Back in the 1980s, Dire Straits was hugely popular, and for me their first 4 or 5 albums were/are the best: Dire Straits (epinominous), Making Movies, Communique, and Telegraph Road, and then their live album Alchemy. Knopfler also had brought out soundtracks like 'Local Hero' and 'Cal'. By the time Brothers in Arms came out, they were so huge, filling stadiums, and I always thought that album was very polished and 'commercial', without rough edges - though the lyrics are a mixed bag, with a lot of sarcasm, eg 'Why worry' and 'Money for nothing'. In my pretty complete collection, I have one album not on vinyl, but on CD: Telegraph Road. Back then, I had it on cassette tape - the tape that introduced me to Dire Straits - and I found it so good that I promised myself this one I would buy on CD. Well, I eventually did in... 2018. The thing is, that historically, Telegraph Road was one of the first commercially available CDs. It did come out on vinyl, and so did Brothers in Arms, but back then, the hype was Digital and CD, not analog and vinyl... So I always find it kind of funny when people, myself included, post pictures of Brothers in Arms on vinyl, because when it came out, it was all about the digital quality!

They might be running recount and rebuild tasks which will mess with images and avatars...hopefully they will all return to normal when the tasks are done running!

This is very true I've experienced this several times over the years it could also be that your listening position is smack square in the middle of a "dead spot." Play some bass heavy music at a decent volume and get up and walk around the room maybe behind your seat or near corners to see if the bass gets louder in other places of the room-- maybe a rearrangement could help if possible.

A reply to all of you who have commented on Janet. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes and yes she is doing much better but still some ways to go. It is kind of nerve wracking to see side effects of the stroke and wonder if this days speech and articulation woes mean a growing new problem or just normal recovery which does not always progress upwards each and every day.

The final Jubilee puzzle – What to do with the boxes? I didn’t have a place at my house for them unless I wanted them to occupy a bedroom or unless I threw out a bunch of stuff in the garage. Luckily, my ex-wife graciously offered to let me store them in the huge basement in her house. So, they made the trip (well, two trips) today in a pickup rented from Lowes. They now sit next to the boxes for the Forte originally owned by my ex-wife’s father that are now in her living room. Caesar the cat is unsure about this incursion into his empire. 😊

Think I've had about a thousand of those since I put my # on the national ad for the house last year. I let google answer it now if the # is unknown if they don't talk to me I block `em. Think the fist few that I answered sold my # to more lists!

So here's a drastic change from yesterday, but this make my rig shine so much more than my last post. Guy that I picked up the new DAC from can talk like me after a quart of coffee, we've texted back and forth on a lot of stuff including the Aqua La Voice DAC he's running now. This guy came up `cause I got to enjoy him playing on the front lawn of a church downtown during the first jazzfest held back home. This matinee was terrific. It was when "Don't Worry, Be Happy" was on the airwaves. Think this is years later, we all got older! Wow this guy can still sing & entertain!

The drivers and woofers are very close to our standard curve. I just wanted to add that extra touch in matching them.

Replaced my (Radian) center channel tweeter driver today, so now my left front, center and right front KPT-415 & K-402 speakers all have the Celestion Axi-2050.

@Bubba_Buoy And it could just be that a) they don't work in your room(s) like the other person had trouble with, or, b) they just aren't the speakers for you. Room acoustics can be a killer even with speakers that may be "known" to have good/decent bass. Sometimes it takes a sub, or subs, to get to that point. My upstairs room acoustics do that to me when I compare the bass of any speakers being on the long wall versus the short wall in a 15 x 28 room. Being on the long wall always gives me better bass but the layout is a little rougher. When on the short wall, there's more room nodes where I lose bass in my listening spot. I'm currently torn on wanting to put it back the way it was where I was sitting on the long wall and I was about 10 feet back so I'm less dependent on a sub (Sunfire HRS-12). What's the room dimensions? Is it carpet, wood, tile, etc? Are there rugs? Does the space behind you open up into another room as in open floor plan? Got pictures of the room? I doubt you have speaker or crossover problems but there's always a slim chance. What speakers did you have in the room before? How did they sound?

I like this guy's style. He's got a nice converted barn for music, and a Binaural head to record them playing. Doesn't waste words either. 👍

So I have a budding HT set up, and the LaScalas are not sufficient for some dialogue whereas my old cheap soundbar excelled. I want to add a center channel, and wanted to get guidance on what would make a good match (aside from a third La$scala). Maybe a Cornwall, Hersey, or Forte? The audio shop guy suggested a reference center channel, but that didn't make sense to me and wouldn't match very well anyways. Ideas?

I could be very happy with a 3.1. However, due to the influences of keeping up with the Joneses around here, I've got just a few more speakers and subs past the 3.1. I like your choices.

Been saying for years, as well as PRACTICING what I preach: ALL Klipsch speakers need subwoofers. Now except for the Jubilee which has one in there already.

I’ll just throw them away in that case. I do have a Marantz PM7000n Plus a Yamaha receiver that I use for whole house audio. And another Marantz AVR downstairs. I just like the retro look of the Denon but I believe you all are confirming what I was thinking. Not worth repairing. Not as desirable as older Marantz or Pioneer stuff from the 70s.

