  2. There's not a more controversial topic than "proper nutrition." There are doctors, scientists, politicians, quacks, influencers, and chefs all offering up some version of perfect nutrition. Maybe it would be useful to explore and exchange some ideas here toward the goal of just feeling better (and maybe living longer too!). My Take On It I'm in the heterodox camp that absolutely disavows the recommendation of the USDA, and the American Heart Association. Their longstanding orthodoxy (since the 1970s) has been this: -Saturated fats cause heart disease -Replace them with polyunsaturated fats found in seed oils (canola, sunflower, safflower, cottonseed, etc) -Eat 7 servings of carbs a day -Moderate amounts of sugar I think the traditional diet that advanced humanity for hundreds of thousands of years makes more sense. -Eat plenty of saturated fats, from butter, milk, meat, nuts, cheese, eggs, yogurt -Eat plenty of proteins, from meat, eggs, chicken, lentils -Make carbs the absolute smallest segment of the diet. Eat vegetables for carbs. Absolutely do NOT eat any sugar, or sugar substitute, or precessed sweeteners like HFC. That effectively eliminates packaged foods. No fruit juice. No Soda - diet or regular. Drink water or milk. No foods that contain any of the "Hateful Eight Seed Oils" -Canola oil, Corn oil, Cottonseed oil, Grapeseed oil, Rice Bran oil, Safflower Oil, Soy oil, Sunflower oil. No enriched flours. Absolutely no SOY, and no SOY ISOLATES. No Pea Protein Isolates. No preservatives or chemical additives. Eat the fewest meals per day possible. Fast as often and as long as feasible for you. ---------That's my take---------What's yours?

  3. They are just amazing. As I said previously, it's hard to describe them without it just sounding like a string of superlatives. The only downside is that they are the most "ruthlessly revealing" speakers I've ever owned. I really can't listen to a lot of bad recordings on this system. However, with great recordings it's like reaching audio nirvana. For example, I recently listened to two recordings that I bought specifically as demo material for evaluating the dynamics and bass extension capabilities of a system. One is the track "The Gates of Däfos" from the album Däfos, a world music collaboration of Mickey Hart (drummer of the Grateful Dead), Airto Moreira, and Flora Purim first released by Reference Recordings in the mid '80s. On the track Micker Hart plays his custom circular drum setup called "The Beast". During the recording he actually lifts the setup and lets it slam back to the floor. The other is the track Exchange from the album Mega Bass, an album of string bass music by Frédéric Alarie. That track features an instrument called an Octobass, essentially a scaled up double bass that requires standing on a platform to play. These recordings were impressive on my Palladium system with P-39F and three subs. However, after listening to them on the Jubilee, I only now feel like I've heard how these recordings are really supposed to sound. The depth, presence, and dynamics are just unbelievable.

  4. It's becoming apparent I cannot hear what others do. I have a budget system consisting of a Topping PA3s,Schiit Modi 3 and Klipsch R610f fed by an '09 iMac from mostly Spotify. Occasionally I'll listen to CDs from iTunes on it as well. I find it revealing details never heard before on songs I've literally heard thousands of times. I do not even understand what fatiguing is when speaking of music reproduction. I will be moving up the scale on speakers soon. Just bought a house and cash is short and cannot make up my mind what to buy.

