  2. For more than twenty years I’ve belonged to these Klipsch forums. I presently own four pairs of Klipsch speakers. Before and while being a forum member I’ve owned Khorns, Cornwalls, La Scalas, Belles, and innumerable Heresy variants. I’ve restored La Scalas and Heresys for the band rooms of a local high school and a local middle school. Thousands of young musicians have been exposed to the clean low distortion high output sound of Klipsch. None of that would have happened without the Klipsch forums. More important, none of it would have happened if the forums then had been like the forums are now. Apparently, it’s a sacrilege that I refreshed the La Salas’ crossovers with parts that we’re not from Klipsch, or that I modified the bass bins with reinforcement to address a known sidewall flexing issue. I met many friends through the forum. My DIY tapped horn subs were brought to my attention by a post from Carl @CECAA850. My “Supered” HIPs were modified into existence with the assistance of Claude @ClaudeJ1. Countless other friendships started here. I sold a Harman Kardon receiver to Bruce @Marvel. Another member, whose name escapes me but the gratitude remains, sent a Dual turntable to play 78s. Sadly, many of those members have drifted away from this platform. I just donated $60 to the Klipsch Heritage Museum Association to pay it forward for the kindness of @billybob, who sent me an equalizer so that I could play 78s. To the best of my knowledge, Klipsch does not make such equalizers. I’ve been an ambassador for Klipsch since the 70s . The forum in the days when the mention of a non-Klipsch product was tolerated was a welcoming place. Unfortunately, that is no longer true. I’ve lost track of the number of Klipsch products friends and family have chosen upon my recommendations. Clearly Klipsch can do as it chooses with its forums. If the mention of things other than Klipsch is precluded, then my interest in following the Klipsch forums is greatly diminished. The phrase, “biting of your nose to spite your face” comes to mind. Is Klipsch in danger of losing more business by driving away me and others, or by allowing the mention of things non-Klipsch? I suggest alienating long term members is more problematic than any perceived “competition” from the mention of non-Klipsch modifications. Ultimately, it’s up to Roy @Chief bonehead, and others at Klipsch, whether to allow the forum to return to its former collegial atmosphere or to continue on the off-putting parochial path it appears to prefer. Change is inevitable and usually resisted. In my opinion, unnecessary changes have made this a less desirable neighborhood. It does no good to tell me and others that we’re wrong to feel alienated. Whether or not that is the intention, that is how I feel Peace! Neil YMMV

  3. This is a tough one to post. I need some space and some funds for a project. JC built all these and they are all amazing I have tons of hours on these and have had them for many years in multiple configurations. I don't want to part with them but they need to sing and I need a little cash. Pair Tractrix horns 60hz-600hz straight. Black needs a fresh coat of paint and some clean up. There is a crushed corner on the dog house but it came like that I never fixed it. These come with four Eminence Delta Pro-12A 12" Cast Frame drivers. These horns sound amazing..... Pair Snail Horns you can load these with anything from 12" to 18" woofers. These come with four Klipsch K31 drivers. Pretty low up to about 300-350hz Pair of mid Tractrix Horns no drivers and need to do your own mounting plate. I have 4 different mounting adapters you can have two jbl and two not sure but could be helpful. I have a pair of round tractrix tweeters but they are offered to a local diyer for free. If he turns them down I'll offer them for free as well. 6 horns 8 drivers $1000 for all of it and They are dusty and need cleaning up I just didn't have time. Pickup only Little Rock

  4. Mike, I should have mentioned you by name. The only excuse is that friends on this forum are too numerous to mention each one. Neil

  5. - like what the forum has become much ado about nothing. The days of pre-Pilgramage aka ‘the farmhouse” gatherings, Amy and the early vestiges of the forum are a thing of the past, long gone but not forgotten by those of us who were there. And no things ain’t the same no way no how. But damn, I still slept like a baby last night -

