  10. Howdy. Shawn in Pearl, MS. Brand spanking newbie.....so happy to have found this forum people.......just wish I had landed on the site many years ago. Owner of a much loved pair of "R" era Heresy's that I picked up at a garage sale waaaaaayyyyyy back in 1996 I think....$60 dollars for the pair, beat up a bit and the K22s were shredded by kids or a cat, but otherwise original and funtional. I will never forget hearing them for the first time.....The Police, Zenyatta Mondatta album, vinyl, through a Pioneer solid state amp circa 1980s I think. Even in their semi-delapidated state, I had never heard such clear and accurate frequency representation and separation. Of all the audio gear that has come and gone in my life since, I have kept the Heresy's. Wanted to say Hello and share my probably pretty typical story with you folks........more to come from me as I am now in the process of restoring them and will want and need advice from experts on this forum. Thanks.

He's been way more than a jerk to me the past year but heck I never dropped him when they brought him home. 16. The top of those kinds of fruit desserts is usually some kind of sugar and butter mix that melts down into the fruit. That's the way my mothers Apple Crisp is done. Recently some started using oats instead, yours looks like the original recipe.

  17. Ja that should fit together some white cream over the plum cake also. Thanx for your appreciated compliment about cooking , my grand mother teached me a lot in my childhood, that´s why I allways kept an interest in cooking and baking whole of my life.

  18. Dang @MicroMara ! You can cook! Plums are so sweet especially the more dark they are. I'd say that would be perfect with the late am coffee I'm drinking now.

  21. I've had a number of Chorus II crossovers rebuilt by Crites over the years even bought the drop in replacements. I noticed a difference in sound each time, they got brighter and clearer sounding, was under the impression this was because the old caps were failing and rolling off the high end so I just wasn't used to hearing them as they were supposed to sound. I would be curious to try the JEM caps if I ever have another set rebuilt-- it would be really nice to get that extra clarity without the added brightness.

  25. Hard to believe there is no dealer close to you in South Jersey or a pair of any used Heritage horn loaded speakers one could demo. It would be very tough to ante up for a pair of LaScala AL5 without a demo, but then again their finer points will be hard to assess in a short demo. I demoed a pair of LaScala AL5 a few weeks ago and was very impressed, they did not sound anything like the LaScalas I bought new in 1981 and played for 35 years.

  32. Don't use eBay for price benchmarking as it is not realistic. You found a one off auction on the HIPs' as they typically sell in the $500 - $750 range dependent on overall condition and completeness. I just sold two pair that I had $700 for the older ones with no trim and $650 for the battle dressed version. Perhaps lowering your expectations some will help get them sold.

  34. I recall a test in Stereophile or The Absolute Sound that reviewed a $350k pair of monoblocks probably 20 years ago. They were crazy heavy like these ones. The conclusion was that, although the distortion figures were shockingly high, they sounded so good that they just had to give them an ‘A’ rating. I guess it was very euphonious distortion...

  35. Most of your questions have been answered, just not to your satisfaction. I don't remember it that way. What most people used to do was complain about how the midrange was too bright. Enter the ALK Universal. This allowed people to dial it down without having to deal with changing parts. Al used the nice caps because people wanted them, but he always thought it was extravagant waste. Others just knocked 3dB off of the midrange by dropping down a tap and changing the capacitor value. Not everyone liked that forward midrange. Now, when you knock it back, you've created some space you can move around in and using a very low ESR capacitor isn't that big of a deal -- though all of this does change what Klipsch intended. After I bought my Klipschorns and started modding them, I built a lot of different networks with a lot of different parts. I didn't like the GE cans and I definitely didn't like the Sonicaps when I tried them. Even after adjusting for the brightness, I found the sound thin and two dimensional. At some point I tried Jensen paper in oils, and stayed there, well, I think until I sold them. I did a lot of Jensen builds back then. Most people can't afford to try a lot of different networks. They pick one and tend to stick with it, and most aren't nearly as critical as someone like me. People will generally prefer ANYTHING new to the sound of a 40 year old failing network.

  36. Fried the chicken thighs, that didn't go into the sauce, this AM. Made gravy with the drippings.... so.... for breakfast I had fried chicken, gravy on homemade bread and a handful of locally grown tomatoes... and a half pot of coffee using chicken in spaghetti sauce really extends the chicken. It makes 8 servings with spaghetti. The same amt of chicken, fried, will feed 2

  37. Finally got everything hooked up and ready to go, have not messed with the built in EQ just loudness button. This DAC / Pre is pretty damn amazing-- easily replaces my TG-IV and Topping DAC for 2-channel stereo sounds excellent (without even being properly dialed in yet) and has all the features I need. I've got a new playlist I'm going fire up here a bit later and really give her a good listening to. The seller I bought this from on eBay shipped it out immediately 2-day shipping and it was well packaged. I see now he's offering them for the same price but with a free set of headphones: https://www.ebay.com/itm/165546882409?hash=item268b5cf569:g:hxoAAOSwJj5itdoF His listings are make offer as well I offered $950 and he accepted, great deal IMO for an excellent unit. Maybe later this weekend I'll pull out my Mic and take some measurements to see where I'm at. My speakers run a bit hot, hoping with the DSP I can flatten them out a bit without the loudness button engaged. I'm still undecided if I'm going to use a tube preamp in front of this or not, going to get used to this DAC and all settings before I do anything else, preliminary thoughts are I won't need one but we'll see. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  41. Christopher Cross? Cross released his self-titled debut album, Christopher Cross, on Dec. 27, 1979.[10] Billboard Hot 100 top 20 hits from this album included "Ride Like the Wind" (featuring backing vocals by Michael McDonald), "Sailing", "Never Be the Same", and "Say You'll Be Mine" (featuring backing vocals by Nicolette Larson). "Ride Like the Wind" hit number two on the U.S. Hot 100, while "Sailing" topped the chart for one week.[2] "Never Be The Same" went number one on the Adult Contemporary chart. Cross, the album and the song "Sailing" were nominated for six Grammy Awards in 1981, and won five.[11] Cross was the first artist in Grammy history to win all four general field awards in a single ceremony, bringing home Record of the Year ("Sailing"), Album of the Year (Christopher Cross), Song of the Year ("Sailing"), and Best New Artist at the 23rd Annual Grammy Awards.[a] This feat was not replicated for 39 years, until Billie Eilish won all four awards at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2020.[12][13] In addition, "Sailing" won for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). Christopher Cross has been certified platinum five times in the U.S., selling over 5 million copies.[14] Later in 1981, Cross released "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)", co-written by Burt Bacharach, which was the main theme for the 1981 film Arthur. The song won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1981,[15] and was nominated for, but did not win three Grammys.[16][b] In the U.S., it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and on the Hot Adult Contemporary charts in October 1981, remaining at the top of the Hot 100 for three weeks; it also was a top-ten hit in several other countries. The song became the second and last American number-one hit by Christopher Cross

  43. I have suspected this for a long time, especially with certain Chinese type tubes. For example, New Sensor Corporation who makes tubes (New Sensor uses a Russian factory) under the following brands: EH (Electro-Harmonix), Tung-Sol, Sovtek, Mullard, Gold Lion, etc cross markets all these tubes such as 5881, 6L6GB/GC. I suspect they are the same tube with different price points. same comment for EL34's. I have some EH300B's and they are nice, but the exact same tube sold under Gold Lion are twice the price. If you do your homework, you can get great tubes, but at a lower cost. Just have to poke around and ask questions.
