Hi, I need to build some boxes to put in-wall speakers. This way I can put the speakers in the brick wall. I thought about MDF material, is that ok? I was wondering what size these boxes should have compared to the speakers I have to install in them? Also, how thick should the MDF be? The speakers in question are Klipsch, model PRO-25-RW-LCR (x2) and model PRO-16-RW (x2). Thanks1 point

How much does it matter if I go with a SS or Tube Preamp? I'm new to higher end systems. Some background - The first pair of high-end speakers I bought were a pair of new Klipsch KG2s when I was in college, and have been a fan ever since. And since my intent was to set up the space to listen in stereo with an emphasis on live albums/Cds, I was focused on a new/used pair in the Heritage lineup. After doing a bunch of research and finally hearing the Cornwalls, I was sold. Got a great deal on the floor model, and picked up the used amps below from the same store. My current set-up: Inputs: DAC - Centrance Dacmini CX CD Transport - Sony BlueRay Stream - Sonos Connect TT - Audio Technica (my son's - he's gotten into vinyl, i'm the CD guy) Preamp - Holman Power amp - PrimaLuna ProLogue Monoblocks I just finished (for now) setting up my listening space and i'm loving the sound, the space.... everything. At some point I will want to dial everything in even better, but for now I'm enjoying how centered the vocals are, and how much I'm hearing things from my old CDs that I don't think I ever heard before. My son's have pointed out the same - hearing things from albums, and even spotify streaming that they hadn't heard before. If I replace the Preamp, does it make sense to go w/ SS, or Tube? The only reason I'm considering changing is so I can set-up something like Dirac Live to fine tune, and to have a more modern preamp that allows for different settings, and a remote. Can I accomplish all of that with the Holman? Not gonna lie, it's pretty cool having a 1970's preamp that sounds and looks amazing, so feel free to talk me out of changing anything, or offering other advice. TIA1 point

Does this Type C crossover look all original to you down to the white internal wiring? How do you test the caps to make sure they are still within spec? I have a multimeter handy but know nothing about electronics repair. Thanks.1 point

For me, I am using it to power my dual 18” jbl bass bins on my Jubenstein. I get clear clean signal with lots of power for a reasonable price.1 point

I bought a Mapletree pre amp 24 years ago and its still in use today with the same tubes it came with. They are not talked about much, but make a nice pre amp. Couple years ago i bought their phono pre amp. Its just as nice as the first one.1 point

@Marvel thank you. My i return ciretes crossover rebuild kit silver? And get from deang? İs there any oter capacitors, inductors or resistors etc. other than on the crossovers on H2?1 point

The Primaluna preamps get high marks...maybe you can get a retailer to let you try one in your system on a trial basis. I also have a Apt preamp, which I enjoy, but the tube preamps are different and sound a bit more "airy" to me. I also like the Aric Audio line.1 point

I would recommend not even plugging them in with out a variac. I have a Fisher 400 that I want to have restored and even though it was working fine when used the last time 30 years ago, it going for service.1 point

While I don't know this for sure I suspect that buying any future Heritage with DSP, we are going to need some way to make any additional wanted adjustments. We know now that you can't get into the Klipsch DSP for any adjustments. I know Roy is using the same DSP for the new lascalas and Khorns. One option would be to use the provided passive networks. But after the comparisons we heard I would still get the Klipsch DSP and have an additional one for further adjustments.1 point

He shouldn't need a schematic. I got the correct parts from Dean, @Deang one of the forum members who is approved by Klipsch to repair Klipsch crossovers. He sent me the parts. They didn't change the sonic character of the speakers, but tightened things up a bit. Certainly happy with the Heresy IIs. I'll try to get the pics/info to you tonight, but I've been out of the country for almost a month and having to catch up on things at home now that I'm back.1 point

I agree and will add that I would much rather see more "projects" like the Ojas than another ear bud or mid-market powered speaker. Also an endeavor such as this helps support the Hope plant and it's workers. Not just buy for a dollar and sell for two (or three) dollars. If this works out, they will probably build more (set initial production to 100 pair probably based on they made 200 horns), and / or add to the offering. I may not be their target audience, but I like the thought process.1 point
-
it's worth noting that Klispch isn't a small company operating out a shed in Hope AR, anymore. They're part of a multinational corporation and have the overhead middle management, marketing and the e-suite to cover, as well as multinational manufacturing operations& distribution that all have to extract as much value from the product line as possible in order to deliver maximum returns to shareholders. This creates significant inflation beyond the Consumer Price Index, so, with profit and overhead, a speaker that costs $1299 to manufacture, has a retail value of $8000 to cover it all. This is the reality of corporate production today.1 point

