  1. In Barrie, a town 80 km/50 miles north of Toronto, ice fishing is very popular. Once the lake (Lake Simcoe) freezes deeply enough to be safe, the town drags an old car onto the ice not far from the docks. Then the ice fishing season begins. It lasts until the Spring, when the ice thins and softens, and the old car falls through the ice. That marks the end of ice fishing season. People can actually be heard asking, "Did the car fall through yet?", since it marks the unofficial start to Spring. That's how I remember it from many years ago. Anyone from Barrie who knows whether that info is out of date is welcome to correct me.

  5. Sorry for not posting here in such a long time, but I do stop by and observe the spins and banter . Tonight, (Tuesday in the States), is Telarc Tuesday over in RTM. I decided to dig out this wonderful RE-release on 200 gram vinyl pressed by 'Quality Pressings'. This one has the REAL CANNONS, and I was curious to see if the new Ortofon M2 Blue could keep up with those menacing grooves! Well, it was a challenge for sure. The tone arm at worse was bounced OUT of the grooves and into a few seconds further into the recording where it landed on more of the cannons' volley!! Skipped and bounced a bit more. Oh well, the finest turntables back in the day did not far any better when this was originally released back in 1979! You can read all about the history of that. There are a few videos I have found that show the whole tone are wiggling right to left trying to keep up . Anyway, here are some photos of 1 of 1000 released in 2012.

  6. Thanks for this. I was one of TWO keyboardists in a 9 piece Neil Diamond show band! The band was retired in 2020 when we lost all our shows due to Covid, and the lead vocalist decided to retire the band. I was with them for 15 out of the 20 year run ! The most exciting adventure was getting an all expenses paid trip to Vegas as the backing band to some 13 Neil Diamond singers from all over the world ! We actually had 4 of Neil's musicians on our stage joining us for the conclusion of the concert! Two of which are on that album you just played!! Fun times.

  8. Good stuff in here! @GWSmith I've seen that Quality Recordings sticker on my "Analogue Recordings" exceptional soundings LPs. @MeloManiac nice try. I can't get photos of individual flakes falling with my phone camera. Never think to dial in the settings. Need to try my old Fuji 35mm! Ride Safe! @AndreG. That's the Best Of AC/DC music/lyrics and sonically. If that LP won't let you crank it up all the way because of it's sound and you love it like most AC/DC fans do? Get another, even if it's a cd (if) it's done by Albert & Sons AU.

  14. From their debut, yeah. Got that on CD and vinyl now. The LPs cover is beat up, but the black is fine. The "Seventh One" my be a candidate for that glue-treatment. After washing it twice, it still clicks and pops, but you don´t see serious hairlines or scratches. Must be grime deeper in the grooves...

  20. We’ve had some windy weather the past few days. This afternoon I looked across the street and saw this. Something like that. My neighbor is in his 80’s and is half deaf(mostly deaf?)which means he never hears when we call him or knock on his door so I texted his daughter and she said they would check it out. This past weekend my other neighbors sister locked her keys in her house. I was able to grab an extension ladder and find a second story window that was open and break in for her. This evening someone up the street hit one of the bears we’ve been seeing. It totaled their car and killed the bear. Fun times in the neighborhood.

Another couple of times, Harley big with a young lady driving.c#ady as punch at stop light wearing thongs. Thought well, guess it is balance of bike. Both occasions in hilly Tallahassee. Read that main steering bearing all important. Maybe that was it, and experience. Amazing really!

  33. @the real Duke Spinner That's crazy wild. I really don't know what they do around here. I'm an hour from Sandusky but have a lot of friends who live up there. Guy I grew up with retired and became a Charter Captain up there. He told me he booked an entire week last summer for some Japanese company. 50 different guys/10 per day. They limited out in 3 hours on the lake and when they docked they guys all started leaving. He asked if they wanted the fish all together or bagged up for each guy. They looked at him and told him to keep the fish they didn't want them. It was that way every day for 5 days. Guess they just wanted to catch them. Stewart is sounding amazing on this half-speed. Kinda like fishin. Good therapy!

