  1. Having not seen the following page of comments, here's my thoughts on what I'd try. 1. You don't have much to lose by giving it a whirl 2. I'd suspect you might be pretty close, physically 3. I'd also wonder if the sonic signature of the K400/K77 would be seamless enough for you? (if so, fine, if not.... onto the next!) 4. You could do one of two things a) Take them active, go 3-way and align the signals b) Slap a 402 on top of them, go active and again, align the signal the active 402 would perhaps mate the best but not inexpensive. Going active with 3-way with extra amps, active crossover, also not inexpensive. Under that logic, I'd think the active 402 atop the bass bin would be the more simple solution. GADS, it's fun spending someone else's money!! Now I see why my wife enjoys shopping.....(she gets to spend my money) lol. (by the way, that is actually a misrepresentation on the wife, it was just a joke, lest she somehow read this and take me to task.)

Think I figured out why both daughter's laffed so hard when they saw my new phone. Day two isn't much better than day one. Perhaps if I turned things down a bit and focused? lol Lil Fugazi works wonders! Just think, I'll never have a photo that looks this bad with this new cell. Looks ain't everythin though cause it sounds fantastic. Fugazi to you too!

  14. I searched and did not find anyone with this issue. After a vacation where all of my equipment was unplugged from the wall, I return to have the LEDs on top and front flicker then stop working. I suspect a power supply issue as previously mentioned in posts, but am not savvy enough to replace it. Two year old unit out of warrant that now completely cuts out at random times using HDMI. Pops a bit with optical cable (that might be the TV settings). And I seek the wisdom of @KevinBif you've heard of this one. Also, I'm super curious - with all of the issues with Bar 48, what influenced you to purchase a Cinema 800???? I love (understatement) the brand also, but it seems that the Soundbar division isn't up to usual Klipsch quality standards. [I'm a newbie so the system won't let me message you directly]

  17. As already mentioned, I am looking for a fair value to pay the estate of a dear friend who passed away and purchased these speakers new. He became paraplegic about the same time he bought them. He had Siamese cats as companions and I am helping to clear out his apartment. Thanks for any and all comments. Attached are pictures as size allows.

  19. Michael I have listened to my La Scala AL5 in a relative near field setup (approximately 7ft to 8ft and didnโ€™t feel like I was to close in that setup. You might also remember during this Chief Bonehead class we were close to all the loudspeakers in the comparison and the La Scala AL5 was as acoustically coherent as the other models at the same distances in my opinion anyway. miketn๐Ÿ™‚

  25. I noticed a trend awhile ago people buy the 396's and sing a good praise then a few months they're up for sale this has happened several times. I recently installed 396 crossovers in my Chorus II cabinets and they did sound great but needed some volume 75+ db to kind of balance out, at least in my room with my gear. With the 325 crossovers I have in them now I get fuller, more detailed sound right off the bottom and perfectly happy listening at less than 70db.

  26. Always interesting to hear 'acoustic' opinions from different ears. I will note that as a dipole driver, it is important to keep it away from the rear walls. In my case, I have mine about 6' from the rear wall and about 3' from the side walls, which have absorbers on them. I have a set of 402's in my shop right now, and the sound is very different between the two systems. IMHO, the AMT is spectacular for a stereo set up in most rooms. My room is fairly large with quite a bit of acoustic treatment.

  27. Hi Ron, Welcome to the Klipsch Community forums. The public forums are the correct place to ask for help. This way, everyone can benefit from the answers.๐Ÿ™‚ I suspect your assessment of the issue is correct. Unfortunately, after two years, it is unlikely you can get a warranty replacement but I would try anyway. If you can't get a replacement your only other option is to take it in to a Klipsch dealer who does repairs or an electronics service depot and see if they can repair it. They may be able to locate a replacement power supply or maybe identify a few capacitors that need to be replaced. In any case, it's likely to cost a lot less than a new soundbar. I didn't! ๐Ÿ™‚ The Cinema 800 is my fourth soundbar. See this post for more details.

