  1. Done! That was a good time refinishing these speakers. Time to hook them up and rock out.

  2. Well, I have owned most of them. I miss my LaScalas the most.

  3. Got the Titanium tweeters today, easy install and a perfect fit. Much smoother highs and the frequency range seems extended. Very pleased with the upgrade.

  4. You're spot on but I have him when he was playing with the Thunderbirds... They played one year when my gaggle and I hit Aspen for a couple weeks. Some lil club there. When John Denver started he played there about 2x a week.. lol One time a week would be enough for me. lol Doyle Bramhall is out w/EC so this one's almost a lock! Fingers ARE crossed anyway.

  5. Out of all the top tier Heritage Klipsch speakers that I have owned... there is only one speaker that I have felt the need to own more than one time: Despite lacking the lowest portions of the range of reproduction, the La Scala is the most perfect home speaker made.

  6. MCM 1900 and I owned Jubilees too. Actually owned all the Klipsch heritage

  7. Every time I have sold a pair of LaScalas (three times) the majority of prospective buyers echo this sentiment. I kept a pair of LSI Splits that my kids will inherit, if they don’t ask me for them sooner. But the the one Klipsch speaker that always impressed me standing in for the LaScalas in the interim was a pair of Tangent 5000s. Two feet out into the room they were tight and full. If I could only keep one pair as the best example of what Klipsch brings it would have to be the KP-301s. I hope it never comes to that, lol.

  9. That's a helluva group of guitarists/virtuosos to play together! I think the V's are Clark Jr and Mayer! John blew me away first time I saw him on tv after he was already a headliner!

  12. Ulan has some Floyd-ish tendencies @Full Range nice stuff. As well as @billybob playing a couple of the best-ever singers. Wasn't doing anything avant-garde today, it's been early Deep Purple among others. Any of y'all remember the first time you heard this on the radio? And could not stop singing or humming the chorus for days on end?

  13. I think I will trust the company that makes many of the woofers for Klipsch. Other things might work but why risk it?

  15. Now I HAVE to play this one: Seatbelts - Cowboy BeBop OST (Sorry George, but this one plays first, Tropea later.)

  16. Follow up: Put my problems up on the Dual Forum. That spring might not be that important after all, there were units with and without it shipped. I might get a spare platter bridge, a guy will take a look at his spares box. And while I´m waiting for the parts: Got the 1214 running again! oiled the bearings in the motor, now it´s quiet again. When putting it back together, there was a point where the mechanics locked up, somehow i fixed that. Pitch gave some trouble, fixed that (almost, will have to look at that idler wheel again... Not sure, but I think it´s off-key sometimes... So, might be slipping just a little bit sometimes...). Now, test-run. Put in that new stylus I got some time ago. Playing "Breakfast in America" - side A for the second time, with the new stylus now. The old one definitely was worn out, the heights sounded a little "frayed"...

  17. Possibly looking to see if anyone is interested in trading a pair of Khorns for a pair of piano black La Scalas. These were professionally painted and the caps have been upgraded on the crossovers. Still have all original caps and badges. One of a kind La Scalas that are functionally and cosmetically beautiful. Located in Central NY. Possibly may sell them but literally just entertaining offers right now unless the right number comes along. I have a pair of Khorns I have my eyes on.

  18. Update, the re-coned driver works. Albeit I believe the K-49 kit I installed has a 4 ohm voice coil vs. the original spec K-49-EP2 has an 8 ohm. There seem to be different specs for all K-49-X variants out there, I wish I didn't overlook that detail but I suppose if I find myself bent out of shape I can always tear it down and start over.

  21. Seems a bit far fetched that a woman would leave a Klipsch fanatic for a Bose dude , but if she did , at least we could be confident that she has reached rock bottom , and that things can only get better from that point on 🤓

  22. I went for the Low Priority aspect of it in my choice. Besides if "she" doesn't like it, she can leave and marry a Bose Dude. ROFLMAO.

