  1. It really depends on what you want to do with it and how well you can control yourself. If you already have good riding skills and want to take it to the track eventually or if you want to do stunts - i would recommend Suzuki GSX-R 750. It has power closer to the litter bikes of just a few years ago, but at the same as light as a 600cc. On the other hand if you know that you will be racing from a traffic light and doing other things you should not do on public roads - then by all means get a 400cc. Now before anyone suggests that 400cc is a wimpy bike - it's not. Yes, it doesn't have the same "GO" power as bikes with bigger engines, but what it lacks in power, it makes up in lightness and ease of control. Because the bike has a small engine, it's an inertia machine that you have to use very differently than a bike where you can just twist the throttle and do a wheelie. But that allows you to flick the bike from side to side a lot easier since it has a lot less mass and much lighter wheels which work as gyro's. So you don't have to work as a hard pushing it from side to side. When we used to come back from a ride on bigger bikes - our suits would be soaked in sweat because going from corner to corner on a big bike is a lot of work. You can carry more speed through turns on a lighter bike, you can lean easier, you can lean further without getting freaked out. The secondary benefit of the 400cc is the amount of money it may cost. They are usually cheaper and servicing them can be cheaper (tires, oil, breaks, etc), unless you get an exotic one. A 250 CC can be even more fun on twisty roads or a track, but much less so on long straights. For the city - 400cc is plenty. Take a look at Kawasaki Ninja 250R and 300. Those are fun and very light.
  2. Doesn't look like any Klipsch i've seen, but appears to be in outstanding condition. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/ele/3678475670.html http://images.craigslist.org/3L13J23l25Nd5E35M9d3ced861787ed6512ae.jpg
  3. If you can - visit local stores like Costco, Fry's, etc. I know Costco carries some Yamaha and Pioneer models, at least occasionally. So you can try one at home and then take it back if it's not what you've expected. To me, it's worth to pay $50 locally vs internet price just so i can take it back if it breaks early or if i'm unhappy with the unit.
  4. It's common for some models. In fact, i had the S580 (before it died on the very first bluray that i've tried to play on it) and it was loud when spinning up the disk. The S590 that i got as replacement is much much quieter.
  5. I use it with RF-7 and RC-7...On content with heavy lows, i get the lows... but in regular TV or some music - i feel like it lacks mid-low and it leaves me with a feeling that it's not programmed correctly. On the other hand Elite that i had before was very well rounded in all respects.
  6. I own 1910 and to be honest i'm not impressed with mid-range Denon. I was much happier with Pioneer when i had an older Elite version. It doesn't seem to produce the same warmth as Pioneer did, lacking in the mid-low range for my taste (and thats after multiple calibration runs).
  7. I agree that it's a personal choice issue and you should get whatever makes you happy. For some - it's Oppo 105, for me it is Sony BDP-BX59 for $89 from costco. Has all the quality and features i want, plus it was inexpensive. Considering that electronics does fail from time to time (like my previous bluray player that just died recently), i won't feel too bad if this one keels over suddenly. It also makes upgrading it less of a mental exercise as i have hard time justifying upgrading something every expensive. I also have hard time understanding where the increase in quality would come from in terms of picture or sound, as all of the recordings are digital and reader (bluray player) is just like a floppy drive in a computer - it will read the data, but all of the interpretation and presentation of the data will be done elsewhere. I guess they could try to make it load disks faster, have more ram for snappier experience on interactive disks, use better quality plugs and longer lasting components so it won't die like a cheaper unit. I have not seen or heard Oppo, so i can't say that it does or does not have something on less expensive units, but i'm sure those who decided to get one are perfectly happy with it.
  8. don't know why when pasting formated text here it becomes all messed up, but i'm tired of using html to fix it. Klipsch really needs to fix this forum
  9. Not cheap, but if you are looking for RC or RS7 - in mind condition, maybe worth a look. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/ele/3661650272.html IN ORIGINAL BOX,PACKING Klipsch RF-7 black (brand new in box) $1700.00 Klipsch RC-7 black (brand new in box) $600.00 Klipsch RS-7 black (brand new in box) $520.00 Klipsch Chorus I Walnut $700.00 Consecutive serial numbers Klipsch Quintet II,With KSW 10 $400...BRAND NEW never used Klipsch Academy Black Center $260.00 In the original box Monster Z3 bi wire 10 foot pair ( in case) $240.00 Monster Z3 bi wire center channel cable 10 feet ( in case) $140.00
  10. just looked at the price of that thing - $1200! Good for you if you can afford and enjoy. I've just got a replacement for my Sony that failed, and got a new model with 3D, WiFi and the rest (retail $150 on sale at costco for $90) and i'm stoked. To bad my TV is 40", no 3D ...
