  1. My first Rolling Stones album ever @oldtimer would be proud of me!

  2. My B-system, in the den upstairs, is the Harman/Kardon 430 twin powered, playing vinyl with a vintage Onkyo turntable. Currently driving Onkyo speakers, but usually Klipsch RP160Ms. What I like about this combo is the 'electricity' that is in the air as soon as the needle hits the groove. This is so nostalgic... until the music starts playing, you hear the crackle and the static elektricity, but when the music starts, it all goes away and I enjoy the music. Love it!

  3. About the video. 1. He incorrectly claims "there is no direct connection from power plant to your home." What he means is "no direct physical connection." But, there most certainly is a direct electrical connection. The coils in a transformer need not "touch" to create continuous flow of current. The current flow from power source to sink IS continuous. 2. In various words he implies that power is not "in the cable." But of course it IS in the cable because HT lines can exceed 150C in temperature. And, for any fixed distance and load, the lower the line voltage, the more power loss is suffered. Hence the reason long distance lines are at 400KV - 745KV - to minimize losses in the cable. Magnetism and current arise together the same way "heads and tails" appears on a coin. If this were not so, one could use ANY tiny gauge of wire to conduct any amount of current desired. We know that isn't true, right?

  6. My friend and Klipsch fanatic, Roger Gordon, sent these Pro La Scala's to convert to home speakers. Sadly, he passed away before they were completed. I have finished them and will be sending them to his wife and daughter. I hope they feel a bit of his presence when listening to them and appreciate their beauty, as I know Roger would.

  7. Nothing on the Wiki. She does sample here an there. I saw some forums where guys rant about it, I don't give it much credit though. Plagiarism is taken very seriously in Japanese industry.

  12. Weird fact…..when I knew I was to do some serious listening to speakers, I avoided loud noises. I didn’t listen to the radio to work. Kept the windows closed in my car and got up before I wife would bark out orders on what I needed to do. I wanted my ears fresh. Does anyone else do that? Or is it just a weird chief bonehead thing?

  18. Considering the 10+ inches of rain and 65 to 75 mph winds, we did pretty well at my house and did not lose power. Well the power company turned it off around 2 am and turned it back on around 8:30 am. Parts of the Central Florida have severe flooding and will take days/weeks to recover from that. Bill

  19. Well not exactly since our point is that cable lifters are wealth transfer devices and not true audio improvement devices. If you like them and enjoy using them do so. Just don't expect many others to think they work.

  20. The removable rear panels on earlier cornwalls and Crites cornscalas were a weak point in the design. These speakers tend to have a somewhat boxy sound and loud midbass notes can even make the cabinets resonate. It's one of those things you just have to live with, but once you hear it, you can't unhear it.

  21. yep, the front ports make using gasket tape on the back panel an unnecessary exercise.

  35. Just.....wow. Dean's building crossovers for Klipsch and now you are back on the forum. Another 20 year guy here still chugging along: Still have the Peach (which I use as a backup a couple months out of the year to keep it working well/operational which in itself is a testament to it's sound) and now with the four sets of 50+ year old Heritage now completely restored (also known as "how I spent my pandemic......") 🙂 I've also taken that "no processed/no fried" to heart here too, my wife and I have lost a collective 100 lbs and carry proper weight for our frames (myself personally for the first time in my life, the changes happening over the last five years). I'm also not too far off from the "one meal a day" thing - I find one good meal and a couple of snacks/items keep me plenty lean and more energetic. I still remember those discussions about how you used to feed your dog and how you thought people should be eating and I internalized a lot of the essence of that discussion. I have had a TON of surgery on my orthopedics and keeping good weight and condition with age is really important. It has massively improved/extended our quality of work and life. So you still have some "ruboff effect" here as I'm still benefiting from your builds and advices. It's hella good to see you in here, sorta feels like Reservoir Dogs 'round here lately, getting the gang back together to do more "crimes of the systems", LOL. ....and seems a bit fitting as the recent pandemic era served to allow to rejuvenate the two systems that I have had here all along. So no real Juicy Questions as I've not had issue and really like that piece for what it is, but it's sure good to see you back here.

  41. Yep and it looked like a giant EF-5 went through. Sucked clean with a few twisted, shredded toothpicks left. Awesome Power. And I did not overuse that awe word back in the 80s either! Ian is moving so slow. This is going to be heartbreaking to see all those places I traversed frequently over that decade being unrecognizable in a few days.

  43. The Cheif BUTThead is the kind of dude you call when you need a friend. He is mine and I call on him from time to time. I have learned more from Roy than most anyone else in audio. We started our friendship in a car listening to audio systems as judges. I talked a lot, he listened....a bit later he hired me to work in the lab. That was 23y ago. I miss working with him, but am glad he is no longer my boss. The butthead.

  45. Whelp, I couldn’t resist a pair of Eminence Delta Pro 12A’s on Ebay for $200, shipped, so it looks like @ClaudeJ1 ‘s Baby Cornwalls are on the table, proper. Will still put them back together with all the stock components, just to establish a baseline, then do the mods

  46. :emotion-21: My 2 cents would be to tame the sidewalls from resonating. (I sometimes wonder if that is what people are hearing and attribute it to the midhorn??) Those are some big panels on the sides of the speaker. If you can brace them you will think that you've found another octave of bass when in fact what you are then hearing is already there....just masked by the noise of their vibration. Again on the LSI-BG models, things are different - you have fibreglass matting and gel which adds some stiffness and mass, but most importantly there is that angular aluminum edge that is glued and screwed. I think this adds quite a bit of strength to the mouth of that horn. Not so on the home models - just thump on it and hear that 2x2' panel vibrate.
