Believe it or not, I was in the exact same position as you 2 years ago. . . Graduating from Purdue except with an EE degree with a job at Klipsch being my dream. Had several interviews in several very different industries (including Klipsch). In the end, after a long and excruciating search, I landed several job offers to choose from with very different positions and industries. Now, I'm a Design Engineer designing wiring harnesses for the automotive industry, now with experience in Global Production Planning, Sub Assembly Design, Kaizen, and more boring nomenclature. Hopefully in a few years I'll be able to contribute significantly to Klipsch as a member of their team. I have to start somewhere, right? Anyways, my point being. . . just take what life throws at you when you're trying to get your balance. Soon enough, you'll get what you want. Hope this is good encouragement. Boiler Up!!

Me and the wife went spent a week in Kauai for our honeymoon. believe it or not, we met a lot of Hawaiians there from other islands on their honeymoon. I was told that Kauai was the least commercialized of all the islands (Most of the island is Forest Preserves anyways). So, here's my ad- Kauai: Where Hawaiians take their Vay-kay-shuns.

I'm no expert when it comes to home audio amplifiers. . . But back 8 years ago, when I was into car audio (Had some Soundstream Rubicon & Reference Series Amps), you just had to do some load matching with the output (speakers). If the output impedance was too low the amp would suck in too much energy and overheat. . . when it was too high the speakers just didn't get loud enough. So I'm assuming you just gotta match those resistors with what the Teac was designed for. . . For instance, my Sony reciever, when running both A+B Speakers are designed for a total load of 4 ohms each (Left and Right). I have four 8 ohm speakers (4 ohms to the Left and 4 to the Right) for maximum power transfer. So strapping a 16 ohm "dummy-load" with your 8 ohm speakers will cause an output impedance of 5.333 ohms. Causing 66% of the power going to your speakers but, with total output power being reduced. Strapping a 40 ohm will cause an output impedance of 6.666 ohms ---> 83.3% power going to the speakers but with even less total output power. So matching with a set of 8 ohm resistors will cause 4 ohms and 50% of the power going to the speakers with the max designed power output. I guess you can't loose with an 8 or 16 ohm resistor. . . If it gets to hot just put some higher valued resistors in parallel to get 8 or 16 ohms. I'm not really familiar with the "wire-wound" resistors (maybe I'm too young). . . Just give it a try and let us know.

AH yes! The WRX is a fine vehicle indeed and it's STi counterpart is even more perfect. Although all the critics are giving props to the EVO VII over the STi (by a narrow margin), I still prefer the looks of the STi. ----> The EVO just doesn't look right to me. I think they need to reduce the height (just my opinion. I don't know how that will change the car's aerodynamics). Anyway. . . You're a good man

Gil: I found some articles on the IEEE website but I'm not sure they are the ones that you recommended (Geddes, Murray, etc). Do you have a link to those papers readily available?? If not, don't worry about it, maybe I'll ask you again later after I've glaced over the one's I already have. I have already theoretically built a horn in one of my labs (had to do the calculations but not build it) to direct a very high frequency (microwave) to a dipole array. So. . . I guess. . . I kinda know some of the design theory but I'm looking for some nitty-gritties. Maybe I'll find some on IEEE soon. Thanks Gil, you're awesome!!! I'm learning a lot. This board rocks

Thanks Gil. But sorry, by the details in your post I thought you got a hold of some of PWK's patent applications or something. Yeah I used to do my own tests back when I was in school; since I had free access to millions of dollars of equipment (signal generators, spectrum analyzers, TDRs, etc). That's where I put my AR bookshelves to the test and added some filters to each speaker. Sounds much better now. I guess I'm just an engineering sucker. I always want to see the well documented evidence. Sure, I guess I can experience it, but I always wanna see it in a controlled environment as well.

Thanks guys! Lots of info. trespasser: NMSU is a great school. Had an interview with NAVSEA with Code 80 with lots of NMSU alumni. Very neat gents. I dunno where you're from but they said there's no green grass in NM. Oh yeah, EE isn't for every one (but sure was fun). I remember not really sleeping for 2 weeks. . . eating out of a vending machine in the EE building and relying on "NO DOZE" to stay awake to keep going to my classes and trying to finish our IR and RF channels on our senior design project. You can't spell gEEk without "EE" So, I guess if I ever get another interview with them I can bring in a Klipsch speaker or an Aragon reciever/amp that I have "engineered" to perform better along with a technical write-up. Actually, that sounds pretty fun. Only if I had the $$ and the equipment to do that kind of stuff.

Hee hee hee. Yeah. Well. I just graduated this May. Did 3 years with a double major in Nuclear and Electrical, cause I think I wanted to do reactor design. Then graduated my 4th year in Electrical cause I didn't want to do the Nuclear stuff anymore. Now, I'm just unemployed and doing what 6% of American's are doing right now. . . Looking to start a career to support my nasty habit. I would like to eventually become an integral part of Klipsch, but I don't have enough audio design experience to justify Klipsch hiring me. Oh well, I guess I'll keep trying/learning.

For all those engineers working in the audio industry. . . If you don't mind me asking. . . How'd you get started?? --==^.^==--

Plus, the farther away from the source, the reference point begins to "see" the source as a point. and the closer the reference to the source, the source begins to "perform" like an infinite plane. But farther away from the source, the presence of reverberations becomes greater.

Field trip to the anechoic chamber in Indy!!! Just a general question. . . what are you measuring your dB in (i.e. base 10,2,e; dBm; dBV) and with what weighting?? Cause you may have to convert to watts (I may be wrong but that's what they taught us in our signal modulation and demodulation class in engineering school)