  23. The Chorus II's are a light walnut, so I wonder if it might be better to just use Oak on the other speakers to darken them some. I'm not looking for an exact match. Oak sounds like it might be easier to work with. Actually I also plan on doing a pair of Black KG 2.5's too. I have a Oak Heresy II between the Chorus II's that doesn't look out of place. I might just do the black set and call it.

  24. im sure you know but the grains will not match & when you stain oak the grain can get darker in areas where walnut has a more even smooth grain so the color stays more consistent. a walnut colored stain from minwax or other brands should get them as close as possible color wise. follow the instructions on teh can & they will probably need a light sanding after applying it since stains will usually raise the grain & as i mentioned oak is probably he worst for that. another product is howards restore-a-finish or watco rejuvinating oil in walnut or dark walnut, that wont be as strong as real stain so might be a little more mild on the color. any product you use will get darker the longer it sits or the more coats are applied.

  25. So I see you went back and removed your reference to the Parts Express water proofing compound. Why did you do this? I came here to mention that it looked somewhat interesting and POOF it was gone.

  27. I confess that I am ignorant of the size of the Forte The Cornwall 2 is 390 sq in and the Forte 4 is 216 sq in. You are correct and the Forte is 45% smaller (please do not embarrass an old man and check his math). I used to own Cornwalls (1 & 2). I liked them quite a bit. I have heard the old Fortes and thought they were good. Are the new Fortes "that much better"? Note: I asked "better" not "prettier" The reason I am pushing the older Cornwalls is that they are available and affordable ( I am a cheap SOB and love a bargain).

  28. You aren't taking into account room footprint, which was part of the original metric. A Cornwall is considerably larger.

  29. Even more house cleaning... The original Dennis Had design, single ended triode mono bocks offering 15 Watts per channel in Class A. The unit was retubed in 2020 with a compliment of Brimar 6SL7s, Brimar CV-378 rectifiers and Western Electric 300B output tubes. The units have no sonic or cosmetic issues and sound glorious. Minor swirls on the chrome chassis from dusting. This pair includes the original Cary amplifier isolation stands in black. These stands have spike feet and an internal platform isolated with vibration absorbing pads. SPECIFICATIONS - Circuit Type: Single-Ended Class A - Power Output: 15 Watts - Input Sensitivity: 1.5 Volts for full output - Noise and Hum: -80dB below full output - Frequency Response: 20 Hz to 20 KHz +/- .75dB - Power Transformer: 1 EI Laminate, 200% Duty Cycle - Output Transformer: 1-EI Laminate, Special Bi-Filer Wound, Air-Gapped - Resistors: 1% Metal Film - Capacitors: Oil-Filled Coupling, .22µF@600 VDC - Filter Chokes: 1-1H @ 240mA, 1-10H@50mA - Power Supply Capacitors: 2 ea - 1200µF@450 VDC - Weight: 24 lbs. each - Dimensions: 7" H x 5.5" W x 19" D From the owners’ manual: The Cary CAD 300 SE operates in a Class A single-ended mode utilizing fixed negative grid voltage on the 300B triode output tube. The input stage utilizes a single 6SN7 dual triode tube. The output transformer in the CAD 300 SE is the most important component in the amplifier and has been specifically designed by Cary Audio for use in the 300-SE. The output transformer is an air-gap design with a commercial continuous rating of 200% duty cycle. The CAD 300 SE output transformer is an E/I laminate, silicon impregnated, grain oriented steel design. The windings are wax vacuum impregnated and the entire transformer is potted in high temperature wax. The power supply is a full wave center tap configuration running a CV-378 (heavy duty 5AR4) vacuum tube rectifier. The rectified 430 VDC is fed to a pi-L filter network. The filter capacitors consist of two (2) 1200 MFD and one (1) 100 MFD computer grade electrolytics for a total of over 230 Joules of energy storage. Each electrolytic capacitor is by-passed with a low impedance .22 polystyrene capacitor. The power transformer is also a 200% duty cycle rating on the CAD 300 SE. To avoid AC hum, both the 6SN7 and 300B tubes have DC voltage on the filaments to lessen AC ripple voltage from capacitively being coupled to the elements in the tubes. Shipping will be expensive. These units have the original factory packing and manuals and will be shipped in four boxes: one for each amp, one for the isolation stands, and one for the tubes. The WE 300Bs come with a wooden presentation case. Local pickup is fine. Please email any questions.

