First no one should be feeling defensive about this subject with the La Scala because we all know there is no perfect loudspeaker. By discussing this aspect of the La Scala design everyone can benefit from how to minimize or compensate for the “emphasis” in the 120Hz-180Hz region of the La Scala to achieve the best sound possible in their system. I really don’t see any need to debate the “emphasis” in the 120Hz-180Hz region (peak centered at 148Hz) if for no other reason than the fact that Roy provided the PEQ values to compensate for it. It is clearly audible on some recordings as the examples that @Flevoman has given us and I can hear it maybe to a greater or lesser extent than he is experiencing but it is obviously there and if anyone who has the capability to implement the (PEQ of 148Hz, Q:8, -7db) they can prove it to themselves. The recordings that @Flevoman provided as examples in this thread are really enjoyable when the “emphasis” is removed from the La Scala but borderline enjoyable for me if I don’t apply the correction (PEQ: 148Hz). miketn3 points

This is a few years old, but really nice as an instrumental duet. Added the clip with a real duet first.3 points

Hi all, long time listener, first time poster here! I've been using Klipsch in my home cinema setup for a couple of decades and for a long time have had an aspiration to find some vintage La Scalas to underpin a HiFi setup. I'm in the UK so they don't pop up that often and I've found someone selling a 1970s pair that have been sat unused in a church for the last 15 years having been used as organ speakers prior to that. The type is listed as LS.BB and the serial is 18T979. The cabinets are well scuffed but don't have any major dents, cracks or anything visible other than surface damage. I think they would clean up OK. I've just received pictures of the crossover. Looks like it's have some tinkering but I'm past my knowledge here so hence the post there's also an amp that's been added to each speaker as they were used as active speakers with the organ, but I assume this would be relatively simple to remove. My question is what am I looking out for in terms of things that would make me completely avoid them? The seller is very open to negotiation and is keen to be rid of them. Again, I know the UK is a different market, but I would be interested in hearing thoughts on an opening bid either assuming everything is good, or assuming the worst.2 points

the P audio driver is a 20$ driver wholesale , I doubt anyone would even care to discuss such a cheap quality driver2 points

Bruce, David - - Thanks for letting me know your "Juices" are still flowing! Nice setup David. The Duke still reigns! Duke Spinner - People Chow was a project I worked on in the 90s. It occurred to me that most people feed their dogs the exact same food every day. I thought if that worked for dogs, maybe it would work for humans too. Why not have the "perfect nutrition" every day instead of monking around with a million different foods - many of them bad for you. So, I began concocting ingredients into a mix that could be stored easily, carried easily, and eaten without utensils - aka People Chow. It was of course 1/2 joking, 1/2 theater for my friends, and 1/2 serious attempt at simplifying my life living in an Airstream trailer on the beach in Half Moon Bay. Happy New Year to you all! This begins my 23rd year on the K-forum. Ha Ha, I don't know what to think of that.2 points

Very Nice @Marvel. That deserves to be heard through fully horn loaded Klipsch! & @babadono they weren't in my rotation back then when they came to town a few times. Like it better now than the one I posted from back then.2 points

Randy, I am here to gain knowledge, help others, and enjoy what others share. Members using the ignore option would be very detrimental to others who are trying to gain facts. As with a lot of threads, you have a large number of posts, most of which are arguing and insulting many others who have, individually or combined, more experience and knowledge than me and or you... A lot of your entries contradict themselves (there is no resonance to how to fix the resonance) I was told that we have two ears, two eyes, and only one mouth, and it is not a mistake by God or Mother Nature. I learned a long time ago that: 1) I don't know it all and I learn from others if I listen 2) That I gain credibility when I admit when I am wrong (and sometimes that's not easy because I am not made of straw) Happy New Year to you, hope you're doing well.2 points

Thanks for the offer, yeah, even going the Airbnb route is pricey, if I was flying solo I'd take you up on that.2 points

Hello, I am a newbie to the site. I bought these Klipsch speakers a few decades ago brand new, used them and loved their sound. They have set idle now in my air conditioned home for the past twenty years or so. Can you tell me a bit about these (model, date manufactured, value if re sold); they are still in mint condition. I’m moving to Costa Rica and I do not think they will fare well there…….no A/C and high humidity. Oh I have a center channel also that is functions unceremoniously as a TV stand. Here are pics of the speakers and labels.1 point

