dragged my tomato plant in. It's gonna be fresh in the AM. Not a hard freeze, but, to tomatoes, 50` is cold. We're hearing predictions/guesses ranging from 26` - 34`. I think Tucson had a record low high temp today... 67`3 points

A new smaller house is in the works, so it is with great regret I offer these Walnut La Scala IIs. They are “B” stock due to the mismatched veneer, but who cares when you view the entire speaker (and I seldom look at the sides of them)? I am somewhat OCD about audio equipment and the prior owner was just as “careful;" they are flawless. I keep a sheet over them when not in use (the gray sheets are included). These loudspeakers have no issues. They are as sonically & visually stunning as you would expect. I suspect there will be no WAF issues when they are viewed. The photographs really don't convey the total impact of the reddish tones and dark veining. They nearly match my 70th anniversary Heresys in color & veining. They are stunning in person (hyperbole until you sell them yourself). While I have the boxes, I will not ship them. That requires pallets & strapping. I sold my F-150 (no one needs a diesel right now) so delivery is not an option. I’m south of Nashville and north of DaveA, so make a country music weekend out of it. You are welcome to audition them (sorry, no SS; tubes rule) or just pick them up on the fly; your call. So to recap: -La Scala IIs -Walnut -Original Boxes Any questions? Please message me. Thanks!2 points

You can buy the original ones from JEM. I bought some for DIY for my AAs very reasonable, if you want the original sound. I just thought I would put this out there Randy must have the day off.2 points

Can you find out who did the servicing and exactly what was done? Owning vintage gear can be costly if critical components were not replaced resulting in failure. Maynard2 points

If it's toast and you have the funds, I would buy two and put your original good one in a box as a spare. The K-33x is a great woofer and should last another 40-50 years. First wait to see if Dave has one to send you.2 points

^^^ This. You'd be amazed at what these/those guys can do. At least, I was. Let me put it this way.... knowing what I know about what I know..... if I wanted a pair of these and I had the funds to drop on them, game is over. Everything else is just a minor detail and challenge to iron out, as opposed to being a deal breaker. Piano mover says no go? Call another. Call some Navy Seals that are recently retired....Keep in mind, the speaker should be in two halves. With a furniture dolly, I moved mine out of house to Florida when I worked down there, moved them back, moved them from upstairs to basement. (only one flight of stairs) If your logistics require them to be physically carried verses a furniture dolly, then it does become more of a challenge but nothing that can't be overcome with some thought, maybe some cash and some determination.2 points

Lit my "campfire" this AM. Isn't cold out.... one of those days where it doesn't improve after sunrise. I'll have coals to work with tonight. Being lazy ... coals are much easier to build a fire with. At a friend's request, I am going to visit his wife today. No... nothing exciting. She is unsteady on her feet and he has a Dr appt. She's staying home. Boy is moving... sorta... and not immediately. Got a caretaking offer. 3BR, 2 bath house on 160 acres --- off the grid ... or was, last I knew.. A lot of responsibility ... and his first place of his own. I expect many "How do you fix a..." calls. I haven't talked to him about what all he has to take care of. It may not be what I think. When I say "sorta moving"... this place is furnished. We'll see how much stuff goes. I bet the Sportster stays here.2 points

Bruce, if you want to get a spectacular view, Malahat Skywalk is the place to be. I haven't been there, but I think it's about a 30-minute drive North from Victoria. It's a spiral construction that puts you 5 or 6 storeys above the top of the Malahat. Of course, you'll want to go on a clear day. Mount Baker (75 miles/120 km East of Victoria) will be easy to see, but if it's really clear, you might be able to see Mount Rainier (125 mi/200 km Southeast of Victoria), peeking up from behind the Olympic Range. The water far below (about 1200 feet below) is Finlayson Arm, a long arm (or maybe fjord) of the Juan de Fuca Strait. The water south of Victoria is the Strait of Juan de Fuca, while the water to the East and North is Georgia Strait, which is called the Salish Sea nowadays, after the Salish First Nation, mostly the Coast Salish. You may have noticed that Mount Baker isn't directly East, more like East-North-East (ENE). That's because Victoria is actually south of the US border. Bruce, you seem to have brought the rain with you. This year, that's a good thing, since yesterday's rain was the first since early July. We had a cold damp Spring until late June, making us think we wouldn't have much of a summer, then it totally dried up and there was only about 5 mm of rain for the next 4 months. It was quite a bit hotter than usual, and warm weather records continued to be broken up until a week ago. We've been enjoying the warm evenings, but the farmers hoped their crops would survive, and the record low water levels in the rivers were dangerous for the fish. It's a good thing the rain didn't wait any longer to come.2 points

"Magic" is the only accurate description of that dimension, as in "magical thinking".1 point