  30. I have not heard Roy's phase plugs but, the internal phase plug of the Celestion Axi-2050 is a very effective design in itself. I love the sound of my set and would buy the speakers in this ad if the round-trip drive was a few thousand miles shorter. For anyone within reasonable driving distance who is thinking about these speakers, make note that the tweeter drivers alone are worth $2000. This package is a really good deal!

  33. You might be in for trouble @grasshopper hang in there. Oh yea crank up that water, you've got the backup. "Gots" to have the am coffee! I think I have finally wrested control of win 11 at least for now. First I backed down to the beta channel, the old middle channel. Then the Windows Firewall Control has been bankrolled by a pretty big corporation it seems. Good for him, he's been doing this for a long time and it is stable now not like the Windows Firewall Notifier that was also around during the win xp CastleCops days. Using my license on just the Nod32 AV since their firewall is junk to me now. *I do wish Kerio had not reneged on my Lifetime License for KPF. I guess since it was discontinued, made into something commercial and renamed my # just went up in smoke! New setup blocks the net when msft or anything messes with it

  34. The rotation angle of your preamp's volume control has little bearing on actual power output, though that is unusually high. To figure the sound level in your room, 1 watt is 98 dB at 1 meter Add an amp and another speaker +6 dB, 104 @ 1m Double the distance to 2m (6.5 feet) is -6 dB, 98 dB Double again to 13 feet, -6 dB, or 92 dB, @ 1 watt, plenty loud for peaks and a 20 watt amp still has 13 dB of headroom for Flim and The BBs. I sit almost 13 feet from my La Scalas. You won't lose quite 6 dB/doubling of distance in a reverberant field (room) so this exercise is conservative.

  35. Too early to tell. RC-7's are 7 ft high and horizontal. Hooked up the RB-75's yesterday on 1-1/2 ft high footstools - AVR line out, cheap Chinese amp, probably out of phase and maybe L/R switched). But, by themselves I was very impressed - of course just played them "loud," during a one bottle of wine session.

  36. At 10x11.8 inches footprint my vote goes to RB-75's - haha; just got a pair and am very impressed Next would be RC-7's placed on it's sides (9x13") - haha just got a pair of those also

  38. this sheet music belonged to my grandmother. She was a factory girl. Ran around with some well known characters... George Gipp, Knute Rockne..... My sister has a letter from Gipp to her. She used to talk about speak-easies and gin joints. Saw a pic of her in her prime... she was a flapper chuckling to myself... the wife seems [overly] concerned that I am enjoying her vacation too much. In reality... I am just maintaining. Simplifying some things to make it easier....

  39. I think the Cornwall is as good of a "stock" hi-fi speaker as the world has ever seen. The cabinet is of such a dimension that it sounds naturally good (it approximates the golden mean in its dimensions), while the one inch horn throat makes it sound "open" enough that it is now no longer something that seems restricted in any way. Of course we can talk about the Klipschorn as being truly the game changer here, but I have always seen the Cornwall as one of the all time great speakers from ANY brand as it has so much right in stock form as well as being a flexible product that most can find space for.

  41. Don't get into here often, but twice in a month? Yea I splurged for some new ruskies. And these deserve to be introduced for some itty bitty 7-pin vacuum tubes to make my little Klipsch sing! They light up different too, and don't have the almost muddy bass of their siblings These NOS Voshkod 6AK5s up the dbs, have the wondrous mid to high range plus more distinct bass. The music? "It's Alive!
