  2. Hi, I'm Domenico and I'm italian. After having user Heresy and La Scala for almost five years, I finally found a 1972 pair oh Klipschorn. I'm very pleased about them, they are in very good shape and sound is amazing.

  3. Prof. Sengspiel was a sound engineer and audio engineer. He passed away a few years ago and his heirs have fortunately decided to keep his website online, also in English. One of the best collections for most calculations and explanations in audio. http://www.sengpielaudio.com/Calculations03.htm Maybe good enough and helpful enough to be pinned permanently.

  6. Nope, nothing from me. She "disappeared" on our conversations (which is lame). It would have been nice to be told "sorry, someone came and got it" but that never happened. I was eyeballing this coming weekend as a travel weekend. Oh well... maybe someone will grab them, throw half of it back up for sale to recoup their costs and keep half of it?

  9. What I did so far was lightly sand down both cabinets w ultra fine scotch pad, this removed most stains, followed by Mineral Spirits w cotton cloth. Used MS and pad to work on and remove rest of stains. After cabinets were dry I applied a light coat of Watco rejuvenation oil, let in absorb about 15min then wipe down any excess. This next picture shows cabinet top after 1 coat. I plan on applying 2 to 3 more coats w light sanding between then applying a good finish wax. Will post pictures when finished hope this will help others.

  10. Vertical mounting is a bit of a double edged sword. If you squirt the hot melt under the cap and press down - when you solder, the glue melts and gets pulled through the hole. If you leave the cap somewhat lifted off the board, then it's not as secure - but the soldering looks better. After you solder, go back and squirt the hot melt under the cap. I started by gluing the electrolytic to the low pass coil to stabilize it while I soldered. Gorilla glue hot melt is the best I've ever used. I also use the small version of the gun and sticks for better control. I normally hit areas where parts are up against each other for reasons I can't remember.

  11. This first picture shows a common way of getting the cap in. It's okay I suppose, but I prefer to radius the leads to the front or rear of the cap and adjust the leads so the capacitor makes contact with the board.

  13. With front porting, positioning from the wall behind the speakers is not important, bass-wise so you have more flexibility in placement. With rear porting, often the manufacturer will recommend a minimum distance between the rear port and the wall. For instance, the manual for the Heresy IV recommends 12" minimum between the rear port and the wall. I'm sure placing the port too close to a wall disturbs air flow out of the port.

  15. Here you are. I live near Rome. The seller told me he was the second owner; don't know if it is true, but he gave me the owner information packet, I think it's quite rare for a pair of speakers of the seventies...

  17. This is in the garage sale section. You can also look for THX Certified equipment that lacks HDMI. These can be had very cheap and tend to be high quality.

  18. Not sure about the specs on that Denon amp. But if you can use a passive preamp, like the Schiit mentioned above, you'll likely not find an active preamp under a thousand dollars (sometimes much more) that can touch a high quality passive. For under 500.00, I'd go with this: https://khozmo.com/index.html If you can stretch your budget, this one: https://www.hattor.com/mini_preamp.html

  22. Very well explanation. As I measured the box volume size is approximately 41.68 liters 3.5 inch front port. I notice on the playback this produces a "very good" bass dynamics pleasantly on medium power lets say around 10 watts of tube power. I'm trying to break in my newer and see if this is truly if this cabinet will be a perfect match including the size of my living room which is 600 sq ft. The other thing that confuses me on these klipsch speaker cabinet is the ohm reading. It says 8-ohms and the readings I'm getting is 3.9 ohms. O'm kind of a bit alarmed because I intend to use this in hi fidelity purpose listening to tube amps with only an 8-ohms speaker output. I'm nit sure if this is compatible enough not to hurt my output transformer. Are you using your KG-3.5 speakers in audio or video setup? What if your comment in your new speakers? Thank you. CCG Thank you.. of KG-3.5

  24. Leave the crossovers alone. You could test the caps to see how far off they are (or not). They aren't leaking, so the seals are still good on them.

  26. These are kind of self explanatory. I chose wire this time around instead of extending the lead with more lead material. I wanted to see if the flexibility of the wire would help with the vertical mounting. I'm still undecided.

  30. My Chorus IIs were also on carpeting. The risers were beat, so I replaced them with solid pine Forte IV type risers. That little tweak really tightened up the bass, giving them a more sealed subwoofer type of sound.

  32. YES , get new capacitors asap , the capacitors are 45 years old , my 79 Cornwalls crossovers were off specs 15 years ago with visually non leaking oil capacitors which really means nothing , the term leakage is ESR loss , an ESR meter can measure the ESR loss . the 45 year old capacitors are no longer filtering the unwanted frequencies and that puts the Original HF and MIDS driver diaphragms at risk of being damaged ,

  35. I run my centers through an amp hooked up to the Marantz since the center only has one output. I just moved the RF 82II's to the center position because they're less Bassy. The sound is dead center from the Klipsch as center. Sounds a Lot better than a Center Speaker also.

  37. The silver one I can read is a 40 microfarad non-polarized electrolytic. It says 110 volt but that is overkill for a speaker, you could get by with a lesser voltage rated one but keep the 40 microfarads the same. I can't make out the silver one on the right from your shot but it looks like an electrolytic as well. I would just replace those two first and see if it sounds better. Electrolytics are the ones that dry out and go out of spec. The other yellow ones are mylar or film caps and are PROBABLY OK.

  39. this have been my conclusion after listening to them before I dissembled them some days ago First of all, they have been running non-stop for two weeks . Sometimes via streaming, sometimes SACD, sometimes vinyl. The KG 3.5 has a sensivity of 94 dB at a FQ of 36 Hz to 20 KHz. I do not have to cranck it before it opens completely and everything is " there " . So from 65 dB sound pressure it fills the large room with a very open clearly structured stage. At higher levels, from 80 dB is here really the "hell" going on, impressive ! The KG 3.5 is very homogeneously tuned, the horn plays silky and crystal clear. They draw high resolution but just never "annoying. Weasel-quick is the emotional musical flow , with wonderfully localized voices. Piano passages make me think ..they are so so beautiful, fascinating ! Wind instruments...I hear the "blowing" of the mouthpieces, classical instruments are authentic in reproduction, really graceful to me. Everything comes very very smoothly as well as with a good portion of "emotion",amazing ! There is no "hole" in the FQ of 36 Hz > 20 KHz. Treble, brilliance, presence, midrange, midbass, upper bass, lower bass ..everything fits, meshes, sophisticated ! Subbass punch ? They have, the pitches are just right..stunning ! They are "all-round" flawlessly play through any genre. She wants you to listen to her ! They manage to take you on their musical journey. You don't get tired of them either...new tune = new attention to their performance...unusual ! Well..okay they get playback equipment in the 10 K€ league each , not depending as I run them with Hybrid Mode ( Tubepre with SS powerstage or Transistor Pre with Tubemonos , or Tubepre with Tubemonos, or as Transitor Pre > SS powerstage ) That probably plays an important role behind the scenes, but it challange them and just gets everything out of them. The harmony between electronics and KG 3.5 fits apparently in these combinations from the beginning, endlessly harmony !
