IF you want new networks, I can build them for less than the "aftermarket" prices given. Dean can as well. I am with Dean here, you need to float the solder joints.3 points

I re-glued the magnet shield back down with epoxy and it is now secure. Then I found that when I touch the dust cap I hear the rattle. No way to fix. So I ordered a new woofer from Klipsch should be here in 5-10 days. I suspect the speaker suffered damage in shipping as it was not packed very well.1 point

I would recommend not even plugging them in with out a variac. I have a Fisher 400 that I want to have restored and even though it was working fine when used the last time 30 years ago, it going for service.1 point

In my view, it's not just a question of whether you have a contact and hear something or not. It is also the sound quality if the solder contacts are far too old. So you kill two birds with one stone if you re-solder all the solder points.1 point

It depends on the arc....exp. or Tratrix or ect. And No Roy won't give his way to get there. The math is above my head.1 point

Ok, so I just proved my wife is right! (I'm a dumbazz) I not only found the profile on that old thread, I actually commented on it there! sigh.... pardon my intrusion into your constructive commentary here.1 point

You aren't really seeing the full effect with a 3.1 system, the all-channel stereo will add the center back in but it also plays stereo sound through your surround speakers so if you had a 5.1, 7.1, or 9.1 system each side (from front to surround to rear surround) would play their respective stereo signal.1 point

this... BETTER UI also... We need a running list of current and new developed options so some of us can search them out and try them. Some of the UI's I have seen are so user friendly these days compared to the original Xilica xConsole.1 point

Wondering myself, seems like there would more serious things in life to worry about. Apparently his system is in one zip code and he listens from another zip code where the SPL is not quite so high.1 point

The settings "as is" would sound different in everyone's space as they were derived in the chamber. You need to adjust for the room unless you use the speakers outdoors. These Xilicas also have a graphic EQ section which I have used with great success in balancing the measurements within my room. As I recall it didn't take much. A few tweaks here and there. I haven't touched them in a long time.1 point

I just wanted to state there are cheaper and as good or better solutions out there at present. Using better more current A/D and D/A converters, newer generation opamps and more state of the art DSP. Most have FIR capabilities as well.1 point

Here's the pics I took of my 2 units...don't know or seem to have any control over the sequence of the posts... Make of it what you will....in my mind they are both genuine Xilica I inspected Part numbers on ICs with magnifying glass which you will not be able to make out in these pictures...they are IDENTICAL.1 point

If the Klipschorn speakers are as old as some of those amps. You might consider having a rebuild done on the cross-overs.1 point

agreed as well. I don't even care if it sounds all that good, it's visually striking and looks something that evokes past icons from Klipsch, Altec & Jensen and a factory rendered DIY job. as an inveterate DIY-er, it's cool as hell. I'd also like to see more like this.1 point

I agree and will add that I would much rather see more "projects" like the Ojas than another ear bud or mid-market powered speaker. Also an endeavor such as this helps support the Hope plant and it's workers. Not just buy for a dollar and sell for two (or three) dollars. If this works out, they will probably build more (set initial production to 100 pair probably based on they made 200 horns), and / or add to the offering. I may not be their target audience, but I like the thought process.1 point

Crossovers from Crites have sky rocketed in price. At this point, I'd build for a simple Klipsch designed network (up modify OEM).1 point

Gold = overpriced average metallized polypropylene capacitors. AA is the wrong network for your drivers. Sounds like you just have a bad solder joint/loose connection. Very doubtful that you have a bad part. https://www.facebook.com/share/1HDnB63zMg/?mibextid=wwXIfr1 point

THanks for the "kind" words...Yes I did close on the house. I took a few before pictures and will take some more of during and after shots. I now have the net up and working at the house so I will try to post some pic's soon. I have pulled about 1000 ft of wire so far. I do have a issue, these numbskulls up here dont put light in the rooms. they only have switched outlets. So I have added light in all the rooms. ( I love the tingle of 110 I plan to stop working on the house for the weekend...need some party time.1 point

I did locate all the sprinkler heads in the yard outside the Mrg. office window and pull out the tape to make sure the tent would fit between them. All the time the Mrg was watching out her window. I watched her pick up the phone and make a call with fear on her face. Yes, THX UII will be going in the main room. verious other in the other rooms. Pulling wire on Sat morning...well that is if someone doesn't mess this up again.1 point

UP DATE: We are set to close at 3pm today...Painting tonight, moving in Sat and Sun. I plan to "cull" some more "stuff" so watch for a list soon. OR come by and dig through the pile (after you help carry in a few boxes I will post some pic's as I can and hope to plan a garthering soon.1 point

FUN FUN....NOT Still trying to close...fired the banker that was "working" on my loan...due to lying to me along with other things. Have her boss, his boss and the VP in the mix now. At the point of making an offer, I had a pre-approvel on the loan. What a mess. At the end of the month I must be out of the place I am renting...If I don't have a place then, to prove a point, I plan to set up a tent in the yard of the Bank and move in. Anyone know a good lawyer and bail bonds man? [6]1 point

hi Guys -- I have a pair of La Scalas from 1980 with a type AA crossover network -- the speakers sound fine but the crossovers look beat up -- is it worth my time to upgrade to a AL net or something custom built available off Ebay?? Will it make a difference in the sound? Thanks1 point

