I slept right through it. Nothing to see here. Down in the 40's last night. Hit the electric blankie and went into burrito mode. lol Cranked out a "Coke" roast yesterday in the crock pot. Might just last a day or two then I'm going to have to figure out how I'm going to manage the grocery store. Fridge is bare bones and the cupboard is right behind. Freezer still has beef left from last fall and another quarter on the way so that's a plus. No way am I cruisin around in an electric go kart. Just call me hoppy I guess. Go all ya can then go some more to get 'er done. The bill? 😂 Neighbors are piling up the leaves here in Sherwood forest. Since I didn't help out w/the lawn sweeper this year they're learning to appreciate me. lolol

I purchased this amp from an estate. I recall when I first saw the setup that the right front cable was not secure on the speaker. I’m betting it got shorted. I’ll put proper fuses in it and try again. No paper clips!

@billybob @captainbeefheart @tigerwoodKhorns 2 8 amp fuses per board. Easily accessible with cover removed! My fuses should arrive tomorrow. Both were blown on my dead channel.

I watched some pros take down some BIG trees when I was in DC. In a residential area. Not much... any.. space between houses. The trunks were an easy 5 feet in diameter. It was amazing to watch. Yeah, they used a boom truck.... only to get a man up/in the tree. Then it was all saws and ropes. They would cut manageable size pieces and lower them down on ropes.

The MWM cabinets came out of a club somewhere. They went to two other owners before I got them and were nearly mint. I really wish I hadn't sold them.

Data Test case, one low-cost Chinese 5AR4 and a 2x1N5408 rectifier plugin. Amp is a 299C scratch clone I made last year. I laid the amp out on PC boards an assembled the entire unit on a CNC machined plate. First test was to measure distortion at equivalent anode voltage, in this case 425 VDC. With a Variac, the PS transformer primary VAC is adjusted to provide anode voltage at 425VDC for both rectifiers. %THD to full output power at 20Hz is then measured and compared. Load is a 50W non-inductive power resistor across the 8 Ohm output tube transformer secondary tap. 5 measurements for each rectifier were taken and compared. If the result was consistent between each, it's reported here. At 117.1 VAC at the PS transformer primary the 5AR4 produces 425VDC with 1243mA at idle. At 111.6 VAC at the PS transformer primary the 2x1N5408 plug-in produces 425VDC with 1245mA at idle. Blue is 5AR4 Green is 2x1N5408 rectifier A measurable difference below about 2W RMS, above that it's a wash. There are other tests that are worth performing but this was the quickest. The next test was to fix the PS transformer primary voltage to 120 VAC for rectifier condition, turn the amp on and measure the PS transformer instantaneous (i.e., "turn on") current thru the AC power entry module. The peak VDC at the anode is also measured. The 5AR4@120VAC peak current 1448mA AC and peak voltage 437.8 VDC The 2x1N5408@120VAC peak current 2586mA AC and peak voltage 488.6VDC The instantaneous current draw is 1.2A or about 2X greater using the solid-state rectifier. Peak anode voltage at turn-on is about 51VDC larger using the solid-state rectifier as well. Note that wall power can approach 125VAC which would create larger differences in magnitude than what's being measured here. Next will be filament current measurements at turn on and the effect of various in-rush current limiters on the solid-state rectifier turn on characteristics.

klipsch Pro speakers are Heritage sleepers than can handle more power .