  5. I use exclusively class D amps. On the > 500Hz range I use a fully modded Trends TA10.1 amp (TA2024 chip) with a low noise, high current linear PSU. On the 60 to 500Hz range I use a 25USD (you read that right) AliExpress amp with TPA3255 chip and an external SMPS PSU. only the subs use class AB amps - that's what they came with. I don't find the Trends amp to be aggressive, not at all in fact - and the upgraded linear PSU really raised the sound, making the treble much more natural, less "spitty". Every system has to compromise somewhere; my compromise is to keep the system completely foolproof and having the least electricity consumption possible. It stays on 24/7, barely draws any current, stays cold, and if someone turns an amp oFF or ON there are no dangerous transients in the drivers; I don't need to use a capacitor to protect them. Other people in the house use the system; all you need to do is select your desired source and press "play". The sound is clean, wide open, precise, and transparent - every upstream change (including vibration footers, cables, and of course change of DAC or preamplifier) is heard BIG TIME. The personality of every element comes through with ease. Differences in recordings as well, obviously. The amps are also dead silent which is a huge bonus with 105dB speakers. I've recently swapped the Trends amp for a pure class A amp, it sounded different, sure, a tiny bit warmer, but not enough to have me reconsider. Of course they could be considered somewhat "sterile" compared to other amps but in my system, I feel it's the source and the preamp who give the most personality / signature to the sound, and I rely on them to give me the musicality I'm after. The amps are merely passing up the sound to the speakers. My budget is rather low, I used to own plenty of vintage or second hand class AB or class A solid state, but I grew tired of the recurrent reliability issues, and I did have a big class AB amp killing my woofers once. Now don't get me wrong, if I had unlimited budget, and if I was the only one using the system, I would probably consider class A or tubes (or both) but in the current state of affairs (and having just paid a HUGE electricity bill, a bill that would have been probably double if I was using conventional amps) those little class D marvels are a fine "compromise" and I prefer to focus on the source (my next upgrade will most likely be a new DAC) and accessories. YMMV, as always.

  7. In action on top of a test chassis for FW clones. I like to test FW boards before shelling out money for expensive hardware to see if I like the sound first. Need to pick out knob but for now volume wide open controlled by my FW B1 buffer pre with sub outs. Dead quite on my horns with volume wide open and sounds just like what I am used to with my Sweetie. Really good to my ears but who can say what another person hears or likes. I like it.

Pretty amazing back story right here: https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/for-one-night-only-at-the-checkerboard-lounge/ Great double LP with Bob Clearmountain waving his magic wand??? The Stones love the blues so why not leave one venue, fly into Chitown and crank this one out for the heck of it? It's all about family. NOW if you read the story you'll see what I'm talking about. lolol Muddy passed in 83 or 84. Guaranteed you'll have your groove shortly into it. You want it? Go get it! Thank me later!

  16. I keep telling my wife that we need to start a youtube channel. Today we had coffee and a bannana with real peanut butter (no emulsifiers - the stuff you need to stir). We have this every day for breakfast. She is making green beans with brown rice for lunch. She cooks the veggies in a cast iron skillet with garlic, onions, organic soy and a bunch of spices. She also has fried tofu in olive oil (it is sooo good!) and is making Tofu Sea sig. She also makes it with meat, but uses minimal amounts. Really tasty lunch. I like a salad at dinner, but with good ingredients, spices and olive oil and Chinese black vinegar. Then maybe some fruit and some pistachios because they set in your stomach and hold you over. Heavy protein makes you eat less.

  20. Klipsch may have them. Since I own a lot of Palladium speakers, I inquired about driver part numbers and availability last year. This was the response from Klipsch support: Sep 22, 2021, 9:29 AM EDT Thank you for contacting Klipsch! Our sincerest apologies for the extremely delayed response, we've been experiencing substantial traffic increases. You are correct that all Palladium models utilize the same K-151-OB tweeter (part #129112). The 4.5" midrange driver is also the same on all models (part #1007682). The 7" woofers do vary a bit. Part numbers below. 1010100 P-17B 7 INCH WOOFER 1007631 P-37F 7 INCH WOOFER 1010099 P27C/P27S 7IN WOOFER The 8" woofer on the P-38F: 1007632 P-38F 8 INCH WOOFER The 9" woofer on the P-39F 1007633 Woofer 9" P-39F I took a look at our inventory and it appears we do have all of the above drivers available as replacements if needed, though there is only one of the P-37F 7" woofer available. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  21. Yea there are more Coronets here than anyplace I've been in my life. Mopar dealers have obviously been Dealin' last few years. After hearing those being dogged day in and day out... being one of those is probable. But heck the difference in the sound like someone was raging just got me to bolt up and wait... Because if someone was that out of control, with that amount of torque and mph after ten seconds or so it was a few miles down. I'm a DieHard Mopar fan! Charger is a coupe. Coronet is the sedan. Don't care if "they" change the definition, I go for what I know.

