  3. Gosh we are losing great musicians left and right... I was fortunate to have been able to see him with CSN, CN, and just him. I'll be playing Four Way Street later tonight for sure. He was exceptional on that live recording. This was a really well recorded, solo album. David Crosby- Croz.

  6. Back in 2006, I bought a pair of used La Scalas, speakers that I had aspired to own for many years. I found that the sound wasn’t quite what I expected, a bit too “shouty”, to be exact. I did a mod of my own that fixed that. A month later, I discovered the Forum, and that was a happy day! I read it almost daily, and still do, these many years later. Within two years, based on what I read on the Forum, I bought two pairs of Heresy IIs. A few years after that, I saw a pair of La Scala IIs for sale in the Garage Sale section, and happily travelled to the mainland to bring them home. That makes three pairs of speakers that I would have neither heard of nor been motivated to buy without the Forum. That may be a piddling amount of sales in the big picture, but not to me. Thanks to the Forum, a member saw my mention that one pair of Heresy IIs wasn’t getting any use, so I might sell them. A couple of weeks later, he was on his way back to his home farther north on Vancouver Island with his new acquisitions, and a few days later I got a message that he “was in Heaven when I listen to these speakers”. Of course, that’s just an anecdotal story. That’s only half the story. As I’ve described here more than once, I went on to put together a pair of JubScalas, a speaker configuration first put together by Roy himself. I’m listening to them as I type this, and they still put a smile on my face. If it wasn’t for the freewheeling discussions on here, they would likely never even happened in the first place, much less a pair end up in my living room. Yes, there are grey areas, and there sometimes are mentions of modded speakers that come across as “the way the speakers should have been built in the first place”, which certainly can’t go over well with Roy, after he has spent months or even years to get a model of speaker sounding really good, within the constraints of cost, build time and difficulty, and final price. Custom speakers that are built without those constraints are not a fair comparison with production speakers and should never be seen that way. Another point is the upgrade kits. These are a great idea that should get more publicity, since things like that, which increase an owner’s participation in his or her own speakers, can make a fan into a super-fan for life. Did the Forum veer so far from its original purpose that it was necessary to eliminate and prohibit any mention of 3rd party components? While it’s great to have Jem and Soldermeister providing the ability to restore vintage speakers to their original performance, did that suddenly make the small operations that provided parts and advice to Heritage owners completely redundant and unneeded? I’m not so sure. The enthusiasm they generated was as important as the speakers that they brought back to life, and that should be respected, not tossed aside now that KGI has its own subcontractors. This is just my opinion. I miss hearing from the members who felt driven away by the new policies. I don’t see the place as being improved, although that seems to be the intent of the new policies.

  7. I'm just kicked back. It'll sort. Maybe. LONG week! Sad! If I Could Only Remember My Name is the debut solo album by American singer-songwriter David Crosby, released in February 1971 on Atlantic Records. The guest musicians on the album included Graham Nash, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and members of Jefferson Airplane, Santana, and the Grateful Dead.

  12. Bottom line, if you want to talk about mods and your own “upgrades” then please go somewhere else. There are plenty of other sites. By the way I read the posts on other sites so I see the complaining. there should have never been a “modification” section on the forum. Back when a forum was being discussed, I strongly opposed it. Paul W Klipsch was NOT in favor of modding his speakers and I wanted to make sure that a forum bearing his name would not have a “modification” section. I know that the forum went ahead with the “modification” section but here recently, this has gotten out of hand. So if you don’t agree with this, sorry. Mods and so called upgrades are not allowed on the klipsch forum anymore. I’m locking the thread and please don’t start other threads on this.

  17. The two posts by @Travis In Austin make it clear, as we all knew, that the forum is untenable. You cannot promote “free” speech discussions in an OEM controlled forum while protecting IP, trademarks, goodwill etc for the manufacturer’s products. Nor should the OEM do so for a forum so dominated by people who provide such a small revenue stream. post a shutdown date, and turn off the lights. Thanks to one and all, I’ve learned a lot.

