  1. Good Evening, I just wanted to post a thank you to the forum. I have been in the process of building a set of clone La Scalas over the past couple months and have read many of your threads to find necessary specs, prints, etc... Years ago, while helping my uncle set up for an event he was DJing, I was taken aback by his set of La Scalas. I got married back in August and asked him to borrow them for the wedding not knowing he had sold them years ago. He pointed me in the direction of his friend who had bought them and I was able to use them. Long story short, I got bit pretty hard by the Klipsch bug recently. -Evan

  7. @001 Randy? Why do you have so many aliases man? You've got a multi Radeon Vega graphics pc set up to do www mining with the side effect of all that extra knowledge? I'm seriously tripping here that's a dozen in a year or what. So not knocking you just beyond curious now.

  9. TBH it is more than 16 years ago when I last listened to the ALK universal network. They are still in the basement and now where you ask I am curious myself to give the ALK another try which is now as I have restored the AA a serious comparison. I will come back to you after I have made the new comparison, probably within the next week.

  12. You have been very calm and cool about this, here and on the other forum, and I respect that. Many other Carver 275 owners have also said they love the sound. I hope the company takes good care of you folks.

I will say that it does generate some heat... I have been pushing it a little. Took it up to half volume. And ran it there. Didn't seem loud, though I couldn't hear myself think.

  22. or those keeping score, the seller did get back to me, admitted he made a mistake and it is the 33 woofer in his LaScala along with the other original drivers and crossover. Serial numbers 11R405 and 406. Wood is a bit in need of some touch up but all in all seems through pics to be in decent shape. Spoke to a local friend who has been an active buyer/seller of vintage gear for many years about subs. He has several options that he can hook me up with if need be and has a lot of experience with Klipsch speakers . His opinion is that while the LaScala is bass shy, the MC240, and once I get them back from restoration the MC30's both provide enough bass grunt that he doesn't believe one will be necessary. He's also very familiar with my room, listening habits, etc. When I was buying my Allison One's, I got several folks advising that I'd need a sub. I listened for awhile before acquiring the aforementioned Electronic Subwoofer and was perfectly satisfied with the bass output. The ESW improved on it some and I enjoy having it in the mix, but could easily be without it. It will be interesting to see how it interacts with the LaScala's. With any luck looks Friday is the day. I'll report back as I know you all are on pins and needles😉

  23. EVERYONE knows the silver ones sound sweeter due to their inherently higher photon reflectivity. THINK about how you have just compromised your noise floor? However, once warm (0.2degF above skin temperature) you should achieve a near perfect thermal balance after roughly 24 hours. Report back then... 🙃 Russ

  24. Then, according to pure objectivists, you'll have achieved the ultimate minimum noise floor possible in your circumstances. According to Bob Carver on the other hand, you could go deaf merely thinking of transients (by his estimates) so such dedication to the preservation of your hearing is worthy of applause! Russ

  26. Thanks guys....he just messaged me and loves the speakers. He has a large space/limited budget so he won't do better than these, bang for buck. To demo at my place I would have had to disconnect my RF 7's and RC 64, a huge hassle so I said just demo them at home. I sweetened the deal with some really nice cabling so really he would be a fool not to take the deal. I don't really see how he could do better in this market, everything is getting more expensive. Well taken care of speakers don't really age, and tech development have been minimal. Atmos is overrated. I told him to find an rc 62 and maybe some RF 62's for rears and he will be set.

  30. Now, a good young enterprising engineer/electronics guy could make a fortune off of this. I will upgrade you amp for X. With that you get a very safe grounded IEC connection, you get new upgraded transformers. We will run power specs on your amp before the upgrade. While we are at it, you can get a capacitor upgrade we offer brand X, for a bunch more brand this, or for a whole bunch more Acme capacitors. After we upgrade it we will run tests on you amp., print them out, and guarantee them. Be sure and ask us about our tube options, etc. $750 an upgrade, plus parts.

  32. “Bo knew” I agree. The actual assaults at PSU, MSU & OSU (see a pattern there?) and UM were terrible, but the institutional coverups were just as bad, if not worse. I don’t believe that those at the four universities, as well as USA Gymnastics, knowingly initially gave license to Sandusky, Strauss, Nassar, & Anderson to molest students and athletes. I do believe that Paterno, Schembechler, and responsible individuals at all of the institutions, learned of the criminal assaults, but foolishly put the reputations of themselves and the organizations above the safety of the students and athletes. IMO, in each case, by the time individuals learned of the unspeakable abuses, they pursued the unforgivable strategy to try to cover it up in a naive attempt to insulate themselves and the respective institutions from shame and liability. Those cowardly and illegal responses allowed the predators to continue to have unfettered access to young victims . Paterno knew, but worried more about his personal reputation. Although Sandusky was removed from his coaching responsibilities, he was allowed access to the university facilities, which allowed him to continue to lure young victims. Bo knew, but put “The Team” and his personal reputation above the safety of individuals, including his stepson. Instead of being fired, Anderson was reassigned to the athletic department. Now that no reasonable person can deny that some, most, or all of the many victims are telling the truth, Individuals within all of the organizations take the very weak position of saying, “yes, but we didn’t know.” IMO, they knew. More important, it was their responsibility to know. It was their responsibility to know and to protect the vulnerable from predators. They failed miserably.

