  2. I am having my 15's worked on by a guy in Kenosha, who has done some amazing horn speakers, and is very reasonable. Tannoys DEFNATLY need breating room, and a large box.............[8-|]

I'm glad you still have 'em. I hadn't seen them in your profile and was wondering.

I'm definitely going to take you up on the offer to hear them when you get them 'done right'.

  3. ..... I already asked, but anyone else "training" to Klipsch who can recomend a nice SS amp for cheap (that also has remote control). Am I taking us OT??

I put my trainer in the khorn sweet spot and go go go!!! That'll get yer blood pumping. Can't recommend an SS amp with a remote control, though, as I went over to the dark side a few years back.

  4. I have an old Schwinn that a friend gave me a zillion years ago. Never ride it but I'm interested in getting into the sport. He used to ride this thing from Chicago to St. Louis on some yearly organized trip. Obviously bikes have come a long way. I could slice a pizza with the skinny tires on this antique.

Any recommendations on a new bike for a novice? Lets say under a grand.

    Pete

Vintage Schwinn bikes are cool. Fix it up and ride it!

If you like it then spend some bucks on a better machine.

Pmsummer's advice about getting a local bike shop involved is valuable info.

    Fit is EVERYTHING.

If you want to really go nuts, join www.bikejournal.com and ask for advice there. They are the tube/khorn geeks of the two-wheeled world.

hint: I don't try to improve my audio setup over there. [;)]

  5. I am curious to see what percentage of you guys ride road and what percentage ride mountain bikes and why?

Road bike mostly. I ride for transportation as well as recreation. I do have a rigid mountain bike that I've used on trails and I enjoy it when I do, but since it usually involves a car to get the bike there, I don't do it often. I'll be bringing my cheap-o road bike to the Pilgrimage this year like I did in 2005. If any of you would like to ride on the Monon trail for a couple hours (+/-) Friday afternoon or early Sunday morning, that would be fun.

  6. Thanks for all the responses.....

Update: I got a call from the board president this a.m., he said that he heard about Ms. L---- talking to me about the Corns. Then he told me she didn't even have the support of her committee or of the board. I thought she was bringing me the wishes of her committee but it was just her. The speakers stay.

However, I agree with tuned4life. I'm gonna try to find some way to minimalize their visual impact. At this point it's a compromise I don't have to make, but it's church of people, and the speakers are only things, no matter how fine they sound.

George, The speakers exisit primarily for an electric piano, a Roland RD-600. 2 years ago the church had an opportunity to buy a Kawai RX-7 from another church for 12,000. I offered to put up $4000 of that, but they still didn't go for it.Incredible. If we had an acoustic instrument in there, we wouldn't need a P.A. In fact, I would sell the Corns in a minute if I thought we would get a nice acoustic instrument. Well, maybe not a minute... maybe a month, or two.

Indy, the room isn't the best for critical listening, whatever that is. It has about 1.5 seconds of reverberation, heavy on the low mid frequencies when empty and slightly less when filled up with people. GREAT for singing, though. I wouldn't change a thing, though. I like the liveliness of the room.

Oh, and Indy, you won't be getting my speaks!! LOL.

  7. Church Cornwalls

This is a picture of the inside of my church. There used to be just two Heresys, then a pair of Cornwalls and a pair of Heresys, then I got a pair of Cornwals for my home, then I got Klipschorns and the 2nd pair of Cornwalls went to the church, the Heresys went to a friend. At any rate, I own the speakers and much of the amplification, but just 'store' them at the church - and use them for a P.A., of course.

Today I had invited whoever wished to show up early to listen to the live broadcast of lessons and carols from Kings College, Cambridge. There were about ten of us there. Glorious.

Afterwards a lady on the 'aesthetics' committee approached me and wondered how we might 'hide' the speakers. They were awfully imposing on the lines of the room, she said.

I don't think you can hide them, I said.

She continued... what about getting some of those small speakers to put in the corners, up high where people can't see them?

No. That's what I think of that, I said.

Have you heard them? I think they sound good, she said.

I think they would be inferior in every way, I said. I happen to like the way these look, I said.

But you're a speaker freak, she said.

No, I'm an audio freak. It just happens that those speakers satisfy me, I said.

There was a tad more talk between us, but the bottom line is they, the commitee, (or maybe just her) don't like the look of big speakers. I left feeling very disheartened.

    What's a musician to do?

  8. With a room size of 30' x 12' .... hmmmm... first off, you have to have good corners, but you probably knew that.

Putting the khorns on the 30' wall (most desirable) will put the sweet spot about 15' back... and your room is too narrow for that.

Putting them on the 12' wall will put the best listening about 6' - 7' back from center.

For the best result you might have to build a false corner for one (or both) of them, but I think if done right, you are gonna be very pleased.

I had Tannoy 15" gold monitors, but I sold them. They were fine, no doubt, but I preferred the Klipschorns and a forum member made me an offer I couldn't refuse on the Tannoys!

No matter what you do, we'll be interested in your thoughts! Welcome to the forum.
