  1. Ok... Thanks for advise and opinions...I think i will check out those Sen. 497. I got to thinking today that without headphone amp - they are not going to do their best - which would be a shame and money wasted ( since i also want to use new set with iPOD . I took iPOD today to Good Guys to listen to 590 - and even though they sounded great, player did not have enough juice to move these, so i will probably kick it down a notch since im gonna be listening to MP3 and play games in these headphones.
  2. formica - - I do know that when i get my own place - i will want to have a decent set of headphones to listen to music ( CDs, radio, maybe even movies)...so i figure getting them a bit early is not going to hurt. justin_tx_16- - $250 is way out of my budget for headhpones. I mean $150 (like for HD590) is the best i can do here - and i think thats pretty damn good considering that i often can't tell difference between $500 and $2000 speakers. Why do you say that i should look into 580's? I've heard that quite a few people had some issues with cables on those. I did also hear that supposedly they sound closer to 600 . I've listened to 570, 590 and Phillips 910 -and 590 were the best. oogins- what kind of sound card do you use with 590's? Does it can a built-in amp ? do cans get enough juice with that card? Do you listen to MP3s, play games, listen to CD's or radio in those?
  3. Good job man. Just make sure you give enough cooling to CPU and Nforce chipset ( when overclocked - it often requires active cooling). I personally use Silenser low speed fans in my PC's - they are quiet and give enough air movement. http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/products/alarmandaccesories/silencerfan/ I used to work in computer shop assembling PC's and servers...( 5 years ago). I remember when i got there someone has ordered an awesome workstation - p2 350 with 370 meg of SDRAM, 12meg Voodoo card in adition to Matrox Millennium. That was such a screamer...Then celeron's A came out - you could clock those twice the speed of the original spec speed. Ahh... fun old times
  4. Hey all Im looking to buy some nice headphones as i figured its the best thing to do for midnight listening and so on. Of course i will be using them mostly with my PC that right now has Audigy2 ( yea i know its not the best...) Anyway - do you think it makes sense to buy sennheiser hd590 for listening to mp3 format? I mean most of them are low bitrate ~160. So will these nice phones produce a really crapy sound because of poor quality of MP3's or will i be just fine? I'm not into high volume or heavy music- more like quite and mellow...( and sometimes electronica). What you say - good choice/idea? This is perhaps tops for my budget too... (oh boy - first $400 PC speakers, now $200 earphones...- why did i need the speakers again?) Anyway - i want to hear your opinions and maybe if someone used these or close model - tell me your impressions. thanks
  5. neon lights....fast...furious...
  6. that will be a waste...32bit on 64 bit CPU. Even XP64 wont be much better as it will be running most apps in 32bit mode. Kind of like Windows on Windows in NT for 16 bit apps. An extra layer that will not take advantage of the CPU potential. In order to get most out of it you will need to run some true 64 bit OS *nix based with their apps. I still will go for G5....
  7. I've got only 1 question - what OS are you going to run on that setup...
  8. What I really want is a dual G5... On the other hand - i can take an applebread 2400+(2000 real) CPU and make a full-on Barton out of it, then clock it to 2.6 real Ghz... So to get close to Barton 3200+ all i need is a $50 CPU and a good MB like Abit NF7-S
  9. TheEAR -- Intel EE CPU's get only 5-7% speed increase due to more cach. They cant be really compared to Opterons.
  10. Yea system looks good but couple points: Its better to have 2 sticks of identical ram so you can use dual channel on memory controller. This will give you a slight speed increase - but for this you will either have to get 2x256 or 2x512. Better get a kit with CAS2. Now for heatsink fan - i personally like Zalman 7000Cu. Don't know if it will fit your case/mb combo though. HD - if you have EXTRA cash - get a 36 gig WD Raptor ( 10.000 RPM SATA disk - fast as hell, very close to SCSI perfomance). On Motherboard - i assume you are getting NF7-S which has SOundStorm ( DolbyDigital encoder 5.1) - right? With good colling and good parts - you can push your CPU upto ~2.6 real GHz. But your rig looks good right now... im just talking about EXTRA stuff. For video i recommend Radeon anywhere from 9500 (non pro) and up. Its best to have 8 piplines and 256bit access on memory. Cuz some radeons are downgraded to use 4 pipes and 128bit access.
  11. it looks somewhat like a new asian movie called "the eye"...
  12. Yea CD-Ex is one of the best ( since its free, windows based and flexible) I use MusicMatch player to do the encoding.
  13. $169 here for 4.1 http://www.tweeter.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1163181&cp=1176506.1181263&parentPage=family or $186 with free shipping http://www.gameve.com/store/gameve_viewitem.asp?idproduct=191
  14. Not 100% sure on this, but i believe they reworked speakers and amp section on the 4.1 Plus it gets an extra stereo IN on the control speaker, headphones out and something else that i cant remember. v2-400 can be bought for as low as 128+25 shipping on ebay or 186 with free shipping from gameve.com Try your local CompUSA store - mine had Klipsch 5.1 for a pretty good price. Sales person said these are some of the last ones and they dont expect to get any soon. Just dont forget that you might have to send them in for replacement if they die...
