interested in? It's rhetorical question so please don't bother to respond. -Tom

  10. Yea I'm glad I got the green, yellow and purple ones when our DJ got me hook line and sinker on that psychedelic Beatles sounding pair of nuts. Have you heard them cutting up on interviews? These guys have fun getting rich!

  11. Someone on here suggested a while back that we have a thread to remember forum members who have passed on. I think it would be a good idea to share our memories and appreciation for their contributions to the forum. I'll start with who I can remember: @BEC @Sancho Panza @Boxx @twistedcrankcammer @djk @Mallette @kirby @joshnich @Daddy Dee @T2K Feel free to add any and post their forum name and real name if you know it.

  14. It usually does go away quickly in the Piedmont. It's been since the 70s and the one word I used that made my late parents laugh when I uttered it loudly before fully getting out of the bed. "snownoschool!" We had it stay on the ground for two weeks sometimes.. to the point where the drawer full of breadbags was empty. Used them to keep socks and feet dry inside the cheap boots. Half a foot is still possible but the time with the 20+mph sustained with gusts to 50mph has dropped considerably and the temp will hover around thirty. So it's just going to be a mess tomorrow.

  15. Thank you for your plausible answer. I fully respect your criticisms of the sound of your Cornwalls and it is your personal and therefore true impression. Thus, your attempts to change have a motivation that I can understand. I don't want to defend everything concerning the Cornwalls. Still, a few ideas. It is a speaker that can be dependend in the sense that it will show whatever it is fed. What electronics are you using, transistors or tubes? Both can sound very good but weaknesses also become apparent. Another factor is, one thread is just about how much break-in time a Cornwall needs (I personally think that after 50 hrs most of it is broken in). Additionally, it may matter what kind of speakers you had before and what you are used to. I listen to my old 1977 Lascala for over a year.... Before that I had speakers to BBC specifications, Stirling Broadcast LS3/6 and the famous little LS3/5. On the one hand they are very strong in timbre and they don't have unpleasant freq ranges. On the other hand, such types lack the dynamics and liveliness of the Cornwall. It depends on many factors, of course also on the kind of music someone likes. In no way did I mean to deny you critical ability. It was your modification ideas that irritated me a bit especially when I didn't know why in the first place.

  24. Didn't see plows the year I spent in Hotlanta in the early 80s but Clt always had them and those darn salt trucks. I'll tell you now it ain't me driving on that hard slippery ice, or even the snow the last three decades. Dumb dumbs come out more in that kind of weather and I didn't want them sliding into me. Now when I was 16 I did slide that first car, the big heavy Charger off a curve when I hit some ice on the way to school. It surprised me because it hadn't been frozen elsewhere. It was just always cold in the winter back then.

  25. Yeah, it's under test right now. I swapped the L&R input tubes first. They're mid 50's Sylvania 6SN7 (fwiw JAN chrome dome bad boys). The originals were $hit. The filaments were all lit when this happens. So far they've been on for 2 hours today and no problem yet.

  29. Spent last week out at PRI 2021, where our drag car was featured in the Vibrant Performance booth. It was a great time and went better than we had hoped... Lots of traffic, interviews, and a good deal of sponsorships (without us even asking!). The car was already in progress, but when we got the call to have it in the show, things had to be pushed up and it's not a running car yet. After a quick break from all the go-go-go, it'll start getting finished up to where we can hopefully run a 7 second pass this year!

  32. One has to start somewhere by first by using the efficiency of the tweeter minus the efficiency of the woofer as a starting point. Use this calculator for the value of resistors after estimating the db's you think you will need. https://www.diyaudioandvideo.com/Calculator/DriverAttenuationLPadCircuit/

  33. I think that if I ever wanted to "go back" to Tubes, it would be on the Signal/PreAmp Side ONLY, not for power output I would stick to the superior control and impedance/reactance issues by Solid State, Class D or not. We have so many great choice for less money nowadays. It still amazes me. After all, you can make your ears bleed with only 10 Volt Power Supplies on flea power amps with Big Horns. I bought a newly recapped Marantz Model 8B in 1982 (something PWK approved of when I told him in 1985). I paid $350 for it, sold it to my best friend's son for $700. He then sold it for $1,500 to a Japanese guy. I suspect that now that it's in Japan, it's worth about $3,000 in equivalent Yen! But who knows?

  39. If the sound actually Fades in and out Volume wise then try to observe if any of the Filaments of the right channel Tubes are out. I’ve had bad solder connections in filament circuit as well as bad tube socket connections and have even seen some bad solder connections on the cheaper china 6SN7 tube pins themselves. I actually suggest swapping tubes from Left to Right channels so that if the problem follows the tube swap then you will find the intermittent tube if one of them is your problem. If problem stays with right channel then inspect (retention) tube socket pins otherwise suspect bad solder connection in filament circuit if they are going out intermittently as next likely culprit or somewhere else in the circuit is possible if the filaments aren’t the issue. miketn

  40. You could be onto something Mike! 😂 You all down South are funny. Yea, I get it, you don't have any help w/snow removal equipment. I know Mike and the rest of the gaggle of snowbirds up here just snicker when we watch the fake/unfake news and watch you all sliding all over the place. Sad. Why don't you just stay home and wait on the heat from ole Sol? It hits here I "might" get the blower fired up otherwise I'm grounded! lol
