  1. That's an awfully generous offer, and I wish I could accept, but the RC-52 is the absolute max size for the space I have
  2. Hi guys - I've been looking for an RC-52 II for a few weeks now, but a RC-52 just fell into my lap for a very good price. The specs look very similar, but I'm wondering if there are any significant differences between these two speakers. What did the second generation bring to the table? Thanks everyone!
  3. Hi guys - looking for a RC-52 II. Don't care about condition, as long as it's not *too* beat up. Located in central Arkansas, but shipping is okay too.
  4. I'm definitely not a sophisticated HT listener, so I'm also looking for a "good enough" solution. If I throw a RC-42 II up on the mantel, will it at least sound okay with the RF-7's? The RC-3 we use now sounds fine for our needs.
  5. I've thought about doing a phantom center, but I'm concerned that I'd have "anchoring" problems since people will be sitting in all areas of this room. It's not a "dedicated" theater room with a sweet spot in the middle. I'm thinking that a prominent center will anchor the dialog/etc to the TV area, no matter where you're sitting in the room. Am I way off base with that line of thinking?
  6. We have a RC-3 now, and it does fine. However it's almost twice as tall as the RC-42 II, which means our TV would be even 5" higher. The RC-3 is 97db sensitive and the RC-42 II is 95db - is that enough to make a substantial difference?I'm also looking at the RC-52 II, which is only about an inch taller. Just 95dB to 96dB from the 42, but about 50w difference in power handling. the decibel thing will be corrected when your eq runs level matching. However rc-42 or 52 will have a much smaller sound due to the horn size. But if you've been just fine with the rc-3 don't let us change your mind. Just install that bad boy and enjoy. I've owned all the center in the reference lineup and don't think the rc-42ii to rc-52ii is not a big jump for the money. What do you think about the RC-3 > RC-52 II? Similar specs, but 12 years newer. I can tell you that there ain't no way we're throwing a RC-64 up on that mantel That joker is waaaay too big (and expensive).

  8. Hi guys - trying to configure our center channel arrangement for the new house, and I'm on the fence about something. We've decided (by "we" I really mean my wife) to mount the TV above the mantel, and now I have to place the center channel. I was going to mount it under the mantel using a custom enclosure mounted to the bottom of the mantel, above the fireplace. But there's the obvious heat concerns, plus the fact that the RC-42 II that I've selected would poke out roughly 3" beyond the mantel's front. The wife has vetoed that pretty strong, so that leaves the top. On our sectional our ear height is about 45", and this arrangement will put the center channel up around 64". Will that ~20" height difference affect our sound? Our mains, RF-7s, have tweeters that are quite a bit lower, I believe. Do y'all think our soundstage will sound funky with that height disparity?
  9. Hi guys, I have a Cayin TA-30 amp that I purchased approximately 7 or 8 years ago, and I've come to a point where I should probably sell it. I finally took the digital AVR plunge for a HT system, and the TA-30 is just sitting in a cabinet by itself. Do you guys have any idea what it may be worth, or would there be any interest here? It does sound fabulous hooked up to RF-7's :-) Thanks!
  10. I think I'm going to put our RC-3 beneath the TV in the entertainment center and build a custom shelf for the TV. However, I'm a little worried that may put the TV too high for a viewing angle. We propped the TV up about 8" higher than normal the other night and watched a show, and it seemed fine. I'm still concerned though.... Has anyone used a VESA mount/bracket to put their center directly above the TV? The RC-3 weighs 30 lbs, so obviously it needs to be a pretty solid contraption. Thinking of something like this, but one that mounts into the VESA bracket itself: http://www.omnimount.com/Product/Specialty_Products/Set-top_Component_Shelf/CCH1/ I'm also considering a projector mount to hang the center down. I just don't like the idea of drilling into the RC-3's cabinet.
  11. Bought a gently-used RC-3 today for $130! I'll let you guys know how it sounds
  12. Aye, there's the rub. Most "7 x 100 watt" receivers may put out 100 watts to two or even three channels, but when powering more channels, the power per channel drops off rapidly, to 5 x 60 or 7 x 40, or something in those ranges. The limiting factor seems to be the power supply, not the individual amp channels. If you ask the dealer about it, they may say something like, "Yes, it's a bit misleading, but all the other manufacturers do it, so nobody would buy our receivers if we rated our 7-channel 100Wpc receiver at 7 x 40, so we have to do like they do..." I guess the question now is whether 2 x 50 would be better than 1 x 100.
