  1. I've been a regular member on this forum for 22 years! I've posted a lot of stuff here. That said, I've created a forum for experimentalist, builders and engineers. It's not linked to my webpage. It's for those that have interest in designing and building hardware. There's also Marketplace section where gear can be sold and a section where members can list parts and components they're looking to acquire. I have no interest in advertising on it, I have plenty of server capacity elsewhere for advertising. I'm interested in idea generation and exploring concepts. Manufacturers are welcome too but no advertisements. Here's the link: North Reading Engineering Forum - Index Also, a few years back, I tried getting a forum up but had all sorts of issues with bots and attacks and decided to take it down. The forum software (SMF) I'm using now appears to be better configured to resist internet garbage. That remains to be seen. jw PS. I'll leave it up for a few months and contribute to it with projects I'm currently working on! If there's interest in the forum, I'll leave it up. Also, if there's interest in other topics then shoot me an email at forum@northreadingeng.com

  3. Burrrrrrp! Dinner came out good. Grand and her mom showed up just as I was carving the bird. A super nice, casual day..... time for a nap, after I have a cup or two of coffee. Hope y'all are having a great Thanksgiving.. you too, @MicroMara..... even if you aren't having a turkey feast. When wife was in Malaysia, wife wanted something Thanksgiving. The fam got her a pumpkin [of some sort]. She made a pie with it and started a new thing for them... They had never had pumpkin pie. After that, one of her family wanted pumpkin pie for his birthday. I thought that was too cool.

  5. My Forte IVs sound good with all genres of music but listening to Carol King and James Taylor live at the Troubadour fills my soul. It’s like they are here in my house giving me a private concert. When music sounds this great it makes the investment in Klipsch worth every penny and more. These two harmonize like few others and show off the synergy of the system. Klipsch and tubes seem to share a special harmony. So drawn in! 🥳

  7. Everybody have their big turkey sandwich today? I sure did, then put together my Christmas that got here today. No surprises anymore with just me except for one today. Left Donald & Walter getting all red in their faces from the One & Only Terrible Ted. Third disc finishes Katy Lied, then dives into Royal Scam: Then gets a couple off of Aja. My surprise... The hydraulics or whatever in my fantastic Hon 24hr chair have died and it's stuck at the card table height it's been at for 16 months. At the new desk it feels like it did being a kid at the grownup table

  8. @guido23Yes, if your room can handle the size, definitely floorstanders. The biggest ones available. Would also look at what center speaker that would match it eventually. Different ways to get there depending on availability and price, if it matters. Even buying the 600m now and pushing it them into surrounds eventually. Could make choice on subwoofer after you hear your fronts perform. Cool if receiver has inputs for phono or not. Others can and will have ideas. Switzerland sounds nice and Welcome...

  10. Works good. Best result with one of Valvo ECC82 from late 50's Also have to say one more thing (though it's off topic here, sorry): here in Ukraine we are very grateful to the people of the United States for the help. Thank you so much! We will never forget that

  13. Absolutely! I've even wondered if it would be worth doing the headphone thing..... with a subwoofer in the room to augment the visceral assault. Kind of best of both worlds...

  14. Hello everyone. I am Guido, i am living in Switzerland. I just moved here, i come from Argentina. I love listening to music, i have a lot of cds, blu rays and vinyls, and still buying and collecting. Also like watching movies... So, i decided to start little by little developing a nice sound system at home. I just bought a Yamaha RX-V4A 5.2 channel receiver, to connect TV, BluRax and Turntable to it. Now, let's go to speakers. (I am adding an orientating layout of my living room, to be clear.) I am buying now my front speakers L/R. In the future i would buy if needed a sub and i would like to ad for sure a center speaker for movies. Eventually, i would add satellites to have the 5.1 system, but that is not my priority. With a good 2.0 / 2.1 system and eventually adding a center speaker, i would be satisfied. Here comes the question / advice needed: I can buy now a pair of: RP-600M II (new model) R-600F (new model) R-820F (old model) RP-5000F (old model) I like floorstanding speakers, and i think they will fill more the room than the 600M. But maybe, with the 600M and then adding 1/2 subs i will get a better experience. I read you. Thanks!

  17. with having leftovers... we are not doing organized meals, just a continuation of yesterday. The carcass in the stock pot. Smells like Thanksgiving. with a degree of luck, my quiet will be disturbed by the sound of telephone solicitors tomorrow. It's been a week since they fixed the intermittent to dead all the time. Can't help to think they let the magic smoke out of something when they were working on it last week. I don't know how close you all are to your siblings... I miss talking to my sisters. We laugh a lot.

