Blah, the vision I had turned out to be just a vision. Went up to bed and debated the entire thing. I remembered I had an eye appointment on Friday. It's about 1:30 South East of me and the appointment the next day is about 1:30 straight South of me. So yea, kinda of a great idea became a really stupid idea. ๐ Crib time, fuel costs and I'm off to Cleveland Tuesday to catch Walter Trout shred after dinner and drinks on the patio @ the venue. That's already laid on with my buddy and his wife and a good lookin friend I asked to go. We're all good friends so there's that. I did tell her she could drink all the white russians she wanted and we would get her home to sweetin the pot a bit. Coupled w/dinner and a nice nite out w/friends sittin a block from Lake Erie then factor in my front row seats how could she refuse? Yea, she's been a friend for years but the down side of it is she's been married 3 times. I can guarantee you Imma not gonna be #4. Even got some kid lined up who details cars out hittin the interior of mine, which hasn't been touched in about 7 years. Waaaaay overdue! Might have to open the doors, run the windows down and hit it a lick w/the leaf blower before I drop it off. Help the kid out a bit. I'm such a tease aren't I? Gonna have her salivating. ๐ Hey, @Skelt sorry brother but ur on your own. We road tripped one time and had a good time but I KNOW she's gonna smell better than you plus she's better lookin! I get it though. I can almost hear ya. RESIST old man she'd kill ya! We'll be on the patio for drinks so find me I might buy ya a beer. Doubtful but maybe. ๐ Sure I'd buy ya one keep ur eyes peeled. Depends on how things are looking. Not good, I'll buy ya a case if ya get her home. MY ticket is out of the question. So don't ask anything. Just ask if I'm buyin you one case or two. Shhhhhh. A man thingy! ๐ ๐ ๐3 points

I am reopening this thread to make it easier to find if anyone has a search about the K33V woofer. As I wrote earlier I bought 1973 Khorns where everything is very original and unmodified. However, I had to open one of the woofer chambers immediately after purchase because one of the voice coils was scratching very badly. As far as the purchase of the Khorns is concerned, it is not a problem because the price was really fair by European standards. The only problem was that the woofer was labeled K33V and I had never seen such a woofer in a LaScala or a Khorn. A search here in the forum revealed that in older threads the authenticity of this woofer as an original used part was partly doubted. After all, there is not a single reference to a K33V woofer in the historical timeline for the Khorn if you look there (can be found here in the forum). I was a bit confused, had the first owner of my new 1973 Khorns perhaps received replacement drivers at some point, or was there another way of replacing them? After all, the Khorn is absolutely genuine Klipsch from head to toe. I got the tip to ask Jim Hunter @JRH. His answer is very insightful, and who should know better than him: "I believe this is an EV version used only briefly. The P was CTS at Paducah, Ky. Later the B was CTS when they moved to Brownsville, TX." In fact, it's an early WK EV15B exactly the same as the one in this ad: https://reverb.com/item/79863104-klipsch-electro-voice-wk-ev15b-ev-15b-k33v-k-33-v-1970s-black Only, my woofer is missing the marking on the magnet, the one in the reverb ad has a number. But it's the same woofer, even the number on the cone is the same. I wanted to clarify this so that people with a LaScala, Cornwalls or Khorns from around 1973 are not confused when they see a K33V driver in their speaker. Why there are only very few Klipsch speakers with K33V may be speculation today. It seems to have been more of a test balloon. Anything is possible, from the cost of purchase to the fit of the specification to the observed reliability. I will not have the K33V reconed. I have read in guitar forums that the old EV SRO and EV15B may well have problems with the voice coils (like my Khorn as well). Since I have temporarily installed the original 1977 K33E out of my vintage LaScala in the Khorn with great success soundwise, I will look for such K33E and eventually use them, whether vintage mint or new, but the real ones delivered via Klipsch themselves because I have already completed the phase of searching for replacement woofers. I don't want it to be a Crites or a China copy re this fine vintage Khorn. Here is another K55V, not mine, which has a number.2 points