A new smaller house is in the works, so it is with great regret I offer these Walnut La Scala IIs. They are “B” stock due to the mismatched veneer, but who cares when you view the entire speaker (and I seldom look at the sides of them)? I am somewhat OCD about audio equipment and the prior owner was just as “careful;" they are flawless. I keep a sheet over them when not in use (the gray sheets are included). These loudspeakers have no issues. They are as sonically & visually stunning as you would expect. I suspect there will be no WAF issues when they are viewed. The photographs really don't convey the total impact of the reddish tones and dark veining. They nearly match my 70th anniversary Heresys in color & veining. They are stunning in person (hyperbole until you sell them yourself). While I have the boxes, I will not ship them. That requires pallets & strapping. I sold my F-150 (no one needs a diesel right now) so delivery is not an option. I’m south of Nashville and north of DaveA, so make a country music weekend out of it. Well it's been 80 here for a couple of days, and muggy. 70 with 30% today... perfect. Got the computer wiped and back up... now I only want to get away from it!! Good once you drain off the grease, especially with an onion cut up in the pan with `em! Made four out of a pound and a half of 80/20. One more for later today.

Actually I started this thread on rectifier rolling and as I acknowledged in a subsequent post plug-in SS rectifiers had been considered. After reading the posts, it affirmed my lay conclusion that due to the nearly instantaneous availability of higher voltages. a SS rectifier is best in a circuit designed for SS rectification.

don't assume that straight at the listening position is the best angle for imaging (it should provide the most forwardness, though). for my kef reference 1s, firing straight down the room is the best. for my heresys, having them toed in to cross a few feet in front of the listening position is best. for the chorus 1s that i just got, having them toed in to cross 4-5' in front of the listening position is best. for a deeper soundstage, moving the speakers out into the room will help. for a wider soundstage, i would try moving the speakers closer together. bottom line, enjoy playing around with them! you'll find the spot! edit: last random thought. for the chorus 1s i have and when i tried cornwall, any sort of absorption behind klipsch speakers seems to not work well. my kef reference 1s love the bass traps placed in the corners behind them.

Yes, I built three sets. One for a forum member and two for me. My first set for me was a hack job with cheap parts just so I could dump my Crown amps. When I had more money I built a nice pair.

Have you built or heard any of the passive/driver combos? Wouldn't mind seeing some for the different drivers Klipsch used.

That seems like a definite possibility to me. If your speakers are connected out of phase, with one woofer cone moving ahead while the other one moves back, your bass volume will be seriously compromised. I’d check every speaker wire connection to be sure that the positive (+) plugs (probably black) are going into the positive sockets on the receiver end and the speaker end, and that the negative (-) plugs (probably red) are going into the negative sockets at both the receiver and the speaker end. If even one of them is connected wrong, the woofers literally won’t be pushing together, they’ll be working against each other, so their bass output will be really poor. Even if you connected every connection properly, it can happen that the assembler at the factory hooked them up backwards inside the speaker cabinet, but this is extremely rare and should be caught during final testing. It should only be considered after everything else has been double-checked. I don’t know how much you know about sound systems, so I’ll keep it pretty basic. Is your receiver set to put out a signal to LFE? Modern AVRs are pretty complicated. My current AVR is a 2016 model and is my 3rd AVR, starting with a 1998 model. Even so, while setting up this one, back in 2016, I had to call Yamaha Music’s Tech Department to get some help to get the system sounding how it should. It turned out that there were a couple of spots in the menus that had to be set correctly to get the subs working properly. The settings were not obvious, and the tech said that this was something he’d had to explain to a number of customers, so it wasn’t just me who struggled with it. For the subwoofer settings, the phase switch should be set the same on both subs. It’s easy to overlook. As for the subs’ Level setting, it should not be necessary to turn it up past 11 o’clock, especially with two subs. Next and last is the subs’ high-cut, which sets their nominal highest frequency. Don’t be misled by these types of controls. It’s not like the subs put out full power right up to the frequency that you set, and then totally drop off. Their output will start to drop off around that frequency, and some output may go a bit past that. As for the speakers, they put out their sound down to a certain frequency, and then it starts to roll off, until the output is so quiet as to be ineffective. Their lowest rated frequency is usually where the output is down by 3 dB. That’s a noticeable drop, then after that point they really drop off. Beware of the enablers! They lurk in many places in the Forum. They'll help you spend all your money, until your living room is full of giant speakers and your friends always want to party at your place, but there's only room for a love seat and an armchair, so they have to sit on some of the speakers, which is no problem, because they're that big. Also, as Coytee pointed out many years ago, La Scalas make excellent speakers for a guy in university, for a couple of reasons. First, they're too big to steal, and second, they're stable enough for drunk college girls to dance on them safely.