  13. Hi Bill, Well, the receiver is 100wpc, and it's designed specifically so that you can "bi-amp" using the front output and the back surround outputs if they aren't in use. I assume that means the front channel is sending 100w and the back surround channel is sending 100w. Maybe it doesn't actually work that way - someone correct me if I'm wrong. If the amp is capable of sending 100 watts each to seven channels (or however many it has), why can't it send 200 watts over two channels to one set of speakers? Oh, and the amp is an Onkyo TX-SR608.
  14. I'll check in the owner's manual to make sure, but wouldn't the amp serve as the crossover if you're using its bi-amping feature? So I'll have to disable the crossover inside the speaker? I'm not real sure I'm up to that, so I may just forget about it
  15. Hey guys, I have what's probably a dumb question. I'm buying an Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver for my HT, and I'll be using it with RF-7's. I've read that you can use the amp's back surround outputs to bi-amp your fronts. The amp is 100wpc, so I assume the speakers would be getting 200w total. I know this wouldn't be exactly the same as using two actual amps, but would it be pretty close? I assume it would at least be more effective than a single channel.
  16. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=249-727 They are 1/4"-20 screws, so I think they'll fit. Can I just use these spikes directly on the bottom of the speaker cabinet? I lost the "feet" a long time ago!
  17. Oh, and dumb question: will I have any vibration issues with the TV if I sit it directly on top of a RC-3?
  18. Since the RC-7 is only 1db more sensitive than the RC-3, I think I'll look for the RC-3 because of its smaller size. Looks like I could find one for about $125 or so. If it won't work with the TV sitting on top, I could always put it up high and aim down. Thanks everyone for steering me in the right direction!
  19. Here's a picture of the entertainment center. If I really can put the RC-7 that high and I can find one for around $150, I would be open to it. I feel that I need a center channel because our main complaint right now (with no surround) is that we have a very hard time hearing dialogue. That's with the RF-7's coming from a 2-channel amp. On a 5.1 setup with a digital amp, wouldn't the receiver still try to route the dialogue to a center channel that isn't there? Or could it be programmed to route it to the RF-7's? Wouldn't a RC-42 II be better than no center channel at all?
  20. Well, our entertainment center is about 7.5' high, and our ear level is about 35", so it would be pretty darn high. Could it be that high and be aimed down that much? It would almost have to be at a 45-degree angle to be aimed at our ears.
  21. How does it sound? And approach your answer from a "Is this acceptable for the money I've spent" attitude.
  22. I hear you on the RC-7, guys. I've looked into it, and I can see three problems: 1) Where am I gonna find one? Can't even find one used 2) It's FAR too big for our current setup. We'd have to get rid of a $2000 entertainment center that we love and figure out a different setup to have room for the RC-7. As long as we live in this house I don't think that's going to happen. That will have to be a "next house" thing. 3) Even used I think it will be far beyond my budget. I know I could wait a few months and save up, but I had to beg and plead with the Boss to spend $1000 on this stuff, and adding another $200 or $300 (or more?) for a center channel would probably blow her fuses I've had the idea to find a RC-3 or RC-42 ii and crank up its level and lower the RF-7's levels a bit. That should correct the sensitivity issue - at least somewhat. You guys are implying that would be an absolutely horrible idea and sound terrible. Is that because I'm on a Klipsch forum full of audiophile purists who only accept perfection, or because it actually *would* sound horrible? I mean that in the nicest possible way of course :-) Like I said, I'm only looking for "pretty darn good for $1000" - not absolute HT harmonious perfection. I can always do that later when we can afford much nicer stuff.
  23. Understood. Lets suppose that I'm not after "perfect" sound, and that I just want a 5.1 HT system that sounds pretty darn good for $1000 worth of stuff (not counting the RF-7's) and that the RC-42 ii is just one part of that equation. As opposed to using a non-horn speaker, wouldn't I at least be in the same ballpark?
  24. Hey guys, I have a pair of RF-7's that I'd like to use as mains for a digital 5.1 setup. I'm reading that it's important to match timbres across the front three channels, so I'd like to pair up a horn-type Klipsch center with the RF-7's. The following are in (or close to) my budget: C10 Synergy C1 RC-42 II What do you guys think of those? Ideally I need to be in the $100 range, but I could stretch to $150. I'd have to find a used RC-42 II in that price range. Thanks!!
  25. Nevermind. It's the pair of Monster Cable interconnects I was using on the DVD player. The Signal Cables are on the CD player, and they don't make a peep. Monster Crap is more like it. -Jesse
