  1. Actually, I live in an upstairs condo which is only 3 years old. The sound dampening is pretty incredible because I had my neighbor up for a demo and we ran it on the Hong Kong scene of Pacific Rim (monstrous - no pun intended - LFE) and the bass wasn't too bad in his unit at -15 volume. We couldn't hear the music at all. While in my house, it was like a movie theater. I originally had the SW115 3 feet to the left of the left front and the LFE was just obnoxious in that position after running XT32. Someone else recommended the positioning it's in now and I prefer it in that spot.
  2. Thanks! I got a lot of advice in the Klipsch owners forum on AVS while this site was down. Tried about 5 different speaker and sub placements and MultEQ XT32 calibrations before I settled on what's in that pic. I ended up with the Onkyo 818 as my AVR.
  3. I will post pictures when I get them, for sure. I ordered the cherry version and was told they are "hand finished in Hope, AR". Yeah, marketing-speak from the rep, I'm sure. I'm definitely excited and can't believe I was wasting time fretting over doing this initially. Now it's time to purchase a new AVR and potentially a separate amp for the fronts and center in the future.
  4. Thanks everyone for your responses and advice. I just cut a check for the total, so with any luck on Monday, the order will be complete [Y]. I'm leaning toward powering it with the Onkyo TX-NR818, as I've had positive experiences with Onkyo recently. I still have a pristine Denon 3805 that I bought in 2004, but I don't know anything about their newer products nowadays and if they're a good match with Klipsch now. These are absolutely "A" stock, by the way. It's coming from Klipsch, direct. Working for a commercial partner has its benefits.
  5. Wow that craigslist listing looks too good to be true. That or I'm completely unaware of pricing in the used market. Probably a bit of both. Great price, go for it. If HT is your primary enjoyment, I would get an upper midlevel OnkyoTX-NR818(with Audyssey MultEQ XT32) and a multichannel amp. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXNR818/Onkyo-TX-NR818-7.2-Ch-THX-Certified-Network-A/V-Receiver/1.html or go get this http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/ele/4052936492.html If the Pioneer Elite does not have all you want, sell it for $300.00 to $400.00 and get the Onkyo 818 and come in under your $1000.00 target. 6. Thank you all for the responses and recommendations. I have the option to select any Klipsch system for that type of discount before end of year and I was thinking long and hard about just going with the RF82ii. I think the modern day equivalent of the RF15 setup (which I also got a for a great price 9 years ago) is the RF42ii or RF52ii, right? I wanted a massive upgrade and now I'm of the thinking that may as well go flagship Reference if I'm doing my almost once a decade upgrade, right? It's just a matter of just pulling the trigger since I already have the cash on hand for the system and an AVR/amp. If/When I do this, I'll definitely post pics of my setup. I just sprung for a Samsung 64F8500, so the upgrade my HT bug has already bit me once this summer. I've been running the numbers on my budget for days to make sure I'm not overextending myself [].
  7. So it seems like the quick consensus is that it is a good deal. Any other AVR recommendations? I'll be using it for HT for the most part, but that's not to say music isn't important at all. Thanks in advance.
  8. It's the entire system which is pictured above. Manufacturer direct.
  9. I have the opportunity to purchase the RF7ii HT system new, for @$2900 out the door. I have a 9 year old RF15 system and feel it's time for an upgrade and I'm not sure I can pass up this opportunity. Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated. And if I do this, what AVR would you recommend to drive them? Can I get something capable for these speakers under $1k?
  10. After setting up my new receiver...to my relief, I guess I just had a bad unit. There was no distortion/static sound from any of my surround speakers at a 0.0 volume level. For the 20 second or so bursts I listened to each scene, the DD processing sounded as clean as the DTS as far as extraneous noise level. I'm glad I didn't have to try and find a new receiver! cyclones22
  11. I just received mine 2 days ago. I guess I beat the deadline...but do you think they'll sneak in this "update" via the next firmware that addresses the 318's other issues i.e. white crush via DVI and color/contrast/brightness control? That would suck if that's their plan... cyclones22
  12. Did that as well, Steve. It's definitely more prominent on the left side amplifiers, than the right. The left rear surround has the next highest level of static/distortion. I've swapped speakers, plugged the left surrounds into the right connectors and vice versa and tested with 3 foot cable runs. Perhaps my unit has faulty amplifiers? The center channel and mains sound perfect in DD as well as DTS. It seems to only be the surrounds in DD mode and moreso the left side than right, but still present on the right. I can't wait to get my hands on the new receiver and test again this weekend. I'll be holding my breath when I do. Hopefully I'll hear some clear ambient/surround sounds and that's it. cyclones22
  13. Thanks for the reply, Steve. Unforunately, I've already tested it w/2 other dvd players I have. Also have used optical/digital coax in my testing and the static-like sound still appears in DD mode only. I'll have my new receiver on Friday night, so I'll post my results on Saturday. Thanks for the input. cyclones22
  14. Thanks for the replies edwinr and McGoo. I hope it's not defective, as I'd hate to have to ship it back and be without it for who knows how long. It doesn't strike you as odd that the DTS tracks sounded incredibly clear to me? I know you'll get those who say DTS sounds better than DD anyway, but it just seems bizarre to me. But you're right McGoo, it is inaudible when program material is playing out of the speakers. Thanks again, cyclones22 EDIT: Okay, I don't think it's a "hiss" to my understanding. It sounds like static and if I pause my DVD player and turn the volume up to 0.0, there is absolutely no hiss. I'm going to call Denon and ask them what's going on because it doesn't happen in DTS NEO 6 mode either...or even much on PLIIx only mode...it does happen in DD+PLIIx and DD. Thanks again for the replies. EDIT II: Denon says it is abnormal and to exchange the receiver. Big kudos to Crutchfield for accepting my exchange with very little fanfare and sending a new 3805 my way today!
