I see it differently. EvCo built a pair of speakers (a proven model that I am sure will sound great). He spent about half of what you are suggesting. From that he will have years of enjoyment and the pride that comes from accomplishing the project himself. EvCo is to be congratulated and I hope his build will inspire others. -Tom6 points

Just spinning a copy of James Gang’s first release, Yer’ Album. While I have the original pressing, this is the 1979 re-release with Joe Walsh’s name highlighted on the cover, since by then he’d gone on to more fame with The Eagles, after they asked him to join them and bring his rock sound, so they would be a bit less country. It worked out well for both of them, since they released Hotel California a year or two later, which was a big success, as everyone knows. I inherited it from a friend, and it seems to sound just as good as the original 1969 pressing, which I should play soon. I first heard James Gang live, at the 1969-1970 News Year’s Eve concert/festival at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto called Winter Pop, starring Johnny Winter, plus 5 other bands. For $6! That set made me a Joe Walsh fan for life, and I’ve seen him play 8 times since then, with James Gang, with Barnstorm, with Eagles, and “solo”, with his own band. Enjoyed every show! Tonight, I checked the stereo’s volume level for curiosity, and 80-85 dB seemed okay, although 85-90 would have taken me closer to the concert experience, which was likely over 100 dB, especially since we were about a metre and a half (5 feet) in front of the stage speakers at that show. Maybe over 110 dB, since at the time we improvised earplugs out of paper napkins because it seemed so loud. Great, but really loud.5 points

Mornin' all The usual Mexican beans. Wife prefers the Peruvian, but... when I'm buying, I get what I like. The Peruvian is good [and a mghty fine substitution], but the light roast [acid] upsets my stomach. Drinking a glass of milk first helps... Happy to see the thread back... and where is @Tarheel? Snow/iced in? 6AM.... about time to roust the neighbors with a trip to doghouse. Me being "quiet" is enough to be heard off the property... LOL4 points

Good Evening, I just wanted to post a thank you to the forum. I have been in the process of building a set of clone La Scalas over the past couple months and have read many of your threads to find necessary specs, prints, etc... Years ago, while helping my uncle set up for an event he was DJing, I was taken aback by his set of La Scalas. I got married back in August and asked him to borrow them for the wedding not knowing he had sold them years ago. He pointed me in the direction of his friend who had bought them and I was able to use them. Long story short, I got bit pretty hard by the Klipsch bug recently. -Evan3 points

Yup, he's still havin fun! Great lp. Not really a Willie geek but appreciated this lp more than I'd like to admit. EVERYone is on it and the coolness factor is off the charts. If you just take him or leave him you'll be hitchin a ride in no time with this one!3 points

Morning grasshopper! Haven't been on the forum much lately. Ice and 24 degrees here getting up to 40 today. Power went out around 5:45 am preventing the auto coffee grinder to keep it's 6:00 appointment. Lit the gas stove to boil water and then the power comes back on. So one cup under the belt and headed back to the kitchen. As for the lock I guess we all need to stick to the 97 out of 100 things we can discuss and leave the other 3% for Face Book. Nuff said about that.........3 points

Joe and the boys? The stories I could tell. lololol Give ya a hint @Islander look on the run out groove on your lp's for an inscribed comment from him. That was how ya knew it was a first pressing back in the day before Discogs. "Dat ain't no bananna dat's my nose" was one of them. lol Another about a death that I won't go into. Can't say a bad word about him but when he says he's done at a show? Trust me he's outta there. Rare if he does an encore. Bit different w/the Eages now.3 points

Very interesting perspective on the two K77 versions. I’ve only had experience with the K77M variant. I have them in my La Scalas and Heresys. From your impressions it sounds like the K77M is a little bit hotter than the alnico version. Years ago I “upgraded” my Heresys with CT-125s. It sounded like my tweeters were missing. It didn’t take long for me to put the K77s back in. In my La Scalas, the difference between the K77M and CT120 is a little more subtle, but I still prefer the stock tweeter even though on paper the 120 is better. Looks like you and I are in the minority on the subject of tweeters.2 points

Truth...Dave. I also have a large male Saint Bernard and a 125# Bloodhound. I think I remember you mentioning living rural in Tennessee....of which Bloodhounds seem endemic. Michiganders don't recognize Bloodhounds right away. But...yes, slingers on walls, furniture, windows, and speakes, are daily cleaning opportunies. We actually have a 'dog car' that we use to transport our canines...2 points

Ohio heat wave right now. 7pm Saturday and it's 26 and going down tonite. On the upside tomorrow we were supposed to get 1-2 inches of white stuff. Now the cell moved up and it's 2-4. Gotta love it! lol2 points

Couldn't agree more with this statement. Just got a pair of stock '77's yesterday and have already got way more enjoyment out of them then I expected. I also have a pair of 77 all stock Cornies, and they're great. But I like the LaScala's even more. I don't find them harsh, I find the bass fine for me, and love their looks. Simply a wonderful piece of gear.2 points

