  1. Hi, A new diamond on my VM700, the 50SH replaces the 40ML to make an Audio Technica VM750SH, I bought it from our German friends at HiFi Phono House (very good price for Europeans). The result is superb, with nice deep bass and a very nice midrange. I will be able to enjoy a lot of beautiful vinyl records. Good listening friends https://www.hifi-phono-house.de/ Before After nb: @Mossy bottom I have been looking for this Horace Silver with this beautiful Japanese cover for some time at my house at a good price at Rat Pak Records

  9. When there seems to be misunderstandings here, and if those here truly value each other and the possibility of friendly interaction and understanding, then I highly recommend communicating via private messages. Why not? Preconceived notions can be confirmed or discarded and greater understanding result. Or does that just piss people off?

  10. I was lucky enough to find a beautiful pair of '76 Cornwall 1s -- walnut finish with very few scratches/dings given the age. The insides are absolutely pristine -- look like they've never been opened before. Drives are alnico K-77 (round), K-55-V, and K33-E with a B crossover. Caps are the oil can type. In reading about the B vs B-2, it seems the reason for the change to the B-2 was associated with the change from the K-77 to the K-77-M tweeter. @Deang -- I've seen comments where you prefer the B-2 crossover and recommend going to that whenever possible. Is the B-2 appropriate with the alnico K-77 tweeter?

  11. Let me start with the disclaimer that I agree with your statement. That said, here we are on a forum that has seen long discussions about the sonic signatures not only of different capacitor dielectric materials, but of different capacitor manufacturers using the same dielectric materials. In that context, we are now dismissing as "negligible" the measurable distortion, not to mention the change in inductance, resulting from an iron bolt inserted into the magnetic field of an air-core inductor. I just sit back and grin. We audiophiles are an amusing bunch. And please take this comment in the light-hearted nature with which it was written.

  15. Stay out of this thread, do not post in here again. I and others said exactly that 20 posts ago. Since you are quite adept at googling stuff as you go along, take the time, instead of posting in this thread, to research what austenitic stainless steel is. You are spinning in circles and not taking the time to read and understand what others are saying and talking past people who are seriously trying to figure out something and learn. This is called listening and you need to start doing that, it's just good plain forum etiquette.

  18. I make my living turning wrenches. Have off and on for going on 40 years in one way or another. These days things tend to be easier to actually work on albeit far more complicated. No matter what some things have always been a tad fiddly to get back together properly. Just 'cause it bolts up and looks OK doesn't mean it's right. Manufacturers are actually making low maintenance a feature. That being said I am loathe to work on my own junk these days. I resist making modifications and spend more up front to get what I want in the first place. Can ya tell I gotta pull the Harley in for a tire today?

  19. Recapped the first AA crossover with parts ordered from Jim from JEM per advice form this thread. . First, a shout out to JEM. Ordered on kits Friday, received them on Saturday. VERY Securely Packaged. Can't say enough good about the entire transaction with JEM. Clear and concise instructions were provided. PLUS a "call if you cannot figure it out or have problems phone number". Cool. Installed the caps. My three cans were a tiny but damp on top, but not leaking. Measuring the uF, they were actually not that far off. Maybe .3 uF on each. In any case, fired two up (one with new caps AND a stainless steel crew in the inductor) and a stock uncapped one. Results: The recapped speaker (WITH the stainless steel inductor screw in place) is noticeably brighter sounding. Not 'trebly', but more of a crisper, cleaner sound. Will do the other xover in the next couple day and then do the screw swaps. Will advise if any improvement/detraction is noted with various screws.

  24. A little over a year ago I bought a JWN (Jim Nicholls) 6L6 P/P Tetrode amplifier that was listed as for parts/repair because of a buzz, I passed it on to a friend, he put the amp on a shelf and for various reasons never got to it. Thursday night I got it back and was looking it over and noticed there was a broken tube guide in the 6SN7 tube socket that was caught by the input wires and a resistor lead. With the amp upside down and using needle nose pliers I was able to get it to fall down through the socket. Could something as simple as that have been the problem? I decided to find out the quick way, put the tubes in and fired it up in a makeshift system with test (don't care if they blow up) drivers. After passing music with no issues, I hooked up some good speakers and have been enjoying the music.

  28. Back to screws used in AA networks again. Circles around regularly on the forum. The truth is the difference between ferrous and non-ferrous screw in circuit is not enough to really be a serious concern. Probably the real reason steel was used was when there was a supply problem with the brass screw. Leave be or replace if concerned engineers did not know what they were doing. As far as iron core saturation, will not ever be a problem in a Klipsch designed crossover. Iron core is plenty good enough, at least true electronic engineers believe so. Design of an electronic component is far more important than resorting to expensive non-needed parts for improvement. What many call improvement is just different sounding. Bench testing with someone that knows what they are doing is the only true test. That and listening panel with trained ears. But back to OP finding LaScala's. Great score. Replace what needs replacing and leave rest alone for now.

  32. My inductance meter reads .34mH with ferrous screw. BEC (may he rest in peace) measured .35mH. A 40% increase in the inductance (.245mH to .34mH) which in turn models a response curve that gives a drop in the K77 crossover point from about 5800Hz to roughly 4800Hz. Just looking at the numbers, it would be quite reasonable to assume one could hear a difference, even if it is being caused by an unorthodox ferrous core. Anyway, to each his own. I truly was just trying to help out. P.S. I read the linked thread above. BEC ran some curves and found the ferrous screw flattened the response by cutting the lower end of the response by 4dB (there was a mild peak there). I would like to see the anechoic curves.

  37. I watched a Mick Dodge.... roughing it on the Olympic Peninsula [WA]. He went night fishing for salmon. He caught one, of course.... it came out of the water gutted and gilled. most of the drama is made for tv. It eclipsed fresh this AM.... Accuweather said 21`F. I don't know where the get their readings, but, it is usually 5 - 10` higher than here. It did make 53`....still cold for us. Average is 65 - 70.. I hate cold boy is still working on his water pump. He did find the hole for the extra bolt. It was to the alternator bracket. Now he's working on coolant leaking from hose connections.
