  1. Couple hours before my next appt so think i'll throw a couple on. Think my doctor is nuts with all of these tests but maybe he'll find something. Just another way to rape wallets when you're on the way out? It's almost like having a part time job. He thinks I'm doing this stuff every year cause it's part of Medicare he's nuts. lol

  2. I just picked up a vintage Sony STR-V4 receiver! It churns out 50 under-rated watts per side. It's paired up to a set of Sony SSCS5's speakers and a Sony SACS9 subwoofer right now but I am on a long, slow hunt for an affordable set of Cornwall's or La Scala's! I also have a vintage Sony CD player and hoping to find a Sony TCK-44 cassette deck to round off the system! I also have an Amazon Echo Dot hooked up so I can stream from Amazon Music or IHeartRadio!

  3. WELL.......WE DID IT!!!! AND BOY TO THEY SOUND AMAZING!!! (Even Wife Approved) Here are a couple of the shots of the speakers and their new home (as well as a lucky penny in the bass bin) But now I am going to need some real help! 1. The survived the trip and were monsters to move, everything is working well, tested using the passive crossovers and a Yamaha amp (ROOM FILLED WITH SOUND at 0DB on receiver and mixer not even close to max using standard aux out from laptop to mixer to AV receiver). 2.BUT......Now for the tune in as we will be revealing them to the public for the first time on 7/23/2022 for a disco night. 3. Are there any good guides or could anyone help me program the xilica as I have no experience with it. 4. I am not a pro audio guy so please help...to confirm wiring it is - DJ Decks -> Mixer -> Xilica -> Amps -> Speakers anything I am missing? ANYTHING I SHOULD KNOW TO ENSURE WE DO NOT HAVE ANY BLOWN EQUIPMENT?!? 5. I also picked up a Morrison ELAD Pre-Amp the seller had, is there a use for it in this setup or is anyone interested in it. THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!

  9. An RC-64 can keep up with the LS. I had mine between some Khorns and the listening experience was excellent. I've found "timbre matching" over rated. The L/R already play discrete audio information and in HT that usually means music. They don't play a lot of dialog, that's the job of the center. And the center doesn't play music. What you want from your center is crystal clear dialog, accurate sounding voices. It doesn't matter if the L/R can do that or not. The center speaker is the star of the show. Ninety percent of dialog/vocals come out of the center speaker and 90% of TV/movies is dialog. Get the best center speaker you can afford.

  14. Sittin on a day off btwn appointments! lol Unzipped "Regimental Sgt Zippo" by Elton John. This lp was hyped as his first with Bernie Taupin co-writing with him. For some reason it wasn't released. So this went into the manilla folder for later. Not too shabby if you like early Elton, aside from that, there's really no draw imo. Record Store Day 2021 "RSD First" release, part of the June 12th drops. Limited to 7,000 copies. Record housed in a generic black polylined inner sleeve, includes a "The Sound Of Vinyl" download card. Front sticker text: "THE DEBUT ALBUM THAT NEVER WAS! Recorded 1967/68 Contains one previously unreleased track and eight alternate versions In beautiful swinging mono. Got a million of 'em if anyone wants them. Inbox me! "The Sound Of Vinyl" download card. My good dead for the day!

Welcome, and some of us dig that good heavy stuff. Had that first track as an alarm on my phone a while back!

  22. I have experience with every type of wood finish currently available and I could not disagree more strenuously with the advice given in this thread. Even with my experience, I would not attempt to "repair" this almost undetectable flaw. For the purpose of this discussion, it would be reasonable to equate the lacquer finish on one's speakers to the clear coat on an automobile. I would not use any product or technique that would not be appropriate to subject your Mercedes to. If I was to do anything it would be to apply a quality carnuba wax. This may result in an acceptable improvement and is least likely to do harm in the hands of an amateur. Having said that, it is up to the OP which internet stranger he is willing to trust with potentially damaging his sizable investment.

  25. Don't knock the Reference Series center channel until you've tried it. Buy one on the used market i.e., eBay, craigslist, or Facebook marketplace. If it doesn't work out you can always resell it. My local craigslist has an RC-3 and an RC-42 II each for $100. Not bad.

  26. A Belle Klipsch makes a great TV stand as well as a centre speaker. Or you can always use the TV speakers for centre fill at low volume. Another obvious choice would be a Heresy II, III, or IV. They were probably the world's first centre speaker, all the way back in 1957. And the Heresy works fine in either a vertical or a horizontal orientation. And being a Heritage Series speaker, the Heresy has similar timbre to the La Scalas. The Forte would be good, too, if its height is not a problem.

