  4. Hi all, I use Audion Sterling EL34 with 2x12watts and I have 12 feet x 13 feet room. I plan to purchase Klipsch Heresy IV. Do you think that this would be a good decision? Thanks in advance. Turgay

  5. Kindly asking for advice, Single-ended circuit, the sound warm and sweet, full and mellow, much softer and more listenable. Pluggable tube socket design, 6N4 can be replaced by 12AX7, 7025, 5751, ECC83 etc. and 6P3P can be replaced by 6L6, 5881, EL34A, EL34B, 6CA7 etc., adding much fun and higher playability Sorry, KT66 and KT88 are not supported Notice: the filament power supply voltage is 12.6V, 6N4 cannot be replaced by the vacuum tubes whose filament power supply voltage is 6.3V such as 6AY11 KT66 is equivalent of 6v6? anyway, is there a way, that i could swap transfo, so it would accept all tube?

  7. OK, here is the topo map with the home site marked in red and the workshop in brown. A view of the river, and a shot of my 1956 CAT D6 just before cutting the drive.

  9. Good idea! The he-shed is nearly finished. The workshop is downstairs, and the office or guest-cottage is upstairs. It does not block the view as it is up at the top of the bluff so it has no view of the river, but a pleasant view of the plateau on the other side of the little canyon. The roof of the shed and the cottage are flat, for rock or opera concerts in the tree tops.

  10. I wonder about the suspension...the spider and surround...playing the speaker should cause the spider to 'loosen up" over time?

  12. Thanks @grindstone and @JRH. That clears it up for me. Aside from the early driver combos available in the k-ortho system, and the more modern combo shown on the 1961 sheet, I've seen pictures of a shorthorn that appears to use k-77 and k-55, but an electrovoice model 15w in place of the k-33. With these networks in hand, I'm tempted to build a pair of shorthorn clones. I'd like to use parts that were originally available from Klipsch for the shorthorn, and I already have spare k-77 and k-55 laying around. Any thoughts on the "better" woofer to use. I have k-33 in a number of speakers in my collection, and have an idea of easily those can be sourced (although the correct vintage is another thing) . Looking over ebay, it doesn't seem like those EV model 15w's are unobtainable, and it might be fun to have a "klipsch sanctioned" driver outside of the regular 77/55/33 line-up. Seems like finding the k-1000s will be the real challenge. I love horns, I've got 400, 500, 600 and 700 in my collection right now. It would be cool to add the little guys.

  13. In addition to the pertinent attachment above, some more food for thought! Generally speaking, the "1000" designation corresponds to the K-1000 horn used in Rebels and Shorthorns. The "500" relates to K-horns. The trapezoidal shape allowed more flexibility in mounting to the top or bottom of the Rebels and Shorthorns.

  20. Of course they are obsolete. Dennis thought they were terrible amps over 30 years ago. Probably long before that. I can only speak of when I knew him.

  21. In my experience different peoples opinions of "noisy" and how noisy are all over the place..The Topping amps that I use now put the Crowns to shame. YMMV.

  23. I believe he was referring to the DC300A, which in the early '80s was really pricey. Then again, the BGW amps were pricey, too. I think they still are.

  24. For humor only, I have to share what Dennis (djk) had to say about most Crown amps: "By 1977 PWK was using the BGW 100, see DFH on 'TIM distortion'. Makes a Crown sound like broken glass." RIP Dennis

  25. I use K2s for my subs. Gobs of power, no fans. And now that I have modified them to stay out of sleep mode at lower gain settings while in bridged mode they fill the ticket. The D75s that I refurb'd to make them like the "Duke" are Ok...but noisy on mids and tweets of Jube system. They have been relegated to surround duty in HT or outdoor/garage systems.

  26. Bullet proof, lots of power, decent sound esp. for use on bass bins. I use several in my basement all horn theater and also have a few for my porch system at my rural place. These are all the newer XLS series. There are certainly better sounding full range amps, but if you want a powerful amp on a bass bin or sub these really do the job for a very reasonable price. YMMV

  27. For me, I am using it to power my dual 18” jbl bass bins on my Jubenstein. I get clear clean signal with lots of power for a reasonable price.

  29. a valid point well taken. I don't want to consider what Ive dropped in amps and speaker rebuild of late, has be close to 1000- may have been better spent on a new piece.

  30. I re-activated my account after years and years (maybe late 2000's was the last time I was here). Just to say, Trey, I have very fond memories of the old Klipsch board and hospitality and "forum appreciation day" from the 2006 or so timeframe down in Indy. It is sad news indeed that you were let go. Sounds like you had a good run but what a gut punch. I still love Klipsch and have the old 1977 CW's and KHorns. I remember getting the drivers from the KHorns tested down at Indy in maybe 2006 or so, and meeting the guy who put them together in 1977 (HDRBuilder, or something like that). Since the late 2000's my main hobby has switched to guitars and amps. Being a brand boi, I really got into Mesa Boogies and lo and behold they were recently bought by corporate Gibson. Mesa's founder Randall Smith seemed to have a lot of the same philosophies as Paul W. Klipsch, in my opinion and their products reflected that. Why am I back here? I googled to see what the latest was with Klipsch as Mesa's founder recently left and they are now owned by Gibson. I guess I was seeing what the future may hold for Mesa Boogie since Klipsch was bought/sold etc more than a decade ago, maybe 15+ years ago. I'm very glad to see that the Heritage line is still around. Anyway, maybe I'll get back in the two channel rabbit hole here someday. I still have tubes and horns for music listening but haven't changed anything since 2008 or so.