Thanks Mark. Happy New Year to you too. I think since I am quoting you, you will get notified/see this. But in the future if you want to alert someone you have quote one of their posts or do this @RealMarkDeneen with the @ sign. I stumbled onto your post by accident. Carry on....1 point

Zen, There have been several phases in my 23 years here and so many guys that have gone missing over the years. There was a speaker building phase, vintage Tube Amp phase, arguing over analog v. digital phase, a couple phases, the Juicy phase, the really bad phase and now a retirement phase--🥸. I hope i make it to 25 years before the lights go out! Hope you and yours have a wonderful new year!1 point

Happy New Year, Mark! I'm almost a newbie compared to you and who knew you were an excellent photo artist???😎 Heck, I enjoyed the 15 years of "tell me what you really think" days but everything, everywhere has calmed down since then. Lol as the kids say.1 point

Mornin' all light roast Peruvian in the cup. I guess I am driving to Sasabe this AM. Just a quick trip. Some agency wants water samples.... routine testing. Wife won't be needing to do work. Since we got the big screen tv to use as a monitor, she can work at home .... When she rearranged her office to use the big monitor, it cascaded throughout the house. Finding many things we knew we had, but couldn't find. And it will be the same, the next time we need this stuff.1 point

Me too. I remember my Dad taking out all the tubes in the TV and going with him to the drug store to test them. It says us old farts have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.1 point

@Delicious2, if all else fails P-Audio makes a copy of that tweeter. I THINK you can get a pair of them off eBay for $50. Whatever the sonic differences are will match.1 point

Welcome @bobofgold Try 800 to 1000 US dollar equivalent for the buy, bearing in mind the refinish of cabinets, the refreshing of capacitors, the transportation. The chance you are taking, without the ability to demo if all driver/speakers are working, if so. Or, go abit higher if seller taking bids, auction style, if you really want them.1 point

The old Crew stadium is a nice place. Plenty of parking. I'm an hour north w/4 lanes all the way to Cbus and my doors are open if you like. Save the hotel money cause that's an insane waste with lodging and food costs today. Load em up and bring your A game. lol1 point

Mark, I'm still enjoying my Merlin. I've not got the nerve to change from the 6DJ8 to the 6H30. It works great with the Duke.1 point

I beg to differ on this. I've spent time with the earlier LS and I'd say the improvement wrought by the II version is not subtle. It sounds better in almost every aspect.1 point

Well folks thought I'd drop back by to say I survived the Knee replacement surgery better than I could have hoped for 4 days in and I slid the walker behind the door and I'm using a cane, after all my vanity can only stand so much of that crap LOL! It'll be a couple month ordeal before I'm jogging, but I should be taking on a limited amount of work again before spring! In the meant time I might be posting a couple more pieces for sale to get me over the hump. On e already has a first dibs call out on it (Stereo VRD). But the other will be a pretty nice 299B that I have to put an upgraded power transformer in. Which I need to get to ordering. Any way again thanks for all the well wishes it good to see this place hasn't lost its friendly nature! I'll be forced to take lots of breaks when I get back to work so I'll probably start hanging out here again. Did I hear right and Mark Deneen is back in the house? Boy it would be nice to catch up with him, What a great guy! If any of you remember Mobile Homeless (Kelly Holstien) I still converse with him now and then. Funny how true friends find a way to bury and hatchet! Anyway, I'm rattling on! Cheers Craig1 point

mmmm the best part, I like my iodine fried. Sardines are good but I would never eat a oyster from a can. 🤢 We were at Rodney's once and he was cooking salmon, before he started I cut a nice piece and just started eating it, they all kind of freaked out so I did it again, I love salmon or tuna. Salmon kind of taste like really good raw beef, very close in taste.1 point

Works good. Best result with one of Valvo ECC82 from late 50's Also have to say one more thing (though it's off topic here, sorry): here in Ukraine we are very grateful to the people of the United States for the help. Thank you so much! We will never forget that1 point
