Wellll, it's been some up and down the past couple days... I'm up too much flippin and spinnin. Sliding around some in my chair putting things away. Found this one last evening totally out of place and it brought back a few memories. Soft Machine are an English rock band from Canterbury formed in mid-1966. Though they achieved little commercial success, the Soft Machine are considered by critics to have been influential in rock music.[4][5][6] Dave Lynch at AllMusic called them "one of the more influential bands of their era, and certainly one of the most influential underground ones"Sharing the same management as Jimi Hendrix, the band supported The Jimi Hendrix Experience's North America tour throughout 1968.[8] Soft Machine's first album was recorded in New York City in April at the end of the first leg of the tour.6 points

I stopped by Blue Hawk Audio last week since I had to run up to Bismarck .Thanks to @Schufor posting the video . The gentleman speaking in the video was very gracious . He allowed me to demo the Jubilee's and enjoyed showing them to someone who was familiar with them. I could try to describe the experience but I'm not sure what to say except they made me smile from ear to ear ! The McIntosh gear being used was pretty nice as well. I worked in North Dakota from Bismarck to almost Fargo for several years, life is very different there. Blue Hawk carries Very Expensive Equipment and trust me , there are some very wealthy farmers. Back a little while there was quite a bit of oil money as well. The winters are harsh so Indoor activities are popular. You do not want to play pool or darts against anyone from North Dakota. The mall is a good place for them to operate. People have to travel quite a ways to get anything. I think the next closest Mall or McDonalds for that matter is about 40 miles away. This particular mall houses a very popular sporting goods store and brings in a lot of people.5 points

“Mac” Rebennack (pka Dr. John) was planning future projects when his life was suddenly cut short in 2019. Now, three years after his untimely passing, a new studio album, Things Happen That Way, has finally been released. The album, that arrived Sept. 23, 2022, on Rounder, features three new original new compositions, a reworking of his own 1968 classic, “I Walk on Guilded Splinters, plus new interpretations of songs by Willie Nelson, Cowboy Jack Clement, Hank Williams, and the Traveling Wilburys. I only have one thing to say about this album. Ahhhmazing! Sure, I got it outta respect for him and I'm so glad I did. It's ALL him and it ALL flows and will be over before you know it. Amazing production, it's clean as a whistle and so tight I was left shaking my head after BOTH sides. His last studio lp and I just bought a 2nd copy to put away. KILLER! I know ya wanna open that extra window to check me out. Have at it & you'll order it! hahaha Chicken??? 😂4 points

Many of these conversations confuse asking price (which we all see) with actual price sold (which we do not see). Asking price and selling price can be very different things. Something to consider ....4 points

Could not resist this Have been trying to buy a new center and it is pretty hard to find specs on the Klipsch website It is very annoying having to go through page and page and page of how wonderful these Klipsch items are (yes; "bigger horns, Linear Travel tweeter, Vented tweeter, CeraMetallic woofers, Tractrix, New Look, etc. etc.") After scrolling down all these pages, you can finally find a pdf on the actual specs (if you are lucky) It does NOT matter what you are looking for; you get bombarded with marketing BS. So; to find specs on Klipsch speakers I go to crutchfield.com . Constructive criticism: just think Klipsch should tone done this stuff, or at least give a link to the specs "at the top." Cheers, Emile3 points

Or, at the very least, put on life support by the ignorant masses with more money than audio knowledge, which is 90%!3 points

As I mentioned earlier in this thread no way will I pay the $5500 that the seller is asking for the Khorns. With a great collection of speakers already, including pairs of ‘77 LS’s and Corns, I’m set. But if he’s willing to do some trading(willing to let my Corns and a nice McIntosh MC2120 amp go) plus a little cash then we can probably get something done. Unloading idle gear by trading for other gear I’m interested in is always appealing.3 points

I totally agree in your point of view . If the gear and set up works are done , this might can take years till finished, than it´s all about music only. Everybody having achieved this level can be a lucky guy .3 points