  11. if at all possible, i would suggest restoring or refinishing instead of painting. They will retain better value and heritage resemblance that way. Thats what i did to a pair of Heresy that i've bought. After buying tools, supplies, spending 3-4 days restoring and selling them - i didn't make any more (actually just broke even, no counting my labor). But at least they have looked like new. Ironically, my best Klipsch scores have been on sets in perfect condition.... I've patched the holes, sanded the cabinets, painted motorboard, fixed wiring connections on the back, cleaned up the grills and woofers, reglued badges, restored chiped corners, stained them.
  12. Own a Denon, would rather go with Pioneer. Owned Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo. Of all them - Pioneer (higher end ones) had the best sound and best remote. Onkyo had the least exciting sound and Denon has the worst remote. If you are in the states and live close to Fry's Electronics - check out their weekly/daily ads and specials. They always have a few receivers on sale - right now a 7.1 Denon 1913 for $399 and Yamaha HTR-4065BL for $319. If you can swing for Pioneer SC-1222-K - by all means check it out and get one if you can/like it. --- UPDATE --- just read original post again... if this is just for TV/Movie with a basic Klipsch 5.1 system and doesn't need to push any big speakers. Get a mid grade AVR on sale somwhere (like the Yamaha above) or Denon 1613 for $288 at Frys. Or NewEgg.com has YAMAHA RX-V573BL for $340! They will do great!
  13. I believe these are CF3, since CF4 has bigger woofers and CF2 only one port on the bottom, but not 100% positive. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/msg/3552933614.html

Yes, old stock from stores warehouses that NewEgg bought up. They are out of production.
  15. If you need a high quality AVR, i would try top Pioneer from regular line (i believe it's the same as one of their Elite models). Or if you can - just got for the Elite versions. I don't have experience with Emotiva or other specialized amps, but I've tried a number of AVRs. My favorite in terms of fullness of sound and lows is a Pioneer Elite. I've had onkyo and it was very flat, now i run Denon, but want to go back to Pioneer. Also a highend vitnage amp/receiver such as early-late 70s Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui, etc will give you very pleasant sound. That's if you don't need all of the fancy AVR features. I'm a big fan of the retro gear, so i'm biased here.
  16. If you live near Fry's Electronics - they got Alien Anthology on Bluray (6 disk set, 4 movies plus many extras) for $20. http://www.frys.com/product/6405282?site=sa:adpages%20page:P9_SUN%20date:011313
  17. Just got myself a 6 disk set for $25:
  18. We must have watched two different movies by the same name ...I thought it was one of the worst movies in the past 5 years. Wish i could get back the time i've wasted on it. My rating would be 0 on 0-10 scale.
  19. Tron Legacy . The plot is exactly what one would expect it to be, but he music score is great... one of the better ones i've heard this year
  20. Ugh, unless he has to dig in permafrost to install those cables - $8 a foot is a ripoff. The specs don't mean much without knowing were and how the cable needs to be installed/run. If it is just inside a single family residence then something like this will work great 250ft 14AWG CL2 Rated 2-Conductor Loud Speaker Cable (For In-Wall Installation) - $49 http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023902&p_id=2821&seq=1&format=2 Anything thicker than 14AWG may be hard to terminate/connect to speakers. Yes, it is inexpensive, and no - it's not junk cable. Monoprice is used by many installers as source for the cables and connectors. Of course there are those like "the guy" who will sell Pear cable and $150 ceramic cable supports.
  21. There was one at Costco - 3 levels for equipment and a back steel arm that was supporting the TV on a swivel mount. I think it was $199 or so and works well at my home. I didn't use the steel arm to mount the TV (wall mounted) but the stand supports 2 receivers, game concol, DVD, digital media player, cable box and RC-7 (which is about as heavy as you get with center channels)
  22. Make sure you have plugged in into the right place on the sub. Often times you just need one RCA cable on a specific plug. Does sub have a "volume/gain" dial? if yes - try that. Make sure your source material has LFE channel or that receiver is set to mix the track into 5 channel stereo or some such. Even if your sub is setup correctly but source doesn't have an LFE track - it will not play unless receiver is told to mix into 5.1
  23. True - the specs are very misleading, but they can get away with it because it is almost never the case to drive all channels at the same time at full power.
  24. Icon series appear to be a replacement of the Synergy line. VB15 will work, but you should have bought the VS14s if these speakers will only do the surround part and not used as mains at any point in time
  25. Don, i don't know which 3D is the best, but i do know that 3D TVs don't have a better pictures than all 2D TVs. My friend just got a 55" 3D LED LCD television and it is suffering from severe "flashlighting" where corners or certain parts of the screen exhibit a bright spot during dark scenes. Many good 2D TVs don't suffer from this effect.