  7. Before todays disassembling they were playing close to 48 hours Non-Stop with my Cayin Monotubes GU29 Doubble Tetrodes ( 50W/8Ohm ) as well as the Transistor Pre Amplifier Marantz PM11-S3 . After the last works were finised I put an electronic CD from the swiss Duo " Yello " into my SACDP ( Marantz SA11-S3 ) I cranked it up to 75 dB . What to say after all these works inkl. the X-Over Resaturation. The only " mod " I did were the by-passed caps with silvermicas . If you gonna cloes your eyes you won´t believe that such little speaker can perform on this level, far over of my personal expectaions. An room filling 3-D Soundstage, a perfect Resolution, tonal so well balanced, silky warm Hights, Brilliance and Mids. An unbelievable dry Midbass, upper Bass > Bass > Subbass they can punsch so powerfull . They haven´t played on this perfect level before the restauration , they had an impressive sound before , but can´t be compared in view to all audible aspects after it´s restauration . You ask me if it´s worth to do these works on these vintage speakers , without any doubts I can recommend everybody to make the efforts and to invest the bucks into them. This investment isn´t in relation to the result . Speakers with such an audio performance will cost easily more the 3 K $ / € today. So far my first impressions ......

  8. For whatever reason it really bummed me out about Jeff passing on. Many of us grew up with these musicians and to me they are almost like kin folk. I saw Jeff with "The British are Coming" in the early 80's in Dallas. A great chance to see some heros even if in a non audiophile setting. BBA is my all time favorite stuff, but Blow by Blow and Wired were right with it. Then the whammy bar thing and I lost interest for years. As videos became common place it kind of rekindled my interest. He was a Great guitarist, very unique, a bit weird and very moody by all accounts. Hey..nobody is perfect. By the end of this decade most of my musical heros will be gone, me too maybe. That era will be the GOLDEN age of guitar and Rock and will NEVER be repeated or equaled in 1000 years. So...for the next millennium mostly crap that acts like it's music, with an occasional homage to greatness by a few talented historians.

  11. Jim from JEM is also very knowledgeable and helpful. We speak regularly and he’s done a great job updating his page with some of the more relevant things we’ve talked about. The AL looks intimidating but it’s really not that bad. Two 4’s will be paralleled for the 8uF, and I found 15uF polyester at Solen that can be paralleled for the 30uF. I actually don’t see the issue with an electrolytic here, since Klipsch used them in the AL-3. I would personally use the AL-3 in place of the AL, since the AL, like the AK-2 - was part of the EV mixup and is improperly balanced. EDIT: I forgot to add that since JEM is an authorized Klipsch dealer, they also sell replacement diaphragms for the K-77.

  12. Thanks George, had totaly lost track of the fact that make cable yourself. I have been thinking of making power-cords before, I did make my own speaker cables, but they don´t look as good as Yours... RCA I want to use to connect my CD player to the Kenwood. Phono cables are an option for later, when other things are done, I need space first, shelves!! 😉

  18. Once you get away from labeling the taps "db", it becomes clearer. Each tap connects to a specific winding of the autoformer. The ratio of the input connection to the output connection dictates the voltage change. On a T2A, the ratio of taps 4 - 0 to 5 - 0 is .68, so the output voltage is 68% of the input voltage, or -3.35db. There is no reason why one can't connect the input to 5 - 1 (75% of the windings) and the output to 4 - 1 (43% of the windings). .43 / .75 = .573, so the output voltage is 57.3% of the input voltage, or -4.84db. Since the T2A exposes only four of the internal windings, the number of input to output ratios is limited. The other autoformers allow access to more windings, and therefore allow for more input to output ratios. Yes you can swap any autoformer with any other autoformer on your crossover, as long as you realize that each will have unique attenuation possibilities. Mike

  20. YUMMY! Vegetables can be made into great entrees sometimes! Guess you were talking about the other kind of gardening the other day. Got weed(s)? Or maybe flowers. Way over here it's mid March at the earliest when we can do veggie seeds.

  21. fresh basil. tomato, S&P, oregano, cumin, parsley a little too early for gardening, yet. We're gonna see low 20's. It's tough here. Too warm and too cold in the same day. When we get passed hard freezes, it will be hitting 80 during the day cilantro does handle the cold. It can frost and roar back. I like buttercrunch lettuce. Doesn't get bitter with the heat. I come from the part of the country that eats the other end of the turnip. LOL

  22. Sounds nice Willie, sure there's tomatos & basil too! You got your greens in the ground already? It was the red sails lettuce and the turnip greens I always put in the ground first.