Transient response to most audiophiles is generally understood as a gauge to how quickly a speaker responds to signal . I’ve never considered transient response as being related to ultimate spl .( transient peeks ) I believe that the OP is actually more interested in maximum undistorted output, or when compression of some sort begins to affect output peaks . Actual Transient response would be better measured in a time domain rather than in amplitude or output capability.

Me also... After our divorce I actually invested with her brother on some property in Southern California... all in the family.

Funny, as I was reading the OP's first post, this thought crossed my mind. So what is more important if one had to sacrifice one or the other, timbre matching or dialog? Would it be possible that the Heritage line could reproduce music accurately with great detail, but lack the ability to produce accurate dialogue that center channels do? If so, it would make more sense to me to find a suitable center that creates accurate dialogue over timbre matching.

Do you also have Walmarts? I found it interesting to go to a huge Walmart in Nanchang, Jiangxi, China. So different, yet so much the same. It's nice you get to store the boxes. I kept the boxes for my (much smaller) JBLs and used them when making over a dozen moves over 25 years. Still have the JBLs but finally let the boxes go.

They're notoriously picky about placement - separation, toe in, tilt back, distance from walls and corners. Experimentation IS required as a couple inches can make a big difference. Don't raise them very far off the floor. Future??? recap, new horn diaphragms, and a sub. While they're opened up, some seal the seams, some add bracing. The serial numbers should be stamped on the back edge and will lead you to the manufacturing date.

Ahhhhh, the house smells like hot asphalt. Boys started re-paving the circle and two streets into it this morning. Lookin pretty good so with a little luck I'll be able to get outta here later if I want to. Hasn't been paved in 15 years so it's about time I guess. Too many people cut thru here on their way across town and home. I can't figure out why they think it's faster since there is a traffic light for a straight shot thru the area about a block south of here. People... City contracted w/some big company to come in and take the old stuff out and used a local paving company to do the city streets. Had I known they were doing the new blacktop I would have had the other guys take out the drive and write the check. I know the owner and all the guys on the local company so I know I would have gotten a deal on the new drive. Missed another golden opportunity. I'm slippin! lol

I have a 71 Mach 1 Mustang...it runs but needs a new carb and new tires in order to hit the road! I've been busy spending all my extra money on speakers and vintage audio gear...the Mach 1 got sent to the back burner, LOL!

For the jub, we break in the all the woofers and compression drivers in the lab. We also match the drivers for a pair. Shhhh!!! That’s a a secret.

Your plan is to figure out maximum playback spl for home use on a speaker that is capable for filling a 200-300 seat commercial theater? These aren't toys... you'll shoot your eye out.

An RC-64 can keep up with the LS. I had mine between some Khorns and the listening experience was excellent. I've found "timbre matching" over rated. The L/R already play discrete audio information and in HT that usually means music. They don't play a lot of dialog, that's the job of the center. And the center doesn't play music. What you want from your center is crystal clear dialog, accurate sounding voices. It doesn't matter if the L/R can do that or not. The center speaker is the star of the show. Ninety percent of dialog/vocals come out of the center speaker and 90% of TV/movies is dialog. Get the best center speaker you can afford.

I would take this question apart into separate concerns: 1) The Heresy and the Cornwall have very similar midranges and tweeters, the real difference being the woofers and box enclosure, so the question might be, "is the speaker too big to fit into my room?" I'd recommend placing either speaker into the corners of the room, toed in, if possible. There is a good article by Paul Klipsch where he describes why this works 2) The advantage of the Cornwall is that it is higher off the floor like a tower, with the midrange/tweeter near your sitting ear level. This is a good thing. The Heresy needs to be placed on the floor, not on a stand or on a shelf (trust me on this). As such, Heresy risers tilt the speakers back to compensate for their low design but you must have a clear line-of-sight to the midrange/tweeters with no furniture in the way or even close to the direct path between them and your ears. The Heresy also does better in the corners than along a wall. 3) Room acoustic modes: this is a real problem in small rooms. The room mode problem will be there for any direct-radiating speaker, including the Heresy and Cornwall. The problem with the Cornwall is the size of its box - it will reduce your options in room placement unless your room is basically empty and without problems of windows and doorways getting in the way. I would recommend looking at getting bass traps for the opposite corners of the room to trap mid-bass room problems, but the room modes will still be there to deal with. I would not put damping material into the room, but rather use diffusers if you have windows, etc. Where you put your listening position is critical in a small room- and typically you must stay away from the middle and along the walls to enjoy the same kind of experience that you had with the Cornwalls in a larger room. The next modes to look for are at the 1/3 dimensions of the floor plan and listening height off the floor and away from the ceiling, etc. 4) Ceiling height: If your ceiling is less than 8' high or it is vaulted, then you will likely have issues is selecting a listening position. Ceiling bounce is usually a big problem in houses and apartments. Floor bounce can be an issue, but small throw rugs help to diffuse the midrange a bit. Bottom line: If you have the resources for Cornwalls, your interior designer (i.e., WAF) can live with them, you can use bass traps in the corners, and you can select your speaker placement and listening positions easily, I'd opt for them because some day you might not have to listen to them in a small room. The Cornwalls will not sound the same in a small room, but I would also say that virtually any speaker worth having will have the same problems, unless you are thinking about bi-radiating speakers, but these will probably lose their resale value much more quickly, and I think that you will eventually become dissatisfied with any small speaker systems in a small room over time.
