  10. No need to re-read, and I am about as low rent as it gets. You can obsess forever and somehow never enjoy the music. To quote Racer X above: "It never makes a difference until it does." As I also said, my LS sounded great anyway. I would guess most others feel the same way, or they wouldn't be such a popular speaker. Without having the LS in my house, I would say approx. 14-16 inches is not "mere inches." Enjoy your evening.

  17. I certainly don't have golden ears, but moving my LS tweeters to a small baffle on top of the cabinets and physically aligning the voice coils with the mids was quite apparent. That doesn't mean they aren't enjoyable in their stock placement, but I could easily tell the difference. Yeah, 50+ years here, too.

Lived it back in the 90s while I was down there. I watched NFL back then also and only the three FL teams were on Sundays!

  29. I applaud you for doing these real world tests. Many people are wondering about these types of situations where they have an amp and want to play with it by changing rectifiers. I have a few thoughts though I would like to add. First is these people doing these changes aren't going to step the voltage down on the primary. I see what you are trying to do which is create the same operating point for the circuit in order to compare just the rectifier and not the changes made to the operating conditions around the tube. E.g. higher plate voltage and current if bias isn't adjusted. This leads to a completely new problem created by reducing the primary voltage so low. The tube heaters are now running low, for 117v to 6.3v secondary at 111v the heater will be now ~5.8v. This is most likely lowering emissions and subsequent transconductance of the devices. *I know the Scott uses the negative bias rail for 4 of the tubes series filament string, so they should be unaffected but the entire power amp uses AC filaments.

  32. ALMOST, pitched my sweeper today. Thing has been working about half maybe. There went 2 hours. lol Decided I'd better die into it when I found out it was $250 new. That thing can suck an egg thru a garden hose if ya know what I mean. 😂 Decided to unload my VetsAid tickets for Sunday evening. Just don't think I could do the walkin and it's really not too smart if I want these toes to heal. Made my mailman a happy boy. Going for 3k each now resale. Joe's ALWAYS been a dam* jinx to me and he knows it. lol Last time I did his solo show it was with Tom Petty in Cbus. Nothing like getting a new pacer lead wire replaced in the morning and stumbling into the venue that nite. Slept a few hours at my youngest's apt then eat and get dropped off at the show. Dumbest thing I ever did. Friends brought me home and dumped me. Perfect! NOT! Now THIS garbage! lol Ole Jinx is gonna hear about it too! lol Might just have to catch the Livestream for $20 and crank it up. Check the link for the rundown, which features Joe & the Gang with Foxy and Dale playing, Dave Grohl, Black Keys, NIN, and The Breeders. All Ohio dudes! 6 PM EST show and will be worth every penny for $20. You also get 48 hours of extended viewing. https://vetsaid.veeps.com/events/f2d6e78d-d48a-4892-9e5b-355db45079a3?irgwc=1&clickid=UJtUBP1LdxyNR3lXany953ZtUkDSUnyS0TiY380&camefrom=CFC_BUYAT_3219313&impradid=3219313&REFERRAL_ID=tmfeedbuyat3219313&wt.mc_id=aff_BUYAT_3219313&utm_source=3219313-Veeps&impradname=Veeps&utm_medium=affiliate&ircid=4272 Remember EVERY PENNY of this show is going to VetsAid. Aside from that, mid 60's maybe and going down there at night. Carry on! lol

  33. I just bought The Fives McLaren Edition speakers. To add more bass I am considering to buy a matching subwoofer. But I have no idea which Klipsch subwoofer would be a good match for The Fives McLaren Edition speakers. I want to use the setup primarily to listen to music in a 15m2 room. I want the bass experience for the music to be as good as with the speakers. I will also connect the system to my TV but I don’t need a blow-away sound experience with the TV. I can live without ultra low bass. I would guess that a 10 inch subwoofer would be sufficient. On the Klipsch website on the The Fives McLaren Edition page I believe I can see the SPL-100SW next to the The Fives McLaren Edition speakers. So that may be one choice. Another choice might be the R-100SW. Just purely from the technical standpoint, which subwoofer would be the best match for the The Fives McLaren Edition?

  34. Or more. If your amp has a 5Y3 rectifier the impedance is nearly 500 ohms compared to 5AR4 of maybe ~80 ohms. Typically in 6V6 or 6BQ5 type amps with a DC load of ~100mA, that's 50v lost right off the bat. Those amps are typically cathode biased and running near max plate dissipation already. With 48mA and 250v on the plate, if you add another 50v bias is going to shoot those power tubes well past their max plate dissipation. Now your looking at 300v and 60mA, 18 watts plate dissipation with a 12 watt tube will red plate and not last very long. I 100% agree with Henry in that unless you know what you are doing or have checked with the manufacturer of your amplifier do not swap around rectifiers. I was sort of under the impression this was an engineering discussion about when designing an amp why choose tube or SS. But there is also the conversation of having an existing amplifier most likely with a tube rectifier and you want to try a SS plug in. I never new they were that popular but it appears a lot of people are buying these things.

  41. Bear with me here, ticked at my football team for: p--- poor play calling, needing to dump their qb and generally play better ball. Even if Cade comes in in the second half and saves the game I might purge all my orange anyhow. I'd recommend some rockin' prior to the game instead of the noise I hear out there a lot! Maybe some bloody red meat too, ya know to grow some....

  42. True. Sadly enough, I had to sell a pair of 1978 KWO's I bought from the original owner in 2008. It was my first post on this forum, actually. They were all original and immaculate and I paid $500 for the pair. He was a retired Delta airlines pilot and they were downsizing some things. I bought the Khorns, a pair of custom made Barzillay cabinets with tambour doors, and some other things from him. Helluva nice guy. I sadly had to sell them when the company I was with went under in 2009 and I sold tons of stuff off, sold my house, paid everything off, and went back to college at 43. I wish I could have kept them. The images are long gone from that thread but this is what they looked like.