  23. I thought I was going to hear sirens last night. Was just about asleep when at the corner someone floored one of those new V-8s, I mean not just red-lined but wide freakin open. I know the sound when I hear it. Whoever had good traction not much tire noise and headed S on the highway. Seemed "off" to me. Went and opened the door and then heard what I thought was a far off three part crash. Different noise than it was in 1972. Like three thudding noises in one. That was 11:44 didn't hear sirens for twenty minutes. Guess they were two separate things. Several cars went that way, but was he off the road in the weeds, trees or swamp and no one saw? I'll check the news here the next couple days, but thinking he made it to GA!

  24. sterile is the fatigue... for me. it's not engaging or 'emotionally moving'... bland, dry, sterile, fatiguing. I also find that the class D image is pretty flat... and I am chasing that dragon that is liquidity and dimension. this pertains ONLY TO the midrange... as far as bass goes, the damping factor for class D is off the charts good... but music lives in the mid range. this is why I use a tube amp for my mid's and a class D for my bass.

  25. You had sirens at 4 and I had landscapers next door @8:30? Not at my place yet but it's a different company. If landscapers have a company? Maybe it looked like too much work for her crew? I've heard she's buried in business though. She did mention fall for the back yard and the bushes though. Maybe she's gonna catch it nd maybe she won't but I'll go an entirely different way if she doesn't show. Eliminate the bushes and just go w/a few sections of vinyl fencing. Vinyl coated and not much maintenance.. I think all puters suck! I don't know a thing about them and this one's as old as dirt. Had a new one laying here for about 3 years. lol I can deal with those sunrise pics grasshopper. We don't get those painted skies much around here.

  26. Even in (most) equipment that only has a 2-prong plug, the chassis is grounded to signal ground through a 0.1uf cap. Sometimes there is a "lift" switch for this. This allows the chassis to act as a shield (EMI/RFI) for the internal circuitry.

  27. Perhaps dry is another term for some of the cheaper ones. I have tried a few of them over the years. In fact I am using a TPA3116 board build for my computer and cheap speakers in my kitchen and just leave it on all day. Good enough there. The ICE boards have a tubey kind of sound. Pleasant sounding. I have a TPA3255 board build with a linear supply I could be happy with if it were my only amp and I am mostly a class A guy. Best bass I have heard in an amplifier. Definitely the wave of the future in mass market amplifiers for sale other than the high end target market. Many guys here love their higher priced class D amplifiers as well.

  28. I see Mike Stehr liked my last post. He is another guy, I could not remember his name a few days ago, that I like his builds on this forum. On the same level as Maynard's builds. Real professional looking. I got to thinking why you have an awful hum without tying the amplifier ground to chassis ground. This build uses a shielded transformer with a green ground wire that should go to chassis ground for safety reasons. Having two ground points in your amplifier is more than likely going to cause ground loops, hum. Just as soon as I attached a test wire from star ground to the chassis ground the hum and noise died, nothing. I think I am just going to attach the star ground directly to chassis ground minus a resistor on this amplifier. I looked at my Sweetie and that is what I did when it was built years ago. Maynard installed an AC cap, called safety cap, on the input AC that should take care of any noise coming in from there. Most of those upright other power transformers do not have a ground wire on them that you attach to chassis ground. Not shielded. The other builders participating on this thread were a lot help with this project. George caught where I did not attach a ground point like Maynard's schematic. And Captain made a schematic with the voltages at different points in the build which I used yesterday morning finding the problems I had. I bet he has one of those electronic calculators I do not want to even touch. My thing is to get an old audio receiver or amplifier as not working and see if I can fix it. The problems I had were a direct result of not doing what I said I was going to do a couple of days ago. Stop and sleep on it and then check my work in the morning before firing it up for the first time. I did not do what I said I was going to do so I had to do the checking after I first tried to fire it up. Probably cost more time and sure made it more frustrating not following my directions. Like woodworking where you measure twice and cut once kind of thing. I plan on tidying up some wires and doing some testing this morning to make sure the sine wave looks good then listen with it on my horns to see how it sounds for a few days. Put a few hours on it just to make sure it will not have any problems for a few years, hopefully a decade or more. I would like to put 6 or 8 hours on it just to be sure and I usually only listen to music a couple of hours if that a day. I am thinking the first of next week before I am ready to ship it to Area51. That is if he still wants it. This is if no problems show their ugly head.