  24. Thank you sooooo much! You know, I thought from reading here that this group is a veritable treasure trove of knowledge, and the four of you have just proved it! And so kind, thoughtful, and helpful too - wow! I reallly appreciate it a lot! I do have two pairs of older Klipsch speakers as well and once I get them moved home, I will definitely take some photos and seek your expertise again. All I know about them really is that my husband had them for a very long time, at least since I first met him which was almost 40 years ago; one pair are in very large rectangular cabinets, all black; the other pair are smaller, corner shaped, all black. I believe my husband referred to those as Klipschorns (which I used to think was two words, 'Klipsch Horns") and his band used them on stage. He also referred to one set as "Klipsch monitors" and I have no idea what that means either. Anyway, I won't bore you with my ignorance as I realize that you will need to see pictures to tell what they are. I'm just rambling down memory lane here, sorry; there are lots of great memories wrapped up in these old beauties. 🙂

  26. @Dave1291 we're in a 50s rut with rain, fog and just wet air. Dreary after most of a month like that. That's why I started with the blues this morning, feeling that way. The good beans do break that though!

  27. Well said Neil (and others). It used to be a "community". Like minded people helping each other with our little hobby (loving our Klipsch speakers) Now its google info answers instead of real world experiences. Met many good guys here, had several to my shop. Time marches on. Just disappointed to loose what was a good place to visit. Even more disappointed that Neil didn't mention me in the OP, but hey.....

  29. Hello. New here. I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I recently came into possession of a pair of vintage Heresy I speakers, new in box. Never used. They are a sequential set as far as serial #'s. They have a build date of 1980. I'm considering/leaning toward keeping them for myself. I'm no audiophile, but I would find the best way to use them. I may also consider selling them. Any idea what these might be worth in the open market? Again, they are sealed in original packaging. Never used. I was the first to open the boxes just to look at the serial #'s. Thanks!

  30. Hello!, I picked up a pair of Quartets that were black. The black finish has some blemishes and after removing some paint fr0m the bottom, discovered that the veneer was a dark stained (appears to be) walnut. The seller was the original owner, the tags indicate a black finish, did Klipsch paint these black due to imperfections in the veneer when manufactured? I was surprised and very happy! Thanks for any information you may have. Cheers,

  31. What should one expect to pay for a pair of SH's on the used market, and where does one search? I rarely see them in the wild. These are the only thing I'd conceivably buy to supplant my LS bass bins + AMT's.

  32. I sold my LS2s to a guy in Cape Coral. These you shared are in St Pete so damn I may have to buy them. I also have that single in St Pete. ALSO I sold a single to @Youthman which while not there it was on the way..... I do believe the single will be retrieved at the end of this month and brought back to Charleston where @Peacemakerwill grab it

  34. Ed, your aluminum La Scalas with the AL crossovers are the “Industrial” version, LSI (La Scala Industrial). They should have a different woofer than the others, the K-43. I quite prefer the K-43 in a LaScala. It’s all that and a bag of chips in this application. You could quite easily do an apples to apples comparison with your windfall. Take a pair of AAs from two of your non industrials and swap them into the LSIs. Run a pair of each, regular and industrial , with the AAs for a while with familiar music and see which sounds better, apples to apples. When you have decided, throw the ALs back in the LSIs and see if it appeals to you. The AA crossover is a benchmark.

  36. Lost track of these guys way back, their opening band... this was Great White before. But these guys were a powerhouse when they were one of the first ten acts in the new coliseum back home. Frank Sinatra was the first concert there, AC⚡DC were the first rock show... they were different, Brian singing, think it was "Fly on the Wall". This one wasn't out yet!

  45. I've considered it, but I think that actually puts a lot more potential work for mods and myself. Spammers come and go in waves, but real people sign up and post here every day. Many other forums have dozens of moderators. We have a handful, yet probably proportionate to our active member base.