  19. It is probably not worth the cost. Some of the article is good, much of it is recycled urban myths. I know, I worked with anechoic chambers for over 3 decades.

  20. Yes I have the industrial LaScala with the k43 E but it was mentioned in this thread that the newer K33 E has a higher power handling capability. When I looked at Deans link to speaker exchange it says it can replace the k43 E. I was just wondering how close it would be to the k43 E. Sent from my LM-G820 using Tapatalk

  21. So there was an office chair thread a wile back. How about a desk thread? I work (and sit) at a desk all day. I've had back problems since a work injury back in college. Exercises, minding my weight and a good office chair have kept the back surgeon at bay, so far, but a lot worse the last few years. I've been intrigued by standing desks for a while but just never took the time. Luckily some house cleaning and clutter removal forced me to attack my office. I got rid of a desk specifically bought for a different house and picked up a variable height desk. Its a lot smaller but the old, long, L-shaped desk was just a magnet for piles of anything and everything. The first full day of the new desk is at hand. I face my window now versus turning my head 90* to look out. My shoulders and abbs are already starting to let me know "hey what are you doing to us". Better toe tapping and leg wobbling while grooving to the music. So far so good. I'm starting to think at the beginning I won't actually be standing all that long at one time. 15-20 minutes in and my body knows something is different. I'm sure if you were a check out clerk at a grocery store or a barber you would scoff at idea of doing something designed to make you stand all day. Visions of the Seinfeld episode when George got the security guard a chair. Anyone standing on purpose, by choice at work? Any thoughts or suggestions?

  23. They are CF-3's, not CF-4's. From what I have seen the CF-3 v1. command a lot more than the v2 or v3. I was looking at a pair of Vintage Forte's, but these came up for 1/2 as much and I wanted to check them out. I think I am just going to splurge next year on a new pair of Forte IV or Hersey's for my 2 channel set up. I started with a pair of R-51M's and a Polk DSW Pro 660wi sub and the bookshelf's paired with the sub sounded really good. Just wanted to get something else to put the R-51M's and sub back into my 7.2 channel set up. The 2 channel is just for nostalgia and listening to vinyl. I will eventually upgrade to a big vintage Pioneer or Marantz or Sansui. I started small 2 or 3 years ago and keep getting bigger receivers. Started at 15WPC with a small Sony STR-6036a , then a Pioneer sx780, at 45WPC, now a Kenwood KR-7400 at 63 WPC. Next one will be 100WPC ++ I was trying to keep it all vintage, but I think Vintage speakers are the toughest to find in good shape and then harder to do anything with if there is a problem. Started with a pair of Original Advent Loudspeakers, but one didn't have the original Masonite woofer, thought I would pick up a used one and never came across anything reasonable, I paid $20 for them and turned around and sold them for $20 to a guy that was in the same situation. I wasn't looking to make a killing and ask $150 for the woofer. I do this for fun and I'm not trying to make a profit. I might list the 3 good woofers I have for a $150 each to try to get most of money back on these.

When Black Friday comes I'll stand down by the door And catch the gray men when they Dive from the fourteenth floor When Black Friday comes I'll collect everything I'm owed And before my friends find out I'll be on the road When Black Friday falls You know it's got to be Don't let it fall on me When Black Friday comes I'll fly down to Muswellbrook Gonna strike all the big red words From my little black book Gonna do just what I please Gonna wear no socks and shoes With nothing to do but feed All the kangaroos with @Full RangeWhen Black Friday comes I'll be on that hill You know I will When Black Friday comes I'm gonna dig myself a hole Gonna lay down in it 'Til I satisfy my soul Gonna let the world pass by me The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me And if he don't come across I'm gonna let it roll When Black Friday comes I'm gonna stake my claim I'll guess I'll change my name

  26. I have taken the woofer out to inspect it and visually it looks good. Dust cap isn't lose and there isn't visible any damage. It had a good connection. The only other thing I was thinking was taking one of the good ones and plugging it into the other speaker to make sure it wasn't a crossover or wire issue. Any of you you technical audiophiles live in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area and want to help out a member. LOL. And I did reach out to seller and politely offered to drive 2.5 hours to return them and get a refund, less than what I originally paid to cover his cost of meeting me the first time. He never responded. I am going to try one more time, just because I will be in his area next week for work, but I am not expecting anything. Since there are others on here that were in need, I might part them out in attempt to recover some of my loss.

