  1. The Johnny Winter double LP, Second Winter, also has only 3 sides of music. The text on the cover explains that they didn't have enough songs for 4 sides, but compressing the songs they did have to make them all fit on just 2 album sides would have forced the recording to have lower volume (lower bass volume in particular, I'm guessing), which the band deemed to be unacceptable, thus the 3 sides only. That makes me wonder about those K-Tel compilation LPs that had 10-15 songs on each side. It's probable that the cheap record payers that many of us used when we were teens weren't good enough to let us hear the difference between those LPs and the more normally recorded ones, which had a maximum of about 22 minutes per side.

  3. Good evening everyone...........well, it is Wednesday evening here and over on RTM doing a vinyl spin or two. So, I noticed on this page, there were some recordings being played that were pretty vintage. I find it difficult to imagine that I have had this album some 51 years and bought it brand new when it was newly released, I had just graduated from highschool a short time before hand, and I am going to be 70 this year !! James Taylor - Mud Slide Slim .....here is a photo on the brand new U-Turn Custom

  6. Reviving an ancient thread ... About a year ago, I bought a Fisher 500C from AEA. I paid a pretty penny for this piece, and why not, it was represented to me to be their 'legacy piece.' And, I knew that they were good - really good - their web site told me so! When it arrived I I was initially pleased with the overall sound, but the FM tuner section was terrible. After some unproductive communications with the AEA, I sent the receiver back for repair. I should have sent it back for a refund! Anyway before packing it up, I removed the bottom of the chasssis and took a look. I was horrified by the 'quality' of work I saw. Many weeks later the 500C came back from AEA and the FM performance was really no better than it was when I first recieved it, then it very quickly quit working altogether. By now I sheepishly admitted that I hadn't done proper due diligence before buying the Fisher (there were other forum threads about poor experiences with AEA), and had failed to do ANY proper inspection when I first received it. But, my own failures notwithstanding, I had 'been had!' Through the Audiokarma forum, I quickly learned enough to know that Dave Gillespie (Atlanta area guru-technician) was my best bet at having the Fisher 500C that I thought I was buying in the first place. I had NO interest in sending back to AEA. In my opinion, the FM problems were beyond their ability to fix, AND I had no interest in more marginal work being done to this beautiful Fisher. Thanks to Dave Gillespie and the graciousness of one of his clients, Dave worked my receiver into his work queue. Upon Dave's receipt of the unit, he confirmed my evaluation of the original restorer's work; although his description of what he saw was considerably more 'gentlemanly' than mine! He refered to the work as amateurish. He was charitable, indeed. So, a couple of month's of Dave's skill and wizardry completely transformed my 500C from a good-looking-but-useless receiver into a piece of superbly functioining audio art. Dave corrected ALL of the original restorer's shoddy work and incorporated all of the mods and upgrades for which he is well known. I couldn't be happier. As Dave performed his miracles on my Fisher, he sent daily, profoundly comprehensive reports of his work, with photos. This is the way everything should work! In fairness, AEA returned a portion (16%) of the purchase price to offset the cost of competent repair. Although grateful for even that, it was less than 1/4th the cost of the repairs and modifications that I had done. I feel sure that AEA regarded the returned funds as an inexpensive way to have me just go away. Since the better part of a year had gone buy, I was glad to get what I got. Well, kind of glad. Today, I may own what may the most expensive Fisher 500C on the planet (original purchase price, plus what I HAPPILY paid to Dave Gillespie to rescue me from my own idiocy), but I am absolutely in love with the receiver now. Actually, I hold no particular animosity toward the original restorer; and I have no idea whether or not the unit I bought is representative of their work. I do acknowlewdge my own failure by getting stars in my eyes over the promise of a great piece of vintage gear, not doing thorough research, and not returning the unit upon receipt. But I really do try to approach such 'set backs' with grace and humor. That said, I do feel that AEA misrepresented the receiver as well as their own work. I am so super-fortunate to have an understanding and kind wife who supported my efforts - and the expense - to get the 500C done right, and after 62 years, she's definitely a keeper. Just like my 500C! Thanks Dave Gillespie and thanks Linda! Robert

Says 'Audiophile quality Virgin Vinyl' right on the front cover, I must say, it is a very quiet pressing. Here is the artwork on both sides of the cover. Good night Paul and friends, until the weekend.....cheers 🍷 πŸŒ™

  8. I have been amassing these amps since October of 2013 and just received the final one last week. The tower consists of 7-Crown K2's , 3-Crown K1's , 3-Crown D45's , and 2-Crown CT8150's. It also has 2-SurgeX SX-1120-RT's to protect the amps and an ADJ switch to control some external server rack fans in back just in case it does get a little warm in there .