If itโs to listen to the content The best option and my advice is to find the archive recordings and download them then burn to CD Next best is to down load from YouTube and again burn to CD https://archive.org/details/78_the-land-of-the-lost-part-1_isabel-manning-hewson_gbia0210879a2 points

Hey everyone...sorry been really busy. Both Mom and Dad got Covid so I have been running back and forth from NY to Florida. They are both fine now thank God. In any case I have a real big favor to ask of everyone. I am trying desperately to find a copy of this for my Mother. She'll be up to visit with Dad next month. If anyone has a line on this please let me know. She had this set as a little girl and used to play it for me when I was no more than about 5 or 6. Any help will be greatly aappreciated.2 points

Wait, I'm seeing something outta the box I likey! The industrial look? Just all of it? Is this the first post I've seen of this rig or what? Welcome to the red-headed brotherhood or at least mine cause I've not seen your rig! I likey! ๐ช I'd hang a bit guys but I'm now on ANOTHER mission from God. So here's the back story. My buddy Gary and his wife slipped all the way down to Cincy (3.5 hours each way and drove home) last night to catch Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs (2.5 hour show). He said the show was great and his wifey absolutely loved it so there's ur heads up. So there's one dude from Petty's crew. Add Benmount Tench for the second dude. Then factor in my old buddy Steve Ferrone on the kick drums for #3. I'd told him to keep an eye out for Ferrone. Yup, he was there he said. Then the bell went the f OFF in my wittle brain. I checked my honey hole an hour away from me and BINGO I was right. They're playing there tonight (Thurs) so guess what else now that the planets have aligned? When I hooked up w/Steve in Ft Wayne, IN about 5-6 years ago I only took one lp to sign. His first. Cut the Cake when he was with AWB. I waited til last and he'd signed about 50 Petty lp's. Yea, he knew me from seeing me backstage quite a few times when Petty played Cleveland. I never asked them for anything up there. Asked very few of the really big guns actually. Got them later. Steve couldn't believe I brought that lp. I said it was my fav and we'd hook up sometime later to get some Petty stuff signed since it was right after Tom's death. He grinned and said ok. Then we got into the back story of how he got his job w/Petty. Mikey was a friend and they were in London on vacay and nosin for a drummer. Campbell had played w/Steve before and Steve lived in England so called him for a tryout. Steve said he played for an hour and Petty hadn't said a word. He just kept playing so Mike saw the look on his face and said something to Petty bout Steve on drums. Petty said yea he liked him and he had a job. lol To hear him tell it made it even funnier so we were both laffin about the twist of it all. Steve ALWAYS laid down the perfect beat too so naturally I kinda watched him a lot in Cleveland. Sooooo, I'm out! Road trip time. Takin ONE thing. Mah Petty white bible collection of everything! Yup, blamin it all on Ferrone too! No ticket, just mah lawn chair to camp outside the bus and hang. He'll be laffin and I'll be inside for sure. Gonna tell him I knew then he'd be doin sumpin w/Mikey and Benmount. hahaha Did kinda think that too actually. It's an old guy kinda thingy! Watch me go and cross your fingers for me. On the 4th crate of signed stuff. Save ya money, my clocks tickin down! hahaha Ain't happenin. Well maybe. ALWAYS a song for every occasion!2 points

Immaculate Klipsch Forte III, black ash, no blemishes or functional issues. Located in Fort Wayne, IN. A 2 hour drive to Indianapolis, 3+ to Chicago, 3 to Columbus, OH, 2 1/2 hours to Detroit. I have the standard black grill covers, and ordered the Silver Luster grills from Klipsch as well. Both sets, along with the Klipsch documentation and original factory packaging will be included. I would much prefer to find a local or buyer, and would be willing to drive a few hours to meet a buyer. Advertised on US Audiomart as well. I have perfect feedback on the site. Photos available on the site.1 point