  28. Is this kinda what you are asking? Here's a REW voltage test using three different 2uf capacitors in series with an 8 ohm resistor. The plots are the voltages across the resistor. As you can see in the first plot, they pretty much lay on top of each other. The second one is zoomed in, and they are within .15 db of each other. Red is a Sonicap 2.01uf Orange is a 2.04uf oil can pulled from an old Heresy. Green is a new GE polyester 2.01uf I'm still trying to figure out why my crude setup always shows a voltage drop around 19khz. Mike

  33. Me thunks I'd better skip jam nite tonight. My day in the barrel again it seems. I can't believe I just spent 15 minutes listening to some young lady, as in hubba, hubba (u know who you are), try to sell me basement waterproofing. Knock on the front door, slammin down a bottle of water she was, so I thought it was the "other" girl from the landscaper I hired to clean this dump up. So I walked out to listen to her pitch. They were gonna go all the way around the house for me. Perfect I thought. She even had that metal flip box clipboard! I mean I was like when do you plan to start Monday? No, can't start that quick cause we have to set everything up. I said it's already set up I thought. Yup, I finally realized she wasn't from the landscaper when she started talking about a backhoe. Stay home tonight... She'll prolly be laffin about this all summer! My day in the barrel... ๐Ÿ˜‚ OR maybe I should go? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  34. here is an interesting issue I am experiencing right now. two nights ago, my system was running perfectly... the next day I only have sound coming from the right side, with VERY VERY muted sound coming from the left... very muted but audible if you stand next to that driver. here is the interesting part... if I swap the out put from my preamp to the xilica, the sound still only comes from the right speaker, even if the right side is unplugged at the pre. the same issue persists if I swap the input or the output from the DAC. I think this means the preamp has an issue... I think. I dont have another pre right now to test it. I can't really see it being the xilica OR any of the amplifiers and i cant seem to find any 'summing' control which would be summing the signals to the right side. I disconnected and reconnected all interconnects and swapping channels post preamp can't really be helpful. any ideas? Ive reached out to Craig @NOS Valves, but have not heard back as yet... I might call him later.

  36. I read your post, but you were addressing @Chief bonehead https://wiraelectrical.com/crossover-network/ Like so many things, there is the surface understanding of a thing, and then the much deeper understanding. Since I'm not an engineer, it shouldn't be hard to figure out which side of this I'm on. A true understanding uses a language called "math". I have no idea what it is. It makes sense that if you use different parts, then you are changing the original transfer function(s). The questions are, 1) how much, and 2) is it always bad. I'm in discussion with Roy right now and I think he's trying to figure out if he should fire me or not.

  37. Depending on how big is your room, small speakers will most likely not be satisfactory for you, as Islander said above. RP160 or RP600 in the recent Klipsch offerings is the lowest I would go for a bookshelve. But then again, if you can find some of the earlier models (i.e. RB75) in good condition, that might be even better.

  38. Sorry, didn't mean to make you go into a big explanation. I was joking around. I did have to move a bunch of stuff out of the room to fit them in there, including several bookcases. It's basically less of a living room and more of a Jubilee room now. And my dining room is now the library. ๐Ÿ™‚

  41. There are online retailers of automotive vinyl wrap products. I have bought from a few, including Amazon. Most of the vinyl wraps are repositionable on most clean, smooth surfaces. I can't say how easy or frustrating the installation could be for anyone else, just that there is "work and experience" involved to produce a favorable outcome.

