  1. I have been thinking about picking up a Pioneer VSX01018 myself, but after yesterdays announcment of the VSX-1019 coming out in April, I think I will wait. The new one has 4 HDMI inputs and Faroudja processing for upconverting to 1080p. Its going to run about $500. The new VSX-919 seems to be the current 1018 ( has all the same features and the 3 hdmi inputs ) for $400.
  2. Browsing throughout the variousgroups here on the forums I have seen people seem to come into posession of just the raw drivers and horns from many different models of Klipsch speakers and I was curious as to how you come about them? Like the guy on the subwoofer forum who got the dual 15" drivers from the RSW-15. I know some people sale drivers on E-bay, but there has to be other ways. Does Klipsch sale just raw drivers direct?
  3. Thanks for the posts everyone. I have considered doing the pro audio amps in the past, but I don't think I am going to have the kind of room needed for that many amps. I will barely have room for a pre/pro and 7 channel amp as it is. Although, I still may nix that whole idea and just do the Pioneer reciever ( can get a heck of a deal on it ). I don't really plan on doing much music listening. I purchased my current speaker system ( Def Tech ) based on how I loved their sound for music, without ever listening to them in a ht setup. Ever since then, while they do the job very well, I have wished I would have gotten the Klipsch system that I had been listening too on the sales floor for so long as prefer the sound of them for movies. At that time I figured my movie/music mix would be 50/50 so the ones I got would be better suited. But as it turns out, I am a 95% movie watcher versus 5% music in the house. Also, and this coming from my car audio background, part of me wants to tinker with a D.I.Y. system, and may just choose to go that route with a sub.
  4. I have listened to all the V seris several times each. I'll give my impressions, however I admit it was on a Best Buy sales floor so not in the most ideal environment, nor am I any kind of a expert at reviews or anything. This is just what my ears could tell. I was also able to compare them next to the synergy line as Best Buy had them on the same shelf/reciever as the Icons. VB-15 = bookshelf with 5.25" woofer. To me its not too bad a speaker, but did seem the woofer had a hard time keeping up with the horn. I didn't like it at all with the music I was playing through it. Just sounded smallish to me. Absolutely needs a sub. Compared to the Senergy series bookselfs next to it ( B2 and B3 ) it seemed to have more volumn than either did on the high frequencies. Both the Synergy series had a better match between the horns and mids, but neither seemed to jump out at me like this one did. I prefer the looks of the V series over the synergies. I came off feeling they needed better low end response. Maybe a 6.5" mid version would be better. I'm kinda indifferent towards these. VC-25 = center channel with dual 5.25" woofers. Sounded exactly like the VB-15, only that the mids were able to keep up with the horn a bit better ( probably because there are two of them versus just 1 in the vb-15 [8-)] ). If I were doing a small bookshelf style setup for music listening, I would choose 2 of these over the VB-15's. May actually make a decent l/c/r pair for a small home theater setup as well. Definatly needs a sub. It destroyed the synergy line C2 that was sitting next to it, but it is a bit larger. I liked this center ok. VS-14 = suround with 1 4" mid and 2 horns. It was hard to really judge these while on a shelf wired up as a stereo speaker pair. So I wont really say anything else about them as far as sound is concerned. They look good. VF-35 = towers with 3 5.25" woofers. Had a nice balanced sound to it. At the volumns I was able to get it too until people started looking at me awkwardly it seemed to be a good speaker. Needs a sub to help with low end as it seemed to roll off fairly quick. Had a tight response that I liked. When I played this in conjuction with the VC-25 they were a good match. I was pleased with them. Sounded better to me than the synergy F2, but lacked the low end of the F3. VF-36 = towers with 3 6.5 inch woofers. These sounded great. I really liked them. Still need a sub for some of the low end, but I would say that these were clean down to around 50-60hz. I liked the quick attack of the thre 6.5's. They do seem to have a different sound than the rest of the Icon V lineup, but I couldn't wrap my mind around "how" they sounded different. I didn't think they were a good match with the VC-25. I think a dual 6.5" center would be a better match for these. Its hard to explain. By my listening, if I were to do a Home Theater setup using this line of speakers, there are only 2 setups I would go with. The VC25 center along with the VF35 towers, or do 3 VC25 centers in a left/center/right setup ( and indeed my dad may go this route to replace his aging synergy sb-2, sc1, ss1 setup ).
  5. I can get them at such a good deal cause I know a place that is getting rid of the Reference line and I have some contacts within said place. To be honest, while looking at these and the awesome deal I get, The new Emotiva ERM6.3's have caught my eye. As mentioned in my first post, I have a thing for all 3 front speakers being exactly the same, and I like 3 way designs. Unfortunatly for me, I cannot afford Klipsch's 3 way design offering ( Palladium ). If my Plasma were going on the wall I may even do 3 RF83's across the front and call it a day. But I do not like my tv's to be as high as it would have to be to accomplish that feat. Wonders if Klipsch woudl consider making 3 way Ref series in the future using a similar mid horn/tweeter horn setup as to whats in the Palladiums? [*-)] So what does everyont thing about my possible amplification choices? The Pioneer reciever or spend the extra and go with the Emotiva seperates?