My 1st pair of Khorns was in my 10x11' bedroom when I was 18 in 1976. I mowed a lot of lawns and cleared a lot of driveways for a couple of years. Now my mother uses them in a 27x19" room with a Mc240 and Mx110 and at 87 years old she uses them all day every day. They sound MUCH better in the larger room. My horns are in a 20 x13 room and my listening position is perfect. I was playing some Frank Sinatra "Come Fly With Me" the other day at live levels and between songs there was a knock on the door. My neighbor had a friend over who played in some of Mr. Sinatra's back up bands and he said it was the closest he ever heard a recording sounding like the real thing . Some people like small triode amps myself I am a fan of dynamic headroom. A pair of Bryston 7b-St at 500 watts a side provide the torque to make Mr. Klipsch's baby's do a wheel stand.1 point

To be honest, I can hear the difference in which type of cable, plug or other connection is used. Depending on the speaker, I can also clearly hear whether I plug the cables into the treble or bass input. When I made a few tweaks to my 1993 Tannoy Canterbury six months ago, I also addressed this issue because it just annoyed me that it always sounds different depending on how you do it. So I thought, since I'm not going to do bi amping or bi wiring, maybe it would be best if I avoided it at all. M.a.W. the best possible result without spending money on space rocket jumpers. This is what it looks like inside the Canterbury speaker now. As I had hoped, it clearly brings the best sound without any preference for mids, lows or highs. Just get rid of what I don't need. So I put bass and treble on just one plug.1 point

I have a question. I have a pair of Hersey 3โs in Cherry very nice. I have an opportunity to get some Chorus IIโs. Iโve heard Chorus IIโs before and loved them. Would I be down grading. The Chorus IIโs are Walnut in good regular condition. No up grades. any input would help.1 point

I had the Heresy 2 once and upgraded to the Chorus 1. This was a big improvent, so go for it.1 point

The Chorus IIs play considerably lower than the Heresy IIIs and I believe you'll notice the difference. Efficiency is close to equal. I'd say go for it.1 point

OB won't have the thickness or meat on the bone without subs. Also, several businesses are now capitalizing on the open baffle popularity because it used to be such low cost but it's clearly obvious now that the market is being taken advantage of because OB speaker prices are becoming ridiculous and one might as well just go with the Klipsch Heritage at this point if they're gonna spend that much money. As much as I have experimented and use open baffle speakers, my feelings about their exploitation in abusive ways has changed since 2022. It's not a very cost savings option anymore with the inflation of material costs.1 point

I remember buying my Heresy II from Hifi Hutch back in 1987. I never would go into debt so i used layaway. Every friday i would go into Hifi Hutch and pay something towards my balance. Kenny knew to expect to see me every Friday until i had a zero balance. Those Heresyโs are still playing strong to this day, 2023. Way to go Paul. What a trip down memory lane1 point

"Old Slowhand" is as good as ever, even if he's getting "old', LOL!!! "Slowhand"? Watch him, and regardless of the complexity of the song, hhe just makes it look simple!!! Take a listen to "Slunky" that he did back in the 70's. LOL!!! Supports the "God" accolade!!!1 point

Florida... "Rec" fuel which is high octane and no ethanol additives.; "Stabil" every six months the motor is going to sit; Start all motors, engines, etc., every 30-60 days; run to operating temps. Run mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, etc., "dry", then refuel with fresh fuel. You can leave motors "dry", if the fuel you ran dry has a stabilizer that leaves the gaskets, and other parts "lubricated". I do this all the time with my lawn stuff and my generators. The easy way is once a month start everything, test, and let run for a few minutes. Generators are a "critical' component, so those are run for at least 30 minutes. Schedule the oil change every six months. drain, check and in this day and age, a good synthetic works fine. In Florida, all changed after hurricane season (end of October). Then in April-May as the rainy season starts. Filters... If any of your "stuff" has fuel filters... Change them in the spring cycle. My thoughts and experience from living in the "swamp" for 30 years.... LOL!!! Later,1 point

Thoughts and prayers. Ankle disasters are really dangerous and pose significant threats to the ability to walk, run etc, if not corrected as soon as possible. Hope the surgeons are "on this" and make sure that the ankle rehab is careful and does not force use of the ankle too soon. Best of luck, and if your daughter needs, take advantage of Bill's offer.1 point

