  1. How do Belles stack up to Khorns in the general hierarchy of things? I live in CA, and I got the $1600, but I ain't got the space...
  2. As I'm sure you all know, SVS has their new PB10-ISD sub shipping in a month, and is taking preorders now. However, the current preorder price is $399, with the actual price "TBD." I guess it'll be determined once shipping begins. What I'm wondering is, since the spec sheet touts this sub as a $400 price-class sub, what possible price difference there could be? It's not like buying this sub NOW would be saving any money, as opposed to buying it when it fully ships, right? Right??

I just can't imagine anyone not liking 4 Khorns, 2 vertical Cornwalls, and a La Scala playing at the same time with your favorite tunes playing? Call me crazy! ---------------- Amen! My sentiments exactly with 4 RF7's 2 RF5's, an RC7, and 250 watts of pure, balanced power coursing through each!

A few years ago I bought that cool looking Nakamichi Sound Space unit that was super flat and hung on a wall. Looked f*cking sexy as hell, but sounded like sh!t in a plastic bucket. I returned it a few days later. $800 just didn't justify the tin can sound. ZIAD - while few here have experienced the THX system, and even fewer with the Premier series (if any at all), the generalizations I've heard/read were that the THX system is ideally suited for movies only, whereas I'd assume the premier series is tailored for both movies and music.
  5. I agree with Dougdrake regarding coax. It's more durable and, to my ears, sounds better. If you plan to run an extended length though, or have a TON of wires from your components, optical/toslink might be a better choice due to its imperviousness to interference. However, I'd recommend banana plugs over bare wire, even IF you were not to remove them frequently, only because over time the wire may oxidize.
  6. The original RF-3, and later the updated RF-3II, both had the grills of the RF-5 and RF-7. Only the latest RF-15, 25, and 35 versions have the sexy flushed magnet design. I guess if Klipsch ever made an RF-55 or RF-75, then they too would feature those types of grills. But until then...yeah man...just gotta live with it.
  7. I interpret "neutral" as meaning "transparent." You'd prefer "colored?"

  9. Just a stab in the dark, but just judging from your SN, do you have an 89 Corolla SR5? Oh, and yeah, what Audio Flynn said.

It just seems more "full" than the RF-7's alone, with 2 channel music the RF-7's seem VERY bright and lacking in the low end. When I switch it to 5 channel stereo, the low end is MUCH better and the sound seems fuller. ---------------- Wrong! Bad bad bad! Bad man! Go sit in the corner and put on your dunce hat. Nah, haha jk. This is exactly the case with me too. Your preamp/receiver's stereo mode DSP might be a little bright for the RF7's, so you could try tweaking it a bit until it sounds full, which it can. But in general, like you, I like surround (I actually listen to music in 7.1, with the main L and R louder than the rest) better than just plain stereo. Naturally, it sounds fuller, because it literally is fuller.
  11. Wait a minute...are you guys engaged or soon-to-be? Otherwise, she should have no say over your system!
  12. Tom, haha, yeah, I must admit Stereophile has influenced me somewhat. And Ray, wow man, I really feel for ya...that description of your local theaters sounds horrendous. I've been to quite a few like that around here too, but they're usually the ones reserved for the smaller independant films. There are never holes in the screen though! But there is a lot of sticky stuff on the floor... ...once I even found a fork sticking upright in a seat! Girlfriend was NOT happy!
  13. How's it look now that you've applied the Cherry/Maple glaze?