Trying to describe how a speaker sounds in words has been a challenge for audio reviewers since Day One. I don't claim to solve that, but after extended listening sessions to a friend's set of Khorns with many discs, I've come up with an analogy. Speaker rhetoric often borrows from photography-"transparency, clarity, imaging" etc. The analogy that came to me is "resolution". I have a Canon 9600 Mk II scanner that has a resolution of 9600 dpi optical. When I first bought it, I experimented with scanning 35 mm film and slides at higher and higher res. I found that 4800 dpi was the highest I could scan a well-preserved 35 mm negative or slide , and anything above that started resolving the grain of the film. My cross-walk to Klipschorn performance is that they can let me hear into the grain of the music in a way no other speaker can. On a well-recorded organ disc, I can hear the organ "breathing" which may or may not a be a good thing, but again, a unique opportunity. Of course, the organ is the most powerful single instrument, and only a powerful audio system can begin to do it justice. This ties in with PWK's assertion that speakers with low FM distortion allow the "inner voices" of the music to be heard. I tell non-Klipsch (or those not having had the privilege of the Khorn experience yet) friends that until they hear Khorns, they can't fully appreciate the inevitable gap between music live and recorded music. I had the pleasure of hearing the same organ in person at the Naval Academy chapel and on disc via Klipschorns. Reproduced, It can't be the same experience but it's still the best available.2 points

You're welcome. The funky stuff i like is varied but early 70s like that or motown is IT. Then Mick Jagger's solo covers are cool to me too!2 points

I've not listened to this guy in a long time. the DJ brought it up at the vinyl thread, and that was a nice play earlier. Now Halloween is coming but it's not shrub to shrub kids, busted jack-o-lanterns and noisy teens until 3am anymore. Might still be candy wrappers for weeks though. Spooky-spicy-funky2 points

I think you're shouting at the clouds. I see nothing wrong with the web site. Spec download sheets are easy to find. It's understandable they would want to promote their product first. As long as the other info is there, and easy to find, I'm satisfied. Navigating ANY web site involves a little self-education, much like learning a new language. Sure; it would be ideal if ALL web sites conformed to some layout standard, but that's not a realistic expectation. Once you've learned where to look, it should not be a problem.2 points

I think the older models of Klipschorn and Lascala are still one of the best values in home audio . And if your lucky enough to find a pair in excellent original condition , jackpot .These old models , in the right room will immediately impress you with their unparalleled scale and authority, they let you know that the big boys are playing the room , and with good music ,you become immediately aware that something special is going on , and it is . Don’t get me wrong the newest versions are awesome , but the biggest old heritage speakers still sound fantastic . The new models benefit from various refinements, but the old classic stuff is perfectly acceptable for those of us who preferred Maryann over the more sophisticated and refined Ginger .🤓2 points

The website used to be a lot better in that regard. It was also easy to find discontinued items and their specs as well. Another thing they did was say which speaker went with which as far as matching centers and surrounds.2 points

Sometimes you ask questions that aren't necessary or try to solve problems you don't have. I hooked up my Macbook to the stereo using the headphone jack and played some of these links. Quality is not a concern. There may be a difference on paper, but it would be splitting hairs in real life. Looking forward to using this thread to expand my musical pallet.2 points

I don’t think many people can hear much difference. I’ve noticed audible differences in interconnects, but was only a dimes worth of difference in cost. I mostly use second hand monster cable. If I find an incredible deal on something else I might try and hear a difference. Til then…. Meh.1 point

Depends on length and speaker impedance. 10-12 gauge for subs, 14-16 gauge for all the rest, with polarity marks on the insulation. Mostly, whatever is on sale at Parts Express and the cheapest.1 point

When I was in PWK's office in Hope, Aug. 1985, I noticed a Black and White photo of he and Rudy Bozak wielding axes and pretending to chop each other, since they were competitors and met at a particular HiFi store at the time. After he told me the story, I told him I had heard Bozak Concert Grands at my Local Stereoland in my mid-teens, and was impressed by the sound (Even thought I owned Khorns about 6 years later). His response: "I never measured them, but I'm sure they had pretty low distortion based on the multiple drivers Rudy used in the speaker." So in less than 1/2 dozen posts, none of them addressed the OP, and we are totally off topic. This has to be a new record!!!! I wonder what Gauge wire Rudy Bozak recommended for his Concert Grands?1 point

Well thank you, I'm not complaning, and I would NOT want to get paid to do this I just joke about that, if we did get paid then I would have to actually do it, better anyway.1 point

I had no idea it was rated well. Also on the list of things I have no idea about is the Blue Plate we use, it is called heavy duty and does not need to be refrierated after opening. I have no idea why it is heavy duty or the refrigerated part. I do know one thing NEVER leave a real Silver spoon by accident in a mayo jar. It will be green in a couple days, chemical reaction or magic who knows ? .1 point