  47. I do not come around often. Looks like Chris A has left this project behind which is a shame. What I have found since my last post: Getting the Xilica Solara has continued to be very educational since you can do anything you want with it. I had tried using a tremendous number of PEQs just to hear what happens and I got a good result but I think it is better when you trim it down from excess. The thing is you learn something from using too many. I have found that one should measure both speakers together below four hundred Hertz. You can adjust each speaker separately but get a pretty miserable result when you play them together; if a good result is having the least amount of phase change as possible from the listening chair. You will see what looks horrible when you measure each separately - each channel below 400 Hz is using the same values of EQ so you know each speaker is putting out the same amount of energy. What you are seeing is the room. But when combined you can see the correction works. This is confirmed by listening. I have gone back and forth numerous times between using this approach and adjusting each channel and the sound of the "stereo" approach is dramatically better every time. This cannot be ascribed to expectation bias since my expectations were for it to sound worse. I continue to think it is quite impossible to use these as full range speakers unless you only listen to small scale stuff at low volumes if there is any low bass in the recording at all. One can only pump so much air through those ports and I never forget Romy reminding people trying to get a horn to work above and below its cutoff is a BAD thing. Imagine trying to EQ the 402 between 400 and 2000 Hz. No better than to try to fill in that area where the horn cuts off and where you are hearing the box loading. This was the problem with the EDGAR Seismic woofers. The discontinuity is obvious and not conducive to high quality audio. They have to be the largest mini monitors ever made but the soundfield they throw is beyond the capabilities of any mini monitor. Alone they are not low distortion devices for the bottom two octaves. As the horn unloads around 150 Hz the distortion rises rather dramatically as one descends. Below 150 Hz I am using four of the RYHTMIK 15 inches woofers in the corners of my room. I have found something very interesting. One must play around with the phase of each woofer to find the smoothest phase before proceeding with EQ. It iwll not be what you expect it to be. One must measure with all woofers on. I have found with my setup that the four woofers create their own low pass crossover. I am using no low pass crossover at all. I am suing a a few PEQs to refine my slope. Phase "rises" as one gets to 20 hz but flattens out from there to 100 Hz where it takes a 180 degrees dip - nothing unusual there. With four of these the cones barely move even with low frequency material and the room is loaded immediately. And when the signal goes to zero the cones follow suit. No named crossover slopes anywhere in this system. I have a big spike in group delay around 240 Hz which I cannot remove. Yet. I think it is a room anomaly. At the chair my phase change is zero from 1k to 20KHz. It is simplicity to get flat phase with the mic close to the speaker. You can get that with about any EQ settings. I figure the real key is getting the best you can from the chair - yes, it is a sweet spot but one can sit to either side and enjoy music. Sitting behind is even better. For me audio is a singular pursuit since I know no one who enjoys listening to music. But it has always been that way. The better one has the system the more obvious it is that there is a distinct change in sound when the polarity is switched. Who knows what is right but I know there is usually a setting which sounds best to me. The more difference there is the closer I figure I have come to something good. The Celestion drivers are EQed individually. I find the left channel requires about 0.14 mS delay in the left channel for the above mentioned phase change - flat group delay from 1K to 10K. I kept going back and forth between using lots of boost for the top two octaves or tremendous attenuation for the 100 to 2000 Hz range. I continue to think a balance is best between the two. With 20+ dB attenuation the filters become unpredictable. I am using lots of boost at 20K with very low Q for a broad boost. I do not doubt this is what gives me the very flat group delay at the chair since the HF becomes directional but that is a good thing. I would like to hear Delgado's "phase plug" which looks nothing like any phase plug I have ever seen - a miniature ALTEC sectoral horn - which would give better dispersion but at what cost only an audition would answer. One has to assume the key to getting this quality is the controlled dispersion of the K402. The sense of space surrounding each element being reproduced is psychedelic. It is unlike anything I have ever heard. The speakers always sounded really good but as I have learned more about how to use the EQ the sound has progressed to the almost unbelievable. I was reading about the gymnastics B&O preformed with their $100,000 dollars speaker to control dispersion and to good effect from what I have read. I bet doing it the way Delgado and Klipsch did it with the 402 would be superior. I wonder if the 300,000 dollars Wilson Chronosynclastics or whatever outlandish name they have can do what these things do for a fraction of the cost. Of course those things must have some charming qualities for those with lots of money to spend and a great need for big expensive boxes to adorn their listening room. When one has to pump so much energy into those little boxes it is no wonder exotic materials are needed - along with that crossover/group delay generator - low sensitivity high power amplifier audio is the wrong path for music in my unhumble opinion. Wish there were more people giving these things a try but I guess DIY is losing steam these days. Basically another love letter to the K402 and to Chris A's transmogrification of it into something even more extraordinary.