  28. @dtel has the equivalent in his house. Not the Xilica, but Roy @Chief bonehead helped him dial it in and might have some settings for you to get started. Ought to sound awesome for that venue! Great pics, I'm envious... Are people going to be seated? Might need to have those raised a little bit to have the K-402s a little over head height so folks in the back won't lose the high end. Bruce

  32. Claude, I got that information from three sources. First, in the Stereophile review of the Yamaha MX-D1 power amplifier, the reviewer stated that the amp sounded better after having been on for 24 hours. I don't know why it would take that long for everything in the amp to stabilize, but that's what he said. That amp is Class D. Oddly enough, the front of the amp is marked Natural Sound Stereo Digital Power Amplifier, when its actually a dual-mono analogue unit. All Class D power amps are analogue, not digital, as I'm sure you realize. Second, I was told by a Yamaha tech at Yamaha Canada Music that the amps should be left powered on, when I called up for some help with the user interface of the RX-A2060. Third, I was told the same thing by a Yamaha rep at a Manufacturers' Day at the local AV/hi-fi shop. He said that the only drawback was shortening the life of the display on the AVR. I've noticed this on my older AVR, in that the element that represents the Tuner has grown dimmer than the other Input icons, since I used the tuner most often on that receiver. However, I found a way around that by setting the RX-A2060 AVR to Pure Direct. For ultimate sound quality, that shuts off every non-stereo circuit, including all of the video circuits, plus the feeds to the subwoofers. It also shuts off the display, which only lights up momentarily when you adjust the volume, then goes dark again. This way, the display is only being used when I'm actually listening to the system. Accordingly, at the end of the day I turn the volume way down (often I'm listening to Net Radio at that point), switch to Pure Direct, and head for bed. The Yamaha AVRs' power amps are Class AB. Also, since Pure Direct cuts off the subwoofers, it can be useful for late night listening, when you don't want to disturb anyone with throbbing bass notes travelling through the walls and floors.

  35. Been on a Crimson kick lately. Found some interesting stuff along with that last post of a reworked song. Alex ‘Stormy’ Mundy was a sound engineer for DGM I believe. One of his statements at youtube encompasses what he likes doing for his Stormy Monday series: During the making of an album, the direction of a track is open to all sorts of possibilities. More drums? More guitar? More of this, less of that, and so on. During the making of THRAK, there were hundreds of individual tracks available on the mixing desk waiting for a choice to be made. This version of People, with isolated guitars, taken from the dance mix David Bottrill made at the time of the THRAK sessions, imagines what might have happened if a different choice had been made to the one they eventually took. Lifting the song’s outro from the rest of the band, Belew and Fripp leave the group's orbit and are set adrift to float off into their own ambient space. That was under "People" included with this linkage. I have it here at one of my faves the 12th out of 12, make sure to read below it for his description for this laid bare Greg Lake masterpiece.

  36. At least proponents agree that it has value because people ascribe value to it. The same argument is s made concerning gold. So, the real question is which asset is more likely to suffer loss of faith?

  38. Everyone has a different tolerance for risk , so crypto may look attractive to those comfortable buying high risk assets . Unfortunately many crypto investors don’t really understand the risk and volatility of there investment and they may inadvertently put there life savings / retirement savings on the line . Many of these people have only seen crypto increase in value , they haven’t seen a down cycle, not until now . Down markets can provide great learning opportunities , they have allowed me to become a wiser investor. Crypto may make sense for some of the nimble and knowledgeable, but others should be very careful with their hard earned money.

  41. Update: I have decided to keep the VRD's for now. I haven't powered them on much since Craig did the full recap and checkup. However, upon running them in a bit after I posted this thread, one of the amps has developed some noise upon powering up... and as of this afternoon, I was hearing a little distortion when turned up. Therefore I am going to keep the VRD's until Craig has time to work on them again and figure out the issue. If someone here is comfortable working on tube amps and is still interested in the VRD's, I'd make them a great deal. Otherwise I'll just keep them and send them back to Craig in the fall/winter when his schedule permits. The Juicy Music Super Merlin preamp and Tercel II phono stage are still available.

  43. That is quite a tidy profit he is making. 1) sell them new, 2) buy them back used, 3) then resell them at near twice the original price. They are a good speaker and I hope the next buyer enjoys them.

  46. Fixin' to log off, my current DAC sold before the new one got here. Got to put it back in the box. Good Schiit gets around! Different from what the stations played when I woke up on the sofa after recording Dave Letterman and watching Johnny Carson (most if not all) on weeknights. But it is respectful & rocks, done a decade ago and has 8M views! Then, all the verses! It's been a while since I've heard them.
