  12. Now you have challenged me. Well, art refers not only to pictures, we know that. Everything can be art and the artistic value is always in the eye of the beholder. Often attached to works of art are small stories, memories and achievements that one associates with it. Memories are awakened and alive. I have brought me from Bali this picture, it was a street painter in Denpasar, the capital of Bali, his pictures showed and sold. The batik painter is called Agung Petulu. We talked for a long time about his classic Balinese way of painting. It is a picture from the Gods and Mythens saga. A monkey prince is asking for the hand of a princess. The longer you look at this picture, the more loving details you see.

  13. Hi all, We recently moved into a new house that has a big open room over the 3 car garage. I use this has my office and guitar room and am planning a theater with a 120" screen and projector. I would like to also try to incorporate a 2-channel Heritage system in here, too, and was curious about your thoughts. 5.1.4 system will be RF-7 iii's and RC-64iii up front. Ignore the TV below, just in place temporarily until the 120" screen and ultra short throw projector get here. Unfortunately, with the low ceilings, I will only have ~35" underneath the projection screen. I had initially thought about moving out the RF-7's a little more wider and then putting a pair of quartets just inside them, as I believe these are the biggest Heritage speakers under 35" which wouldn't interfere with the screen. Although yesterday I realized I do have 2 corners, so perhaps I could move the RF-7 in as much as possible and then put some bigger Heritage speakers to the outside? However.....the whole left side of this room is storage, so I'd need to be able to get to the doors there, which would mean La Scala or Klipschorn would need to go on something like Herbie Gliders. I think this is probably ok as people use these anyway and I think they'd allow me to get into the storage doors? Klipschorn would be the ultimate but I only have 4' there to the left of the leftmost RF7 and since those need to be pulled out a little from the wall, I wonder if that's would interfere with the corner Klipschorn? I'm also wondering if the 20' soundstage is perhaps too wide for the room and my seating position. Any suggestions here from anyone who's use the same space for home theater and 2 channel music?

  14. I just saw a set of RP-5's come up for sale locally. (The ones with the built in subs on the sides) The label says "RP 5 Black B" and I asked the guy what was the reason that it was a "B" stock speaker. I was thinking most likely a laminate issue or something simple. He said they aren't "B stock" speakers and that the "B" stood for black. (Seemed redundant...right?) Then, I looked up some images online and noticed the labels said "RP 5 Black A" Am I missing something here? I have owned many Klipsch speakers over the years, but I have never run into a label I couldn't decode. Any help is always appreciated. Thanks!

  15. I picked up a pair of Polk Audi Monitor 5b for $25. They're skinned in vinyl and have a couple dings but sound great. I think I'll be veneering them myself for practice. if I don't do a great job they'll still sound good on my bedroom system anyways so what the hell? Y knot?

  16. Trade only? I don’t see a selling price, just a retail cost. He’s into horns! Did you see his even bigger RCA horns on the side wall in his listing photos? Wow! Nice! I’d enjoy owning them!

  18. The jumper should be right on the PCB board, without it the two push pull devices have different gain structures and create nonlinearity, if you didn't know about the jumper than I doubt you installed it so I'd be confident to say you have been listening to the amp with the higher distortion setting. When you install the jumper it places a Capacitor in parallel with the degeneration resistor at the source of the PNP output device which increases the gain closer to the gain structure of the NPN. The result is better linearity and less distortion. I wonder how many people that built these amps haven't played around with the two settings, personally I'd just install a switch to the jumper traces so you can change settings on the fly and do some fast A/B listening tests. Maybe even hide the switch out of sight on the chassis and have a helper around the house randomly change the switch setting without letting you know and see if you can blindly tell the difference between the two settings. It's a great amp to be able to tell if you like the addition of some second harmonic distortion.

  20. PROBLEM SOLVED ! After careful listening and feeling the cabinet with my hand, I concluded it wasn't the horns that made the 'ziiing' sound, but the cabinet. So I re-opened the cabinet and checked all the screws holding the cabinet together (and the front panel and the back panel). There are quite a lot of them actually, and some of the could be fastened with a half or even a full turn. Maybe the extreme dry weather is working the wood? I don't know. See hydrometer image attached. Anyhow, after screwing back the back panel, the ziiing is completely gone and all is fine! Thank you for all your input! It helped a lot in figuring out what was going on with my 50 year old speakers!

  21. Fairly recently. With the advent of new improved model ($35K a pair!!) a decision was made to discontinue. I and others thought maybe the full 3 way cinema units might still be available but no not those either. I believe Schu got THE last pair from Cory at Paducah Home Theater.

  23. I love cats and dogs. Mine finally have left this world. Our cats were indoors only, and we had their fronts declawed. (no comments about what that means to the cats... I understand) They were happy and lovable, and lived to an old age. They never tore up anything and only used the liter box (which was cleaned daily). Still have the fabric grills from my early '70s JBLs.

