  5. Have been spinning most of the day here. Some old and some new. Just a few. No rhyme or reason. Just chillin and blowin off jam nite. Then it happened. Buddy decided to do the vocals so I've been setting him up for this one for months. He does this hoochie cootchie squat down w/his mic BUT he's getting too old & fat to pull off that spring move up. Plus he's prolly been drinking all afternoon. A lot of us out there are in on this one. Tonight he got down and a couple of the women went out and offered their hands to help him up. I just got a video of the entire thing. 😂 😂 😂 I'm dyin... I could post it on his fb page and give him a real ride but think I'm just gonna play stupid and see if he says anything about it. hahaha THEN post it on his fb page. Yea, I'm THAT ruthless!!!

  7. You can find generalizations about all of the classes just by searching. Like anything else, the magic is as much in the execution as in the design. One advantage of Class A is that the amplifying device(s) never turn off, so there is no anomaly associated with switching on and off. One disadvantage is that Class A dissipates a tremendous amount of energy as heat. Don't even bother with Class B. It is intentionally nonlinear, and is seldom if ever used for high fidelity audio. One advantage of Class AB is that it is far more efficient than Class A. One disadvantage is that it can suffer from crossover distortion when the device(s) switch on and off. One advantage of Class D is extreme efficiency. One disadvantage is that an inherently nonlinear process is linearized (approximately) by passive filters. Those filters interact with the loudspeaker impedance in ways that are not always agreeable. Which one sounds best? It all depends upon the design, the implementation, and the application. All of the advantages listed above can be ruined with a bad design. All of the disadvantages can be minimized with a good design.

  8. I pretty much gave up any hope of ever becoming any kind of audiophile after seeing the amazing systems in this thread. I am filled with a jealous rage that mere words cannot begin to express.

  9. I am a big box evangelist and adding you to my list of victims is a pleasure. Those four woofer bass bins are as close to horns as you can get in the Klipsch lineup. I still remember the first time I got my set of MCM-1900's right and you can never erase that sound and nothing will really satisfy you except that sound. Big Klipsch Pro gear is remarkable.

  15. Got me thinkin now Mossy... Lil guitar boogie always works... Guitar Boogie is a blues rock compilation album featuring Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page together with the Allstars and members of The Rolling Stones. The album was released in the US in 1971 by RCA Records

  18. Sure why not? Such a great old lp from Roy Buchanan. Live Stock is a 1975 live album by Roy Buchanan released on Polydor. The album documents a show consisting of blues standards and a few originals[1] played in New York City, with an additional song ("I'm Evil") added from a later show in Evanston, Illinois. The cover photo was taken by Alan McDermott[2] and sent to Roy by Australian music commentator Glenn A. Baker. Live Stock is, reportedly, one of two Buchanan albums that influenced Jeff Beck, who dedicated a song to Buchanan on his 1975 album Blow by Blow.[3]

  20. Hi everyone, Thanks for all the support and replies. Approximately 15 years ago a pair of Altec Model 19 speakers came up for sale locally. I didn't have the money to buy them but a friend did. He won't part with them and says he is going to be buried in them! Some years later I found the original Altec plans to make the speakers were freely available online. I studied the plans carefully and noticed most Model 19s on YouTube and for sale on eBay are constructed a little differently. So I purchased a complete set of Altec 19 drivers and crossovers from an eBay seller who had modified the cabinets and was not happy with the result (I didn't buy the cabinets). It took me a year to plan the build, source everything and finish them - all except for the covers. A couple of years on and I have finally managed to source all the bits required to construct an original set of matching speaker covers. It has been quite a mission to complete them. The final cost including the cross-over rebuild and the covers will be around US$3,000.00. A friend has a pair of B&W 801 speakers driven by a pair of huge Accuphase amplifiers. When he listened to my home-made Altec 19s driven by my upgraded Chinese 300B PSE amplifier he was simply stunned and left the house in a trance like state. But for the past year or so I have been getting more and more intrigued by the Klipschorns. I spent a lot of time researching and listening to them on YouTube, with both the good and the bad being considered. And have made the decision to buy. I considered building but had not been able to find the original plans or any guidance on building them. Also, I didn't want to go through the agony of building them. However, we are moving neighbourhoods next month and our new-to-us house has a second lounge so we will be needing another set of speakers. A shout out to Marvel - thanks for the plans and guide to building the Klipschorns. I may take that route once we have settled in our new home. I am originally from the UK and can still work with imperial units/convert between the two systems. This would certainly be the more cost effective option. Sorry Full Range, I can't get close to the Australian distributor price of NZ$36,000.00 including shipping and NZ tax (US$24,700.00). I'm working/hoping to be in the US$5-7,000.00 range, plus a contingency if absolutely necessary. Thanks RandyH I might try the Hope, Arkansas lottery, after all, I always live in Hope