Math is a terribly cruel science. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_FDIV_bug But I am intrigued by the concept of an optimum wire length. I believe Medwin's number 57.125" is a Fulton length espoused by Robert Fulton. Description lifted from someone's post on Audioasylum: The real magic number is 57.125 (57 1/8) inches, according to Robert Fulton of Fulton Musical Industries. He is the one who somehow discovered that this length of wire, and all multiples thereof, sounds best. His interconnects were all 57.125" and his speaker cables were either 3 times this (14 feet, 3 3/8 inches) or 6 times (28 feet, 6 3/4 inches). This was back in the early 1980s. I attempted to verify this a couple times but not in a rigorous way. At any rate I didn't hear any difference when the length of my interconnect or speaker cable was a couple inches less than the magic number. In case anyone is interested in experimenting with this, the magic length is the actual wire tip to tip. The soldered connectors such as RCA plugs or spade lugs are not part of the magic dimension.1 point

Thanks for the thoughts. Ok so there are more standard versions, not just the 75th models (I was thinking the Heritage was the only model). I wouldn't need the "bling" although those teak finishes are sweet... I previously did check out Paducah, they are about 6 hours from me. I thought they probably would not deliver that far away (and I really don't want to try and manhandle 300 lb+ speakers up two flights of stairs). That most likely would be a deal breaker for me. There is a Heritage dealer about 1.5 hours away, and a non-Heritage dealer about 20 minutes. Do you think the non-Heritage dealer is authorized to sell the non-Heritage Jubilees? So Roy D himself is Chief Bonehead! That is cool he is active on this forum - most manufacturers would not bother.1 point

Listening is divided into 3 categories 1. Physics is the objective acoustics, it is physically based on measurement . 2. Human ears are the psychoacoustics. They filter the metrics , such as volume , sound structures , etc . 3. The human brain is the subjective acoustics, it awakens the emotional component as well as evaluation of the music. Those who don´t understand this should deal themselves with other hobbies.1 point

Somewhere is those cable articles was a statement that "hearing memory" of the prior sound has effectively dissipated in less than 30 seconds. Better switch fast...1 point

If Klipch will really sell you a K-33 for $129.00 I would not look into reconing. You would probably spend close to that on a recone and then how do you KNOW the recone dude has real correctly made recone stuff to duplicate the OEM K-33? I have 7 K-45's and 48's in the scrap bin right now because reconing in Nashville is a big PITA and I have no assurance these woofers would be restored to OEM specs other then an empty promise. I have one of these old woofers on the shelf. Have to see if it is working and if it is you can have it for the price of shipping. I will get back to you tonight.1 point

When I built my previous Jub-Likes and my current FH-1 / K402s, I decided to wire everything with Supra PLY3.4 Speaker Wire. Supra talks about various reason why their cable sounds better, but the main reason why I spent a bit extra on this wire is the fact that all the strands are tin plated and have a quality PVC jacket. Oxidation should not be a concern, even long after I am gone.1 point

There’s quite a few of those little trucks running around Victoria, as well as lots of the Mitsubishi Delica 4-wheel drive minivans. They’re all JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) vehicles, so they’re all right-hand drive. That doesn’t seem to matter, though. Don’t know where you’d go for parts, except for bidding ninja. Bidding Ninja is a site that covers auction sites in Japan, so that we overseas customers can access sites that would normally be difficult to deal with. I used them to find an obscure DVD from my favourite band, so the $25 fee they charge felt a bit high, but hey, I couldn’t find it anywhere else, so I paid it. However, their primary business is JDM car parts, so the $25 fee is insignificant next to the price of an engine, for example. Since that’s their main interest, I’d check them out. They could be just the source you need.1 point

2023...The year the chicks come home. So glad I and my kids bought our land, built houses and bought vehicles when blank was still a Great place to live. A truck bought new a few years ago is still worth the same amount as paid. An average house in hickville went up $100,000+. My contractor friends require your checkbook to start the job and charge as they see fit, and that's everywhere cause you can't get workers. You ask any questions and you'd be a difficult customer that they flee from. Oh well...my Grand kids will have a place to live and grow food, unless the powers decide peasants should not own land. I know...that sounds as crazy as dollar a loaf bread, dollar a pack smokes sounded when I was young. Pretty amazing what a couple years can bring. Thumbs sideways....1 point

I haven't been on the forum lately, but saw this post and wanted to bump it. I saw Aaron's Klipschorns earlier this year and can vouch for their condition. They're absolutely stunning...the woodgrain on these looks ridiculously cool. Jeff1 point

Not as much but my five Heresy setup is the best sound I’ve ever had. There really is something special about matching speakers. Btw it’s timbre and it rhymes with camber. 🙂1 point