  24. I hit a wall. I need to receive a text for a password/code.. and all I have is a land line..... guess I just listen to some music... Don't have to worry about waking anyone. At 5:30AM it sounded like someone, in town - and it is a small town/village, set off, what sounded like, a cannon. The only people it didn't wake, were already up.

  25. I don't know how quickly I will get around to actually building the amp. We moved back into our house about five weeks ago and I still have a shop/storage room full of boxes and my electronics tools are in there somewhere. I do look forward to hearing this thing, though. My typical listening level is under 70db so, yes, most of the time the amp will be in the fraction of a watt range. I like your suggestion about trying it with and without the jumper. One of the main reasons I bought this amp is to learn something new through the process of building it, and because it seems to be a great platform for experimenting with switchable options for stereo/mono/balanced, etc. I also want to try bi-amping with the ACA driving the upper end and the Aiyama Class D amp driving the bottom. Should be a lot of fun.

  27. They will not be. They would be a downgrade. As established above, they're Reference, not Reference Premier. The R-800F is the big box store line. The RP is the Reference Premier line, better quality all hands down from what you'd see elsewhere.

  28. Mr Deal has a lot of very cool toys!!! I like seeing people follow their passions and enjoy success in so doing. I find it inspiring but thats just me. I am not envious or jealous. I like seeing people living the dream whatever that may be for them. I will just enjoy my little Primaluna Integrated and my Fortes and new Rel sub and pretend I'm wealthy, too.

  29. Have you tried swapping speaker channels? Left speaker to right channel, right speaker to left channel? This will tell you if it's the speaker, or something higher up in the chain (source, amp, etc). If it is in the speaker, try figuring out what driver/horn it's coming from, then swapping the driver from the working speaker to see if it's the driver. I also recommend loosening all of the terminal screws on the crossover, spraying a deoxing spray across them, and then tightening all the screws. Again, start with the free or near free steps.

  33. No No Dave it´s not Nils , I know you were kidding 😃, Lofgren, Baerwald ( @JohnJ No No not David Bearwald 😂 ) and Stevenson produced identical and exact equations for optimum offset angle and optimum overhang. BTW ...I got all Elkos that I need, they´re from Nichicon not Elma ! In addition I ordered 11 Mundorf Evo Caps to be changed for the Wima Caps. Than the project on the Dynaco Pas 4 Tube Pre amp is completed. Well Dave ...the first moddy on the Pas 4 was so clearly audible that it was a must for me to do the second step as well. Let you know when it´s done.

  34. Only someone who hasn't heard the new Jubilee would make such a comment. I've had the great privilege of hearing the new Jubilee twice now, last October at JubFest and in March at the PWK Birthday Bash. All the attendees at JubFest were Underground Jubilee owners or their significant others except for me. (I was invited because I had put in my preorder for them in May of 2021.) It was the unanimous opinion that the new Jubilee with its "horn-loaded vented system" bass bin was a significant improvement in every way over the Underground Jubilee. Anyone thinking Roy would do anything "half-baked" is being ridiculous. Also, it's not like this is the first implementation of the horn-loaded vented system. Ask all the Underground Jubilee owners who purchased a KPT-1802-HLS (or the smaller 1502) cinema subwoofer to fill in the bottom octaves what they think of them.

  37. I won this unique print on a forum auction used to raise money for charity Wolf Print from original Painting by Carole A. Thompson The wolf Cerridwen is a female and was born in April, 1994. She comes from an unusual line of breeding in that she is friendlier than most wolves. She was painted by Carol Thompson, a very talented local (Arizona) artist who specializes in wolves and Native Americans. The original photo that she painted from is a picture of Cerridwen with her paws on the top of her den box peeking over the top

  40. It best not to think in term of distance, but rather in terms of angle. If the listening angle is between 45-60 deg you will be fine. If it is larger than about 75 deg, then you may need a center speaker to maintain a "stable center" image. These numbers are approximations and should not be worshipped.

  43. I am refinishing a set right now. The veneer is thick, much thicker than anything that you see nowadays, but do be careful. You need to search to see others thread on changing the color from black. it has been done successfully, but there are challenges as well as deal breakers in some instances. If you want to change the color, you need to very carefully look at the grain of your speakers to be sure that the wood is the same on both speakers. Your speakers look like oak. I saw a thread here where someone sanded everything down and the speakers were different wood. The veneer might also not be to your liking if you refinish. Klipsch painted the veneer defect speakers black. Examine the veneer and make sure that the patterns match to your liking, all panels are the same type of wood and both speakers are the same wood.

  44. I refuse to pay the extravagant fees that concerts demand. The first concert I attended was Steppenwolf in 1969. That show was $4.00 in advance and $5.00 at the door. Now cheap seats are well over $100.00. Back then the promoter paid for tickets, and promotion. Now we have middle men with their hands out to pay. No I’ll buy CDs and listen at home.
