  2. Bullet proof, lots of power, decent sound esp. for use on bass bins. I use several in my basement all horn theater and also have a few for my porch system at my rural place. These are all the newer XLS series. There are certainly better sounding full range amps, but if you want a powerful amp on a bass bin or sub these really do the job for a very reasonable price. YMMV

  5. I use K2s for my subs. Gobs of power, no fans. And now that I have modified them to stay out of sleep mode at lower gain settings while in bridged mode they fill the ticket. The D75s that I refurb'd to make them like the "Duke" are Ok...but noisy on mids and tweets of Jube system. They have been relegated to surround duty in HT or outdoor/garage systems.

  7. Look into the Wiim Amp. It will work better than Sonos products and handles most streaming platforms, has a good DAC for additional digital sources and even has a Phono pre, iirc.

  8. Does this Type C crossover look all original to you down to the white internal wiring? How do you test the caps to make sure they are still within spec? I have a multimeter handy but know nothing about electronics repair. Thanks.

  9. My K2's don't have the sound quality that my consumer amps have but depending on their setting and application, they can sound very good. High powered Crown amps such as the K2 that I have paired with Klipsch just have serious power. Scary power.....and when you crank it up it's comparable to being at a concert. Didn't have to buy tickets, a t-shirt or pay $10 bucks for a beer. You're there.

  10. In my experience different peoples opinions of "noisy" and how noisy are all over the place..The Topping amps that I use now put the Crowns to shame. YMMV.

  13. I've never owned a Crown amp- been considering one though. I've owned a handful of Samson Pro amps kind of stumbled into them as I received one as a package deal powering some old SVS? cylinder subs. Later on picked up a pair of 18" kp-480? Klipsch subs and nothing I had at the time would run them properly, they sounded flabby. Remembering the SVS sub amp went and looked online and found a 2800 for a couple hundred bucks and thought why not? It woke up those 18's and they actually sounded pretty nice with some power, not really low bass but sure helped to fill out the HIP's that were sitting on top of them I remember thinking this combo sounds like my Chorus II's on steroids. Out of curiosity I put the 2800 on my CH-II's and it really sounded quite good, I was impressed. I believe I preferred the sound over the Carver amps I had at the time but not quite as much as my Sunfire amp. For $200 gobs of power and very decent SQ- I'm guessing that's what the right Crown amp will provide? As for the Samson amps I have a few friends that are still running them today, two as their main stereo amp and one driving a home built 18" sub.

  14. A few days or years ago, I went through djk's postings. To me, he was someone who could swim through circuits and see pretty clearly what was needed. I loved his humor, which can be seen in my sig. More Dennis "If you have a D60/75, adding a 0.1µF film bypass cap (total of 4 needed) to the electrolytic input coupling caps and feedback caps will make it sound vastly better." RIP djk, and thanks

  15. My 'Duke' isn't noisy on mids and tweets. Was excellent on my LS, ad was fine on my Heresy IIs. Currently using XLi800 amps on the Heresy IIs. They are heavy, but it's not like I carry them around.

  20. the sonos amp will work, but the hk amp you mentioned would be better with the heresys. plug a sonos port into the hk and enjoy. an even better option would be to use a bluesound node for the same money.

  21. Late to the party, but I just finished making a pair of the Little Sweetie mono blocks. They sound great. Dead quiet at rest with no hum. I made zebra wood "cases" to wrap the hammond steel chassis. Thanks to Maynard for posting his design.

  25. It's true that Panamax sell those cheap power strips, which are unable to regenerate AC power, filtration of power, isolation of components, balancing power, etc. However Panamax does build some excellent AC Regenerators. I personally use the 5510 ACRegenerator, and it works fine in protecting my equipment and noise filtration. www.panamax.com/products.cfm?group=1&sec=detail&id=260&ly=h I also use Panamax UPS 1500 for protecting the lamp in my projector from power outages, so it can complete the cooling process when there is a power failure. www.panamax.com/products.cfm?group=1&sec=detail&id=259&ly=h

  28. Congratulations. I am also very happy with my Marantz receiver. How does this receiver compare to the SR9600 as both have 140 watts per channel?

  32. Dennis ... your a veritable encyclopedia of Sound........ i have never blown up any of my Com-Techs... i thought the Maco/ Micro -Techs were very similar amps, too different output devices, tho ...?? your leading me to belive the PowerBase, et all.. seemingly are not a good quality amp ...?? that, and i can see you like BGW alot ! i had always used the D-60 in he past as a horn amp, due to the wattage, it would run in the sweet spot in it's S.O.A. -----

  33. Snagged me some Klipsch Heresy 1's today in HBR finish, Type E-2 crossovers very pristine and in original condition. No mods. No alterations. Bone stock and cherry! SN 160Y400 What year were these made? 82? And paid 300.00 I think I did ok for my first REAL speakers? Looks like the Bose goes into mothballs and the Heresy go on the Marantz till I find my Cornwalls Oh and he is holding on to 1 pair of Klipsch KG 5.2 in very good cond(For my HT)and 1 pair of Klipsch Tangent 500 speakers, black ash finish. European version, in GREAT condition! both sets for 400.00 Had to share as my wife could care less LOL So how did I do? good score? Doug

  35. Hi everyone Im new but been lurking for a while:) I have a Marantz 2325 Receiver hooked to *hangs head* Bose 901's Now the question at hand is, What Speakers would match nicely with this receiver? I have a fairly lg room at around 20" X 18" with very high ceiling I have been looking at the La Scala's but I just don't know enough about Klipsch speakers to make a good match up for my amp Thanks for any light you could shine on my little problem DJB

  36. I'm looking to find nice set of La Scala's in the Colorado area for pickup ONLY so I can inspect and test. I can and will drive a bit from Denver to pick up but no shipping would also consider Cornwall's and KHorns. But would really like to have the La Scala's As far as price I'm flexible but would like to keep it under a grand(yea I know I will not find KHorns for this) Help me get out of "Bose 901 hell" I REALLY need to hear "Hot for Teacher" on a GOOD set of speakers! ****After a little more research and study I think the Cornwall's will fit me better so the Cornwall's would be preferred**** Thanks guys Doug

  37. Unfortunately the KH are not really what I want as 1 there huge and 2 my living room is pretty full of furniture and my wife would not stand for a speaker system that large But after a little more reading on here and talking to some folks I think the CW would maybe fit my taste a bit more As I understand it they have a better bass range and dig a bit deeper with the bass. I would rather not have to get a sub but if I have to I will I am slowly loosing my hearing so I want to enjoy some quality sound while I still can Thanks for all the advice! Doug

  40. I'm sorry yea I guess I left some things out I like Classic Rock and I like my tunes at or above ear bleeding level well when my wife is not around! This is a 2Ch system but I will jump off the HT cliff later on LOL As for the room it is 20' x around 18' and the celling is cathedral style around 20+' high As far as hearing the La Scalas, I did hear them a long time ago and fell in love with them Well I hope this helps a little more Doug