  19. Yes, we all do collectively, but not in the way many think they add value. To KGI. I agree Jeff, that in terms of revenue value/sales, the Forum has diminished significantly with YouTube audio channels, social media, face book, etc. There is little value. But there is an intrinsic value to KGI that people overlook. The Forum, give or take, is about 80% Heritage based or related (strictly an educated guess, no hard data). This includes Heritage owners talking about the music they play, the books they read, etc. It’s probably even higher, but I’m not going to go through equipment profiles. Heritage is less than 5% of sales of Klipsch. While every manufacturer appreciates word of mouth advertising, and favorable testimonials, in terms of the Forum they don’t view it as an advertising/sales segment. KGI does appreciate its FANS, and are very proud they have a fan base like none other in the audio industry. I’m aware there are Carver camps and Carver Forum, and some others, but nothing to this extent. Certainly nothing for a speaker manufacturer. The Forum is simply a place for Klipsch Enthusiasts to meet. That’s it. There are probably as many different reasons why people are here as there are fans. To learn, history, equipment synergy, restoration, good LP recommendations, buying and selling, news on meet ups and a hundred more. As you pointed out, there are limits about what a respectable company can allow on a company sponsored forum. There was an area for politics, but things got sideways a little and it was no more and then it drifted into the public forums and that had to be dealt with. Some left (either announced or simply quit posting) because of that - they were used to coming here regularly to discuss those topics and now they couldn’t. Those types discussions were not just of zero value to KGI, they were a negative value. Recently there was a shift away from DIY, mods, clones, “mods” topics to simply technical questions and restoration type topics. For the diehard DIY builders (Klipsch inspired or not) that was going to be upsetting. Some left to DIY audio related forums or other audio forums, which is fine. Many participate in both. What’s surprising is that they think their latest greatest DIY speaker project is of some value to KGI. Or that it fulfills the KGI mission of providing a place for Klipsch fans to meet and exchange ideas. It does neither. If someone what’s to build a LS, Khorn whatever inspired speaker, they should post about it in a Forum dedicated for that purpose. If someone wants to chop up their latest garage sale find and put in new horns, drivers XO’s from other vendors (I call them peddlers), they should go to forums for that, or better yet, those peddlers should create forums or FB pages for people who have questions about their products, services. or whatever it is they are selling. It doesn’t further the interests of Klipsch Fans as a whole, and obviously doesn’t provide any value to KGI.

  20. A really big shout out to nickyboy6100. He was gracious enough to part with a set of upgraded La Scalas. My husband has been really enjoying them... Let me go way back...I saw Floyd in Concert at the Milwaukee County Stadium...last minute tickets...it was raining...we got there just as the bands were changing...'seated' on the concrete steps (yeah security made us move a number of times)...but under the overhang...facing center stage...concert was late starting because of the downpours...when they came on stage they started with the not yet released 'Shine on you Crazy Diamond'..when those four solo guitar notes were played the world stopped. Stadium was sooo quite... Then those drums...--after playing that album, they then played the Dark side album--- When they got to the line 'see you on the dark side of the moon' the clouds parted..there was a just risen full moon...centered over the venue ....seriously I hope to never forget that memory. Nickyboy6100..I thank you from the bottom of my heart, as I just listened to "Shine On" on the La Scalas....brought it all back--goosebumps.