  35. Never heard something from Mr. Larry Fast´s SYNERGY ...quiet experimental electronic arrangements ... Still listening to " AUDION " .....like it 👍Goes into the direction of Tangerin Dream, Ashra Temple etc. Collected some info about Larry Fast .. Larry Fast (born December 10, 1951 in Newark, USA) is an American musician and composer, electronic music style, best known as Peter Gabriel's keyboardist. A synthesizer expert, he grew up in Livingston, New Jersey and graduated from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania with a degree in history. His interest in electronic music stems from a fusion of his piano and violin playing with his interest in computer science. After a brief guest appearance with the group Nektar, Fast started his solo career: under the pseudonym Synergy, Larry Fast composed and arranged various albums on his own label Passport Records between 1975 and 1987. In the same period he worked with Peter Gabriel and played synthesizer on his concerts and studio recordings. Will listen to the others as well ...

  36. The devil is in the details: "properly designed and executed tone control circuit does not degrade the signal quality ...." That's the challenge. Engineers would spend a lot of time arguing first over, "just what should a useful tone control DO?" Is 20dB boost at 30 Hz, necessary? Is 3dB cut at 1kHz enough? What's the value of 10dB cut at 20kHz? Maybe a 10-band parametric EQ should be embedded into a preamp? In fact, is "tone control" a different entity from "equalization?" The number and quality of parts involved surely is an issue for cost and SQ. Scratchy pots, cheap capacitors, additional stages, certainly are parts of the decision. Extra stages absolutely 100% WILL alter the SQ. I doubt any audio engineer would argue against that. The system also presents issues. If bookshelf speakers are in use, isn't SOME bass-boost useful? In certain glassy rooms, or if using some peaky phono cartridges, isn't some treble cut useful? Also, no two producers agree on how to EQ and master recordings, so there is no consistency there to rely upon. The last statement about the reasons TC were eliminated is a dubious opinion. A more likely reason is that engineers could not imagine a TC system that would be meaningful for "most" of their buyers. If you look at the older circuits, from say a PAS 3, I doubt many contemporary users would find it useful as all the cuts and boosts are centered at 1kHz. Possibly useful in 1968, but today? I think a good reason to leave them off might be that parametric equalizers are a better answer for people who like to fiddle the tone. Just guessing about what tone adjustments would be useful sounds like a deadly waste of time.

  37. No argument with that, except possibly for the file size, because storage has become so cheap. I was on the MPEG1 Audio committee in the early 1990s, and had a hand in its development. At the time, storage was limited and bandwidth was expensive. We never foresaw an age when teraBytes and gigabits per second would be available for anything less than a king's ransom, let alone at Best Buy. How times change. BTW, I was once involved in a blind listening test with MPEG Audio Layer 1 at 384 kbps and Layer 2 at 256 kbps. A track with which I was very familiar was played, sometimes original CD, sometimes MP1, sometimes MP2. My job was to determine whether the particular version being played was CD or not CD. In eleven trials, I was correct eleven times. MP3 uses better compression than MP1 or MP2, and encoding techniques have improved in the last thirty years, so I probably could not duplicate the feat. Still, it was a gratifying experience for me.

  43. Same issue here, so I immediately contacted Klipsch support, here’s their response: We are aware of an issue with the most recent firmware update. Our software team is working diligently to release a new version to resolve this bug, but in the meantime, you have these options: - Turn off the "Auto-Standby" feature on the Fives, and leave them on all the time. The Fives should not pull much power from the outlet when not in use. You can adjust this setting by opening the settings tab in the Klipsch Connect app. - Do not use the Klipsch Connect app in conjunction with the Fives until the bug is resolved. Obviously, the first option is preferred, but some you may not be comfortable leaving the speakers on all the time.

  44. Yea, It’s amazing how we all perceive sound differently ,and how our preferences to sound quality can evolve over time. For example when I was younger, I kinda liked an exaggerated top end, it seemed to add detail to the music, now I prefer a more balanced sound. Another example would be what happened the other day when I ran into the ex old lady,(just couldn’t shake her) I immediately noticed that her once angelic voice, now projects a shouty , strident ,just plain annoying quality, funny how I didn’t notice this years ago.🤷I’m sure others would disagree with my assessment , and many would even love the sound of her voice😳 ,but I’ve moved on , just not my style anymore 🤓