He talked to me as an adult gave me a hand full of Bullshit buttons. We listened to K horns,,,Belles. Decided then I was buying Klipsch, Later in the 80s I wrote a letter to Klipsch asking about a Klipsch group or club. They sent back they didnt have a club and a price list of T shirts.

  11. And the text is no doubt big enough to read, unlike when the 12" LP art is shrunk down to fit a roughly 5" CD case. I keep a magnifying glass on the table beside the sofa now, for when I want to read the text on a CD cover. Even then, it can be too small, like with the 2nd Billie Eilish CD, Happier Than Ever. On the LP version of that recording, the text is quite small, so shrinking it makes it really tiny.

  24. I'm sure everyone has one or more stories. There is an old topic on First Klipsch Experience, but I'm interested in hearing peoples favorite experiences which may or may not be one and the same. I have two favorite experiences and I will start with the earliest. Back in the early 70s, there was an audio store in Des Moines, Iowa called Audiolabs (still around, but the focus is more on HT today). I spent enough time there that I got to know some of the staff reasonably well. One of the guys who worked evenings had a full-time job and worked at Audiolabs primarily for the access to high-end equipment and the employee discount to feed is audio addiction. If I came in while he was working, he would generally grab me as soon as I walked in the door and drag me into one of the demo rooms to show me whatever new piece of equipment had most recently fired his passion. One time it was a pair of Klipschorns powered by a massive Audio Research amp. My friend sat me in the sweet spot then dropped the needle on ELP's Karn Evil 9. It was loud. It was clean. It sounded absolutely amazing! I had never heard anything like that coming out of speakers and I was hooked. Of course, a setup like that was so far out of my price range it wasn't even in the realm of consideration. Plus, I was living in a small apartment with a young wife and a baby, so yeah... Still, that was the beginning of my desire to someday own Klipschorns. I probably never will, but I do at least have Fortes. There is a funny follow-up to my story. A couple of weeks later, I took my younger brother to the store and ask my friend if he would play the Klipschorns for him. He looked sheepish and said he was banned from demoing them because he had flicked a piece of dust off the stylus while the amp was cranked and blew out both of the HF drivers. Even with his employee discount, he said, it was going to take him a while to pay off that little mistake. Let's hear your stories.

It doesn't seem like a scam, so "Alerts" didn't seem appropriate. The seller will separate, but I have no idea what portion of the $3200 should be the Yamaha and what should be the Cornwalls. The price seems very fair, so I wouldn't want to haggle. Opinions, please?

  26. Every heard of Barkley's Ultra Marathon? My work has me helping State Employees. As such, I have a territory. Within my territory is "Frozen Head State Park" to which I have a personal experience with. Yesterday, happened to be my day to go there. The Barkley Ultra Marathon was yesterday (and continuing through today I suppose) https://www.runnersworld.com/races-places/a26750827/barkley-marathons-faq/ As the Park Manager told me, James Earl Ray (who assinated Martin Luther King Jr.) was held at Brushy Mountain Penetentary which, is located in these hills on the other side of the park. Ray escaped and was caught just a couple miles from the prison. I understand he was surprised at how "far" he had travelled as he FELT he had gone 100 miles and he was only several miles. 30 years ago, a friend and myself went for a hike on HIS request. Being a sport (but not a hiker) I said sure. We went to Frozen Head, took off.....and got lost. We made it round about, to a fire observation stand so climbed up to try to get our bearings. Saw Brushy Mountain Prison down below. According to the Park Manager that I visited with yesterday, the access road to the fire lookout is 7-miles and it's a pretty straight road. We walked (lost) meanderingly to get there so we did guessing 14 or more miles through very rugged terrain. I limped for a month afterwards (literally). When we found the fire road, we stayed on it knowing that someone would see the car and realize that someone is out there. Maybe after a week they'd look and find our dead bodies lol. Having walked this terrain, I gotta say, the people that choose to do this race, gotta be nuts!!! The Park Manager said that these people come from all states AND many different countries to run this race. He said in the beginning it was more of something you'd be invited to join that not anyone can sign up. I don't know if that's still the case or not but he said these are world class athletes that come to this race. I think he said (not to be/sound sexist) that a female has never completed it. I think he said there was a year where NOBODY completed it. The altitude changes, the weather changes and it's freaking brutal to walk/hike it. To race it? Crazy nutso!!

  28. That's great you have a pro helping you out in a skype platform!! Definitely a lot better than just in a text form through a forum. I wonder if there online tech courses where it's a zoom platform with a teacher giving lessons on amplifier based electronics. Bruce Egnater (guitar amps) does an in person amp build class and they fill up pretty quickly so there's a decent interest in it. The zoom/skype thing could be anything from basic stuff to complete amp builds where the kits get sent out and you tune into a weekly with the class and teacher to go through the building/testing process while explaining and answering questions.