  21. For more than twenty years I’ve belonged to these Klipsch forums. I presently own four pairs of Klipsch speakers. Before and while being a forum member I’ve owned Khorns, Cornwalls, La Scalas, Belles, and innumerable Heresy variants. I’ve restored La Scalas and Heresys for the band rooms of a local high school and a local middle school. Thousands of young musicians have been exposed to the clean low distortion high output sound of Klipsch. None of that would have happened without the Klipsch forums. More important, none of it would have happened if the forums then had been like the forums are now. Apparently, it’s a sacrilege that I refreshed the La Salas’ crossovers with parts that we’re not from Klipsch, or that I modified the bass bins with reinforcement to address a known sidewall flexing issue. I met many friends through the forum. My DIY tapped horn subs were brought to my attention by a post from Carl @CECAA850. My “Supered” HIPs were modified into existence with the assistance of Claude @ClaudeJ1. Countless other friendships started here. I sold a Harman Kardon receiver to Bruce @Marvel. Another member, whose name escapes me but the gratitude remains, sent a Dual turntable to play 78s. Sadly, many of those members have drifted away from this platform. I just donated $60 to the Klipsch Heritage Museum Association to pay it forward for the kindness of @billybob, who sent me an equalizer so that I could play 78s. To the best of my knowledge, Klipsch does not make such equalizers. I’ve been an ambassador for Klipsch since the 70s . The forum in the days when the mention of a non-Klipsch product was tolerated was a welcoming place. Unfortunately, that is no longer true. I’ve lost track of the number of Klipsch products friends and family have chosen upon my recommendations. Clearly Klipsch can do as it chooses with its forums. If the mention of things other than Klipsch is precluded, then my interest in following the Klipsch forums is greatly diminished. The phrase, “biting of your nose to spite your face” comes to mind. Is Klipsch in danger of losing more business by driving away me and others, or by allowing the mention of things non-Klipsch? I suggest alienating long term members is more problematic than any perceived “competition” from the mention of non-Klipsch modifications. Ultimately, it’s up to Roy @Chief bonehead, and others at Klipsch, whether to allow the forum to return to its former collegial atmosphere or to continue on the off-putting parochial path it appears to prefer. Change is inevitable and usually resisted. In my opinion, unnecessary changes have made this a less desirable neighborhood. It does no good to tell me and others that we’re wrong to feel alienated. Whether or not that is the intention, that is how I feel Peace! Neil YMMV

  22. Precisely, which is exactly what I said. what you quoted I said in your reply was in the context of a Garage Sale ad for “Klipschorns” in the title. I got mail from a couple of folks who were upset that the title got changed because they had non-Klipsch components which wasn’t the case. The issue on that ad, and a dozen more just like it over the past several years, was never the patents, it was listing something using the registered trademark name, Klipschorn or Khorns for sale that are “home built”. It doesn’t matter who built them, a former Klipsch employee, a master woodworker in Texas, or Joe Smith in his garage. You can’t use a registered trademark to describe them. I left the ad up, caught flack from members for doing that. But Garage Sale is a unique issue and I will work on getting that clearer. I’m also going to push for Garage Sale being for “active”’ members, as opposed to first time posters (about 3 to 5 a month). As a professional photographer you understand the importance of IP like copyright, and trademarks are just as important, but others see no harm is using trademarked names, or combinations thereof, or making copies of currently patented products (the simple act of making a copy is infringement, doesn’t matter if you never intend to sell it). PWK could call anything he wanted to call with his trademarks, and Roy can as well (JubeScala). Joe Blow can’t. There are dozens of working titles, Montagators, etc. that Klipsch used for products. Again, I will work on some suggested language to clear some of these things up. I have to make things easy for them to say yes or no. Sometimes they don’t understand that things are not so black and white, when it something a modification, a copy, an update, an upgrade, a restoration, etc., etc. I’m also going to work on creating an archived area for threads going back 20 years that might not currently be Kosher but contain a wealth of information so that if someone is discussing a DIY project in DIY Audio for example, they can do a link to the thread, or they can PM the people in the thread. It involves significant work for that to happen so that will take time. That area would not allow for additional posts, but the info would be preserved forever. This week I got first time post requests for mod project questions that were a couple of years old. It makes it impossible to transition from what was okay many years ago to what might not be okay now. What has happened over the last 5 years is that using a search on various browsers pick up significantly more Forum posts. People who are not members who have no context about different posting rules/policies come in and ask innocent questions in discussions/topics that are no longer welcome. As you say, we will keep moving forward and improving for all enthusiasts.

  28. Nooooooo! I've been on here more than twenty years and I'm still learning things about Klipsch and Klipsch products. This place is a veritable database of info, a lot of which you can't find in the regular Klipsch online presence. Sure things are sometimes labeled incorrectly, given wrong info but there is also help given to folks that they sometimes can't get when they call Klipsch support. We do have goofballs on here as well. A small price to pay. I might be one of them...

  29. Hate to say this but, all the advertising in the world has not stopped the word of mouth referral on this forum. That is one. Another is, all the advertising globally has not stopped the new and foreign traffic of new members that come everyday looking for speakers to purchase with questions about which speaker, in their particular setting and circumstance. Be it Heritage, Pro, and HT. Whether they do online order or dealer, we facilitate sales period. We meet, greet and, make a substantial bottom line benefit to KGI. If this isn't the case above and beyond the other problems in setting up an troubleshooting, etc., then why have we been spinning our wheels for good corporate will towards the Klipsch brand, in the second place. No one but customers and fellow members have said thanks. Even helping out during covid, especially. No, sorry but, respectfully disagree. Could go on yet, what is the point.