Not to thread crap too much.... but let me correct you. When my buddy came over to first hear the LaScalas (bone stock), I had the 20 db mute button pushed on my Yamaha receiver (forget model, but it was 100 watts/channel) Had volume knob turned to about 2:00, had the mute button pushed. The intro to Long Time came on. He walked up to one of the speakers.... the song grew in strength but had not yet blasted loose. Unknown to my buddy, my finger gently went over to the mute button... The song grew in power, boom Boom BOOm BOOM and when it creshendo'ed I let the mute button go. By now he was 2-3 feet away from the speaker and the suddenness of how loud & impactful it got in that instant was (unfortunate for him, yes he can still hear today) but, it was absolutely hysterical... he literally, and I mean LITERALLY jumped like a cat through the air backwards about three feet and landed on his butt. Just thinking about it today and trying to type it out has me again, giggling at how startled he was by what happened.

Ive been eating meat nearly exclusively for a few weeks now... I feel wonderful. my mind is much clearer, I wake up feeling great and any stomach issues I was suffering before are completely gone. I still mix in an occasional GREEN vegetable but fruits, process sugars and mass carbohydrates are out.

NO way could I even think about putting it on. Two arms maybe but the rest? Soooo not happening. Wonder how much some skinny guy would pay for it? lol Oh well. Seeing this I started over-thinking again. 😂 Some great groups passed thru both the NY & SFran venues back in the day. The Byrds? Not too shabby if you ask me.

I did my research. drove several hours to each way to risk buying these. I used my time, my money, asked knowledgeable people in vintage stereo community's all over Portland, called Bob crites, talked to him at length, he said your crossover boards are just plain RARE.. not one person said hey I know those speakers! everyone said never seen them, no posts online in all the dozens of forums about anything on these speakers. and found only one unit with horrible conditions to the cabinet and much later serial # sell for $1000. so yes I am asking what i feel is a FAIR market value for a pair of never seen before heresy with sequential serial #. i am willing to see if someone wants to trade me klipsch speakers gear etc.. i am thankful for all the help that i have gotten. i again would love to keep them and might do so. but i also think that someone might cherish this rare set more than me.

So you don't need mega power and the Forte's have good bottom end. Your phono stage will be noticed in the mids and highs. A tube pre will take the edge off your highs just a bit. So if you find your treble a bit too much, that may be a good thing. If you yearn for ultra high sizzle, a solid state phono pre lends itself to more, to the point of shrill. All this depending on your source vinyl and how it was mastered, but generally speaking tubes give you warm without being dull and solid state can get edgy on horns. I like high end sizzle and my tube phono pre with large horns sounds wonderful. Either way, you really can't go wrong. It's more a personal taste kind of thing.

The Smith horns image very well and while I knew they would have great horizontal dispersion, I have no clue how well they handled the vertical soundstage. I really like these horns.

Some extensive house cleaning had me pull my system apart. Well it got me to thinking about changing some things around. I have simplified the system and still need to put the area rug back in to cover the tile, but I like how it turned out.

What you can't see are the mesh curtains that cover all the windows. These help but the biggest change was adding the acoustic panels behind the horns. It really brought the system to life. So much cleaner and more sensitive. Both pairs of speakers are high efficiency and driven with a 2A3 SET amp with 3.5 watts per channel. Still it can play way louder than you would want.

I got it off Ebay. These were 16" x 96", so I could use one sheet to cover one speaker and the grain would be continuous across the entire speaker. I bought an extra sheet to cut the banding for the front edge of the speakers. It was only $50 a sheet, as it was left over from a large job they had done. Good luck on the Heresy speakers. They should be fairly easy to do and not require a lot of veneer.