  33. For sale is my Technics SL-1500C turntable (Black) which is only a few months old and is in like new/excellent condition. It 's a great sounding and looking table which has about five hours of use on it. I'm selling because I'm not using it as much as I had anticipated, thinking I'd get back into vinyl. I've changed my mind so now it's for sale. This is a highly rated semi-automatic direct drive turntable with a built-in preamp which plays 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm speeds. Includes an Ortofon 2M MM red cartridge, power cable, RCA audio cable, ground wire, plastic cover, manual and original box. Turntable comes in the original box and will be double boxed. This is selling new for $1199 + tax. $990 + Shipping and PP fees. Thanks for looking!

  34. I have two Tuba Home Theater subs (THTs) similar to what Dave built. Mine are 24x36x36. They produce absolutely insane amounts of bass. With extremely minimal EQ through a miniDSP 2x4HD mine are flat to 18Hz.

  38. Low is the eleventh studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 14 January 1977 by RCA Records. After years of drug addiction when living in Los Angeles, Bowie moved to France in 1976 with his friend Iggy Pop to sober up. There, Bowie produced and co-wrote Pop's debut studio album, The Idiot, featuring sounds Bowie would explore on his next record. After completing The Idiot, Bowie began recording the first of three collaborations that became known as the Berlin Trilogy with American producer Tony Visconti and English musician Brian Eno. This is labelled the 45th anniversary Limited Edition and was made in Germany. Heard it long ago so almost HAD to jump. Some say it's in the All-time top 5. Side one is typically Bowie with a twist of Iggy Pop and It moves well then it's a flip to side two. Side two is a drastic change! A mix of Bowie & Brian Eno for sure. Side 2 is EXCELLENT! it's one of those put your feet up, kick back, sip on a drink and just let it all go. Kinda Pink Floydian sounding but not. Pretty freaking amazing side actually and I was left craving more and seeing how this lp COULD really be in the top 5. The combination of sides 1 and 2 are very different yet extremely gratifying. I'd recommend it just because it IS very different from the typical Bowie lp's. A "sober" side.

  39. i think you're free to put conditions on a sale as long as everyone is clear on them up front. i think you were quite generous to let someone take your speakers home for a demo and return them if they didn't like them! (i'm not quite that generous -- i would have demoed them at my house, but that's it) good luck with the sale.

  40. I've seen "discoloration" at that height before from repeated applications of cat urine. That might not be the case here, but maybe so--considering the seller's Craigslist etiquette.🤪 Caveat emptor!

  41. Going from a high gain amp with double the wattage that this low gain topping provides, my DAC output is up almost 25 dB higher for the same average level, however, this likely runs the DAC more in its sweet spot for output and SNR anyhow. This is a very interesting little amp. I can see why people like it. I honestly believe this amp would be good enough for most people, that's a praise I can give it already. For the money, it's crazy good. I'm going to stay up a bit (even though I work tomorrow and have to be up very early) and listen to it if that tells you anything...

  46. Hello Moray, The Cornwall II uses the same tweeter as the KLFs and the Heresy uses almost the same material in a lower output tweeter. The horn change might be reasonable but I have found that you have to be careful with driver overlap. It can be a blessing and it also can be a curse. Many times you have to rely on a high slope crossover to make it sound right and to get rid of things like comb filtering. As far as a two way system, many people, including myself, enjoy the smoothness of a two way but they don't have the same mid-range projection as a three way not to mention the possibility of being articulate in the lower mid-range which people overlook. I recognize that as a smoother sounding speaker though the sound doesn't get presented the same way as a dedicated mid. Hard to explain but recognizable. As for the Ti diaphragms, I have been tempted to pull the trigger on them based on your comments. I likely will one of these days as long as I keep these KLFs. I have sold off most of my Klipsch speakers to downsize. Slowly transitioning to a new house with no corners for khorns. And back on this thread, I really like klipschtastic's clean up job to remove the black paint on his speakers. Makes you wonder why they paint over perfectly good veneer. . Pzannucci: to the best of my knowledge the Cornwall ll does use a K79 but it was fitted stock with a phenolic diaphragm. while the KLF20/30 also used the exact same horn and K79 motor but they were factory fitted with the soft shiny black poly diaphragms which don't sound anywhere near as good as the phenolic diaphragms or the ti which are superb. I believe the reason to use the poly in the KLF was simply to make sure it did not sound as good or better than the Heritage line up. After all a KLF30 can move far more air than a Cornwall can and a KLF30 also plays lower than a Cornwall can. I expect the intent for the KLF towers was to target the HT market not the 2 channel market. Say hello to a bad batch of hot melt adhesive and the KLF just had to go away and the less expensive two way Reference series soon came into being for the HT market. We will have to agree to disagree on two way Vs three way. I would rather listen to a CF3 over a KLF20 or a CF4 over a KLF30 any day and midrange presentation is the main reason. I turned my H3 into two ways for a while with a CF3 crossover on the tweeter (just left the stock H3 network on the woofer) and used a EV DH1A with a 6.5" long double cut away Karlson K-Tube instead of a horn. When I pulled it all apart and put the H3 back to a working three way it was three weeks before I even wanted to listen to the H3 and a few more weeks before the sound of the H3 stopped bugging me. PWK's dream was for the Khorn to be a two way and he was only able to realize that dream with the Jubilee. I expect that the Jubilee with a K402 on top simply leaves the Khorn in the dust. I have hot heard this combination myself but we do have members with this set up. I agree the OP did a really nice job on his KLF and it is nice to see the black paint gone and some good looking veneer instead in its place. I hope that more folks go the same way and upgrade some KLF as they are well worth the effort. Best regards Moray James.