Figuratively speaking regarding my prior comments. As for the price, they can charge whatever they wish to charge. I just find it ridiculous when people try to justify prices like this. Magnepan will start doing the same once old-school has passed on. Klipsch used to stay proportionate with inflation, then after Kevin Deal talked about it, that's when the price hikes started several years ago.1 point

Both the prices of the Heresy IV and the OJAS speakers are higher than I'm willing to pay, but I'll stop short of calling the price points of either, "gouging." in the case of the OJAS, it's more appropriate to consider them as functional artwork. They're largely hand made, in limited quantities, produced in part by an established artist and priced accordingly. Whereas the Klipsch RP line is comparable to a Volkswagen Jetta, not cheap, but also not priced out of reach of many consumers, Heresy IV is akin to an Audi A3, with styling and performance that puts them in the aspirational luxury category, expensive enough, but reachable with smart budgeting for many. The Ojas, on the other hand, skips a few rungs on the performance ladder, eschewing the modern conveniences of the contemporary Porsche lineup, more like an air-cooled Singer Porsche: it's performance isn't nearly up to par with a current model Porsche and in many ways, isn't even as good as a Jetta, however it's hand built, with unmistakably unique styling and quirky performance that has its own appeal. Its price reflects its limited availability, exclusive styling and hand-made construction, while performance is almost secondary.1 point

During times of panic or crisis , stabilizing economic forces can break down and cause serious problems . Of course the remedy for these problems aren’t without unintended consequences , but this is a blessing to the cynics that seem to find issue with anything imaginable.1 point

I want a new Bugatti, but they cost too much. Breaking that ^^ sentence down: there is one fact and one opinion. It's a fact that I want one, it's my opinion that the car costs too much. Many times on this forum, people say (x) is "priced too high, costs too much, is not worth it, OR it's worth more, is priced too low, etc." Worth is between the one selling and the buyer(s). Not that it's any of my business, but why are you letting the price bother you? I hope they sell the he!! out of them and expand into OjaScala. Not my money, not my monkey, not my business.1 point

The purpose of a business is to make money , the price of a product is what the market will bear. Anything higher it won’t sell . In this case a great deal of effort has been made to insure that the product will be successful and will sell , there is no price gouging here . I consider it price gouging when a company tries to sell essential products or services for outlandish prices , under circumstances that fall outside the normal constraints of competition and economic law of supply and demand . Like conditions that may exist during a crisis , pandemic or war for example.1 point

I am making my own but it’s misleading when people try to justify price gouging, there’s no excuse for it.1 point

I have no doubt about the innovative power and quality of modern high-class hi-fi systems. I meant it more in the sense that new young groups of buyers should be inspired who will then later be familiar with the hobby when they can afford more expensive devices. BTW here is the link to the Munich High End show in English. I try to be there. https://www.highendsociety.de/high-end-44.html1 point

The hi-fi business really needs new impulses. and OJAS is a good thing for that. It doesn't matter if in this video a mid treble horn is advertised as a turnball horn, when it's an Altec horn, assembled by Klipsch.1 point

Sorry for your loss. I might suggest keeping these yourself, at least consider it. You have some epic gear here, and later on you could regret selling them. Understand if you don’t have space etc. some of the posts on Reddit were bad advice IMO. At the very least, take your time with them. I’ve been down the parent estate like many others and regret selling some things I wish I’d have kept.1 point

Wrong again! Still here! I simply dont feel the need to have to prove myself on here. Doesnt matter to me if anyone believes me or not. Actually, I'm sure BobG could look into their shipping department and find out if a pair of LaScallas shipped recently. Bob, what do you say?1 point
-
All, Guess what...? I just got my brand new LaScallas... You know... The ones that the moderators said I would not get because they weren't in production??? BobG... Before you start telling people that they "definately" wont be getting stuff... You better get a clue. Brand new in the box - still sealed from Klipsch. ------------------ This message has been edited by wired1 on 09-20-2001 at 07:55 AM1 point