H-1... As others suggested, it's time to replace the caps. For the H-1's you should avoid putting anything in the cabinet. The H-2 design was different and that's why they put the foam "arch" inside. The best way, after replacing the caps, to reduce resonance vibrations or "rattling", is to use a foam gasket tape on the rear panel seal, check, and recheck all screws. Note on the caps.. If they are not working correctly, they can let low end freqs through and cause the woofers to rattle. Very bad as it will cause a woofer failure. Also check your "bass" settings on your amp. Back it off a bit and play the same music that caused rattling. Hope this helps.1 point

Klipschorns play loud, but also sound really good at normal levels because of their low distortion. Because of your room size and angles, I suggest trying to get 1983 or newer models with the tweeters mounted on Z-brackets, as seen on the left edge of my picture. These brackets put the tweeters flush with the motorboard face, allowing better dispersion.1 point

If you've got two good corners, the Khorns will take up less room than La Scalas, and will give you an additional octave of low frequency performance.1 point

I am going to upgrade my old Denon and looking at different Onkyo models. The choice is between 3 of them: HT-RC370, TX-NR709 and TX-NR809. I looked at the specifications on Onkyo site and back panel pictures of all these models, but still can't decide. HT-RC370 vs TX-NR709. The 709 has 10 extra watts of power per channel, which I probably will not need or notice with my speakers, 1 more HDMI in and out and zone 2 trigger. Other then that they look the same. For some reason HT-RC370 has less complains about failures and negative reviews. The difference in price is not significant. TX-NR809 on the other hand has different (better?) video chip HQV Vida and push-pull design. Are these 2 improvements worth spending extra $200? Will I hear the difference in sound or notice better picture quality? It also has more power, but again even my 70 watt Denon has more power than I need.1 point

Thank you, everybody who has answered me in this thread. After more reading and thinking I am most likely to go with either HT-RC370 or TX-NR709 and save for an external amp.1 point

I have Denon AVR-1801 receiver that I purchased almost 11 years ago. It can decode DTS. I have 5.1 setup and my old receiver did a great job while watching DVD's and BluRay disks. I use a coaxial cable to connect a DB player to the receiver. Lately I have watched several DB movies where I have noticed that my rear speakers do not produce any sound. The soundtrack on these disks was in "DTS-HD Master Audio". I expected this new format to be compatible with DTS but it apparently isn't unless I am doing something wrong. I read that receiver can't handle new HD formats when connected with coaxial cable. Is it a problem I am experiencing? Digital output on DB player is set to "DTS re-encode". Unforgettably my DB player does not have 5.1 or 7.1 analog output, so a can't connect it to the receiver with analog cables. Does it make sense to upgrade a receiver at this point? What would you recommend if my budget is around $500? I want a receiver with 7.1 analog input and 7.1 pre-out, HDMI inputs and able to decode DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD.1 point
-
Willland, unfortunately my BD player does not have analog 5.1 or 7.1 output. When I bought it I was not smart enough to look at this feature. I am currently considering Marantz SR5005 - looks like it has all I need for now (HDMI 1.4a and all new codecs) and has 7.1 input and 7.1 pre-out to cover my future needs. Amazon sells it for $488. Is it a good choice for this money or are there alternatives worth considering in the same price range?1 point
-
After tweaking my DB player settings I managed to get the sound from the surround speakers. Thus currently I am getting DTS sound from DB disks instead of DTS-HD. Will I even hear the difference if I upgrade to a receiver capable to decode TrueHD? Will it sound better of is it just a marketing trick to keep people buying new stuff? I am not interested in 3-D, but sound quality improvement is important for me.1 point

I currently have an RC-3 with a vinyl slightly peeling of the sides. It looks like it has shrunk a bit and will not cover the exposed area if I just try to put some glue on it. Is there a better way to repair it? Can I buy the vinyl that will work for this application? Here is a picture:1 point