  28. two stereo amps to one pair of speakers? All that is needed is a 4PDT switch. The device you linked to looks to have 2 DPDT switches and all speaker jacks all in a neat package. Probably could not be DIY that cheap.

  29. Why don't you give it a try en then let us know? Seems pretty robust. You could wait until Macintosh puts their label on it and asks $1,640 for it...

  30. K-28 is a great woofer, but is it not 4 ohms and @TheGoodTexan’s Heresys use a crossover designed for an 8 ohm woofer? Would he not need an as yet undesigned and approved Klipsch crossover for the mod to be discussed on THIS forum. …something that might turn them into “Super Heresys”

  33. OK, this one´s had it... The cover is really battered and it´s music plus campfire charm. It will become a donation to the local record store for it´s "One Buck Basket". But if I get the chance, I will get a better one, the songs are fine.

  34. Just my opinion but I don't care for the bickering over the choice/source of replacement capacitors. To believe it's even audible, I have to see some spectrum comparisons -- that is, data. Otherwise it's just opinions. Happy Thanksgiving Klipsch fans. I'll be listening to my 72 KHorns with caps I replaced about a year or two ago. Pnort

  35. A definite pleasing and acceptable adjustment can be made by ear but........to go really deep down this rabbit hole you will need a UMIK(from the miniDSP folks) and REW running on a laptop or PC. Or some equivalent measuring system. Do the amps your going to use have gain controls?

  37. I've decided to clean them up as best I can, as well as replace the fabrics on the front. Then I will try to sell them. But I'm still not sure what they are worth once I'm done. They will not be perfect looking but they will look good for their age. There is not mold, cat spray, or odor. The images with reflections are because I wiped them down and the light from my sliding doors caused a reflection. I'll take better pictures when I'm done. Thanks, and I'd appreciate any additional advice or directions.

  39. I stopped by Blue Hawk Audio last week since I had to run up to Bismarck .Thanks to @Schufor posting the video . The gentleman speaking in the video was very gracious . He allowed me to demo the Jubilee's and enjoyed showing them to someone who was familiar with them. I could try to describe the experience but I'm not sure what to say except they made me smile from ear to ear ! The McIntosh gear being used was pretty nice as well. I worked in North Dakota from Bismarck to almost Fargo for several years, life is very different there. Blue Hawk carries Very Expensive Equipment and trust me , there are some very wealthy farmers. Back a little while there was quite a bit of oil money as well. The winters are harsh so Indoor activities are popular. You do not want to play pool or darts against anyone from North Dakota. The mall is a good place for them to operate. People have to travel quite a ways to get anything. I think the next closest Mall or McDonalds for that matter is about 40 miles away. This particular mall houses a very popular sporting goods store and brings in a lot of people.

  40. I don’t know about the internet, but this community (site) is dying. All one needs to do is look at the level of traffic and of new threads lately. I’m not offering a reason, but it’s plain to see the dynamic in here has changed.

  42. the issue with ALL A/B double blind testing is... 1- it does not test any differences in a test subject, it tests the ability of an observer to discern a difference in a test subject. 2- it relies on a 'projection' to make and reinforce the statement of the test subject. if you want a accurate 'mean' for a test subject, you dont test 100 people to determine whether or not 10,000 people will experience a difference... you test 100,000 people to determine the mean on whether not 10,000 will hear a difference. this entire exercise is nothing more than an exercise in Subjectivity.

  43. I have the RFlll, and I have found a great way to fix them is set a pair of JBL 590 beside them. That worked great for me, 590 for music and 7lll for movies and concerts. Just one owners opinion that has tried many dozens of pre's/amp's, modern and classic gear.

  44. Here are Olive's top four capabilities with their relative weights (and the main objective of the patented process): You can see what's missing from this, and I think it was deliberately designed like this to benefit Harman/JBL's products--I'm sorry to say. Both Toole and Olive have pretty much permanently traded in their integrity (in my book) and like the discussion on the audibility of loudspeaker phase distortion that Toole also obfuscated in his book, I can't really trust their conclusions. Others may forgive this type of "brand support" marketing that appears often in this domain, but for me it's a lost cause for me to trust these guys again. I will always look at the sources that are quoted by either of these guys before forming an opinion on this subject domain. Chris