Kevin S, You have to love these web sites. Everyone seems to know everything but generally dont know anything. I think it is absolutely hilarious that people have responded to my posts the way they have - especially when they dont know crap. Before you speculate on how YOU think I may have gotten my speakers, you should learn to ask the proper questions before making dumb comments. The speakers I got were just made because the dealer gave me status updates with updates from within Klipsch saying so. The wood still has fresh saw dust on them!!! As for my attitude, you better believe it sours when people start flapping at the gums about things they know nothing about - like you. I was told for the longest time that the LaScallas were not in production and that my Krell/Klipsch combination would be disappointing! Perhaps you have the "lay down" attitude when people spout off but I dont. I call it like it is and respond accordingly. The facts are - I got my NEW LaScallas and my stereo sounds INCREDIBLE!!! So do me a favor, crawl into your hole and stay there. By the way - Im sure BobG doesn't need someone to run to his defense. If you disagree with something I said then post your opinion but dont' be a "do-gooder" and run to someones defense. THats part of the problem on here.. Mike, The fact that I said that it sounds terrible is a GENERAL opinion that "MAY" be inferred to individuals WITHOUT individual direction. What that guy said to me was that "I" would be disappointed. Its quite obvious that you are too stupid to know the difference and proved it by opening your big mouth... Your a joke... reporting me to the moderators.... LOL... GET A LIFE, DUDE!!!! ------------------ wired1@ameritech.net1 point
-
The EAR, YOur 100% right on what you said. And as I have just said, most people work hard and spend a lot of $ on their equipment. I now that Krell amp you got and it is absolutely incredible. As for the new LaScallas... I just spoke to my dealer and it was confirmed that it was shipped from the dealer and it is now in their warehouse. He told me the speakers would be there on Monday or Tuesday by the latest. I'll let you know.... ------------------ wired1@ameritech.net1 point
-
Colin, It takes a man to say what you have said and I appreciate it. Perhaps you used the wrong terminology but people should never trash other peoples equipment. Especially because they probably put a lot of hard work and money into getting it. ------------------ wired1@ameritech.net1 point
-
Mike, wired1, OK...lets reverse the tables. Here's something you said just last week and I quote: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I personally think that the whole KLF line sounds "tinny". I tried them out at a local dealer with different amps, CD players and receivers and thought they sounded TERRIBLE! They are WAY to "tinny" and not enough deep end. The only Klipsch line I would ever consider buying is either the HEritage line or the Promedias - they rock! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By saying this you have completely crapped on every person who bought a Legend speaker. Except I didn't see anybody criticize you for saying it. Why? Because it was YOUR opinion! Nothing more and nothing less. It wasn't personal and nor was his statement to you. BTW, there's really no need to swear on this Forum either... Mike Dude, YOu are WAY off base... Just because I said they KLF line sounds "tinny" is VERY different than me telling someone that they are going to be disappointed with their equipment!!! Your simply an idiot and you should stay out of peoples arguments - even if they are public. You obviously don't know **** for making such a BAD comparison!!! ------------------ wired1@ameritech.net1 point
-
JJT, I have no intention of searching through the posts and could care less about who Colin is or how he is "respected" by you. I dont need some nimrod telling me, especially after I bought all my equipment, that I wont be satisfied with it in the long run. Perhaps you learn to respect people on web sites but I could give a rats *** what negative comments people have to give. By the way... Everything I got is top notch and purchased for stereo. Why the hell will I not be happy in the long run and very happy in the short run??? ------------------ wired1@ameritech.net1 point
-
ALL--- If people are going to post all their stereo/home theater equipment fine... DON'T THROW IN DUMB **** LIKE PLAYSTATIONS AND LAPTOP COMPUTERS! If I felt the need to throw in the rest of the electronics in my home, the price would probably go up another $15 to $20k. All the stuff I just listed was for my new stereo - not every piece of electonics I own! ------------------ wired1@ameritech.net1 point
-
TheEAR, Thanx for the support!!! That guy has absolutely no idea what he is talking about! I will be getting my speakers in a couple of days so I'll let everyone, including COlin, how it sounds... ------------------ wired1@ameritech.net1 point