  21. Yesterday for work, I went on site. Drove about 60 miles to get to a Dept of Children Services location. Visited (individually) with about seven women and a single male. They have a pension and a 401K. Part of what I do is review their reality with both benefit plans. I had one gal with me, I'll call her Tammy Jones...nice gal, down to earth, conventional... on looking at her pension she had a beneficiary, also named Tammy (however, last name was Smith). The Beneficiary was posted as a spouse. Ok, so that threw me for a curve. I've dealt with folks who have a special loved one....but I couldn't shake out of my head..... EVERYTHING about this gal is what I'd call 100% conventional. VERY conservative. That she might be married to another woman struck me as not fitting what I was seeing, BUT, there it is in front of me so it is what it is. I went through her pension benefits and, having never done this before, was making reference that if something happened to "her" then Tammy would get her pension. She said she understood all of this by the time I was done. I kicked over to the 401K account. When reviewing beneficiaries, she had "Billy Jones" down as her primary and Timmy & Sally (children) as her contingents. They were messed up a bit, (dates of birth missing kind of thing) so I dug into them a bit more. She commented that she knew she needed to adjust them so, me knowing she was married to Tammy Smith, showed her how to DELETE Billy. She had an uneasy 'giggle' that she understood... and to be blunt, I don't recall how we got from this stage to the next..... she said something..... maybe like "Why would I want to DELETE my HUSBAND???" To which I got confused. There was an odd 'vibe' through the entire conversation. I finally decided to just talk about the elephant in the room, her spouse Tammy. I said I presume Billy is the father of your children and your ex husband??? Uh.....no. Billy IS my Husband, why would you think that? I go to her pension and point out her Beneficiary Tammy. She says "THAT's ME" and now I understood. She was a new employee. She wanted everyone to know that the pension was to benefit HER verses someone else, not realizing that it's hers by definition and only upon her passing, does it maybe go to someone else. So she had put her OWN name down as Beneficiary (Tammy SMITH) She had then married, had children and changed her name to Tammy JONES and didn't know any better about how to properly designate a beneficiary NOR did she ever go back to change her maiden name to her married name as beneficiary. So this entire time, I thought she was gay, married now to another woman and I approached the entire conversation a bit on egg shells so that I didn't say something that might be offensive to her (don't know that I would since I try to be respectful anyway, I was just being extra aware of the situation) She sensed something amiss with me and felt that I was saying some things to her in a bit of a joking way that she TOTALLY didn't understand (talking about if she (Tammy) died, then Tammy would get her pension. How could Tammy get Tammy's pension, if Tammy was dead? Well, I had no clue since I thought Tammy was Tammy's spouse. So we finally got it figured out and she's going to fix it (because if she leaves it as is, then NOBODY gets her pension if she passes) We had a nice giggle about this at the end, once we both had full clarity of what was going on and what was on the mind of the other as we had conversed.

  27. Building a set of speakers can offer you a chance to overcome any shortfalls Thats how my La Scala were constructed, and all known issues were corrected Now I have similar experiences with visitors as yourself - they walk away in awe And I agree - Kudos on the Altec 19s This is an old photo and some components have been moved on and replaced by others Soon after I embarked on a mammoth crossover build

  33. There are good and bad versions for all amplifier topologies. All Class D means is the output transistors are not being used as linear devices but rather as switches turning on and off around 100,000 times per second between rail voltage. Some don't even have filters at the output to filter out the switching frequency and they rely upon the natural low pass filter hooked up to the inductance of the voice coil. Although the basic function between different models of Class D amps is the same some just do it much better than others and they just keep on making improvements. Zetex came out with a chipset that is supposed to be amazing and the next big step on improving Class D amps. I forget which amp company (NAD?) uses these chips in their Class D amps but they confusingly call the amp Class Z as a marketing tool because they were one of the first companies contracted to use the new chips from Zetex. Get it, Class Z, and the name of the company Zetex, pretty clever marketing boys

  38. Kudos on the Altec 19s, they look superb. I heard a pair in the mid '70s, but they weren't positioned well and were played far to loud. Touring in the early '70s, played at a coffeehouse with a similar model in the pro line that sounded spectacular.

  39. How about a pair of LaScala's ?...easier to build, more flexibility in room placement and some have said more phase coherent than the Khorns...add a good horn loaded sub and you have better bass than either the Khorns or your Model 19s Just a thought.

  40. Yes, it’s a gem - German engineering 🇩🇪. I have another 701 stashed away for back-up or parts but this one just keeps turning. The queuing damper isn’t like new but that’s no big deal. I have an old 1219 too. I’ve only run them with the stock Shure VN15III carts and I still have a few NOS carts and styli to last the rest of my life.

  42. There can be Class AB push-pull amps, and there can also be Class A push-pull amps.

  43. I second that thought. The La Scala build is much simpler than that of the Khorn, and no, you don’t need a horn-loaded subwoofer. A regular direct-firing sub will do fine, although since I upgraded from a single 10” 400-watt Paradigm brand sub to a pair of 10” 850-watt subs by the same company, the system went from sounding pretty good to sounding amazing. Also, you can buy replica type A or AA crossovers from Crites, which beats trying to invent your own.

I'll give him a pass. Maybe! 😂 Woody Hayes ALWAYS paid it forward up here. It's a Buckeye kinda thing. We're all blessed to have corporate stand tall with their DONATION. Wherever they go someone is going to be able to live the dream so many of us have. The odds of winning aren't good but... ...I've blown $100 once or twice on a Saturday night. 😂 Belly up to the bar boys it's time to go for the gusto!
