Yes-keep what you've got and add a subwoofer. If it's a truly SMALL home theater then replacing your RB-5s with much larger floorstanding speakers just swallows up space and you're still missing the home theater low end. You can even purchase COMPACT subwoofers that will fill the frequency spectrum void nicely such as the SVS SB-1000 or 3000 Micro.
Well we're up to highs in the 50s lately instead of below 25 for day after day. Got good coffee beans again, so the pot gets washed right after and its dry for the next day.
@Invidiosulus y'all have that Cure sound down pretty good! Sounding kind of like hip-reggae could I request some early Police ???
Original owner, stained, varnished and in perfect condition. My wife and I are downsizing, and these beauties need room to play! Just joined this forum and seeing what kind of interest there is.
Would there be any benefit to adding a heavy felt to the “face board” on a pair of 1979 Khorns? My thoughts are maybe less baffle reflection interference for the tweeter and squeaker frequencies?
+1. Adding a sub will fill out the bass and then you can run the front left and right as small speakers with a higher crossover point instead of full range resulting in a cleaner midrange. Is the RC3 the timbre-matched center for the RB5’s? If not, finding the correct matched center for the L/R speakers will also help with clarity. I’m not familiar with the Klipsch center speakers. I did own RB5’s and Heresy II (not at the same time) and the RB5 were a better match for my room and system.
Sounds like he's looking for some improvement and not just bass? What a lot of people don't seem to realize is the RC-7 center speakers are basically the same exact size (width and depth) as these bookshelf speakers, the RB-5 / RB-75 only taller when stood on end but are significantly superior in performance, much closer to tower speaker than any other bookshelf made by Klipsch. The RC-7 has an 8" square horn with a 1.75" driver and dual 8" woofers with a tapered array crossover. If you're patient you can probably get three of them for a grand or less. @SilverSport would be blown away at the performance upgrade without having to rearrange anything as they'd fit right where the RB-5's sit.
I believe stepping up the LCR could be a nice improvement should benefit from a "larger" more detailed sound. I personally prefer the RC-7 for small TV use ran a pair in stereo for a couple years believe they are the best considering price / size ratio you could probably find an LCR of RC-7's for less than a pair of H-2's and not be lacking in performance.
