  8. Howzit? Wife is off for a week... fall break. She is doing things .... it will take a few days to figure out what all she did. She starts rearranging things and then complains when she can't find things. when I can't find something, I ask... her response is usually "Where it is supposed to be".... "And where is that now?" Weather has been cool and moist [for here]. It can be cool as it wants, now. Nobody in town cutting wood, so wife asked around. One of her student's dads got some for us. Cheaper than I could get it for myself... $100/cord.... delivered. 1st of 2 dropped today My hands have been busy. Trimming. If you don't have any to do .... you complain - loudly ... and if you have any to do - you complain. Listening to Alan Parsons "Tales...". a new remastered version on spot... I have the first version on vinyl... Some of the changes are good and some, I didn't care for. Anyone see the ad for the new GrandWagoneer? Bose has some competition in factory auto sound systems.... Macintosh has entered the field

  12. There are different horns with slightly different goals. The k403 needs a little less eq but with the jubilee having a dsp that is a moot point. I like em both. K402 is now on Klipsch state of the art Jubilee is all that needs to be said.

  13. I might have figured it out. After chasing my tail for two days (good thing I'm not paying by the hour for this fix!) The errors I was getting seemed to indicate the "sending" drive (I also have an external which is what I was using) was the issue.... got to thinking about changing ports and I've changed my thumbs into ALL different ports.....but never the sending drive. The outboard drive is connected to the back of my monitor which then, is connected to the back of the laptop. Changed it to the front port on the PC and gave it a try. Instead of the speed petering out, it slowed down.....then inhaled and jumped back up again. It did NOT do this before so I'm hopeful this was my issue. Went to reformat one of my thumbs to FAT32 and that's where it is now. Stupid me didn't put the quick format switch on so it's taking forever.

  17. Someone mentioned WiFi coverage problems... I use a second wifi router (much better quality router) connected to my ISPs router/data modem, but also use Ethernet extender over electrical wiring. All A/V gear is on the Ethernet extender line and it works well. I was sceptical but happy with the product... Netgeat 1.2 Gbps extender. The biggest load by far is streaming to the TV and it works very well.

  21. Making a road trip. Looking to copy some tunes onto my thumb drive so I can put into car. I have a large drive, had to reformat it to FAT32 to make it work. Worked fine. Pulled it out to add some tunes to it and everything has 'hit the fan'. As backup, I pulled thumb out of car, went to update Ipod.....and the REST of the stuff, hit the fan. So, long story short, I want to copy roughly 93 gigs onto thumb. I'm getting an error. 0x800701B1. Prior to getting this error, the "copy box" shows with the line that rises/falls as the data moves but what I notice is the line (transfer rate I think) starts high....goes down.....then down.....then down to zero, every time. I know before it would go both up and down. Thinking I had corrupted the thumb, had the wife buy me a preformatted (FAT32 so the car evidently reads it) smaller one today. I get the same issue. I'd really like to get this figured out so I don't have dead silence or weak radio stations as I hit the road. Anyone know about this?

  25. Practice is a good idea. A very good idea. Get some wire and figure out a repeatable way to hold it in position, and get soldering! If you spend even 15-30 minutes practicing, your soldering will be better, and you’ll have a bigger smile on your face when you’re sitting on your listening chair enjoying your music. Of course, you need to have enough solder that you’re not needing to use the last teeny bit on the spool. Keep going until you’re close to satisfied with your results. There is no perfection in anything in this world, but really good is close enough. There’s a certain satisfaction with gaining or improving a skill. Also, it lets you feel like you earned the experience you have later, when you power up your system and it does what it’s supposed to do. When your skill becomes a craft, one of many you’ve learned and refined, you’re on your journey to become a journeyman. Okay, that takes a basic soldering skill all the way over the top of the hill and way down the far side, but mastering relatively simple skills can be fun. Get to it!

  26. I've had 2 sets twice but needing the storage space and money after acquiring K402s, had to sell them. DJK os the reason I tried them, I preferred them over the big 9040s. As Seti mentioned the 402 has been hard to beat, but for the price horns like 640 and 403 would be hard to beat unless you can get your hands on 402s and have space, then there is no question to ask, as its always the 402.

  28. @babadono Here you can see how I’m using the Studio Traps at First Reflection points and they give me the ability to choose between absorption or diffusion as well as the ability to disperse/redirect the reflections. This is a powerful feature that allows me to easily experiment and adjust the room acoustics for the sense of liveness I find desirable and engaging. Note: due to the loudspeakers placements and the fact they are horns with controlled directivity I am able to choose a much more HF reflective return into the room versus the standard direction that you usually see ASC recommend which is often depicted with wide dispersion direct radiator systems. I have also removed (seen stacked on the floor) some of the flat wall panel Sound Planks to adjust the overall HF absorption for a better balance of the liveness sensation. miketn

  29. That's not accurate. Roy showed Paul the curves of the bass bins (he had to get the frequency up remember?). PWK said, "show me the bass bin." He showed PWK the bass bin, PWK said "how soon can we go into production." Roy drafted them. They wrote an AES article about them together. Roy knows the whole story, in every detail about the two pairs, the crossovers, etc. That may be what Klem told W.C., but not too sure Klem really knows anything about them. Travis

  30. I wouldn’t consider myself as a purist especially considering the almost total lack of standardized practices in recording and playback as evident in the real world we live and listen in. In my experience reverb is experienced much differently than what I consider liveness and room spaciousness that can happen in a room designed for good 2ch reproduction. Some 2ch to Multi-Channel Playback conversion effects programs might bring some liveness and spaciousness simulation back to acoustically dead listening rooms and this is why multi-channel home theater rooms are often found to be treated with much more absorption because the liveness/spaciousness are in the surround channels programming. Not based on my experiences. The strength and timing of the first reflection points and the channel’s they are associated with are factors to be considered along with the polar response of the loudspeakers and what works best could be better left untreated, redirected, or diffused instead of absorbed in some situations. I mentioned the Polar Response of the loudspeaker as a variable because when you so often see Room Treatments as suggested by many companies they are most often using wide-dispersion loudspeakers and that often wouldn’t be the appropriate treatment methods for dipole loudspeakers or controlled directivity horn loudspeakers in my experiences. miketn

  31. Files limited to 4gb or smaller, but supports up to 16tb partitions. Windows limits fat32 to 2tb partitions artificially, but is supported from xp to win10 at that size. Maybe try a different usb port @Coytee? If you're going through a hub, try connecting directly to the pc. Try a different computer all together.

  33. I wouldn't say better as it is hard to beat the k402. Think of the K403 as a k402 with collapsing verticals. The reason I love the horn is it sounds great and has Roy and PWK's hand in the design. Pretty cool. When you hear the new Jubilee it is undoubtedly the state of the art in sound. I've never heard anything better.

  36. That isn't exactly what happened 8-) Klementovich was gifted the Golden Jubilee's by Valerie. They had K403's. There were two pairs made she had the other pair. Klementovich didn't like the "plastic" K403's so he replaced with martinellis. He also didn't like the crossover so he moved it to 750hz which was an odd thing to do. Klementovich sent the K403's to Maron Horonzack. I had happened to contact Maron to talk horns when I had mentioned how much I would love a pair of K403's. Maron said "How bad do you want them?" I was joking and said something like $500 and he said $550 and I'll ship them to you..... Next thing I know I have a pair of unobtanium K403's and I have been listening to them ever since. They are amazing as they are the combinitation of wills and compromises of PWK and Roy. It has Roy's flair and PWK's collapsing verticals. They are my favorite audio item.