  30. Not going to lie but I don't have time to read through 15 pages. The motorboating which is always a low frequency oscillation from a bad power supply capacitor is most likely the issue. Also these are ultra linear amplifiers and there is more voltage on the screens than the plates, modern tubes hate these amps and it's typical for a new tube to not like the high screen voltage with these types of amps. I doubt the transformer is bad but that's easy enough to test, typically when they fail they just pop fuses instantly. The motorboating from a bad power supply capacitor is an oscillation which can also cause the power tubes to go into a thermal runaway condition and red plate also drawing too much current and red plating the rectifier tube. Since no fuse blew I doubt you shorted a screen on a power tube or a transformer is shorted. Did you replace the multi-section can capacitor during the 'rebuild'? I'm still sticking to my original hypothesis, a power supply cap went bad and caused low frequency oscillation.

  33. Interesting as I just had a professional hearing evaluation with my new insurance after turning 65. I have a test chart from 30 years ago that shows I've lost some high frequencies, but the audiologist said if he were just looking at my test results instead of me, he would have predicted a mid 40 year old. So I got nothing to complain about. But I've been pretty careful with my hearing but I now regularly work on big drilling rigs that can be quite noisy. So...ROCK ON Garth!

  35. Ultralearning by Scott Young. Found relatively fresh learning strategy ideas to try. I have also seen a great movie while surfing through movie review essays about character called The Peaceful Warrior(useful reference). The main character, Dan Millman, was a university student and a locally famous gymnast who had a dream about winning a National Championship competition. After many missteps, failures, and complex challenges, the guy realized that he had to discipline his soul character to be a better person in general and an athlete who is happy to do his job.

  36. I don't do any needle drops anywhere. I always start at the beginning and play the entire album. I paid for the thing so I listen to it all. I go analytical on many wondering why it was put together the way it was. Sometimes other songs merit as well as the "ones" you like. No lift chair here yet either. But maybe. Ever wonder how many times you've gotten up to flip an album in your lifetime? Nope not me. I'm ridin the storm out til i HAVE to get up. State Trooper friend of min told me when he retired he wished he had a dime for every flip he made in his 30 years as a road wario. I said yea, me too! Had a good laff outta that one. )

  41. What??? Did you see where @geezin' is from? The man is from West Virginia! 🀣 I would wager there isn't a used Klipsch speaker, much less a used SVS within a two hour road trip of him, and I don't even know what area he's from. I'm from Parkersburg where Columbus, Ohio is a two hour trip, one way. The Khorns were a two hour trip, the La Scala's a six hour trip. RF-83 package? Fourteen hours, one way. I Love road trips. 😎

  42. I'm not that expert. I used to own LS and Khorns and I did the poor man's version of time alignment. I used an external horn and driver for the tweeter and moved it back along the top to align with the throat of the mid driver (see pic of Khorn, below. SEOS 12" waveguide and Denovo DNA 360). I couldn't hear a difference and I don't know that it made any difference. I've always heard that to time align LS each driver would need to be individually powered and then use a DSP. After measuring, the DSP would implement the time delay needed for each driver. All of that is above my pay grade. Sorry if I wasn't of much help.

"Well, Samuel rode lightly on top of a book and he balanced happily among ideas the way a man rides white rapids in a canoe. 47. Available today. 12/16/2021 MultEQ-X software works as an add-on to the MultEQ system already embedded in many Denon and Marantz AVRS. Users get complete control over their target sound, with the ability to customize the frequency range and tonal balance of each individual speaker in the system. A virtual AVR is included with MultEQ-X for free in order to demonstrate the features and settings available. In order to calibrate an AVR, a license must be acquired through an in-app purchase. This license entitles the user to calibrate one AVR for the lifetime of the AVR. Licenses are per-user and per-AVR-serial-number, and are non-transferrable. More than a sleek interface to the built-in MultEQ technology, MultEQ-X decouples the delivery of technology from the delivery of hardware. It will be the first place users can experience many improvements and advancements to the MultEQ suite of software / firmware room correction that are currently under development.

  48. I was listening to this on the RP-600M and an old JVC RX-403 receiver from probably the 90's. I just dug up the receiver and was surprised how good it sounded. Play this loud, it takes horns to play horns. Stan Kenton never sounded better.

  49. Pretty sure the high pass filter to the K-77 was identical on the AL, AL-2, and AL-3 crossovers...around 6000Hz. Thanks for the clarification on the low pass filter, I just couldn't remember. At some point Klipsch, Inc went with the 4500 Hz XO point. I didn't take notes as I should have to document exactly which version that was.