  37. It’s my first time using the gum glue method and it was an easy process I think the trick is to apply liberally so it self levels before setting and it peals off easily It fixed a “new” bad sounding record - so I am happy about that

  39. Being one few members of the tribe here I figured I'd go with a theme. Hopefully not too ribald. Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Cohen had been longtime close friends. But, being old-fashioned, each went to a retirement home of her own respective religion. It was not long before Mrs. Murphy felt lonesome for Mrs. Cohen, so one day she asked to be driven to the Jewish Home to visit her old friend. When she arrived she was greeted with open arms, hugs, and kisses. Mrs. Murphy said, "Don't be holdin' back, Mrs. Cohen, how do you like it here?" Mrs. Cohen went on and on about the wonderful food, the facility and the caretakers. Then, with a twinkle in her eye, she said, "But the best thing is that I now have a boyfriend." Mrs. Murphy said, "Now isn't that wonderful! Tell me all about it." Mrs. Cohen said, "After lunch, we go up to my room and sit on the edge of the bed. I let him touch me on the top, and then on the bottom, and then we sing Jewish songs." Mrs. Murphy said, "For sure it's a blessing. I'm so glad for you, Mrs. Cohen." Mrs. Cohen said, "And how is it with you, Mrs. Murphy?" Mrs. Murphy said it was also wonderful at her new facility, and that she also had a boyfriend. Mrs. Cohen said, "Good for you! So what do you do?" Mrs. Murphy said, "We also go up to my room after lunch and sit on the edge of the bed. I let him touch me on top, and then I let him touch me down below." Mrs. Cohen said, "Yes? And then...?" Mrs. Murphy said, "Well, since we don't know any Jewish songs, we f**k."

  40. If all else to check out failed, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that one of the big PSU electrolytic capacitors might have died. I would have it tested and if you like the sound of the amp very much then such a repair is not an arm and a leg expensive. An indicator of this is sometimes when the hum is exactly an octave above the 60 Hz, 120 Hz. Maybe you used to have low efficiency speakers on the amp and you didn't notice it before?

  41. This is the sweet ES-140. 3/4 Size, with a p90 pup. Body maybe a fraction smaller than a LP, but hollowbody, 3 inches deep. I paid $100 in s pawn shop, complete with brown case and pink lining.

  42. Just a quick post to report back with gum glue record cleaning results So far only did side one to test First - it was easy peasy to remove the dry glue - just like my wife’s face mask Now playing the record and I need to report that it is a success as it’s sounding as it should So my suspicions were correct in thinking that manufacturing crud was embedded deep in the grooves Artist - Mike Oldfield Title - Tubular Bells Album ID - https://www.discogs.com/release/2062394-Mike-Oldfield-Tubular-Bells One can feel the grooves on the contact side of the glue once peeled back

  43. You're absolutely right! The autotransformer would do just that and each tap would present yet a different inductance (one of the three parts of impedance) to the passive network that is loaded by the AX/driver combination. Thus different caps, etc., will have to be used due to the AX and changed again every time you choose different attenuation taps. Unless.. .. you use a swamping resistor and turn the AX/driver system into a resistor that barely changes value even as you change taps. Then who cares about the AX and driver with all their weird internal inductance/capacitance/resistance when all the passive network sees is what it thinks is a very close approximation to a constant value resistor? I wouldn't consider dealing with a moving target to load my passive network, thus it's AX plus swamping resistor or no AX for me. This plot illustrates what I'm saying - and please forgive me if I'm missing your point! And I'm still going to do those measurements you and Dean mentioned. : ) God bless you and your precious family - Langston

  44. Not confusing, Without me giving a lot of thought initially, that is how I was planning to go about it. But when I was thinking about the other approach, I am thought it would help with positioning the panels. I am guessing I would hardly need to clamp while dry fitting with the pocket screws. When I do my final assembly with the PL, I will take a few picks to simulate my idea. If it looks like it will be a good technique, I will keep in in mind for future builds.