Great find Melo! Keep nosin cause everything you need is out there somewhere! I'm ALWAYS perusing auction sites and fb marketplace for things. My butcher block for the turntable, stand for over my sub and the 5 shelf oak shelves were ALL dirt cheap. Just keep looking it's out there. I sure hope I can get the next purchase cheap. Got my eye on something you don't see every day. It's old and a bit beat up but it's the real deal. Now to buy it on the cheap! I'll know next weekend! .2 points

Feeling guilty... Let me explain why. Some of you will know that in the past two years I started buying vinyl records again, new and used, and I was in need of additional storage. I used some apple crates up to now, but wasn't completely happy with those. So this morning, we went to a local thriftstore, where they sell used furniture. I found exactly what I needed. A small, massive pinewood cabinet to store cds and vinyl records. I rolls on 4 wheels of a quality they don't make anymore. I used some wood re-newer on it to bring back its shine. It has a nice patina. I live in wood home, something quite rare in Belgium, btw, so it fits the style of our house. So why guilty? In that thriftstore they charge per metre, so I paid €1.8 for it. That's not a typo, I paid less than 2 euros for it! My teenage daughter cleaned out her wardrobe, so I'm going to bring the clothes she grew out of to the thrifstore, to set the balance right... Some of the clothes she wore just once... Imagine listening to a vinyl record just once... What a shame would that be. Anyhow, glad with my new vinyl records storage cabinet on wheels.2 points

Good evening / morning friends! Well, the Longfellow Music Hall is beginning to be thinned out to just one audio system. BIG changes here in the formal livingroom where there has NEVER in the 15 years in this home been anything more then a Bose Wave System. But, I moved the Klipsch RP280F towers up to the second floor, and also the Bang and Olufsen Beomaster 6500 system as well and the B.I.C. table too. I am enjoying music on the second floor like we've never had before! Here is a vibe photo from this afternoon with amber up lighting on the speakers.2 points

Newly produced EL84 tubes cost between 10 and 25 euros/dollars. Some of them produce great sound. NOS EL84 tubes cost more and they date back to the 1950s, 1960s. They are desirable for guitarists for example, because it allows them to create that typical timeperiod sound, if used with the vintage guitar amp. Audiophiles like nos tubes because they believe the last longer and were made better, and therefore sound better. You can recognize nos tubes by their packaging (can be forged) and by the etching on the glass ( can be forged too). I've used new and nos Sovtek tubes with my Tubecube 7, and I can hardly tell the difference. Last but not least, the pre-amp tube affects the sound more than the power tubes.1 point

The Reisong's (A10 or A12) won't improve your sound (had and compared the A10 to the 6P1) and will sound better if you make the following low cost suggestions: (a) get a voltage regulator (about $50); (b) replace the tubes: 6P1P (Russian) for 6P1; 6SN7 for 6H8C; and 5AR4/GZ34 or 5U4GB for 5U4C. Thank you epictetus21! I really appreciate your suggestions. I have been looking at voltage regulators. Is the Tripp Lite ($94), which also claims to be a "power conditioner" and has 6 outlets, worth almost twice as much money as the APC LE1200 Line-R ($57) with 4 outlets? Can I use an extension cord or power strip for more outlets? Due to some unexpected delays I haven't even opened the boxes yet so my own A/B comparisons (6P1 vs. A10, A12, A20, A50 and MT-34) won't begin until next week when I have to decide what to keep. The 6P1 does have one advantage already, though: cost. They're cheap. In fact, I picked up two at bargain prices. So, I'm wondering if they might be used bi-amping. Any thoughts? This is a great post, I am new to tube amps and looking for my first so I am anxious to hear how the tests go, good luck.1 point

If he ever hears rattling or crackling sound in the future, during certain bass frequencies, it’s most likely the dreaded KLF glue failure issue. Lots of information on fixing that on the forums. The KLF is an awesome sounding line.1 point

It was the Beta Capsule and Hayata didn't say anything when he "ignited" it, rather Ultraman would say scwatch when his light was blinking and he had to fly away. As you may or may not know, Ultraman's energy depletes rapidly in earth's atmosphere and if that light on his chest quits blinking, well let's say it won't be a good time....1 point

Fantastic! Let me know how it sounds Paul. To me those DTMs have excellent mid-high range clarity and depth. Bass was lacking, I just bumped it up a little and my rig was doing that record to the best I'd ever heard. Think they rival half-speed masters. Those LPs from 3-4 years ago... darn I could kick myself they are around $100.00 USD for single LP releases now. Glad my others were good enough to keep!!1 point

I have two builds out using them. One pair for La Scalas and another for modified Cornwalls. It's always a little stressful waiting for feedback. The ODAMs do check all of my boxes, so we will see.1 point

I was asked by Khornucopia, a poster on this thread if I minded him posting similar wood. I start threads and sometimes more then half the fun is seeing how many directions it can go. You never have to worry about me giving you the stink eye and if I need a serious answer quickly I know I will be treated right. I have to admit I thought of Turner and Hootch with that big dog flapping lip thing and so that was my reward for the day here. Picturing the windows in the house and cars. at @StevePaul1 point