  33. I make plenty of typos, mostly due to posting from my phone. I try to catch the errors, and have gone back later to edit. There are many on here whose primary language is not English. Sooooo... welcome to the forums! As Dennis (djk) posted, check the solder joints. If you can solder, it wouldn't hurt to touch them all up. If you disconnect leads from the crossover so you can pull it it out, label them so you reconnect correctly. Lots of help here, ask away and keep us informed. Bruce

  34. Hey guys, I have a pair of Kg3.2's in oiled oak that are up front in my 5.1 setup with a Yamaha RX-V665. I used to have these as speaker B along with my JBL SCS 110 satellite speakers + subwoofer. This was too much to look at for my wife, so I moved the small JBL fronts to the rear and the Kg3.2's will do front duty . . . but I still have the small JBL center channel, which is or appears to be the exact same as the other fronts, which are now in the rear. Confused? I hope not So my thoughts for a visually and sonically balanced setup are to find a Klipsch center channel in oiled oak that can stand/sit next to the tv cabinet my HD tv is sitting on. A key point I need to make is there is not enough room for a typical horizontal center channel to sit on the cabinet just below the tv. Plus the center between the fronts is to the side of the tv. Crazy, but this is the only way it all works in the wide room with fireplace. Any thoughts?

  35. thanks guys. I checked the ebay listing. they look nice, but too rich for my budget right now. I may have to save up a little more and keep my eyes peeled out. Just curious, but can that 2.2VL be put on it's side, vertically? I assume that since the tweeter looks round with no horn that it can. Am I wrong? I searched with "Klipsch KG" and couldn't believe some of the prices some people are asking for other models in this series.

  36. Are you suggesting another 3.2 for the center? If so, I understand the timbre aspect . . . but I don't think my wife will stand for another speaker that size. As it is, she thinks those are too big

  37. So did you make some change in the "7 channel enhancer"? I was wondering about that. It's the setting I keep my set on right now. Seems to sound the best. I do see that the display shows the correct 5.1 setup I have. I made the configuration changes, so that's probably why. I just wonder why they don't have a "5 channel enhancer". They must have known that some users will have a 5 speaker setup. I may have to keep a look out for 2.5's as well as 2.2's. What's the big difference? I suppose I'll look it up and see. I have never looked into how the Kg series is numbered. I just figured that on my 3.2's, it means 3 speakers, with 2 active.

  38. Good idea, thanks! I see you have a Yamaha AVR as well, very closely related to the RX-V665 I got last week. I'm hoping to enjoy it like the Yamaha R-V701 it replaced.

  39. Hmm. Seems like the 2.2 is the way to go. If the price was right, I'd certainly go ahead and get a pair, and just use one. There is a guy locally with a KT-LCR. I don't know yet if it's black, or oak, or . . . the specs on this site say it's THX certified. I don't have THX on my Yamaha, but I assume the certification would mean it is good? BTW, I don't mind spending some time waiting for the right speaker to come along. I'm in no hurry and currently selling another piece of gear to help finance this move.

  40. Good to know, thanks! I'll play around with the setup this weekend. I also have some Boston Acoustics A40 speakers ready to refoam, and I had thought of even putting them in the rear, but don't think my wife would approve

  41. After getting the main wiring hooked up last night to watch some tv, I was surprised at how well the Kg's did. As for not using a center channel, maybe I'm brainwashed . . . to have a 7.2 receiver and only using 4 speakers and sub seems like I'm wasting something . . . but as you say, the reality is whatever setup works for my space and sounds good should be my goal. I may try that out in the next few days. That is, without the center speaker. I haven't tried to use the YPAO microphone that came with the Yamaha to do the proper setup. I'll be curious to see how that effects things. By the way, these Kg's have the Bob Crites titanium diaphragms, which I'm glad I got. I can only imagine how the BEC crossovers would help.

  42. Hmmm. Bummer. I only have about 10-11 inches of width to fit a speaker, so maybe I need a different make? Maybe PSB alpha? I understand what you are saying, but I hope that somebody makes or made a center channel that will work. The small JBL is 6.5 inches wide, 4 inches high, 4.25 inches deep . . . it's not bad, but there has to be something in between that would sound better, right?

  43. I have learned many a lesson...one I stick with is when in doubt stick with Ray! My RB5s were almost painful during the first 20 hours of service. After 25 years of listening I do not think I could have "gotten used to the new sound" in 20 hours. I did most of the break in time all night for 2 weeks when I was not listening.
