The day has come to see this post of mine come to fruition. After years of keeping my eyes on the internet, the right Khorn deal for me, came along. My left and right LaScalas have been replaced with a pair of '75 Khorns in nice but not perfect condition. I will repeat much of what's been said. I use them crossed over to a pair of subs and even so, notice many changes from the LaScalas. I'm currently running the K's with a crossover down at 30hz. My overall sound seems improved in the mid bass area, which you would expect. The room feels more "loaded" with sound. Not just in low frequencies, but across the range. Specific instruments and detail are improved. I enjoy them more at lower volumes. Clarity is improved. Imaging is improved. The sound-field has more depth. I got up twice the first day to make sure my surrounds were not on. I also had to make sure my sub wasn't on. My expectations were low, as we love the LaScalas so much. With the same drivers, I assumed bass would be the only improvement. In the first minute of listening I knew I had made a good decision and most importantly, my wife smiled right away. It was a worthy change.

The internet is more like a living/breathing public library (I still like libraries).

Von Karajan directing the Brandenburg Concertos... must be like Pink Floyd covering Pete Seeger. Oh! They did that, with The Wall! On a serious note, I love Bach and I love Von Karajan! What makes this particular recording special, in your opinion?

I would consider a humming and vibrating power transformer defective. Plates are loose or something inside. Sounds like your satisfied. Good question! The short and simple answer is this is the recording I grew up on/with, was the required reference to how we would perform the Brandenburg's and was to be our Hear all, Dream all, Feel all, ..etc assignment. At least it was Bach to listened to thousands of times, over n over again. Very Strict Conductor!

Not sure if I'm listening to the same 1965 recording as your album, but it surely sounds really good. Von Karajan was at the top of his game in 1965, I think!

I will be keeping you in my thoughts @Dave1291 , knowing the neuropathy and care for the feet. You are the 2nd person I know of that has had to warm their feet after the cold set in, and I Pray you will fare Much better than the other case. Enjoy the you tubes and do everything it takes to get those feet to heal!

Those new to the forum are no doubt unaware that I returned to my roots some time ago and now listen exclusively in mono. Constantly fussing with channel balance (due to recording issues, room acoustics, and asymmetric frequency response of my ears), and being locked into a “sweet spot” became a chore. So, having forgotten how it would be, I decided to give mono a try and could not believe how glorious it is! No sweet spot and, with a speaker in the corner, amazing dispersion into the room. I use a single RB-51 series 2 since my den is on the small side. I recommend that anyone who is frustrated by the difficulty of attaining perfect stereo give this a try. Using a tiny mono tube amp to drive the speaker has really taken me back to the late 50s/early 60s. OW! That's no fun at all. Good call to use the pillow to put out the fire. Putting water on an oil fire is one of the worst things you can do, as it splatters burning oil in all directions, and can even cause an explosion. There are fire safety videos on YouTube that show this. Putting the lid back on the pan would have worked, too, as long as the fire snuffed out before the glass overheated and cracked. In the same way, if the fire is in a pot or pan, put the lid on right away, and leave it on until things cool, or for a few minutes at least, so that you don't get it flaring up a second time, because the pot/pan is still hot enough for ignition, and is just waiting for some oxygen. You can get fire blankets for the kitchen. They come in a quick-release holder that you attach to the wall, and in the event of a fire, you can pull it out quickly and cover the fire with the fire-resistant and air-blocking blanket. In some cases, it could even be safer than using an extinguisher. I hope your burns aren't too serious and heal quickly. I recommend using Vitamin E cream or oil on the affected areas, because it will help to speed the healing and reduce any scarring. Just put it on once or twice a day, until the skin is fully healed. It works on surgery scars too, reducing the redness, in some cases leaving the scar skin-coloured instead of red, so it's barely noticeable. Fire blankets are really inexpensive, don't expire, and can be reused. Just like a fire extinguisher, it can be a good idea to keep it at some distance from the stove, like across the room. Two systems in the house. The main system has a sweet spot established, room treatments etc. I enjoy listening in stereo in that room very much. No need to compensate for anything. Imaging and soundstage is rewarding. Second system is in an unfinished basement. Concrete walls, exposed ductwork etc. Speakers are plopped down in the middle.....not in corners or next to a wall. This system, unlike the main system is high powered and gets played loud 100% of the time. I've found that in this system, two speakers played in mono play more cohesive. Everything is more solid and honestly, gives me the urge to keep turning up the volume because it just jives so much better than stereo in this situation.

I’m an optimist, with just a little effort, their is hardly anything that can’t be learned via the internet, or at least get a general understanding of the topic . I’ve been able to expand my knowledge in so many ways through the years ,it’s unbelievable .And that’s just one important benefit, I remember before the internet ,just how difficult it could be to find important items that I needed ,it was hard for the buyer to meet up with the seller , (old car parts is a good example) the parts existed but where are they , and who’s selling ? Availability for everything has expanded tremendously . Now days I can get absolutely anything I need no matter how obscure or rare the item may be , or maybe through the internet I will discover a new and improved product that I was completely unaware of , it’s amazing.The market place has grown to worldwide access, for example I can buy a old Klipsch speaker part from anywhere in the country or world , cause those part are out there, and I have a powerful tool at my disposal to find those parts . These benefits also apply to the thousands of businesses that now have access to an infinitely expanded market. Need an out of state weather report, a trip to Vegas , flowers for the little lady , fill out a job application, order dinner, pay a bill , get an Uber ride ,most use the internet .My wife is a bit old fashioned though , always physically shopping around for difficult to find items , I help her out , I get on the iPhone ,order , next day its in her hand , she seems so surprised. As with all technology , unintended consequences abound , I think the internet is here to stay.

I’m with you , I prefer multi channel music, always had a bit of a weak center image with the Khorns so far apart, Lascala center fixed that , to me multi is far superior . BTW I’ve been watching lots of old classic movies , lots of good stuff out there for theater .I used to reject the idea of a multi channel stereo presentation, I think it was the purist in me saying no , but I’ve seen the light and never going back, give me a room full of sound.🤓

A good preamp could easily wake up those mono-blocks. I've had a couple really high end Denon AVR's years back and they did sound really good to me, could have easily been "good enough" at the time but I was still in the discovery phase and trying out lots of gear. I find with movies or TV I do not need fancy set ups, just the right hook ups, features and adequate power but for music I'm a bit more picky.