  6. Its time for me to update/upgrade my home theater and I can't decide what I am going to do. I am a very firm believer in all 3 front speakers should be the same, so ideally for me the THX Ultra 2 setup is perfect. But I do not have that kind of money. So here is what I am looking at. I have a chance to get som RF82's for about $450 for the pair, or RF62's for $400 pair. RC62 for $200. RS52's for I think it was $300. But the place I am shopping at doesn't have nor will they order a RSW10d, They do have the RW12d for $400. So my questions. Is there a big difference in the RF82's over the RF62's? Also, how big of a step down is the RW12d from the RSW10d, and is it something that 2 of the RW12d's could overtome? Reciever wise I am going to be replacing my old Denon AVR3802. I need something with HDMI switching, and am looking at the Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K, but may just hold off till income tax ( and to see if the government does tax rebates again ) and try to get a Emotiva Processor and the 125w 7 channel amp. I would really like to get ahold of a RF63 system, but don't think I will have that amount of money any time soon, and the deal on the RF82/62 just seems to sweet to pass up. Although I have a feeling I am going to constantly kick myself in the butt if I don't try to save up for the 63 system. I sometimes find myself daydreaming that Klipsch would create a true L/C/R speaker in the reference line.
  7. Actually, the X-box 360's external HD-DVD player WILL output a 1080P over VGA cable for HD-DVD's, upscaled DVD's, and video games that are programmed for 1080P ( and will upscale them if they aren't ). It will also allow a 1080P upscalled video game ( up to 720P upscalled dvd's ) over component video. I have seen both the Xbox 360 and PS3 side by side on identical Samsung 52" 1080P DLP tv's ( I work at a Best Buy, and when doing our overnight reset and putting the PS3 demo out, we goofed off and put it on the big tv for about an hour ), both with Maden 07 ( PS3 demo version, retail on 360 ) and there was NO graphical difference between the games. The 360 was hooked up the standard way with component video cables ( no hd-dvd drives yet ) and the PS3 was hooked up HDMI to the tv set. Did not do a movie comparison because we did not have enough time, nor would it be fare to play a blue-ray vs a standard dvd.
  8. Trust me, I would love to set up a room using the k-horns as a front left/right, with a LaScala as a center, and I am guessing Heresy II's as surround L/R and surround back L/R in a 7.1 setup. I can just imagine them with a overhead DLP projector projecting a 80"-100" video image onto a screen that the bottom is about 6" above the top of the LaScala. Throw 2-4 RSW15's in their for a lil more bass reinforcement and their you go. Problem is, the heritage line is special order only with us, he just got the two horns years ago to see how they would sell, and no one has ever bought them. I hope to be the only person in teh company to ever sell a set. Speaking of, I got him down to $1600 each today, gonna try to work him down more a lil later when he isn't so bothered with me asking about it.
  9. Kieth, I don't see how talking on a message board about these speakers will cause me to loose my job. If he doesn't know ( and I don't think he even knows this board exists ) it won't hurt him.
  10. Like I said, I have only been here 3 weeks and I wish to jsut get rid of them, but I can't do something that will cause me to loose my job ( like sell them at $1k each without his permision. ) As far as them being enjoyed in the store, they are hooked up to a Pioneer elite tuner/stereo amp rated at 50w per channel that is probably older than the horns are. I've only played them 2 times since I have been here, most of our customers go to the home theater room with the 65" mitsu high def, rf7's, rs7's, rc7, rsw15 ( it is a 7.1 system ), Denon AVR5803, DVD2900 and listen to that setup. I personally and drooling over that DVD2900 at the moment, just don't have the funds and My dvd2800 serves me well at the moment. Havn't gotten to much into the SACD and DVD Audio arena yet, I am primarily a movie watcher. If he will allow me to sell these things at a resonable price, I will let you guys know.
  11. I have only been here for 3 weeks and honestly have never seen a pair of K-horns before moving here. I myself have been a Klipsch owner for 3 years and my dad for 8. I honestly would seel them for $1k each just to try to get them out of here, but the owner/manager still would like to get at least cost out of them, which is probably why they are still here. I will talk with him and see what I can do, will post an update if he will let me drop the price on them below cost.
  12. well its negotiable. I might as well change it to $2400, can't go lower than that though. They still have a warranty believe it or not, being as they are at the electronics store where I work and were never sold. Thats why I can't dip below $2400. They are in perfect condition, not a scratch on them I have found. If the manager finds out I am advertising on here I am in trouble. The big probelm is the shipping, was hopeing to find someone local that wants them. I am hourly paid so I do not get commision, reason why I am letting them go so cheap, they still have the standard retail price stuck on them here in the store.
  13. Hey guys, I have a pair of 12 year old k-horns with the oiled oak cabinets in perfect condition ( a small scuffle or 2 on top of one cabinet and some dust bunnies ) going for $2800 each plus shipping, unless you would like to drive to Gulfport, MS to pick them up. Price is slightly negotiable, e-mail me for more details if interested cj21_2001@yahoo.com