  35. Reality TV isn’t real. As long as there is a separate film crew then I don’t buy into it ever being that remote. A friend of mine won an episode of History Channels show Forged in Fire a while back. While he did forge the winning sword, he said the way the whole thing is presented and the editing really hypes stuff up in a way that ignores reality, lots of fake bleeped words etc. One of the former judges from the show is also a distant acquaintance and he’s stated that he won’t go back to the show because of all the “reality tv BS” that goes on.

  36. It was the 3rd party peddlers who started getting into the speaker business. Some even used Klipsch derived trademarked names for their speaker names. Last year the culture with regard to peddlers became divisive. Remember that word, divisive. It defeats the primary purpose f the Forum, a friendly place for enthusiasts to gather. I am a pretty simple guy, if a peddler is causing factions and divisions, remove the peddler from the equation. The audacity of Klipsch to consider the peddlers’ involvement, mention, discussions unwelcome on their Forum. It goes back over 20 years. It was just the way it was addressed has changed. (I’m a stickler about it and handle it proactively. I don’t wait for it to simmer or fester, I nip it. Occasionally I ask for clarification from Chad, Roy, others, but haven’t needed to for 4 or 5’years). I have been working on changing the name of Technical to remove “mods”’for 3 years, but Covid hit, etc. So blame me for that transition. When Roy got more active in moderation a couple of years ago he started to see the amount of utter bullshit being tossed. Around that coincided with a dealer complaining about the sound of a 3rd party cap supplier/speaker peddler’s kit changing the sound. That brought back authorized cap kits, and crossover rebuilds. Then the games, a race to post a link to JEM, Dean or a peddler. Like this is a place shill peddlers. I just started deleting the gratuitous peddler posts. Again, blame me. I have seen posts on here Re the changes that say it’s Voxx, it’s Corporate, it’s bean counters, it’s Roy. Nope, it’s one guy with a little knowledge of IP, r&d costs and how they need to be amortized for a company to survive, sticking to the primary goal of making this a warm friendly place for enthusiasts simply calling balls and strikes the best he can and passing major calls to Chad and Roy for feedback All that being said, I have always welcomed input. I get 10 to 20’ PMs a week regarding the Forum related to policy,’terms of service, etc. There are about 20 here who will reach out with suggestions, thoughts, impressions or questions on why this or why that. I respond to each and every one. Sometimes the response is they totally agree, sometimes they adamantly disagree, respectfully. Where it’s uncharted territory I always bring in a KGI person so it’s not just my point of view (which I known is heavily biased and so I account for that). Regardless of the outcome, invariably a myth or misconception that is floating in the Forum ether is corrected and/or a note of thanks for responding. The Forum has been in existence for so long there there is now Forum Folklore that has emerged. You will see one of those folktales corrected in my next post. It’s common and natural for the folklore to develop because 1) we all have cognitive bias, we see what our brains want to see and filter out the rest (this is hardwired into our brains for survival, all we can do is be aware of it and actively seek to minimize it). The other is 2) the historical point in which people enter the Forum (or how far back they can actively recall past events in the Forum. So yeah, when 3rd party peddlers started getting into the speaker building business it diverts, substantially, from the original primary purpose.

  40. This, in a nutshell, is why I joined this forum. I want to be able to converse with others who share my interests and learn from veterans and newbies alike. I want to be around people who's eyes don't glaze over when I start to talk about a Class A amp or what tweaks I've been making to my speaker placement. Maybe I jumped in a little too fast and too deep spending hours a day here. I got a bit burned out with controversy and bickering so I've taken a break, but I sincerely hope the forum survives for a long, long time. I've met people here that I really enjoy. I've also encountered some major jerks. Adding some of the most offensive to my Ignore list has helped. All this to say, if there is anything I can do to help the forum survive and thrive, let me know.

Every bar has a sound system of some degree, but nothing in the ten years (at that time) caught my ears like that. And this forum has been a roadmap ever since.