  15. Hi all, I think I may have a bad Dolby Digital processor in my 3805. First of all, let me explain that I'm pretty new to this entire HT thing. I had the opportunity to get some nice speakers and a tv for outstanding prices and jumped in with both feet. My setup includes the following: LG 52" RPLCD, Denon 3805 AVR, Bravo D2 DVD player, Klipsch RF15x2, RC25, RB15x4, RW12. Now, here's the problem (it may not be after all is said and done and this could be perfectly normal)...I've run the auto setup on the 3805. Everything appears to sound great. Keep in mind that this is 95% home theater use, music rarely. I started noticing that my left surround speaker had an audible hissing type sound during quiet scenes on certain movie dvds. I usually listen at about -30 to -22 as I live in an apartment and don't want to disturb the neighborhood. I can hear the hissing because my left and right surrounds are right next to the couch (I know, not the best placement, but that's besides the point). There is hissing on the rest of the surrounds too, but it's not even noticeable at that sound level. It started to drive me nuts just thinking about it, so I unplugged the center and the mains and tested the surrounds (left/right and 2 rear). I popped in some dvds and turned the volume up to range from -5.0 to 0.0. It's pretty noticeable at that level from close range, which I guess is understandable given the center and mains would be dominating the sound stage at that volume. But here's the interesting part...I used 5 dvds which had both DTS and Dolby Digital tracks. Every single one of the DTS tracks were incredibly clear at those volume levels. No hissing period. But when I switched it to Dolby Digital on the same scenes, the hissing type sounds return. The DVDs I used were Open Range, Master and Commander, Pirates of the Caribean, Kill Bill and FOTR. I also used Dances with Wolves Extended and Matrix Reloaded (Dolby Digital only for both). Now, I need the opinions of you experts here. Is there something wrong with my Dolby Digital processor or is that kind of thing to be expected? I just can't imagine that DTS is that much cleaner on every single DVD I tried. Any opinions/advice is most welcome. I need to decide if I need a new receiver since this is still under warranty (bought it from Crutchfield, so I know I'm safe) or if it's an acceptable norm. Thanks in advance, cyclones22
  16. I had the same thing happen as well, but with my quintet center channel in my bedroom HT. The weird thing, is that it never was a problem for a year. I never moved it, it remained right on top of my tv. When I bought my new HT system, I tore the old system down and disconnected and moved everything onto tables and whatnot for about a week. When I finally started putting all back together, I noticed the distortion on the top of my tv. I KNOW it was not there before, as I would have noticed it especially when switching through inputs as I would get a plain blue screen for no signal. That's actually how I noticed it to begin with. I have no idea what the heck caused that to happen, but for now I've got my center channel on top of a small 5" wood stand. I'd really like to just place it back on my tv again, so if anybody has any theories or suggestions, I would appreciate it as well. Thanks, cyclones22
  17. Hi audiobliss, For what it's worth, my set up is 2 RF15, RC25, 4 RB15, RW12. I own the Denon 3805 and it sounds great! Granted, I'm more into movies than music, but I think it would be a great match for you. They run anywhere from $900 to $1100. Just make sure you buy from an authorized dealer, or your warranty won't be honored. Hope this helps. cyclones22
  18. Thanks for the replies! I've placed an order for 2 more RB-15s. Now I'm debating whether I wall mount them or place them on stands cyclones22
  19. Hello all, I currently have rf-15s for my fronts and rb-15s as my surrounds in a 5.1 setup. I want to get 2 more speakers to complete a 7.1 setup (I have a Denon 3805 and want to take advantage of PLIIx), now that I've found a good place for speaker stands behind the couch. Any suggestions? Should I just get 2 more rb-15s or maybe a pair of rs-25s? Thanks in advance! cyclones22
  20. Thanks everyone for all of the help. I ended up going with the Denon AVR-3805s. I should get it sometime next week. Hopefully my speakers/sub AND my new 52" LG rear projection lcd will arrive as well! I'm moving my old HT setup into my bedroom Thanks again. I'll post my observations once everything is set up. cyclones22
  21. Thanks everyone for your input. It is greatly appreciated. You've given me a lot to think about. I'm glad to hear that Denon and Marantz are good options because those are brands I can get for a very good price through some connections I have. Thanks again. cyclones22
  22. Hmm. I'm probably looking for something in the $1k range. Separates I would think are out of my price range at the moment. cyclones22
  23. Hello all! Last time I posted here, I bought a set of quintet IIs and a ksw10 to go with an HK AVR 225. Well, now it's time to upgrade. I'm moving that set up to my bedroom and getting a pair of RF 15, a pair of RB 15, an RC 25 and a RW 12 sub. Any suggestions on what I should get to power these? I would like a 6.1 or even 7.1 (in case I buy more surrounds), but am not ruling out a 5.1 receiver. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. cyclones22
  24. Okay, 10 grand to spend for a home theater system...and I need EVERYTHING! Advice and recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. cyclones22