  17. Picky's right. It's Brenda J. Arnau, sometimes credited as B.J. Arnau. Here is the source: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070328/fullcredits
  18. Frzninvt and MrMcGoo are right, as they always are. But just so you don't immediately go running out and buying outboard amps or tossing your 3805 in favor of a dedicated preamp, know that while RF7's sound vastly better with quality amplification (but then again, what speaker DOESN'T sound better with quality amplification?), the receiver you have will make them sound excellent as well. So again, to reiterate, if you have the cash then by all means, go the way of seperates to truly push the envelope of what your RF7 investment can do. Conversely, it's not like they weren't designed to sound great on a great receiver as well, of which your 3805 most definitely is.
  19. Picky, maybe for Christmas you could get Ben a set of RF-15s or RF-25s. Those wouldn't break the bank, and I'm sure they'd satisfy him and his wife a lot more than their Bose setup.
  20. Obviously, opinions will vary. But my opinion, after listening to both? SVS. Take my word for it. Think of it as a leap of faith. =)
  21. Yeah, it does kind of depend on where you live. If you live in an apartment or condo or somewhere that suffers from shared power lines, chances are you're getting more than just dirty power. Maybe when the fridge turns on, or someone fires up an electric drill, or a high-powered lamp is flipped on, the voltage running through your place sags. The lights dim. Your TV picture turns to sh!t. Maybe you've noticed some days your system sounds great, and the picture is stellar, and the next day everything leaves you wondering if you were dreaming because it sounds so bad. On the other hand, perhaps you're lucky and live somewhere where you receive relatively steady 120 volt power. I have Monster's 2 top of the line units (HTPS 7000 and AVS 2000), and I've not really noticed any dramatic difference in anything. Well, perhaps the color saturation on my TV was slightly better, but it could just be placebo as well. Granted, I only have my source components plugged into them (HD tuner, CD changer, DVD player, VCR, etc.), as any attempt to plug an amp (much less both of my amps) into them would fry the units faster than the blink of an eye. So if nothing else, you might want to think about a Monster unit for surge protection. While people might disagree with me on this, PS Audio makes several products, such as their Power Director, Ultimate Outlets, and Power Plants, that have been proven to clean up, filter, balance, and maintain steady AC current via computer tests and sine wave analysis. I myself have demoed these products when attached and not attached to high-end gear, and the difference is nothing less than dramatic. I was sold. Wider sound stage, more presence in the mid-range, tighter bass, all that jazz, and then some. Call me a fanboy, maybe I am, but these things DO work. They are what Monster only dreams on achieving, multiplied by 10. And no, it's not snake oil, smoke and mirrors, placebo, or anything else you want to call it. They're more than just line conditioners, which is what Monster's products are. Problem is that you pay a hefty (and I do mean hefty) price for these... ...the Power Plant alone costs $4000.
  22. k i told him
  23. Oh my God, do they have killer systems? I don't even have the words to describe how brilliant the experience is. The bass is monstrous, like a thunderous beast roaring at your mother, knashing it's fangs at your little sister, pounding your heart like a bassdrum. And yet controlled like a teacup poodle on a steel leash. The mids are rich, enveloping, and utterly smooth, like warm drizzled chocolate truffle sauce imported from Belgium. The highs are simply transparent. They make the entire auditorium a sweet spot. Hardly recessed, and yet nowhere near sparkling...they simply grab you by the balls, consume you whole, chew you up like Jaws, and then spit you back out a shuddering, goose-bumped idiot whose jaw has slammed to the ground with inexplicable awe. You don't just hear the movie -- hell, you don't even experience it -- you LIVE it. And this 30.10 magic (yes, there are about that many speakers and subs) all occurs amidst the backdrop of golden silence. ...pauses for effect... Oh, and Mann's chinese totally shows movies. If anyone ever comes down to LA, your trip will not be complete without watching a flick at one of the three aforementioned cinemas. Otherwise you disgrace your brethren of the audiophile race.
  24. Well! Glad that you've joined the cult!
  25. Yeah man, I was like you in the beginning too. SVS? The hell is that? Reason is cause it's an internet direct brand only, which in effect eliminates the middle-man mark-up. Which means a $1000 sub is more like a $2000 sub if it were sold in an actual store. So that's also why you never see this brand in a store...although go into any high end store and I promise you the salespeople will know of SVS. Anyway, point being, these subs are dope. You want something that hits low and hard, but doesn't lose its musicality? You found it, bro.