Hi Guys -- Need help with selection of center channel. I have a Mcintosh MX-134 mated to MC206, Phillips Blue Ray player and Mac MR67 tuner. I will have La Scala on the outside fronts but I would like to get opinions on what would be best fit for center and rears -- sub is older JBL that will be replaced. Leaning towards RC-64 but not sure about the match I don't have room to chop a La Scala in half and shove the horns in the center has to fit under the LCD and at 33 inches width clearance the RC-64 will just squeak in (maybe). I'm surprised Klipsch doesn't just build a horn center channel designed for the Heritage series -- I guess from reading they expect you to Klipschorns for the fronts, a Belle Klipsch for the Center and La Scalas for the rears -- with a 50 X 55 foot room to put them in of course. The den is small the rears will have to fire sideways. Any help will be appreciated.1 point
-
I don't know, is there? Speaker would be undermounted underneath the LCD with a good chunk of two inch laminate over the top -- do I need a lead blanket as well? Could I just paint it white to reflect radiation? I hope the sound is worth all this work1 point

You know guys I think this will work -- if I yank out two of the glass shelves underneath my samsung there is enough space in there to squeeze in a Heresy -- and Heresy /Cornwalls on the back. I have another question for my fellow La Scalamates -- will there be any degradation in output if I place the Heresy sideways? And is there a BIG difference in sound quality between the Heresy I, II and II's?? There are plenty available on ebay. Man I cant wait to hear a full HT system with Macs powering up the electronics1 point
-
the den is twenty feed wide and thirteen feet deep with fireplace along one wall -- the side wall on the right opens to kitchen1 point
-
Thanks for the help guys -- the problem I have is the room arrangement -- its a small den with La Scala's on the fronts and five 200 watt channels this puppy is going to be so loud you'll need earmuffs. The RC64 is a perfect fit underneath my Samsung 52 inch -- to get a Cornwall in as the center I'd have to get a carpenter in to add a strong shelf over the top of the TV (hmmm, maybe this IS doable). I'm afraid it may look awkward. The rears are going to have to be placed sideways as there is no room. I will have to think this over -- just how BAD can an RC64 sound anyways there may be some pitch differences but its primarly voices, right?1 point

I have 2 older bookshelf Infinities. They are connected from sub, which is connected to receiver. The reciever is an older Onkyo TX-SV414PRO. I want to get some polk for the front and move the infinities to the back. I can only go to two speakers from my sub SW12 II. It was suggested to connect the rear Infinities directly to the receiver. However I will not be able to filter the lows to the rears on the sub via lowpass knob. The receiver has no configuration menu. Is there any fix to this? Also, the lowpass does filter the lows to the speakers right? What should the lowpass be set to? I notice the lower the number is the more bass goes to my speakers. It would seem to set it so that the front speakers sound as full as they can get right?1 point

Would putting a sub just right to the area one is listening a known location for a sub. My sub in front right corner will be in the way of new floorstanding speakers. Any suggestions? Thanks1 point
-
Thanks guys! The only problem is that my old SW12 II has wires run to it first. Then from the sub to the speakers. I would have to run long wires to place the sub lateral to listening position then back to speakers up front. Also, I plan to buy one of the lower end HK, provided it can drive smaller floorstanding speakers, and use my old bookshelf Infinities in the rear. Can a lower end HK AVR135 drive polk monitor 50 or comparable Klipsch? I will run wires to sub then what? There are now four speakers. The sub has only two out wire connectors, which go to my two old Infinities. One could say the HK has sub out. Run one wire to sub. However, my sub has regular wire connectors and one set RCA inputs and one set RCA outputs. My old Onkyo does not have sub out. Does sub out go to RCA connectors? I think it is one connection on the back of sub not two RCA right? How can I set this up? Thanks1 point

Help! I have an old Onkyo TX-SV414PRO. The manual say "60 watts per channel in stereo mode, into 8 ohms, with no more than 0.08% THD. In surround mode it provides a full 50 watts of power to the left and right front channels and to the center channel as well. The rear surround speakers each receive 15 watts per channel." It has Dolby Pro Logic surround sound. It is about 12 years old. I am looking to buy Klipsch or Polk floorstanding speakers. I currently only have two front speakers and a sub setup. I might get some rears in the future, which might force me to get a new receiver. I hear HK is good. Anyway I currently have some old bookshelf Infinity Sterling Series 6.5 single woofer with polycell tweeter, which are so easy to power. I have never made it half way the volume knob. Which ever speakers I choose, it will be the smaller floorstanding ones for I want them for highs and maybe mids. I have a Klipsch sub SW12 II, which I have to run wires to first, then from sub to speakers. I am considering RF-10, F-1, or Polk monitor 50. I know the RF-10 are way better than F-1. However, the issue is will my old receiver have enough power to make any of these speakers sound decend? I am considering buying one of the lower end HK to push the speakers I choose. Should I get a lower end HK? However, if my old reciever can push anyone of these speakers, I might keep the receiver for a while. I know the speakers I am considering have different sounds ie bright, smooth. My main concern is having enough power for them to sound good. I do not want to spend $500 on RF-10 if my receiver will make them sound bad. To tell you guys the truth, the speakers I have now do not sound to bad. That could mean I have never really heard good speakers. Recap questions: 1. However, the issue is will my old receiver have enough power to make any of these speaker sound decend? 2. Should I get a lower end HK? However, if my old reciever can push anyone of these speakers, I might keep the receiver for a while. Thanks1 point
