This works for me HELIOS is the architect's own home which evolved over time from a passive solar home, to a home which also reduced its hot water needs, to a home with reduced heating and cooling energy loads, and finally to a net zero energy home. Helios was first constructed in 1984 as a passive solar home with the intent of employing proper building orientation, partial earth sheltering, solar gain through a two story sunspace and south facing windows, and building mass to reduce the heating load in rural northwestern New Jersey. This design resulted in a home which consumed only 35% of the energy needed for space heating a comparable conventional home. In 1998 a solar hot water system was added to provide 65% of the hot water needs. With the advent of high efficiency mini-ductless split-system heat pumps, this equipment was installed over time to replace the existing heating systems in the home. When solar photovoltaic (PV) systems became more affordable in 2008, a 4.7 KW (DC) system was installed, and with further economies in solar PV an additional 4.1 KW (DC) system was installed in 2015. The result is a net-zero energy home which has been carefully monitored over a full year of actual use to verify that all energy for space heating, cooling, hot water, and plug loads is provided by solar energy. The only energy not yet covered is the electricity needed to charge the owner's electric car. When community solar is permitted in New Jersey the owner plans to purchase the necessary energy from a community system to also satisfy the electric vehicle. https://nesea.org/project-case-study/helios-passive-active-solar-home-net-zero-energy/general4 points

Yes, that and the "old hoarder"... Would love to get more Genesis and Yes on vinly, but their LPs hardly turn up on forum sales, same as Queen and Gary Moore. Everybody looks for those... IĀ“ve been very lucky with this stash. ThereĀ“s still some more to come.2 points

Welcome back George! Sounds like you survived that whirlwind tour again. @grasshopperNo phone service wouldn't bother me. Low tech is the way to go on just about everything IF you can find what your looking for. These places today are taking everyone another place even though they don't want to go there. Chainsaws? The kid next door is an electrical engineer so everything he buys is electric. He was out trimming bushes then blowing the yard w/battery operated tools. I did see Stihl had an electric model out. Just crazy to even think about using an electric chainsaw. George would prolly approve since Stihl is a German company. It's all I run and no problemo's so far. There is the tried and true ax yanno.2 points

getting back to basics Made bread today. Came out good, again. Guess I've got a handle on bread by hand. Next challenge is tortillas. Many years ago, a friend's grandmother was gonna teach me to make them... I was too young and stupid to take her up on it. the new appliances It was tough finding ones w/o computers. We didn't want anything too sophisticated. The stove does have a digital clock/timer and a start button that you need to push to operate the oven/broiler and the timer.... and a stop/cancel button. Not sure if I like that... I need to use it more before I decide.2 points

Just for clarity when reporting the sound levels people are listening at what are the applied weightings (ie: dB(A), dB(C), dB(Z) and response time (ie: Fast or Slow) of the SPL Meters being used by everyone..? Other variables that should be considered: (1) The orientation of the Microphone (ie: are you pointing toward the loudspeaker sources or the ceiling for example). (2) Placement of the Microphone/Meter (ie: at eye level and arms length or lower and closer to the body or placed on an object like table or ottoman for examples). All the above can lead to considerable variations in the reported levels listeners are reporting if not consistently applied by everyone. miketn2 points

Thatās an interesting suggestion. My speakers only have remnants of the labels remaining. What is there is located towards the upper right-hand corner of the backs. The surviving text is the right way around which would indicate that the backs havenāt been rotated (unless the labels were removed and repositioned). Apart from the screws, there are no holes ā or signs of holes that have been filled ā- on the backs. That makes me think that what @jcn3 related about his ā84 Heresyās may also be applicable to my ā83s.1 point

This REW link has information that helps to understand the differences in SPL meter settings. https://www.roomeqwizard.com/help/help_en-GB/html/splmeter.html C weighting covers a wider frequency spectrum than A weighting Slow weighting gives a more average reading versus Fast weighting. NOTE: If anyone is using REW you must calibrate the meter for accurate readings miketn Here are a couple of screen shots from the link1 point

We had friends who built their own house on the west side of Madison, WI... 12in. outside walls, living room floor was a thick slab of concrete with slate on top. Triple glazed on the wall facing the sun. When it was -10 outside, it was toasty warm inside. They had a wood stove for periods when they had a few cloudy days. No fans inside to move the air. There were vents to the upstairs and cool air returned down the stairway (as I recall).1 point

If you're so inclined, try a "different" output transformer configuration. For example, I have a customer that requested the 299C reproduction amplifier using the Lundahl C-core and based on my listening, sounded excellent. They're a bit pricey. The powder coated enclosure provides a nice aesthetic. A 299C power supply transformer (Heyboer wound) is shown next to the C-core. North Reading Engineering Forum - Index1 point

Either/or All or nothing Pigeon holed minds tend towards two dimensional thinking. Throw in the ubiquitous "they" and continue down the path of illogic. Intelligent communities are already using a variety of sources in combination to great effect.1 point

Hi all Good to see a post from you @MicroMara today has been a balance We bought a new refrigerator and stove. They were delivered at 9AM. It was fun watching people work, instead of being the one watched... The phone repair... a tech [actually the tech's supervisor] was working on it yesterday. Now, it doesn't work at all ... any time. It was working after things warmed in the AM... no mas. At least I'm not getting phone solicitors. The fuel line for my chainsaw arrived, too. Let's just say... I would have much rather had the shop do the repair.... except, I am not planning to go to Tucson twice next week. I hate working on chainsaws. I'm not too keen on working on motors, in general. Chainsaws are the worst that I have dealt with. Dirty, nasty even after you clean them. They pack 2lb of stuff into a one pound box and linkages jangle off while you are dealing with anything else. If you are trying to remove that link, you have to tear the whole machine apart... They are Chinese puzzles covered in sawdust and oil. in hindsight I proly could have made 2 trips to Tucson in the time spent doing the work myself. Not to mention the frustration. I have two pairs of 30's that I fully restored as well as fixed any cabinet issues. If you're rolling amps, tubes etc. you are just pissing in the wind if you have leaking cabinets or crossover issues with the 30's which are common problems with this particular line of Klipsch. Once I got the 30's working properly, they do GREAT with low power, high power, medium power......as long as it's good power. They're fun to listen to with a high powered amp for loud volumes and just as satisfying (if not more) with a low powered tube amp at low volumes for critical listening. I have two systems in the house with 30's in each one. One system is high powered for when I want a live concert experience. The other is low powered with tubes in a fully treated room for critical listening. Both are complimented with horn loaded subs and it's fricken awesome. These speakers I take to the grave. š1 point
